We are sorry that you did not receive the results you were hoping for. When you order a report, our system searches through billions of public records and collects every piece of relevant information. PeopleFinders pays for access to this data, so the charge is for us to conduct a search on your behalf, not to return a specific result. We are unable to provide a refund, but we will be happy to offer you a free search to help you find the facts you need. Please review the Terms of Use on PeopleFinders.com if you would like more information about refunds or other policies.
Review: Appears they may have since changed the wording on the website. Presently the web site states it in this way " Report + FREE Trial $0.95" If not careful, and elderly person or naive person could be duped into a 24.99 per month fee. You would enter a card number believing that you are purchasing something for $0.95, If you do not then get back to the website within 3 days you are enrolled. I have read that this practice is being outlawed. we were, unknowing to us, being billed for 7 months. There were no statements or confirmations sent by email. This type of business practice can only be for reasons of deception. There is no other reason why a business would need to do this to develop a customer base.Desired Settlement: I would like my money back and hope this practice can be stopped or prevented from financially harming others.

Response:
On 8/11/2013 this customer signed up for a $0.95 three day trial membership. This customer declined the post transaction offer for the PeopleFinders Rewards 7 day free trial membership. Therefor the customer was never charged additional charges for PF Rewards as mentioned in complaint. On 2/5/2014 they called and stated they thought the site was free and the representative explained we ask for credit card information and the total of $0.95 is displayed during checkout. We cancelled the automatic renewal per the customer’s request. Then on 2/22/2014 they called again to make sure the account was closed and there would be no further automatic billing.
When shopping online, it is the customer’s responsibility to read and understand what is being purchased. Given that members can conduct unlimited searches for a monthly membership fee our terms do not allow for any refunds and simply allow members to cancel anytime to avoid future charges. For the period of her six months of membership the customer was charged each month. During that time, our customer service was available to take her cancellation at any time. We did not receive notification that she wished to cancel until 2/5/2014.
Review: On 10/8/13 I paid Peoplefinders.com $1.95 via my bank debit card through their website for a one time quick look-up for an old friend. I did NOT sign up for any accounts. The banking account that I used is a secondary account that is for small incidentals and I don't pay much attention to my usually small balance, and this is what they did... Four days later on 10/8/13 my account was charged $24.95. Again on 11/8/13, 12/9/13, 1/9/14, and lastly on 2/10/14. I received a notice from my bank on 2/18/14 that my account had been overdrawn. I had a sit-down with the bank manager to discuss how to proceed. I called Peoplefinders.com while at the bank and the woman hung up on me after about 3 minutes. I wanted to know WHY I WAS BEING CHARGED for something I didn't sign up for! Instead I hear a click. No explanation, no apology, no customer service... The bank representative filled out forms to dispute the charges but could only file those within 120 days. Not good enough. I want my money back! All of it. $124.75! Plus the $38.50 bank fee for overdrawing my account! Which by the way, I've NEVER done in my life. I used the $1.95 one time service and was on this site ONE TIME. Someone, somewhere needs to get to the bottom of how these people can get away with this! Now I see here on the Revdex.com that there are a lot of other similar complaints against this corporation, and I'm quite upset about them having an accredited status?!! It seems that Peoplefinders.com is having major issues with adherence to Revdex.com standards. I read the replies to so many other similar complaints and frankly, are you kidding?? Does this corporation really think they are going to convince this many people that they signed up for a service that they KNOW they didn't? Time to man-up Peoplefinders.com and stop scamming and stealing other peoples money!Desired Settlement: I want my money back! MY money, that was taken without my authorization. $124.75 plus $38.50 = $163.25. I want whatever bogus account you're claiming I have with your company GONE. You got your $1.95 for an address I was looking for. That's all you were suppose to get. REFUND. NO ACCOUNT. ASAP.

We have reviewed our files and our records show an order for a search was placed by this customer on 10/3/2013. She proceeded through the checkout process and completed her purchase. Immediately after clicking the “Complete my Purchase” button a full-page advertisement for a three day trial to our membership was displayed. The page clearly and conspicuously states that the membership will automatically renew monthly after the trial term until it is cancelled. The user has the option to either click “Yes” or “No” The Our records show that on 10/3/2013 this customer affirmatively selected to enroll in this membership by clicking the “Yes” button that reads “By clicking on the “YES” button below, you are agreeing to the Offer Details displayed on the right.” Per her request over the phone on 2/18/2014 this advertisement and the charges were explained to her, the account was closed, and a refund of $24.95 was issued as a one time courtesy. In addition, we have received a dispute from her credit card company on 2/28/2014. This customer will need to follow her credit card company’s policies regarding her dispute.
Review: Peoplefinders.com automatically bills my account $24.95 every month since September 2013-February 2014 and I did not authorize the charges. I used their service once in September 9, 2013 and paid $40.94. I contacted peoplefinders.com for a refund of all of the unauthorized charges but they have refused and will not allow me to speak to a member of management.Desired Settlement: Refund to my debit card account for $149.70

Response:
Our records show that an order for a search was conducted by the
customer on 9/9/2013. At that time they had a choice to accept a special discounted price
available with a monthly membership or the full price for the search without
membership. The membership option was
affirmatively selected by them on 9/9/2013. That
membership provided a three day trial to try our services. Our membership service provides unlimited
searches and other features for a monthly fee.
This is clearly and conspicuously disclosed on the initial order
selection page. On the following checkout page it again
clearly states that after the initial trial, unless the
consumer cancels the service the service will continue monthly and the card
they provided will be charged until they tell us to cancel their membership to
avoid future charges. The membership is
mentioned no less than three times on two pages before the order is
complete.
Given that
members can conduct unlimited searches for a monthly membership fee our terms
do not allow for any refunds and simply allow members to cancel anytime to
avoid future charges. For the period of their membership the customer was charged
each month. During that time, our customer service was available to take the cancellation
at any time. We did not receive a
contact from the customer until six months
after the membership was initiated. On 3/11/2014 we agreed to refund one charge of $24.95 as a onetime courtesy. The customer left a voicemail for a supervisor. Per the customer's request a supervisor called out on 3/12/2014 and agreed to refund two additional charges of $24.95 each. In conclusion, the account is closed and we
have provided three months of
refunds.

Response:
If your intention was to run only one search, you had in fact selected the wrong product. The $40.94 background report you selected was discounted (normally $50.94) because it comes with a three day trial membership. If you wanted only one search the full price report should have been selected. We understand it was not your intention to enroll and have issued three refunds of $24.95 each. The remaining charges are non-refundable per the Terms you agreed to.

I am rejecting this response because: false and misleading advertisement.
Sincerely,
Review: I signed up for one month of service in August 2013. As a lawyer, I carefully read the contract and information when I signed up for one month of service. The one-month of service was only a one-time use. Eight months later, I learned that Peoplefinder.com has been charging me for services every month using my company account. The company simply charged my debit card without my authorization. There behavior is both fraudulent and criminal. When I contacted the company, employees were completely rude and refused to credit my account. I am deeply concerned about this company having access to my credit card information and disturbed by the blatant theft against consumers. Legal action should be taken against this fraudulent and scam business. I would like to warn all consumers to never conduct business with Peoplefinder.com and that the company will bill for services that you do not sign up for even if the website states it will not.Desired Settlement: I would like to be repaid for the unauthorized charges on my credit card, which was for eight months of $24.95 (a total of $199.60 that was stolen from my credit card).

Response:
We have reviewed our files and the product you selected was not a one time only fee. In fact, nowhere on PeopleFinders.com do we offer one month of service as a one time only fee. PeopleFinders.com is a self service website. It is the user's responsibility to read and understand what products they are selecting. The monthly membership is clearly and conspicuously disclosed on the initial product selection page. Then the customer is provided with an entire section on the checkout page, directly under the total in standard text, outlining the terms of the membership. It clearly states again that, unless you cancel the service the service will continue monthly and the card you provided will be charged until you tell us to cancel. The membership is mentioned no less than two times on two pages of checkout.
Contrary to your stated intention to use the service for only one month, the membership was continuously used for five months. Our records show this account was accessed 47 times from August 2013-December 2013. Each time, the login came from the same computer as the initial purchase. In addition, hundreds of searches were ran utilizing the membership. If your intention was to use our service for one month then you would need to cancel the monthly membership you selected and stop utilizing the membership.
Given that members can conduct unlimited searches for a monthly membership fee our terms do not allow for any refunds and simply allow members to cancel anytime to avoid future charges. For the period of your membership you were charged each month. During that time, our customer service was available to take you cancellation at any time. You failed to contact us to cancel until several threatening phone calls to our Customer Care team on 4/18/2014, nine months after the membership was initiated. As a courtesy, we agreed to refund three charges of $24.95. You will be responsible for the other membership fees.
Review: This company is a scam! I spent $39.95 to get absolutely nothing that I couldn't have gotten on my own. Their promises of a full background check are lies. I called them after spending half an hour trying to get the information, finally got a report from them and found it didn't contain any information that I didn't already know AND some of the things I knew but they didn't have on their report! I called to ask them immediately to ask for my $39.95 to be refunded and they refused saying that they can't get all records because of a privacy clause some states might have. Funny that all the things I was looking for were from the same state and some were reported and some not. This is such a scam and shame on The Revdex.com for giving them an A+ rating when there have been NOTHING but complaints about them when I investigated further to see if anyone else had complained. I would hope that the Revdex.com will pay attention to all the people who have written complaints to them and let others know this is a horrible company to do business with. After all this is suppose to be your job.Desired Settlement: I want my $39.95 credited back to my VISA

Review: This company is a fraud! False advertising and not clear on billing policy. I purchased what I believed to be a FREE three day trial & was charged $19.95 for search & .99 for report. I want a refund to my bank for ALL CHARGES incurred. Information was not accurate! Customer service representative at Peoplefinder was rude & stated information was clear & refused to give refund. Transferred to a SUPERVISOR and of course, it went to a voice mail. As I read on Revdex.com site, this is not the first complaint of this type. I did tell representative that was going to call my bank tomorrow. Please advise what is best option to handle this. Should I contact bank regarding dispute?Desired Settlement: $20.94 refunded to my bank checking account as soon possible. I had to cancel a automatic payment due to these UNAUTHORIZED charges!

We have reviewed your account and found that the product you selected was a Comprehensive Background Report plus a free trial at $19.95. At the time of purchase you had the choice between a normal price Background Report at $29.95 or the same product at a discounted price ($19.95) with a free trial. You received a discount because you signed up for a 3 day free trial to our Membership. The trial refers to the Membership only. You have 3 days to cancel the trial to the Membership to avoid being automatically charged for the monthly membership fee. Your original purchase is not affected. We have cancelled your trial per your request over the phone on 9/30/2014. You will not be billed the membership fee of $24.95 for the Membership because you cancelled within 3 days.
The charge of $19.95 is for the Comprehensive Background Report ordered. Our records show that, additionally, you ran another five Background Reports utilizing the trial membership. The charge is non-refundable per the Terms you agreed to and the amount of data accessed through the added membership.

Response:
I am rejecting this response because:
Information was inaccurate and misleading. I feel this company knows the information relayed is inaccurate and they still continue to charge you $19.95 even though it says "free trial". Information was not clear regarding "free trial" offer. I will never be misled by another company like this. I've found most online businesses such as this are all fraudulent and untrustworthy.
Please be sure all of my information is erased from your database as I do not want anymore charges billed to my bank card!
Review: They charged me 39.99 for information that I already had u can get the same info on Google or white pages for free and then they won't even give you a refund its a ripoff totallyDesired Settlement: My money back if I got my worth that would be diff but all the info is wrong r old

Review: Peoplefinder.com advertisted "unlimited reverse phone report" "Best Value" for $0.95. I made two searches on 3/31/15 with the assumption I would be charged $0.95 for each search. I contacted Peoplefinder on 3/4/15 when I was notified of a charge to my credit card that day. I was informed that I had agreed to "membership" if I didn't cancel in 3 days. I later looked at the page and found that this information was hidden behind their "Privacy Policy" and "Terms of Service" check box. I and several others have felt that this is deliberately misleading. The Membership clause should not be hidden behind the "Privacy Policy".Desired Settlement: I want my $24.95 refunded and the website changed to clearly indicate in a separate check-box line item that a Membership fee of $24.95/month will be charged if not cancelled within 3 days.

Review: I signed up a for a search to find a relative on peoples finders.com in mid-January. They signed me for 3 day trial and then six months later I notice that they have been billing my credit card 24.95 a month for an ongoing subscription that I was not aware I ever signed up for. I called to ask for a credit back and they were most rude and did not wish to offer me credit--they simply offered to cancel my renewal now that I caught them. This is terrible and I wanted to alert you all to this.Thank you for your time and consideration.[redacted] cell[redacted]Desired Settlement: Yes I would welcome a refund and/or for the company to be more transparent about getting people in to their monthly payment scheme.

Review: People finders are deceptive with their auto charging practice. The site deliberately makes it difficult to locate the canceling portion so they can continue to charge your bank each month. Our records confirm you selected the 3 Months of UNLIMITED Reports for $38.95. You affirmatively click the check-box stating "I ... understand that my card will be automatically billed ... until I cancel." Response:
I am rejecting this response because:The statement that they "clearly and conspicuously" relate that my credit card will be billed until I cancel is a load of horse crap. If it was there it was not clear apparent that I was signing up for anything more than the limit three months that I thought I was. I cannot recreate the sign up page as an attachment to prove this but they are relying on this deception to bill people for services that are NOT clear and conspicuous. Even if I don't get my money back, they should be reported to the attorney general for deceptive business practices.
Did background check on myself.
Not one existing record correct or not found.
no marriage license, no divorce record, wrong address, wrong phone number, no arrest record, the list goes on and on.
provided no service at all.
I tried for three days to cancel my membership, I kept getting the run around, to cancel membership please call us, I'd call and it say please cancel online, I'd try to log in and it would tell me I had the wrong password. I finally was able to speak to someone AFTER I was charged for the membership and both people I spoke to were very rude, I asked to speak to customer service and they connected me to a voicemail that told me that I'd receive a call as soon as they could get to me.
Review: I selected a choice to pay a one time charge of $1.95 for contact information on [redacted]. I received the report, but 3 days later was charged another $24.95. When I called to ask why the charge, a rude customer service agent said it was in the terms on the website that the 4th day I would be charged a $24.95 for a membership fee. Those terms were not clear on the website, only the on-time charge of $1.95 was what I signed up for.Desired Settlement: I want the $24.95 refunded to my account, after which I never want to hear from PeopleFinders.com ever again.

Review: I signed up for a Background Check Report for a 1- month trial of 9.95, where it clearly states that if I cancel within 3 days, I will only pay $2.95 for the trial, I went to receive the report, which did not include any of the information on what the report says it would have.
I checked my email and saw that I was charged $59.70 for ONE report. I called the customer service line to discuss why I was charged so much & not only did I receive 1 rude CSR(Customer Service Rep) I spoke with two very rude gentlemen, in the middle of our conversation, forwarded me to a voicemail and told me that I signed up for 6 months worth of service and I was definitely not receiving a refund. I gave them my married name, they called me by my maiden name which is also very creepy. I am fine with paying a $9.95 fee, which is what I signed up for, and I am also fine with paying a $2.95 fee for cancelling within 3 days of the membership. I am not okay with a $59.70 charge.
The reps are not concerned about my issues, even if they handled the conversation a little better, I may not be as upset but to have an erroneous charge and speak to 2 rude people, I would like my money back please and thank you.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of $46.80. I will comply with the $9.95 & $2.95 cancellation fee.

Response:
We apologize for the experience you had. The name on your account has the last name of [redacted], we apologize if the reps were calling you by a different last name. Perhaps the name that showed up on caller ID. In any matter, we have refunded you the $46.80. Please allow 2-5 business days for the refund to appear on your account.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.
Review: On August 7, 2015 I was on a website performing a search for an individual. That individual was located and in order to obtain a report, I had to establish an account with peoplefinders.com. The options given to me for membership included 6 months of unlimited reports for $4.95 per month. My credit card was supposed to be billed $29.70; however, I received an email confirmation from peoplefinders.com advising that my card would be charged $59.70. I called the company to request a refund of the difference and the customer service agent said they could not issue a refund. I then sent an email to customer service providing proof of the advertised amount and requested a refund of the difference. I was informed that they were unable to offer a refund, but would like to offer me an extra 6 months of membership. I emailed them back advising that I did not wish an extra 6 months of membership and advised that I would like to cancel my membership and obtain a refund for the unused months as per their Terms of Service. I was once again informed that no refund would be issued.Desired Settlement: My credit card was charged $59.97 and I would like a refund based on my desire to cancel my membership as of August 15, 2015. According to the Terms of Service, I do not expect a refund for my membership from August 7, 2015 through September 7, 2015; however, I do want a refund for the remaining 5 months of my membership, which would be $49.75. ($59.97 per 6 months / 6 = $9.95 per month. $9.95 per month x 5 months = $49.75) I have documentation to support my claims.

Response:
We have reviewed our files and found that this customer selected our six month unlimited Background Report Membership at $59.70, which breaks down to $9.95 per month. Given that members can conduct unlimited searches for a membership fee our terms do not allow for any refunds and simply allow members to cancel anytime to avoid future charges. Our customer service is available to take their cancellation at any time. The automatic renewal of the membership was cancelled per this customer's request over the phone on 8/7/2015. There will be no automatic billing. The customer is responsible for the purchase of the $59.70 membership and can enjoy all the benefits of membership until it expires on 2/3/2016.

I am rejecting this response because: The Terms of Service states that "If you cancel a longer subscription term membership you may receive a pro-rated refund based upon any full months left on your term." I have 5 full months left on my term and according to the Terms of Service, which I agreed to, Peoplefinders.com has the ability to refund the remaining 5 months left on my subscription, but is refusing to do so. I think it is very bad business practice to make a consumer agree to a Terms of Service and then the company chooses not to abide by the same terms. I am still requesting a refund of the 5 months left remaining on my subscription $9.95 x 5 = $49.75.

Response:
As a single Background Report on PeopleFinders.com is $39.95 we will refund the difference at $19.75 as a one-time courtesy. The remainder of $39.95 for a Comprehensive Background Report will be this customer's responsibility. Please allow 3-5 business days for this to fully process.

I am rejecting this response because: My original purchase was for a 6 month membership at $4.95 per month for a total of $29.97; however, I was charged $59.70. The limited time offer for a 1 month membership was $9.95 per month as opposed to the regular price of $19.95 per month, which was shown on the original paperwork I submitted with my complaint. Peoplefinders.com is refunding me on $19.75 and saying that I am responsible for the remaining $39.95, which they claim is the cost of a one time comprehensive search. I have cancelled my 6 month membership; however, still had unlimited usage for 1 month. I appreciate the refund of $19.75; however, do not feel like I should be responsible for the remaining $39.95. I would be willing to pay for the 1 month unlimited membership for the cost of $19.95, per the paperwork I originally sent with my complaint. Since $19.75 has already been refunded, I would request that the remaining $20.00 be refunded as well.
