Review: Back about 3 years ago I got a call from my sister [redacted] one night asking me if I changed my name to my dad's name [redacted] ( she lives in Carl Junction Mo.). Before my Dad passed away in 2002 I use to take care of all his bills while he was in a nursing home in Buhler Ks. that is where I lived back then, we moved to OK. in 1999. I went through a bad inheritence with my brothers and sisters, ( Dad had land we sold) Mom had died in 1985, Any way my sister had looked on line to find my phone number and found that it showed I was useing my dads name I have not talked to my sister and have disowned her. I was looking on people finders site today and It Showed my Dads Name [redacted] with my age 61 (dad would of been 105) and it also stated also know as me [redacted]. I have never used my Dads Name and this has caused a lot of added problems. I feel that they need to correct this and send me an apoligy, and to show my sister that I have never used my dads name as myself, This mistake has caused me a lot of grief that I do not need. THANK YOU IN THIS MATTER. THIS SHOULD OF NEVER HAPPENED.Desired Settlement: For them to get in touch with my sister and explain there mistake and correct it.[redacted]Carl Junction Mo.

Unfortunately, there is no specific place to update your records. Public information is gathered in a variety of ways and every time you subscribe to magazines, have your phone number listed in the white pages, register to vote, or simply enter to win a car at the mall this information is gathered. We do not update or modify any of our records, simply display them as they have been reported to us. We apologize that we could not have been more help to you in this matter.

If you would like to completely remove your listing, you will need to follow the automated process online. For your convenience, below is a direct link to the opt out page.

Review: I signed up for a 1 month membership for $14.95. I was then billed $24.95 for the next 6 months without my knowledge or permission.

I used peoplefinder.com 6/2/2013 once. I was required to have a one month membership which was billed to my visa $14.95. I was not told that this obligated me to continue a membership for any further time or that I had to contact them again to discontinue this service. They continued to bill me $24.95 every month, even though I never used their service after 6/2/2013. I phoned them and e-mailed them to resolve this false advertising issue, but they won't allow me to speak to any person able to refund my $149.70. They stated in their e-mail to me that this was a 30-day membership, which is exactly what I thought I signed up for--no longer.Desired Settlement: I have been unfairly charged $149.70 for 6 months of an unauthorized membership. I request a refund for $149.70.

Business

Response:

The product you selected on 6/2/2013 ($14.95) is advertised as a monthly membership. As the initial order selection page displays, the first month is discounted at $14.95 and will renew monthly at the normal price of $24.95 until canceled. The automatic renewal is also mentioned on every page of checkout no less than three times on three pages of checkout.

PeopleFinders.com is a self-service website. Users are only charged for the products they select online. Membership is not required to use the service. Customers may choose to pay per-report or enroll in a membership.

Given that members can run unlimited searches for a monthly fee, our terms do not allow for refunds and simply allow users to cancel at any time to avoid future billings. Because it is a membership service we are providing usage is irrelevant. Per the terms you agreed to the charges are non-refundable.

Consumer

Response:

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)

I signed up only for the one month membership for $14.95 only because your website did not inform me that I had a single use option. As your records will confirm, I used the search once, which provided useless, outdated information. Your website is deceptive and ensnares people into this monthly automatic renewal by not providing an easy "opt out" option at the same time. My automatic renewal was not authorized by me.

Business

Response:

Charges are normally non-refundable per the terms you agreed to online. As a one-time courtesy and because you have not used the service recently we will grant two refunds of $24.95 for the most recent two months of membership. Your account is still closed and there will be no further automatic billing.

Review: Unauthorized billing of $24.99 annual subscription charges TWICE (!)

As it was notices previously by other complainers, I have ran 2 name searches back in May or Jun of 2013. The searches were INDIVIDUAL search results, NOT SUBCRIPTION-BASED. The company appear to forge the computer results and agreed to service description. While PeopleFinder agreed to reimburse me for $24.99 annual subscription fee on a ONE TIME BASIS, the still charged me $24.99 for the 2nd name search! That doesn't even make sense... WHY THE LEGIT COMPANY WOULD CHARGE THE SAME ACCOUNT THE ANNUAL FEE TWICE ONCE THE ANNUAL ACCOUNT HAS BEEN OPENED??? This is a wide open scam, and has to be looked into.Desired Settlement: I need a refund of ALL the annual subscription fees as they were never authorized.

Business

Response:

We have reviewed our files and our records show several orders for searches were placed by you on 5/31/2013. After the checkout process there was an advertisement for the People Finders Rewards program. It explains this monthly membership allows you to receive heavily discounted background checks on PeopleFinders.com. You had a choice to accept or decline the offer by clicking either "Yes, sign me up for PeopleFinders Rewards" or "No, do not sign me up"

You affirmatively selected to enroll in PeopleFinders Rewards on 5/31/2013. As the advertisement stated this grants you a seven day trial to the PeopleFinders Rewards program. It also states that if you do not wish to continue the service, you agree to cancel within the seven day trial period. If you do not cancel the membership fee of $24.99 will be charged to the credit card on file and will continue every month thereafter. The seven day trial had ended, so you were billed the $24.99 membership fee. Our customer service was available to take your cancellation at any time by phone, email or your online account manager.

You failed to contact us to cancel the membership until a phone call on 1/4/2014, seven months after it had been activated. The representative cancelled the membership per your request. Given that members have the ability to run background checks at $1.00 each instead of $49.95, our terms do not allow for any refunds but simply allow members to cancel and avoid future billing. Per your request over the phone, and as a onetime courtesy, we agreed to grant one refund of $24.99 for the most current month. The previous six months of charges are non-refundable per our terms, which you accepted online during checkout, and the amount of time that has passed since they occurred.

Review: Information represented to be available really is not

I was looking for history on one individual on marriage and divorce, when I called for some questions I was told records AFTER 1999 are not available, which tells me I totally wasted my money. If this exclusion is disclosed it is not done so in the interest of the customer, but the vendor. [redacted] Desired Settlement: A refund would be good. A clear disclosure would be the right thing to do as well.

Response:

Initial Business Response

Unfortunately, we do not have access to information about marriages and divorces in every state. Several states do not post that information online, so our system is unable to retrieve those records. You may be able to contact the county office where the marriage or divorce was filed. On the sample background report, which is available to you before paying, marriage and divorce coverage is listed. This discloses that in the state of Florida marriages records are not available after 1999.

PeopleFinders pays for access to the public record data that was generated in the background check, so the charge is for us to conduct a search on your behalf and not to return a specific result. Because of this our terms normally do not allow for refunds. As a onetime courtesy to you, we will issue a refund for $39.95. This amount will be shown on your credit card statement within five business days.

I signed up for a $.99 temp three day membership just to see how it worked. I clicked the "no thank you" button over and over to say I did not want to have the monthly subscription and I JUST wanted the one time search. My account got charged the $29.95 anyway. I call to get reimbursed and they refused to reimburse me.

I also find it odd that I will be the 57th complaint here on the Revdex.com and there is not one good review and yet they remain at a C on the Revdex.com.

Review: my son, age 14 used your service for .95 cents I caught it call you all cancelled it,but I got billed again forb 24.95. I want my money back an can

At the time of purchase you chose to receive a discounted price for signing up for a 3 day free trial to our 3-in-1 Membership. This membership allowed you to receive an unlimited number of:

*People Searches - Get the facts you need to find anyone, anywhere

*Email Searches - Obtain email addresses, or learn about the owner of any address

*Social Profile Searches - See updates on all of your friend's social profiles in one spot

*Marriage Searches - Find out if a man or woman has ever been married

*Divorce Searches - Check the divorce status of any man or woman

*Property Searches - Learn about any piece of property, including the current owner and value

You had the option to cancel this membership trial at anytime via your account manager on the website, via email, or via phone.

We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this trial. The 3 day trial has ended; therefore, you were billed $24.95 on the fourth day, and for every month thereafter.

Per your written request and as a onetime courtesy, we will grant the refund of $24.95 for one month. Please allow 2-5 business days for the refund to process back into your credit or debit card.

We have also cancelled your membership.

Review: I was trying to get an address for someone from "peoplefinder.com. I tried three times and was also charged three different times, but still did not get the answer for what they were advertising. They did give me information for someone whom I didn't ask for. I sent them e-mails and called to complain, but was told they don't offer refunds. Since I was signed up for a membership I didn't want, I did not want to do business with them anymore.Desired Settlement: I would at least like back the 8.30 that I spent. I have called and cancelled the membership they signed me up for without my permission, but looking at all the other complaints, I see that I need to keep watch over my accounts to ensure that they don't also charge me for this service anyways.

Business

Response:

We have reviewed our files and found that on 9/17/2014 this customer placed two orders. One for a normal price Public Records Report ($2.95) and the other for a discounted ($0.40) Statewide criminal Report fifteen minutes later. Our records show two charges on this account totaling $3.35. In choosing the discounted price ($0.40 instead of the normal price $5.95) they are affirmatively selecting to enroll in a 3 day trial to our services. This membership allowed them to receive an unlimited number of:

•People Searches – Get the facts you need to find anyone, anywhere

•Email Searches – Obtain email addresses, or learn about the owner of any address

•Social Profile Searches – See updates on all of your friend’s social profiles in one spot

•Marriage Searches – Find out if a man or woman has ever been married

•Divorce Searches – Check the divorce status of any man or woman

•Property Searches – Learn about any piece of property, including the current owner and value

They canceled the 3 day trial within the trial period via email on 9/18/2014. Therefore, they were not charged the membership fee on the fourth day.

We are sorry that they did not receive the results they were hoping for. When a report is ordered, our system searches through billions of public records and collects every piece of relevant information. PeopleFinders pays for access to this data, so the charge is for us to conduct a search on the customer's behalf, not to return a specific result. We are unable to provide a refund, but we will be happy to offer you a free search to help you find the facts you need. Please review the Terms of Use on PeopleFinders.com if you would like more information about refunds or other policies.

Review: I purchased a one-time report for $0.95 and specifically said no to the membership but was charged $24.95 to my account.

I purchased a one-time report for $0.95 and specifically said no to the membership but was charged $24.95 to my account. This is an unauthorized charge. Desired Settlement: PeopleFinders.com will refund $24.95 to my credit card account.

Review: Inaccurate information on their site.

The information that this site provides is totally inaccurate. Everything I have looked up so far concerning my name or relatives has been incorrect. They have also associated me with people I don't even know. They shouldn't even be charging for the information that they provide, if companies are using this information for verification purposes or credit purposes, etc. it is going to cause issues for people. They obviously are not a reputable company when they have so many compalints already filed against them. Desired Settlement: This company either needs to start verifying their information is correct or go out of business. I don't see how they can get away with posting so much inaccurate information online, to me that's the same as the newspapers or magazines reporting inaccurate information and could be considered defamation of character.

Consumer's Final Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)

There is no reolution. I fully understand how the company gets it's information, but if they are going to be in the business of posting this information online and charging for this information, they need to insure that the information they are providing is correct. I don't see how they can legally just post information and not insure that it is correct. To me that's the same as a newspaper or magazine printing information about someone and not verifying their information is correct, these publications get sued over this type of stuff, I don't see how it is is any more legal for them to do it, to me it's no different and I believe the courts would say the same thing.

Business' Final Response

Unfortunately, there is no specific place to update your records. You could possibly check with your local City Hall, and see if they can give you any information on their records. Review: I went on peoplefinders.com to see if I could find a relative back in January of 2014. They encourage you to sign up for $24.95 per month to obtain the information so I signed up and did my search. On Saturday while paying my credit card bill and I noticed a billing for PFREWARDS in the amount of $24.99. I didnt know what the billing was for so I called the number. As it turns out it was people finders but wait, I had a billing 4 days earlier from peoplefinders.com for $24.95. In fact, every month beginning in January they billed me twice and 4 days apart under two different names! I called people finders this morning to tell them about the error and asked them to credit my account $149.94 for the additional billing from PFREWARDS. The representative told me that I signed up for both because a clicked a box during my registration agreeing to an extra payment. Seriously, I certainly wouldnt choose to be double billed! I spoke with a rep and then her supervisor who would only credit me for the June billings. They both had the too bad so sad attitude that was so irritating! I have no interest in giving them more of my money so I cancelled my account/s! I contacted Capital One to see what they could do. They were fantastic. After hearing my story they wanted to go after all of the PFREWARDS billings since they began in January. Unfortunately,Capital One was unable to go after any of the overpayments due to the cancellation! I just went online and found out other people have fallen into this trap as well. What can we do to get my money back and stop them from doing this to others?Desired Settlement: I would like a refund and would like to see you contact them about their deceptive business practices and poor customer service. By the way, their site doesn't give results. I wasn't able to find the relative or anyone else I looked for.

Our records show on 1/5/2014 you selected to enroll in our PeopleFinders Monthly Membership. Our membership offers unlimited basic searching for a monthly fee. Immediately following this purchase you were presented with a full-page offer to our PeopleFinders Rewards program. This additional membership offers heavy discounts on the larger reports like the Comprehensive Background Check, which is not included in the basic Membership. It clearly and conspicuously states that by clicking "Yes, sign me up" you are enrolling in a free 7 day trial to PeopleFinders Rewards and if you do not wish to continue the service you will need to notify us in order to avoid future billing. You affirmatively selected to enroll in the PeopleFinders Rewards program on 1/5/2014. If your intention was not to enroll in this additional service you had selected the wrong option.

You failed to cancel either membership until a phone call to our Customer Care department on 6/23/2014, six months after the memberships had been initiated. We attempted to advise you that there are two membership on your account that provide two separate services on PeopleFinders.com. Given that members receive unlimited searches and other features for a monthly fee our terms do not allow for refunds and simply allow users to cancel anytime to avoid future billing. Per your request over the phone on 6/23/2014, and as a one time courtesy, we agreed to grant a refund for each of the most recent membership fees. One refund of $24.95 for the basic PeopleFinders Membership and one at $24.99 for the PeopleFinders Rewards Program. There are no other refunds available per the Terms you agreed to. Cancelling your accounts is unnecessary as now you have let us know you no longer want these services and your account is closed. There will be no further automatic billing. In conclusion, your account with PeopleFinders.com is closed and we have refunded a total of $49.94 as a courtesy.

Hello my name is [redacted] I filed a complaint on Friday August 14, 2015

Review: Hi! I used peoplefinder.com to search for a person using a phone number and the location was Texas. I choose the lowest price they had of $0,95 and at the moment of paying, an additional $0,50 were charged. A CATCHY advertisement for $0,95 offered to give me my report immediately through email. All I got was an email saying that they number is from Texas, which I already knew.I used my credit card to pay for this and I NEVER saw or READ anywhere that I was signing up for a membership of $24,95, Are you kidding me? and that I had 4 days to cancel it! I just found the charges in my credit card today and called their number displayed in my bank account as follows: CFK*PEOPLEFINDERS - CA ($24.95) I had the most rude young girl on the phone and she impatiently cross talk asking me to spell my email address because she couldn't find it. At the end, she hang up on me and wished me a good day. I called again they answered and hang up several times, until finally they have to answer. Evidently, the person who answered was informed of me and begin to give me an attitude as well, as I begin to complain about their service and how DECEIVING was their ADVERTISEMENT and the UNFAIR charges on my credit card she said that she will cancel my membership (Membership that I NEVER bough voluntarily). She argued that it was disclosed.I NEVER saw any disclosure anywhere! At the end, I paid for a service I did not received. The large charges were made in August 6. Since I canceled, I will not have any access to the account ( account that I didn't know I have!!) and at the end of this awful deceiving transaction I have been charged total of $26,40 and got NOTHING in return. No name, address or specific location! In my job, we're looking for this person because of scam charges of $1600 in a stolen credit card and the shipment that we supposed to do was to Africa. The fraudulent activity took place @3:49AM and that was our red flag but Peoplefinder.com didn't deliver trusted services! I got robbed!Desired Settlement: I would like to have a TOTAL REFUND of the charges in my credit card for the total amount of $26,40 due to a DECEIVING ADVERTISEMENT AND PUBLIC TRUST, LACK OF DELIVERING INFORMATION REPORT and REALLY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. I have been robbed by Peoplefinder.com and I have faith in you guys to stop this kind of business for ripping people off! Pls get back to me as your earliest convenience to discuss this matter by making contact through email. Thank you!

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:If I would it known the terms that you are disclosing at the time of using the service, I would accept the responsibility of the charges. This business setting allows the public to be DECEIVED with the low fees that are integrated into flashy colors overriding any other terms. In marketing terms, this is consider FALSE AND DECEIVING MARKETING STRATEGIES and I will not fall for this voluntarily. I am 100% confident that this company is making millions of dollars over this FALSE ADVERTISEMENT and I am a consumer and as a CONSUMER I have the right to accept or reject the charges that you've IMPOSED in my credit card without my authorization. The business etiquette and attitude of the employees when dealing with consumers complaints are really bad. The arrogant attitude, the cross talking and talking down on me was extremely unprofessional, not to mention the CARELESS attitude towards me. This company is providing a WRONG customer service and image while making money from consumers that did not understand their business deal as in my case, and I should not pay for a service that I don't even used and I never received ANY information in return. So far, I can only say that this business is a scam business with a very bad customer service and reputation. Even a retail store would be more understanding of their faults than your current attitude towards my particular case.I will not accept the charges in my credit card.[redacted]

Review: Signed up for a membership with peoplefinder.com. Our records indicate you have already been assisted with this matter. Fifteen minutes after your initial request for a supervisor you called our Customer Care department again. A supervisor was available at that time and spoke with you. They agreed to refund the membership fee of $24.95 as a onetime courtesy. This amount will be shown on your credit card statement within five business days. Going forward, if you select to enroll in a three day trial membership with us and do not cancel within that time period you will be responsible for the membership fee. Response:

First and foremost, we find the vulgar and disrespectful language this customer has used when interacting with our representatives via email, phone and on this complaint extremely inappropriate. We will not tolerate our representatives being treated in this manner and will not be responding to any further contact if the same tone is used. The product this customer selected on 6/10/2015 was not a one-time only fee nor did it say this during checkout. If their intention was to order the report only with no membership attached they had, in fact, selected the wrong product. They are free to actaully review how the Report + Trial product is presented on the website. For their convenience, we have included the pre-purchase URL they viewed below. [redacted]

The customer failed to cancel the three day trial they agreed to within the three day trial period. Therefore they were billed $24.95 for the membership on the fourth day. This was disclosed clearly and conspicuously on each page of checkout. This customer informed the first representative they spoke with on 6/15/2015 that they had already contacted their credit card company and filed a dispute. When a charge is disputed a conditional refund is issued by the bank; therefore we cannot offer them a refund. Later, during a subsequent call, the customer revealed that the charge had actually not been disputed and that it was just a threat. Given this new information the representative agreed to refund the $24.95 membership fee as a one-time courtesy only. In conclusion on 6/15/2015 we issued one refund of $24.95 as a courtesy, the customer is responsible for the initial trial cost of $0.95 and given the previous verbal and written abuse from customer their PeopleFinders.com account was completely closed as of today. We recommend the customer makes sure their credit card company is aware of the refund granted by us as if we do receive a dispute in the future we will negate our refund.

Review: April 12, 2014To the Revdex.com,On about Feb 12, 2014 I requested a one time service from peoplefinders.com. They advertised a reverse phone look up service to provide the identity of the person associated with a phone number. When I put in the phone number, the site stated that it could provide the identity information requested. Specifically they said the owners name and address was available if I agreed to a charge. There were two options available. One was a one report only charge of $9.95 . The other was a cheaper charge of $1.95 which was a 3 day trial membership. I chose the one report only $9.95 option. They requested my credit card information. Then I received an email the following day which I have copied and pasted below.Hello [redacted],Occasionally reports need to be manually run by our search specialists to ensure the highest level of quality. All Rights Reserved. I waited and never heard any information back about the above request. I counted it as a loss, but then I just noticed that the company had billed my credit card the amount of $24.99 in February and March of 2014. When I called Customer Care at Peoplefinders.com today (April 12, 2014) to dispute the charges, they said it was too late to dispute the charges. They said they would send me an email showing that I was requesting closure of the membership however I did not get the email from them, and I never requested an ongoing membership with them to begin with.I think the whole service is a scam. I received absolutely nothing from them. Thanks for your help,[redacted]Desired Settlement: Please refund the $24.99 paid on the February credit card bill, and the take off the $24.99 charge submitted by Peoplefinders.com on my March credit card bill.

Response:

The order placed on 2/12/2014 for $9.95 did not return any information. You were not charged for this order but after that checkout process an offer was displayed for our PeopleFinders Rewards program. This allows you to get discounts on the different reports offered on our website. Our records show you affirmatively selected to enroll in this program by clicking "Yes, sign me up for PeopleFinders Rewards." We did not receive notification that you wished to cancel this within your 7 day trial period, therefore you were billed $24.99 on the eighth day and for every month thereafter. We have cancelled this membership for you per your request over the phone on 4/12/2014. Today we have refunded two charges of $24.99 as a one time courtesy. Please allow 2 to 5 business days for this credit to reflect.

Review: The public needs to be aware that PeopleFinders.com pulls a "bait and switch" deal to get the public's money. I did a reverse search on a phone number that called me, as it was a potential seller on [redacted] and before I went to meet the caller, I wanted to see if it was legitimate. Peoplefinders site said they had the information I requested, but after I gave my credit card information for the .95 fee , suddenly the site changed to the information was not available, so even though it was .95 it is now a matter of principle and I would like my money refunded. When I called Peoplefinders, they said the money is not refundable, so as I and many others I've spoken to about this, Peoplefinders are thieves and should be shut down.Desired Settlement: refund my .95

Response:

We are sorry that you did not receive the results you were hoping for. When you order a report, our system searches through billions of public records and collects every piece of relevant information. PeopleFinders pays for access to this data, so the charge is for us to conduct a search on your behalf, not to return a specific result. We are unable to provide a refund, but we will be happy to offer you a free search to help you find the facts you need. Please review the Terms of Use on PeopleFinders.com if you would like more information about refunds or other policies.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: bait and switch. The merchant claimed to definitively have the information strictly to get the payment. Once the merchant got payment, suddenly they claim they are being "paid to do a search." They need to inform the public BEFORE the public submits payment, they are doing the search- not get payment by claiming to have information. This is fraud. I am going to contact an attorney to see about a class action law suit. The site is set up so that you do an initial search yourself submitting name and reverse phone information and peoplefinders.com will say whether or not they have the information requested. In this particular case, they indicated the information requested would be given once payment is made. SPECIFICALLY STATED: WE HAVE THE INFORMATION YOU REQUESTED. I then made payment. They then said, " We do not have the information you requested". This is a no-brainer bait and switch. Based on this, I want my refund, and this site needs to be shut down for FRAUD.

Review: Hidden language about one-time use actually creating a monthly subscription.

I used this service once and it automatically signed me up for a monthly subscription at a cost of $24.95 on my credit card. Because this was beneath my radar, I did not notice the charge for eight months. This cost me $200 dollars. People Finders uses deceptive practices and hides the fact that a one time use creates a perpetual subscription. Desired Settlement: I used this service once and it automatically signed me up for a monthly subscription at $24.95 a month in a manner that I did not notice for 8 months on my monthly bill because it was beneath my radar, so to speak. This cost me $200 before I noticed it. Use of their service is misleading and meant to deceive.

We have reviewed our records and found that an order for a search was made by this customer on 2/19/2013. The customer has a choice to accept a special discounted price available with a monthly membership or the full price for the search without membership. If a customer does not wish to enroll in membership they may choose the full price for one report. The membership provides a three day trial to try our services. Our membership service provides unlimited searches and other features for a monthly fee. This is clearly and conspicuously disclosed on the initial order selection page. Then the consumer is provided with an entire page outlining the terms of the membership which clearly and conspicuously states that after the initial trial, unless the consumer cancels the service the service will continue monthly and the card they provided will be charged until they tell us to cancel their membership to avoid future charges. The membership is mentioned no less than three times on three pages before the order is complete.

Given that members can conduct unlimited searches for a monthly membership fee our terms do not allow for any refunds and simply allow members to cancel anytime to avoid future charges. For the period of the membership the customer will be charged each month. During that time, our customer service is available to take the cancellation at any time.

On 12/11/2013 we closed this account per the customer's request over the phone. As a one time courtesy we agreed to grant one refund of $24.95 for the most recent membership fee. The remaining charges are non-refundable per the terms he agreed to on 2/19/2013 and the amount of time that has passed since these charges occurred.

Response:

Our records show you have already been assisted with this matter and have been notified of the resolution several times via email. We have already received and processed your opt out request. Again, your information no longer appears in search results. We want to make sure you are aware that anytime you publicly report your information to companies and organizations, this information may be updated in public record databases and therefore will return results when doing a search for public record files.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Review: I called and emailed requesting that my personal home address be removed and/or blocked from public viewing via their website. In the email I sent, I provided copies of 2 stalker/harassement police reports I have on file with the LAPD. The customer service agents I spoke to were defensive, condescending and belligerent. The first person said I could "try" to have it removed by sending over the police reports. The second said I need to speak with a manager. Most recently I did find one customer service rep who was helpful and said they would work on removing the information. He said it should take 24-48 hours. 3 days later, my information is still live and available for everyone to see.I feel personally threatened with my home information so easily available and accessible and I am furious that my request is not being accommodated and being handled so poorly.Desired Settlement: I would like my property address to be removed from their site.

Business

Response:

We have reviewed our files and found that we received and processed your opt out request via mail. Then you pointed out an additional listing to us over the phone on 6/24/2014. This was reported to our IT department and removed that same day. When visiting the same page where the listing you were referring to before appeared we no longer find your listing. Our records indicate it has successfully been removed. Please keep in mind that anytime you publicly report your information to companies and organizations, this information may be updated in public record databases and therefore will return results when doing a search for public record files. If you see your name appear on our site again you will need to notify us so we can remove it. We are one of hundreds of websites that provide this information.

Review: I went online to PeopleFinders to find a phone number. The charge listed was $0.95. When I got my credit card bill, I saw that I was charged $25.00.

I was charged for a subscription. I called the company and talked to [redacted]. I cancelled my subscription, which had been started in error. But [redacted] refused to refund the charge. I believe that this is done purposely and was not just an innocent mistake. I believe that this is false advertising and is illegal.Desired Settlement: I am requesting a reversal of the credit charge of the amount over the $0.95 charge that I made.

You failed to cancel within the three days to avoid the $24.95 membership fee as agreed. The charge of $24.95 is non-refundable per the terms you agreed to.

Final Consumer Response

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)

I do not accept that they are right. I accept that there is nothing that I can do about it and it is not worth the trouble to continue fighting it. Notwithstanding their statement above that all of this is clear on their webpage, I did not see it. My only recourse is to NEVER EVER EVER deal with this company again. I still believe that they are engaging in false or misleading advertising. I believe that they are a pack of thieves who prey on the unsuspecting. The only saving grace is that the amount is not large.
