Peoplefinders.com Reviews (932)

Our specific complaints are simply a repeat of well over a 1000 hyper negative complaints/ratings against Peoplefinders. In addition to well over 1,000 hyper negative complaints/ratings on other sites just the Revdex.com alone notes almost 500 complaints to them in the past 3 years alone.

We have read hundreds of the nearly 100% hyper negative complaints/ratings. In our opinion they all generally fall into 2 scam genres, as follows:

Scam Genre #1:

Their site is fraudulently deceptive to the extreme by tricking people into being billed typically $19.95 for a so called extensive report. They are tricked into thinking it would be only $2.95 if they cancel within 3 days. Plus people are tricked into reoccurring monthly membership charges to their cards, viz. $24.95 mo. if they miss Peoplefinders obfuscated 3 day cancellation requirement. So as an example a customer who thinks by ordering a report and canceling within 3 days he/she will be charged $2.95 actually will be charged $2.95 plus $19.95 for the report. And if the customer misses Peoplefinders obfuscated 3 day cancellation requirement they additionally will be charged within 4 days another $24.95 membership for that 1st month and every month thereafter until they cancel. We were tricked into all the above except for the $24.95.

Scam Genre #2:

People finders offer a more limited People Search Report, or a supposedly more extensive Background Report they claim is the best deal. Major complainants claim the basic reports are inaccurate, and superficial. Further the more extensive reports are nearly, if not all, listed as "no records"(nothing). Whereupon many complainants claim to have subsequently obtained extensive report info from other more legitimate background search cos that Peoplefinders did not provide.

Key point: The extensive info would cost Peoplefinders much more to obtain hence it is much more profitable to not obtain it, yet charge for it anyway.

Key point: "No records found" does not mean there are no records. It just means that no matter how superficial Peoplefinders search they found "no records".

We speculate that Peoplefinders probably have some very limited, "on the cheap", essentially phony source for their so called "extensive background search". But nothing like their legitimate competitors use. But that is not the impression People Finders give on their web site.

For example: The report we had Peoplefinders run came up with mostly out of date inaccurate yadda yadda on their "standard report", plus "No Records Found" on all their "extensive report". Whereas one of their competitors came up with substantial and accurate info for us on all counts. And with no hassles, straight forward, no deception.

As with most complainants who contacted Peoplefinders we were stonewalled & rudely treated. Whereupon we had our credit card co. reverse all charges. Further after that we escalated the issue to the supervisor who volunteered to additionally contact the Revdex.com. Plus he volunteered to escalate this to our credit card co., possibly to others.

People Finders have practiced equivocated answers for all complaints. They have become "petty masters of deception" in our opinion - they have become quite diabolically clever at what most any reasonable person will conclude is a cleverly contrived scheme to cheat customers no matter what their yadda yadda. They could prevent the vast majority of complaints by simply straight forward wording that clearly emphasizes their deal to customers. But that is not their cynical business model.

Hence we are further escalating the issue to the CA attorney general.

Review: I needed to look up a phone number and went to Peoplefinders to find it. The advertised charge for it is .95 cents. I'm now being charged 24.95!!

I tried very hard to ensure that all I was purchasing was a one time phone number search. If I somehow chose some membership, the website is INCREDIBLY deceptive, as something for a discount DID pop up, but I made sure not to select it. I did NOT intentionally, nor do I recall choosing ANYTHING that would have given me any type of membership or trial. There is NO way that their sales practice can be seen as anything but deceiving when I intentionally tried to avoid being sucked into memberships or trials, but find both a .95 cent charge and some monthly $24.95 charge coming from my account. Why would I have paid the .95 cents if that kind of search would have been included in the $24.95 monthly charge? I was charged for BOTH, which makes absolutely no sense. The phone number I PAID for with the .95 cents didn't even work: it wasn't valid. I have no complaint there, because it happens--but I had no clue that I was going to be charged for anything else, and I don't believe I selected anything on the site that would have put me into a membership. Shady, shady, shady. Desired Settlement: I want my $24.95 refunded. I had no intention of purchasing anything other than a phone number. How that charge came to be is beyond me. I tried calling today and have to wait for their time. I cancelled this membership, I THINK," but I was SO disappointed to see this site did this to me. I thought that as long as I made sure to look at what I was clicking, I wouldn't be charged. That's not the case. I see that they keep these charges from others, by suggesting the people click on some discounted service. They're tricking people somehow into clicking on something to get their one time service--and I didn't even see it. I saw NO way that I was accepting anything other than a .95 cent service--which didn't work anyway. I want the refund for that $24.95 that was no where in my scope of understanding when I purchased the .95 phone number.

Review: Company practices deceptive advertising tactics. Wanted only one-time service, but failed to see very fine print that I had to cancel within 3 days

Service is advertised online as free. It is not. There is a charge for one-time information and fine print that attempts to hide the fact that you will be billed monthly for 10 times the one-time fee if you don't cancel a "membership" after three days. At no time did I sign up for a "membership."Desired Settlement: I wish some kind of settlement because of the deceptive advertising and unethical business practice. I can't believe they have an A rating from a Revdex.com. I have found numerous similar complaints on line, including hundreds on the Revdex.com website.

The customer has a choice to accept a special discounted price available with a monthly membership or the full price for the search without membership. If a customer does not wish to enroll in membership they may choose the full price for one report. The membership provides a three day trial to try our services. Our membership service provides unlimited searches and other features for a monthly fee. This is clearly and conspicuously disclosed on the initial order selection page. Then the consumer is provided with an entire page outlining the terms of the membership which clearly and conspicuously states that after the initial trial, unless the consumer cancels the service the service will continue monthly and the card they provided will be charged until they tell us to cancel their membership to avoid future charges. The membership is mentioned no less than three times on three pages before the order is complete.

Given that members can conduct unlimited searches for a monthly membership fee our terms do not allow for any refunds and simply allow members to cancel anytime to avoid future charges. For the period of her membership the customer will be charged each month. During that time, our customer service is available to take the cancellation at any time. Our website requires payment for information and does not state that it is free anywhere on the site.

I used the service one time and the company billed me for over a year 24.95. Do not give them a credit card number. They trick you from the first time you use it.

Review: On 5/28/15 I agreed to pay $.99 to obtain a phone number for an individual. This amount was debited from my checking account. On 6/1/15 I was checking my account and saw that Peoplefinders debited an additional $24.95 on 5/31/15. I called as soon as I saw this to tell them that I never authorized such a charge and never received any goods in return for that payment and to please credit my account. They refused. Their service is a scam to try to extort monies from people who sign up to receive a minimal service for $.99 and then 3 days later debit additional monies. I am sure they prey on people who do not check their accounts on a consistent basis. Please also note that the service I did receive for $.99 was totally inaccurate.Desired Settlement: $24.95 to be credited to my account for their fraudulent practices.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: My original payment of $.99 was to obtain a phone #. I was given 3 phone #s which were actually wrong #s. I did not agree to any further service from PeopleFinders. There may have been some very small print somewhere that I totally inadvertently checked. This is a company's way of scamming people who do not realize that they are agreeing to a service they do not want. If they were an upstanding company, they would have that service in large, bolded print. But because they are not a reputable company, THEY DO NOT and I am sure people are scammed all the time by this. I REJECT their claims.

Review: On May 19th 2015, I placed a called to "customer care" department to advise that they were taking money out of my debit account without my knowledge. The 1st rude young girl stated that a request was made with their company on May 13th, I advise I am unaware, nor authorized this transaction. She basically called me a liar, advised her need to have resolved, she asked for my credit card # over the phone, advised would not give out since I had not the 1st time, she called me rude and transferred me to a supervisors voice mail. I called back got the 2nd rude young girl, same conversation transpired, no assistance nor offer to resolve, asked to speak with supervisor then transfer to a voicemail. I called back got the 3rd rude young girl, same conversation except she whispers in the phone 'Have a fabulous day' and acts like she hung up but was still on the line(playing games), I stayed on line with the silence until a "manager" named [redacted] id#[redacted] came on line, her 1st words were "you listen to me" when I would try and answer her questions she would interrupt me and attack me on a personal level. [redacted] never stated she would take care of the problem, nor refund any of my money that was taken by these people-unauthorized. In fact she told me that all calls are recorded and calls like these are what they train their "customer service" people with in how to deal with "difficult" customer. She stated that she did not care that I had a title or initials behind my name, they would not put up with me? I was unable to get a word in edgewise, I believe it was a tactic by this supervisor to keep yelling/talking and personally attacking me in order to not resolve the problem of fraudulently taking peoples money. She hung up on me and left me with no choice but to consider legal action, no matter the dollars amount which is now over $20 they have my credit card information that I did not give them nor authorize to use. These people have to be the rudest, ignorant and inhumane I have ever experienced.Desired Settlement: The $23 dollars taken unauthorized from my checking accounts and agreement not to charge my account again.

Response:

PeopleFinders.com is a self-service website. Users may select a product, continue through checkout and complete registration. Our records show an order for a search was placed through PeopleFinders.com on 5/13/2015 using information that exactly matches the information you provided here on this complaint. Two purchases were made on this day by the same user. As there was also a membership selected by the user on 5/13/2015 an automatically renewing membership fee was charged on the fourth day 5/17/2015. PeopleFinders.com takes unauthorized use very seriously and have reviewed the multiple calls from you on 5/19/2015. We found that given the contradicting statements you made to the representatives they had a difficult time determining if someone else used your information to make this purchase on our site or you made the purchase and simply did not mean to sign up. Either way, the supervisor was eventually able to determine that you did not make this purchase on PeopleFinders.com. She attempted to advise you, during two separate calls within minutes of each other, that the registration information would be blocked and you should see a refund of all charges in 3-5 business days. As you were continually talking over the representatives during all phone calls this was difficult to convey to you. We feel this issue is resolved as the account was closed and a full refund was issued back to the card that was used by the user on PeopleFinders.com.

Review: Not only the person would not let me talk to supervisor nor another personnel to help me the person hung up on me 3 times. I asked how he (the company) got my bank information, a refund from February of 2015 - May of 2015. I even asked him to talk to [redacted] (the CEO) of the company.Desired Settlement: He needs back-up for consumers who have complaints instead of hanging up on the customers. And for that reason I would like a full refund of $79.80 to be credited back to my account and to discontinue anymore communications with this company.

Response:

Our records show the account was created on 2/15/2015. An order for a search was placed, registration information was provided including the billing information and the checkout was completed. At the time of purchase you chose to receive a discounted price ($0.95) for signing up for a 3 day trial to our Membership. This membership allowed you to receive an unlimited number of:•People Searches – Get the facts you need to find anyone, anywhere•Email Searches – Obtain email addresses, or learn about the owner of any address•Marriage Searches – Find out if a man or woman has ever been married•Divorce Searches – Check the divorce status of any man or woman•Property Searches – Learn about any piece of property, including the current owner and valueYou had the option to cancel this membership trial at anytime via your account manager on the website, via email, or via phone. We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this trial. The 3 day trial has ended; therefore, you were charged the membership fee on the fourth day, and for every month thereafter. We have reviewed your account and found that you successfully logged in and closed it entirely on 5/24/2015. The most recent membership fee of $24.95 was refunded because you would not longer have access to the services. The previous months are non-refundable per the Terms you agreed to. Upon reviewing the phone call you are referring to we found that this was explained and you were offered a supervisor's voicemail in order to receive a call back as they were currently unavailable. You declined to leave a voicemail. In conclusion, you will receive one refund of $24.95 as a courtesy, your account is closed and there will be no further automatic billing.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. I never got the chance to leave a message for anyone .The person I talked to didn't give me the option. I had asked over and over to speak to someone personally and the person told me there was no one there to help me. I even asked to talk to [redacted]. So therefore this matter is not completed.

Review: This organization is scamming people by using an all but hidden automatic billing policy. They offer a $0.95 1 day trial and then bill you $24.95 every month which you do not realize until you get a statement from your credit card company. you will not be backed-up by your credit card company as they deem it legal. It is deceptive in every way.Desired Settlement: $49.90 Credit to my credit card.

Business

Response:

At the time of purchase you chose to receive a discounted price ($0.95), instead of the normal price for the same report ($1.95), for signing up for a 3 day trial to our Membership. The automatic renewal is mentioned in standard text on each page of checkout. Per your initial request over the phone on 4/25/2015 we cancelled the automatic renewal of your membership. You have stated that you have already contacted your bank or Credit Card Company and filed a dispute. Often, due to the dispute, you are given a conditional refund by your bank; therefore we cannot offer you a refund. Please allow time for your financial institution to review the charges for validity. Usually this process will take a few billing cycles and they will notify you of the outcome via mail. You will now need to follow their policies and procedures regarding these charges.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: This is a scam. These people are rip-off artists. How can they set terms like those in their response. It is ridiculous.

Review: I am a victim of a scam-clever bait & switch. On 11-15-14 I tried to locate an old friend on People Search. I gave my credit card number for a 95 cent charge. Somehow I got switched to People Finders.com for a "FREE" 3 day trial "membership." That same evening I got 3 emails from PF.com. One "accepted" as a member. 2. after my call, they canceled my "membership." 3rd, They charged me $39.95. ALL ON THE SAME EVENING.

After my call to their 800 number, I was told brusquely, if not rudely, "talk to your bank," ([redacted]), which I did. My bank person said the $39.95 was "pending." The monthly [redacted] bill I being prepared today - 11-18-14. The $39.95 may or may not appear. If it does, I was told to call the bank's dispute resolution person, which I will.

Yesterday, I spoke with one of your agents. She was familiar with People Finders. Thus your company knows them. They are near you.

I am 81 years old, a veteran of Korean service. I am not stupid, but I was scammed. Your response and help will be appreciated. PHONE # [redacted] or EMAIL ABOVE.

I TRIED TO EMAIL YOU BUT FAILED YESTERDAY.Desired Settlement: $39.95 will not kill us, but will sure hurt us on a retire/fixed income couple budget.

Business

Response:

As you stated an order for a search was placed by you on 11/15/2014. You selected a $0.95 People Search PLUS free trial. A few minutes later you proceeded to purchase a $39.95 Comprehensive Background Report on the same individual. As stated during checkout, Background Reports are not included in the trial membership you selected for $0.95. We received your cancellation over the phone on 11/16/2014, within the three day trial therefore you were not billed the membership fee of $24.95 on the fourth day. Your original purchase is not affected.

On 11/19/2014 we received an alert from your credit card company. Essentially, your card company alerted us that your card information had been compromised and another person made this purchase without your knowledge or permission. Per that alert we have fully refunded the charges.

Consumer

Response:

My complaint is resolved. Peoplefinders.com has issued a refund of $39.95 to my credit card + an "apology" of sorts. Thanks for Revdex.com's concern and assistance. I have learned to be a little smarter in regard to potential scammers.

Review: I thought I was buying a phone number or address from Peoplefinders.com. They charged my credit card $2.99 then again charged another $3. The information was pointless. It did not work and was invalid. I received my credit card bill and they are now charging me an additional $25 for services rendered. I can see paying the original charges because I did use them even though it was worthless. But to continue to charge me additional fees is crazy. They will not return my money and I feel they are cheating customers with hidden charges. They are a shady company that does not follow through with useful information.Desired Settlement: I want my $25 back. And I think people need to be made aware of the services rendered or not rendered in my case.

PeopleFinders has access to billions of public records, including the most recent and 40-years worth of historical data. This allows us to provide information about most every person or business in the United States. Public records are created from a variety of sources, including phone directories, property records, birth and death records, magazine subscriptions and voter registration cards. Although PeopleFinders provides public records, we do not create or modify them in any way. We are only able to display the information provided in each record, so we cannot guarantee their accuracy. New public records are created every day, so PeopleFinders is always able to offer the most up-to-date and accurate information possible; however, this information must be publicly reported by the person. At the time of purchase you chose to receive a discounted price for signing up for a 3 day trial to our Membership. We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this trial. The 3 day trial had ended; therefore, you were charged the membership fee on the fourth day, and for every month thereafter. Please allow 2-5 business days for the refund to process back into your credit or debit card.

I accept the response from People finders. They are refunding my money and we have settled our issue.

Review: Underhanded way of obtaining a contract. I paid a time .99 cent fee & somehow was roped into a monthly contract of 24.99/month because I failed to cancel "subscription" that I didn't realize I had entered into within 3 days of one-time use.Desired Settlement: Would like to put an end to this type behavior so others do not get ripped off as well.

Review: Peoplefinders automatically enrolled me in a monthly sevice plan, when I only agreed to a one-time search charge.

Peoplefinders started charging me a monthly fee of $24.95 after I did a one-time search in July. I didn't notice this charge until I got my November credit card statement. Peoplefinders insisted that I signed up for this monthly program because I didn't cancel within 3 days. I did not agree to a monthly program. The product you purchased ($0.95) is not a one time only fee. It is advertised as a trial membership. At the time of purchase on 7/5/2013 you chose to receive a discounted price ($0.95) instead of the normal priced report ($1.95) for signing up for a 3 day free trial to our 3-in-1 Membership.

You had the option to cancel this membership trial at anytime via your account manager on the website, via email, or via phone.

We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this membership until 11/14/2013, five months after you had enrolled. The 3 day trial has ended; therefore, you were billed $24.95 on the fourth day, and for every month thereafter.

Per your request over the phone on 11/14/2013, and as a onetime courtesy, we have granted a refund of $24.95 for one month. Please allow 2-5 business days for the refund to process back into your credit or debit card. The membership fees from prior months are non-refundable per the terms you agreed to.

The charge for $24.99 is for our PeopleFinders Rewards program. This is separate from memberships for unlimited searching on the site. You had the choice to select "Yes, sign me up" or "No, don't sign me up" You affirmatively selected to enroll in this membership on 7/5/2013 through a full-page advertisement after your checkout. People Finders Rewards allows you to get discounts on the different reports offered on our website. We did not receive notification that you wished to cancel this within your 7 day trial period, therefore you were billed $24.99. As a onetime courtesy we have cancelled this membership for you and have refunded one charge of $24.99. Please allow 2 to 5 business days for this credit to reflect. Again, the membership fees from prior months are non-refundable per the terms you agreed to.

Final Consumer Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)

I want to make sure that all memberships are canceled and that all billings cease. I would not have intentionally signed up for any membership with Peoplefinders when my intent was for a one-time address lookup. After some internet research I found that other people stated that Peoplefinders bury the information about the monthly membership in the fine print, so people don't realize that they need to cancel within three days to avoid additional charges. I am not satisfied with the credit of only $24.95.

Final Business Response

Because you have been granted a courtesy refund your account with PeopleFinders.com is closed. The trial membership is explained in standard text no less than four times before the order is complete. We feel this is very clear and have even devoted a full page to explaining the membership coverage and the automatic renewal. We also give you a second opportunity to decline the trial and pay full price after the membership coverage is explained. Consumers are responsible for reading and understanding what they are purchasing online.

Per the terms you agreed to on 7/5/2013 the charges are normally non-refundable. We will grant two additional refunds. One at $24.95 and the other at $24.99. You failed to contact us until five months after your membership had been started. The other charges are non-refundable per our terms and because of the amount of time that has passed since they occurred.

Public records are collected from thousands of sources. Here are a few examples:

Supermarket Rewards Cards:

Every time anyone makes a purchase from a grocery store or drugstore with a loyalty or "rewards" card, that information is used to build a very personal profile of your shopping habits.

Product Warranty and Registration Cards:

Do you fill out the warranty and product registration cards for every new product you purchase? If so, you probably assume this is standard procedure for making sure your warranty is valid. In fact, warranty and product registration cards do very little for the consumer. Moreover, all your personal information on warranty cards is collected and used for marketing purposes.

Raffles and Sweepstakes:

Though raffles and sweepstakes offer a one-in-a-million chance of winning some type of luxury item, free gym memberships or dream vacations you should be aware how your contact information is used. Often, you are asked to proved Name, address and phone number as a means of contacting you in the event you should win. In reality, this information is used for direct marketing purposes.

You do not always have to enter a raffle or surf the Internet for someone to collect personal data about you. In fact, many of the activities and responsibilities you have as a member of society, property owner and licensed driver contribute to what is known as your "Public Profile." Other sources include voter registration, hunting and fishing licenses, magazine subscriptions and much more.

We apologize for any inconvenience. We have suppressed your information as of today; however, anytime you publicly report your information to companies and organizations, this information may be updated in public record databases and therefore will return results when doing a search for public record files. If you see your name appear on our site you will need to notify us so we can remove it. We are one of hundreds of websites that provide this information.

Business' Initial Response

Hello,

Our records indicate that you have already been assisted with this matter.

For the period of the membership the customer will be charged each month. During that time, our customer service is available to take the cancellation at any time.

Our records show per your request over the phone on 7/22/2013 your account was closed and you were granted two refunds of $24.95 each as a onetime courtesy. There will be no further automatic billing.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please call our Customer Care Team during the hours listed below at (XXX) XXX-XXXX. Thank you for contacting PeopleFinders.com.

Consumer's Final Response

As of 8/8/2013 Peoplefinders has refunded 2 x $ 24.95 .

The total loss I suffered is 5 x $24.95. I am not satisfied with Peoplefinders' response.

Business' Final Response

As stated in our Terms of Use, we do not offer refunds for the product you ordered. As a onetime exception we had granted two refunds of $24.95 on 7/22/2013. There are no further refunds available. The account was closed on 7/22/2013 and there will be no further automatic billing.

Review: I have been billed since Aug 2013 for a service I never asked for at $24.95 a month. I called and complained to [redacted]. nothing has happened.. How can I stop this fee from automatically being taken out of my checking account and be reimbursed for payment?Desired Settlement: I want to be reimbursed for my payment of $24.95 a month for 14 months

Response:

Hello,

At the time of purchase on 8/21/2013 you chose to receive a discounted price for signing up for a 3 day trial to our Membership.

You had the option to cancel this membership trial at anytime via your account manager on the website, via email, or via phone.

We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this trial. The 3 day trial ended; therefore, as stated on the website, you were charged the membership fee on the fourth day and for every month thereafter.

Per your request over the phone on 9/26/2014 we granted two refunds of $24.95, as a courtesy. Per this complaint we will grant one additional refund of $24.95. Please allow 7-10 business days for this to process back to your credit or debit card.

The remaining ten months of membership fees are your responsibility per the Terms you agreed to. In conclusion we have granted three refunds totaling $74.85, your account is closed and there will be no further automatic billing.

Response:

This customer chose to purchase a window of time on our self-controlled website and

what they choose to do with that time is up to them. They are granted access to

login and use it every day, whether that be sporadically or never. Either way

the service we are providing is the ability to access our database at any time.

If they no longer want the service that is being provided they are able to

cancel at any time via the website, email or phone. Our contact information is

listed on the website and beside each charge on the customer’s statement. For

the period of their membership the customer was charged each month. During that

time, our customer service was available to take the cancellation at any time. We

did not receive notice that the customer no longer wanted this service until thirteen

months after the membership was initiated.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: peoplefinders is a scam....I never signed up for it and can't stop it.... it has 161 complaints against it and the site should be closed down. It is everything a senior (or individual) is told to look out for. I have been automatically billed for 13 months at $25 a month for something I never subscribed to. I need more than 2 months compensation and I better not still be being billed.

This company is a scam. $.95 for a three day membership that does not allow you to look at any information that you can't already see for free. Then if you try to cancel the membership they charge a $2.95 "cancellation" fee. When you sign up it says you can cancel at any time. Customer service said the $2.95 was towards the monthly membership fee. I don't know how they live with themselves.

I signed up on a landing page....internet website... that was NOT People Finders. After signing up IT turned out to be... (PEOPLE FINDERS!) I used them before and their information was dated and not helpful. I immediately cancelled. They would not give me a refund.

All the addresses I got from them before to be used for my old customer data base was 4 to 5 years old.

It cost me a lot of money in postage due to very old information!

Review: PeopleFinders is intentionally trying to confuse people with their advertising and billing policies. I signed up for their service which costed $19.99 per month but they said that if I canceled within the first 3 days, I would only be charged a $2.95 cancellation fee. I canceled on the first day (they service was worthless, did not provide the information they claimed they would) but I ended up being charged $19.99 + $2.95. When I called the company, they said I should go back and read the website more carefully. This company is dishonest, using false and misleading advertising and taking advantage of people. I look forward to the reading about the lawsuit in the newspaper when either the government or someone else sues them.Desired Settlement: Full refund and a stop to dishonest advertising and billing practices.

Response:

We have reviewed your account and found that on 7/18/2015 instead of purchasing a single Background Report at $39.95 you chose to receive a Background Report at a discounted price of $19.95. The reason this product is discounted is because it comes with a three day trial membership. If cancelled within three days you will be billed $2.95 for the trial. If the trial is allowed to renew it would have renewed at $29.95 per month for the membership. Your original purchase of $19.95 is not affected. We received your cancellation online on 7/18/2015, within the three day trial period, therefore you were billed $2.95 for the trial on the fourth day. Again, the cancellation does not negate your initial purchase of $19.95 for the Background Report.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:Your policies are intentionally misleading. You know people will be confused and you plan that they will not fight back. I talked with my credit card company and they said they get complaints about your business all the time. Face it, you are scamming people.

Review: I had contacted Peoplefinders.com two times by phone previously on September 23 and 24, 2015 to get my personal information removed from their directory site. There is no option on the site itself to remove personal information including name, addresses, age information, etc. I was told by the representative on the phone both times that they would email their IT Department and have them remove my information. They said it would take 7-10 days. That time has passed and my personal information still has not been removed. Other Directory sites on the internet allow this information to be removed quickly, make it easy to do so on the web site itself, and/or contact them to have your personal information removed during the phone call. One does not have to wait up to 10 days. Peoplefinders.com makes it difficult to have the information removed. (Less)Desired Settlement: I would like Peoplefinders.com to remove all personal information found on their site for James E. Calligeros including addresses, phone numbers, age and age ranges, etc.The specific URL I found on their site was:[redacted] would like the above URL removed along with any other URL's on their site with my name on it in any other form (i.e. [redacted]).

Business

Response:

We have reviewed our files and found that your Property Directory listing was removed on 10/1/2015. Reviewing that page today we do not see the listing. We do see another listing was brought to our attention in the People Directory and reported by a representative to the IT department on 10/8/2015. Please allow a few more business days for them to remove this additional listing. We want to make sure you are aware that anytime you publicly report your information to companies and organizations, this information may be updated in public record databases and therefore will return results when doing a search for public record files. If you see your name appear on our site again you will need to notify us so we can remove it.

I am rejecting this response because: HelloAs we discussed this past Friday, please reopen my Complaint #[redacted] submitted on 10/8/2015 11:07:18 AM against Peoplefinders.com.As I mentioned over the phone, the directory listing I filed the complaint over had still not been removed as I had requested almost a month ago. I was told at that time that it would take 7-10 days. While a I believe the person who I am in contact with at Peoplefinders.com is trying to honor my request, the information still had not been removed as of Friday afternoon. I was told by that Peoplefinder's representative to give it a little more time and that their IT department was now actually working on my request. As soon as the requested directory information is removed, I will then close my complaint as resolved. This should occur some time this upcoming week. Again, please reopen my Complaint until this matter actually has been resolved. Should you require anymore information, you can contact me at [redacted].Thanks Again, [redacted]

Response:I accept the business response. Sarah over at PeopelFinders cleared everything up, it took a while, but it all got worked out. Thank you for your assistance and I am satisfied and the complaint is resolved

Review: I used Peoplefinders.com on February 1, 2014 to find a phone number for 2 different people. I feel that the charges on 2/1/14 are appropriate and totaled under $4.00. However, I did not examine my Discover card closely enough in February and there was a charge of $24.95 from peoplefinders that I did not find until just today. Today, March 13th is when I discovered a March 8th charge for 24.95. I called the company and the man was EXTREMELY RUDE and refused to help "you said you didn't, we say you did." This was regarding the automatic deductions they said I signed up for. I did NOT. When I spoke with Discover just now, they not only found the peoplefinders.com charges, BUT also found 2 other charges from "PF" services (had the same phone number as peoplefinders.com.)So...I got charged $24.95 TWICE PER MONTH since February. Discover is currently investigating these charges as fraudulent.Desired Settlement: I would like to be reimbursed $99.80.

Business

Response:

Our records show at the time of purchase you chose to receive a discounted price ($0.95) for signing up for a 3 day free trial to our 3-in-1 Membership instead of the full price ($1.95) for one report. This membership allowed you to receive an unlimited number of:

•People Searches – Get the facts you need to find anyone, anywhere

•Email Searches – Obtain email addresses, or learn about the owner of any address

•Social Profile Searches – See updates on all of your friend’s social profiles in one spot

•Marriage Searches – Find out if a man or woman has ever been married

•Divorce Searches – Check the divorce status of any man or woman

•Property Searches – Learn about any piece of property, including the current owner and value

You had the option to cancel this membership trial at anytime via your account manager on the website, via email, or via phone.

We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this trial. The 3 day trial has ended; therefore, you were billed $24.95 on the fourth day, and for every month thereafter.

The charge for $24.99 is for our PeopleFinders Rewards program. This allows you to get discounts on the different reports offered on our website. You signed up for this program by clicking "Yes, sign me up for PeopleFinders Rewards" instead of declining the offer by clicking the "No don't sign me up" option. We did not receive notification that you wished to cancel this within your 7 day trial period, therefore you were billed $24.99.

Your PeopleFinders Membership was used by running People Searches on two separate individuals, both of which would normally cost $1.95 each. In addition, a discounted background check was purchased at $1 instead of the full price of $49.95 by utilizing the PeopleFinders Rewards program.

Per your request over the phone on 3/13/2014 we cancelled your membership. Rather than requesting refunds from us we received notice of a dispute through your Discover Card today (3/18/2014) . Because the dispute process has already been started, you will need to follow Discover's policies regarding these charges.

Business

Response:

If your intention was to run only two searches then you had in fact selected the wrong product. The trial membership option on our site ($0.95) is for customers who would like to run unlimited searches and as stated online requires a cancellation within three days if you do not wish to continue. As we stated before these charges were under dispute through your credit card company. We received notice of this dispute on 3/18/2014. Our records show on 3/20/2014 we received a response from them and they agreed to allow us to issue two refunds of $24.99. Any other charges on this account are your responsibility. Because of the dispute you will need to follow Discover's policies regarding the other membership fees.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:

My intention was, indeed, to run

only two searches and feel I was tricked into selecting the “wrong product.” I feel

that Peoplefinders.com was, to be kind, deceptive in their presentation of the

“trial membership.” Given the fact that deception is one thing…out and out

fraud seems like another. I label it this way because I was charged not only by

Peoplefinders.com, BUT ALSO by PF – both the same phone number – the same

company. DOUBLE charged per month! How is that explained?

It’s interesting that Discover

“allowed” Peoplefinders.com to issue two refunds (should have been FOUR!!). I

find it amusing that there is an implication that “because of the dispute” (because

I involved Discover), that I need to “follow their policies.” It makes it sound

like I did not contact Peoplefinders.com first. I need to be clear that I did and

was greeted with an incredibly rude representative. He stated, in essence, “you

say you didn’t, we say you did…we’re done here.” PERIOD. This, along with an

attitude of disgust with every syllable. Obviously not intending to listen, or

even try to compromise.

While the money lost is an issue,

the tactics of this company are vastly more disturbing. I’m sure I will not see

another penny from Peoplefinders.com, but feel satisfied to have my say on

record. I have never registered such a complaint, but feel that this is totally

justified!!

Thanks Revdex.com!!!

Sincerely,
