Peoplefinders.com Reviews (932)

Review: Peoplefinders did an unauthorized debit after receiving my account information for a $.95 purchase. They indicate they gave themselves premission to debit my account in their "agreement" AND that I should have cancelled the initial transaction. My initial transaction was "changed" by them, from a $.95 cent transaction to a $3.95 transaction(that they said I should have cancelled on the website) then changed to a plan with a monthly transaction charge of $24.95. I paid for and used the $.95 purchase. I used the initial purchase...why would I need to cancel it? And there is in their agreement, a $2.95 cancellation fee. (?) Peoplefinder representatives indicate that "it's in our agreement so we can do it." And this is my major complaint. 1. Consumers extend a high degree of trust to merchants to protect the card information that is given to them. 2. Consumers want to be able to "authorize" purchases without the DANGER of "unauthorized" purchases. 3. If consumers don't have that, they will not purchase anything on-line. That is a detriment to all businesses seeking to do honest transactions on-line. ALL businesses and consumers need to be protected from those businesses who give themselves authoriztion to our accounts and refuse to fairly address the transactions through their customer service representatives. This company has HUNDREDS of compliants on the "Peoplefinders Review.com" website. This makes me wonder how the Revdex.com is giving them a B+ rating. So many people have compliants I wonder if you can give me information on a class-action suit. This company has failed to disclose their terms and policies on their pricing page. They have omitted a material condition on their pricing schedule. This is a gross violation of acceptable and custom business standards into deceptive advertising.Desired Settlement: Peoplefinders needs to reimburse me for damages incurred by the unauthorized use of my credit card. They need to fix their business model by addressing the deficences in their business practices to reduce the compliants against them. Be honest and fair in their business dealings. Change their pricing pages to reflect what they offer, prices, etc. NO "ordering a one-time use for $.95 and being billed for a monthly who-knows-what! Address other 100's of compliants...punative damages? no more room!

We have reviewed our files and our records show that an order for a search was conducted by this customer on 7/5/2015. At that time they had a choice to accept a special discounted price available with a monthly membership ($0.95) or the full price for the search without membership ($3.95). The membership option was affirmatively selected by them on 7/5/2015. That membership provided a three day trial to try our services. Our membership service provides unlimited searches and other features for a monthly fee. This is clearly and conspicuously disclosed on the initial order selection page. Then the consumer is provided with an entire section, directly below the total, outlining the terms of the membership. This clearly and conspicuously states that after the initial trial, unless the consumer cancels the service it will continue monthly and the card they provided will be charged until they indicate to cancel their membership to avoid future charges. The membership is mentioned no less than three times on three pages before the order is complete. If their intention was not to sign up for membership then they in fact selected the wrong product. Given that members can conduct unlimited searches for a monthly membership fee our terms do not allow for any refunds and simply allow members to cancel anytime to avoid future charges. For the period of their membership our customer service was available to take the cancellation at any time. They failed to contact us to cancel until a phone call to a representative on 7/13/2015, eight days after the three day trial into the membership was initiated. The charge of $24.95 is non-refundable per the Terms this customer agreed to upon purchase. In conclusion, this customer is responsible for the initial trial cost of $0.95 and one membership fee of $24.95, the account is closed and there will be no further automatic billing.

Response:

I reject the response from Peoplefinders because:They never addressed their unethical and unauthorized debit to my account, or their misleading and hidden “membership” charges, or their “bait” (with a $.95”one time search” that is not available except being) “switched” (to a three day trail that becomes a monthly charge if NOT CANCELLED) ALL of which are not disclosed on the pricing page.In their response, peoplefinder.com indicated, that I had two choices:1.) “to accept a special discount price available with a monthly membership for $.95 (No mention of a monthly charge of $24.95 again)2.) ..OR the full price for a search without member ship for $3.95”They said in their response that I selected the $.95 option. I am faxing a copy of my order form/pricing page with a $.95 charge. There is NO membership information after the total, as the response indicated there was.My pricing page does NOT indicated any information about a “membership” Or about additional pending monthly charges after seven days or my obligation to cancel a membership within three days of mu one-time purchase(?) Hundreds of customers have complained of the same hidden charges senerio. Finally, I quote ”Miss Manners” ([redacted]) in an interview for Smithsonian Magazine July-August 2011. In response to the questions: What etiquette breach do you most dislike? She said “the major etiquette problem in America…is blatant greet. It’s people who are scheming to get money and possessions from other people, and who believe that they are entitled to do so. The ancient practices of …(civility) are being undermined by this rampant greed.”I add my complaint to hundreds of others regarding peoplefinders.com (especially the hundreds of similar complaints on”peoplefinders.pissedconsumers.com”).Again, to resolve this complaint, peoplefinder.com needs to reimburse me (and others) for damages incurred by their unauthorized use of credit cards. They need to FIX their business model. They need to address the deficiencies in their business practices to reduce the complaints against them. They need to have a customer service department that is responsive to correcting the complaints against them. They need to MORE clearly and conspicuously correct their pricing page; They need to stop deceptive on-line marketing and “baiting”And finally, stop being a apart of the major etiquette problem in America today!

We feel we have already addressed these concerns. Please review the attached screenshots of your 7/5/2015 purchase of $0.95 (also available for your review at any time on PeopleFinders.com) of the product they selected. Note that, as we have already explained, users may choose the report one-time only for $3.95. The $0.95 product explains the $24.95 automatic billing on the initial product selection page and again on the purchase page. Additionally, please note that our you are contacting PeopleFinders.com and not PeopleFinder.com.

I went on this site trying to find information about an old friend. I could immediately see that this site was useless and immediately cancelled my membership exactly as directed. OF COURSE, another charge showed up and when I called to ask about it the VERY RUDE costumer service rep said it was some random cancellation fee. I tried to talk to a manager because the costumer service rep was so rude and she said there was no manager and it wouldn't make a difference to talk to anyone anyway. She finally let me leave a message and we will see if I get a call back. WHAT A JOKE!!! Do not waste your time or money!!!

Review: I signed up with peoplefinders for a 3 day trail was suppose to be charged .95 I went on to the site try ed to pull up several names and all the info was out dated and not one right phone number from a long list of numbers either it's not in order or wrong number. So I called the same day and cancelled but yet I was charged 2.95 plus /95 I would like a refund but they said no.. Please help [redacted]Desired Settlement: They said I could not have a refund.

Response:

We have reviewed your account and found that on 7/30/2015 instead of purchasing a single People Search Report at $1.95 you chose to recieve a People Search Report at a discounted price of $0.95. The reason this product is discounted is because it comes with a three day trial membership. If cancelled within three days you will be billed $2.95 for the trial. If the trial is allowed to renew it would have renewed at $24.95 per month for the membership. We received your cancellation over the phone on 7/30/2015, within the three day trial period, therefore you were billed $2.95 for the trial on the fourth day. The cancellation does not negate your initial purchase of $0.95 for the People Search Report. We are sorry that you did not receive the results you were hoping for. When you order a report, our system searches through billions of public records and collects every piece of relevant information. PeopleFinders pays for access to this data, so the charge is for us to conduct a search on your behalf, not to return a specific result. We are unable to provide a refund, but we will be happy to offer you a free search to help you find the facts you need. Please review the Terms of Use on PeopleFinders.com if you would like more information about refunds or other policies.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: your company did not and can not give me the correct info I looked up 3 people and got nowhere with your info and it should be made clearly that you will be charged. I think your company should be looked at by the authorities and or shut down and you all should be ashamed, I have since then looked at your reviews and I'm not the only one that feels this way.. You have info yes the wrong out dated info it's just a rip off I have contacted my bank to dispute the 2.95 charge I feel you need to give me my money back......

I signed up to use the service for a three day period. Advertising claims that it is a business you can trust to obtain information. I wanted basic nformation on someone. The information I received was erroneous. I canceled after the one search. I was charged 19.95.
to calim you will provide basic information ad yet the information listed is wrong. Bad customer serive as well as a un trustworthy site.
Scam.

Review: I contacted PeopleFinder by calling their [redacted] number provided on their website. Speaking to someone live was easy and fast. However, the three employees that answered the phone were extremely rude. The worst customer services I have ever received. The first person I spoke to, [redacted]. He answered the phone promptly. I told him I was having issues removing my personal information from their website. I told him I tried numerous internet browsers, computers and different phones. I was unsuccessful in removing my information when I followed the prompts on the PeopleFinder website. I explained to [redacted] that when I clicked their link to remove my information, it automatically takes me back to a general search bar on their site. I told [redacted], I didn't feel comfortable having my personal information exposed on the internet. No remorse. He just kept telling me to try a different computer because it was not a network issue from their end. I answered I had already tried different brands and types of computers, two types of phones and two different desktops along with three different web browsers. I asked if I gave him my information if they could on their end remove my personal information or at the least make it private. [redacted] said he was not able to with a very sarcastic tone. He added that there was nothing he could do. I then asked for a supervisor to which he replied there wasn't one available to speak to. He then repeated again there was nothing he could do and that "the issue was my problem to take care of". At this point of my frustration I hung up. I then called back and a female employee answered. I told her my story and issue. She was also rude. Very angry tone. She asked for my name, age and address. She said she could not find my information and then hung up on me without finishing the conversation. The third person I spoke to, [redacted] was very stern. She answered the phone with "hello". I explained my issue yet again, and [redacted] then gave more attitude, so I said, "Thanks, good bye.Desired Settlement: I would like this company to remove my personal information or at least explain to me other options that actually work so I can remove my information myself.

Response:

We apologize for the negative experience the caller says they had. We will remove their information. Please provide us with the direct URL that shows the results you want removed. Also the exact way you typed in your search. We ran a search using your name and came up with 80 different matches. Please help us pin point which one you are so that we remove the correct information.

Response:

To: Whom It May ConcernThank you for the quick reply. Here is the link to my information on the PeopleFinders website. [redacted]I got this link by searching my name on Google. It was the tenth link on Google at the bottom of the first page on my end. When I search directly on the PeopleFinders site, there are so many to sort through, I didn't know which one was mine. But the link I provided is definitely my personal information. When I click on "View Details" to the right of the page, it directly takes me back to the search on PeopleFinders. I am unable to view details, nor go through the removal of information when I follow the prompts.Thank you,[redacted]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Review: I was looking through my bank statement on 11-18-2015,when I noticed a charge for $19.95 to Peoplefinders. The only problem is that I never used the site and I have no intention of ever using the site.I don't even have an account with them.Desired Settlement: I want 2 things and 2 things only:1.A refund of the $19.95 that was taken from me without my consent.2.Any and all information they have about me purged from the site.

Consumer

Response:

Since the business has refunded my money,as they agreed to,I would like to drop complaint #[redacted].

Review: I did one search for a phone number and they took my credit card number and charged me 24.95 a month with out my consent for services that were never explained nor clearly stated. They claim that in the fine print of their website it is stated. However upon further review , the language is opaque and one needs a magnifying glass to find it. Please think twice before giving your credit card to this company.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund, not the three months they offered.

Our records show this customer signed up with PeopleFinders on 9/9/2012 for a discounted rate of $0.95 that comes with a three day trial period. Customer agreed to the terms of use at the time of registration that is stated “Membership is FREE for 3 days, and then automatically billed $24.95 each month.” Our customer service was available to take his cancellation at any time via email, online or over the phone. We did not receive contact from the customer until 2/1/2014, 17 months after the membership was initiated. Per this phone conversation, they were granted refundsfor three months of service. On 2/3/2014 per their request a supervisor made an outbound call and agreed to refund three additional refunds of $24.95 each. In conclusion, this customer has received a total of six refunds at $24.95 each, the account is closed and there will be no further automatic billing.

Review: This site has been billing me for 4 months, I canceled right after signing up, they still billed me, I called again and was sent an email that it was canceled in Feb. I am billed again, they say now it's a different account, when I closed this account I ask that any and all accounts were closed, They are charging me 19.95 and won't refund itDesired Settlement: I want my 19.95 returned for the past 4 months when I first canceled

Business

Response:

We have reviewed the account associated with the information provided here and found that it has no recent activity. This account was closed online, however, recently on 2/24/2015. We found the account we believe you are referring to registered entirely separately using different information. At the time of purchase you chose to receive a discounted price for signing up for a 3 day trial to our Membership. You had the option to cancel this membership trial at anytime via your account manager on the website, via email, or via phone. We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this trial. The 3 day trial had ended; therefore, you were charged the membership fee on the fourth day, and for every month thereafter. We did not receive cancellation for this account until a phone call to a representative on 3/26/2015. Per this complaint, and as a onetime courtesy, we will refund one membership fee of $24.95 for the most current month of membership (3/22/2015).

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: I canceled that account within the 3 days, It made me call in and I couldn't do it online, and when I called in Feb. I ask if there were any other accounts and told I did not. I have called several time and even ask to speak to a supervisor and there has not been any response. This company seems to lose calls and cancelations, I think if they were to look at the account they would see it was not used but the one time, it did not give me the information I needed, I contacted them and they still keep billing. I want my money back from all the bills

Business

Response:

It is the user's responsibility to keep track of any separate registration information they enter on our self-service site. There is no way for our system to recognize separate registrations especially when the customer uses completely different information seven years apart. Again your account is closed, there will be no further automatic billing and we will grant one refund for the most current month of membership (charged on 3/22/2015) as a courtesy. We believe this is fair as this also accounts for all charges that took place after your mistaken cancelation of your old account on 2/24/2015. There are no further courtesy refunds available to you.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: The girl I spoke to told me there were no other accounts, I ask and she told me.

Review: Used People Finders in December 2013 to search a number that had been calling me, and was to be charged a one time fee of $0.99 for the search. Have now noticed that People Finders has been charging me $24.95 every month since 01/20/14, which totals $349.30 in false charges. The company refuses to return or refund any of the charges. I know I did not agree to any long term agreement to pay monthly because I very seldom have a use for searching names or phone numbers. This is true fraud and the company should have criminal charges brought against them and banned from doing anymore business.Desired Settlement: People Finders to refund/return me the total $349.30 from the $24.95 they have been charging me every month since 1/20/14 that was not authorized.

Business

Response:

The membership did not begin in 2014. It began on 01/17/2015 when the customer purchased a Background Report. At that time, they signed up for a monthly membership. They selected that they agreed to the Terms of Use of the product. We will issue a refund on the 3 most current months charges. We have also canceled the membership, there will be no further billings.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: What People Finders has told you is untrue. I have bank records that show peoplefinders.com has been charging me $24.95 every month since January 20, 2014 which can be seen in the copy of these charges I have attached. As I stated in my complaint, People Finders started charging me $24.95 every month after I had agreed to pay a one time charge of $0.99 in December of 2014 to look up a phone number that had been calling me.People Finders sent me an email today 02/29/16 saying they are refunding the last charge of $24.95 that was charged this month, and nothing else about refunding any other charges.

Consumer

Response:

There were no charges I did not agree to during 2014. The problem of unauthorized charges from People Finders all started the next month after I agreed to pay $0.99 for a one time phone number search during December 2014. All the unauthorized charges of $24.95 started the very next month in January 2015 and have continued every month from that date in January 2015 to this day. I want People Finders to return all of the unauthorized charges of $24.95 per month they have charged me for the past 13 months because I I only agreed to pay the one time charge of $0.99 and nothing more, and I never agreed to pay any monthly payments.

Business

Response:

The customer made a purchase on 1/13/15, this is when they selected a Background Report that comes with a membership. They were billed the monthly membership, which can be canceled on line, via email or by calling customer care. We have issued a total of 5 months of refunds to the customer. There will be no further refunds Per the Terms of Use that the customer agreed to during the check out process.

Review: I went on web site by mistake. I was looking for a local phone number and thought I was on dex. That was a big mistake. I guess I was having senior computer moment. I ended on this website. I choose free trial 0.95 but it went to options I could mot understand. They were clear you 3 days to cancel automatic renewal but I didn't realized I signed up for it.To make matters worse it didn't even give me right number. I noticed my bank state ment that I was billed 24.95 . So I called to cancel they informed me I needed to cancel within 3 days so they would cancel further charges but there would be no refund.Desired Settlement: I would like the business to be contacted about complaint using their website. It is set up to confuse the consumer to purchase a product they do not want. When you shave select free trial that is what you want. They set it up for you to agree to service you do not you want by confusing you by options that you ignore to get what you do want. I made the stupid mistake but since they gave me incorrect phone numbers I should get my 24.95 back. Websites are made to confuse people

Business

Response:

The website states clearly the two options that we have for the product. The customer states in their complaint that they in fact chose the $0.95 that comes with a trial and that they were to cancel within 3 days. As the Terms of Use state the membership is not refundable, however we did cancel any further billings. We provide public record data, we state that the information may not be 100% accurate and it is provided As-Is. We do not give refunds for the data.

Review: In January, I looked for a service that would find an address for me. When I found Peoplefinders I willing paid $.99 that allowed me access to one search. I never knowingly authorized Peoplefinders to establish an account for me and charge me a subscription fee. When I received my February Credit Card Bill there were 2 charges from them - CFK*Peoplefinders $24.95 and CFK*PF Rewards $24.99. I called their offices and cancelled the account that they set up for me but they would not reverse the charges. After the fact I found I wasn't alone. They appeared to SCAM a number of others. Please see what you can do to have them reverse some or all of the charges and what can be done to stop them from doing this to others.Desired Settlement: Ideally I would like the $24.95 and the $24.99 credited back to my account or a check mailed to me. If I can't have the entire amount credited back, I would appreciate what ever you can do.

Business

Response:

On our Website the customer has the option to purchase a People Report for $0.95 with a membership. Or they may select the product alone with out a membership for a slightly higher price. This customer chose to pay the discounted price of $0.95 that comes with the membership. They are shown before check out that they are also getting a membership. Since they did not cancel their membership within the first 3 days, they were billed the monthly fee. The representative they spoke with was correct in saying that per the Terms of Use the product is not refundable.

Review: I contacted Peoplefinder November or Decemeber 2015 via telephone to request that they remove my personal information from their website.

I had googled my name and found that Peoplefinder had my complete address listed on their website. I HAVE NEVER CONSENTED TO HAVING MY INFORMATION PUBLISHED ONLINE.

I followed the online Peoplefinder opt out instructions to have the listing removed; however, the website's opt out links never leadS you to an official opt out option. This is a major problem! I, then, called the customer service number listed on the website and spoke with an agent to have my information removed.

I told the Peoplefinder agent that I need all of my information removed immediately. I am a victim of stalking and my safety is currently compromised. My stalker has gotten my contact information from online sources and I am terrified that he will see my address, posted WITHOUT MY CONSENT on Peoplefinder's website.

The agent confirmed to me that she had removed my listing.

Today, 02/13/16 I find that my listing is still on the Peoplefinder website and my current address is still available to the public. I fear for my safety and have Peoplefinder to blame for this.

I need my information removed NOW. I never once consented to having my address and contact information published online. This is a violation of my rights to privacy and should be punishable under law. My safety is endangered and my address listing, posted without my consent, could enable my stalker to realize actions that will jeopardize safety and life.

Please have all of my personal information removed now, as Peoplefinder is clearly fradulent/ incompetent and has blatant disregards for the rights to privacy and life of others.

Please find attached a screenshot of the referenced listing, available at [redacted]Desired Settlement: REMOVE ALL OF MY PERSONAL INFORMATION NOW. My personal contact information is listed at the following link: [redacted]

Review: I found this site by searching for FREE people finder search. I saw their claim to find information on the person I was searching so I went ahead with purchasing the info. Once payment was accepted and I actually viewed the info, it was clear that the info they said they had they did not.

In addition they have charged my credit card multiple times.

They are running a switch and bait method and they do not have the information they say they do. Which is fine, but don't take my money.

I contacted their customer service and representative told me that since I didn't cancel within the 3 days there was nothing she could do. Please also note the dates of the transactions. 1/28 was the first one, then 3 days later a much larger amount.

This is a consumer scam.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund for the below amounts.

Review: I tried to get a 24 hour membership and they charged me $19.95 so I contacted customer service to ask the representative to refund the charges, she said all they could do is remove my payment method so I didn't get charged next month. The services are misleading and false because they do not offer any other services like it says in their advertisement until after you pay then it states you must UPGRADE and purchase background checks, criminal records or public records! So I am requesting my money be refunded in FULL. My membership service was only 15 minutes, and I cancelled online and by phone when I realized PeopleFinders is just a fancy web based white pages that steals money. Here is what their ad says after you log in: However, they send you to another third party site:Memberships are available in 24 hour and 30 day increments. You may upgrade your Membership at any time, or purchase one of our other great products like Comprehensive Background Checks, Reverse Phone Lookups, Criminal Records and Social Network Searches!Desired Settlement: $19.95

Business

Response:

PeopleFinders.com does not offer a 24 hour membership. Our records show the product this customer selected was a $19.95 Comprehensive Background Report plus 3 Day Background Check Membership Trial. A checkbox was also affirmatively selected during checkout to have a PDF version of the report emailed to the customer for an additional $2.50. At the time of purchase the customer chose to receive a discounted price for the service they selected. Normally Background Checks on PeopleFinders.com are $29.95. They received a $10.00 discount because they signed up for the 3 day trial to our membership. The trial refers to the Membership only. They have cancelled within the 3 day trial period and therefore will not be billed the membership fee $24.95. The original purchase of $19.95 is not affected.

As stated in our Terms of Use, we do not offer refunds for the product they ordered. While we are unable to offer them a refund, we would like to provide them with a free courtesy search. The free courtesy search will remain on their account until it is used. They may elect to have that exchange search ran at any time. Just call our Customer Care and a representative will run the search for them, free of charge.

Review: After notifying them of my Statutory Protection Status, they removed info from their database, but did not remove cached reference.

Google made it very clear that only the WEBMASTER (peoplefinders.com) has the authority to remove cached references. Though they removed my information from their database, they failed to remove the following cached reference (note that both of my names ([redacted] and [redacted] are referenced as being related to my ex-husband's new wife (WHOM I HAVE NEVER EVEN MET).

Desired Settlement: Several other people-search websites have immediately removed the cached references once I notified them of my Statutory Protected Status with the [redacted] government. Therefore, I expect peoplefinders.com to immediately remove this cached reference. I have no idea how often Google updates removal requests (1 year, 5 years, etc.?); therefore, they must act immediately to protect my Statutory status.

Review: Website promised current phone number. Charged me even though they only provided information I already had (i.e.address) and did not provide phone #.

Website promised phone number on person I was looking for. When I got the emailed report it only had the addresses, the most current one being the one I used to look him up on their website. Even though they didn't produce phone number promised on website they were happy to charge me.Desired Settlement: Refund of $2.94 to my credit card.

Consumer's Final Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)

If the company is not able to provide the basic information that their website claims (i.e. address and phone number) then they shouldn't charge for it.

Business' Final Response

Our records show that we have provided the full name, AKAs, date of birth, sixteen addresses going back 40 years, and twenty five possible relatives for the individual searched. This is available to you for 90 days in the 'My Reports' section of your account. Per our terms you agreed to the charge will not be refunded.

Review: Was charged a total of $49.90 for services I did not request. Was sent a receipt via email for $0.95 for my 3 day pass. Never sent receipt for $24.95

On 5/5/2013, the daughter of a restaurant employee whom we have come to care for dearly died. It was sudden and unexpected. Myself and other patrons wanted to contact her and send flowers. I could not find her information on the internet. We had spoken previously and the phone I used was traded in, and I neglected to keep the phone numbers. Her information was not public on the internet. One search engine I used directed me to Peoplefinders.com. This took place on the evening of 5/5/2013. I chose the least expensive option (I thought) at the time, $1.95 for a 3 day pass. All I needed was one number and address. The charge confirmation gave me some sort of discount and was a net of $0.95. I thought that was the end of it.

On June 15 I received my credit card statement and saw the charge of $24.95. I tried calling Peoplefinders.com and could not reach a human being on the phone. I never signed up for this endless subscription (no end date) at a rate of

$24.95! And I was never notified of the charges by Peoplefinders.com. In fact they are a rare breed of internet based companies, no emails to me advertising anything, I guess they have come to realize this would alert consumers to the issue.

Upon cancelling my membership via the internet, upon clicking on the cancel option I am sent a message that "as a courtesy" I am being credited back the most recent charge of $24.95. Who does that? I imagine it is because they receive a v3ery large volume of complaints and demands for refunds. I think these predatory practices should be against the law. Silently charging consumer's credit cards each month for a service they never asked for. After researching the site for some time on June 15, it is not in bold print anywhere, and not clearly noticed, in fact IT IS IN FADED PRINT, that if you do not contact Peoplefinders back after 3 days they will charge you for the month. Again I think their practices are predatory and by viewing the number of complaints online I can see they have made a lot of money using these tactics, I doubt anyone is KNOWINGLY paying Peoplefinders.com $24.95 per month.

I have sent the company several emails, only to get automated responses, no one's name, to say "we have addressed this matter." I have also filed a complaint with the office of the Pennsylvania Attorney General.

One last comment, I did receive a receipt for $0.95 via email from Peoplefinders.com. I never received another email after that, never received a receipt for $24.95. This would have alerted me. These practices I am sure are not illegal, but should be. They are in the very least deceptive.

Desired Settlement: $49.90

And the assurance that my "subscription" which I never requested has been cancelled. Assurance too that my credit card information is purged from their database.

Consumer's Final Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)

If Peoplefinders.com has the ability to send a receipt for $0.95 for a 3 day search, then why can't they send an email or text each month for $24.95 to NOTIFY consumers that their credit card is being charged?

Yesterday I was able to see a total of $49.90 refunded to my credit card. I am satisfied with the refund.

I do not understand why now, via Peoplefinders response here, I am being advised that I am being charged $1.95, $0.95 and $0.99 when the only RECEIPT emailed to me was for $0.95. What are these other charges for?

Peoplefinders did send me several emails but I was never advised that BOTH fees of $24.95 would be refunded, for a total of $49.90. I was told that one fee would be refunded for $24.95. No one at any time indicated that both fees would be refunded.

I think billing someone's credit card without notifying them should be illegal. If this company's billing system can generate a receipt for 95 CENTS then surely it can generate one for $24.95.

Each month billing someone's credit card without an alert via email or text, without receipt of any kind, from a company, in my opinion is bad business and deceptive.

In conclusion, I want assurance that I will not be billed again by this company directly or through a collection agency on their behalf. I am satisfied with the refund totaling $49.90. I will write to my state representatives about changing the law concerning billing consumers without reminders or alerts for each transaction.

Business' Final Response

The consumer is provided with an entire page outlining the terms of the membership which clearly and conspicuously states that after the initial trial, unless the consumer cancels the service the service will continue monthly and the card they provided will be charged until they tell us to cancel their membership to avoid future charges. The membership is mentioned no less than three times on three pages before the order is complete. When shopping online, it is the consumer's responsibility to read and understand what they are purchasing. Your account with PeopleFinders.com is closed and there will be no further automatic billing.

Review: You have charged my credit card unauthorized that is shown on my bank statements. The amount is $24.95 pm. I demand a full refund.

Review: In August of 2012, I went to the website PeopleFinders.com and performed a search for a particular individual, who had not been paying his child support for my granddaughter. When I came to the point of choosing a ONE TIME search charge or the 7 DAY TRIAL, I chose the ONE TIME search and declined the membership. Unfortunately, I had not looked over my credit card statements until just a few days ago, when I kept finding a charge for $24.99 each month for several years (since 2012). When I investigated into it, I found it was PeopleFinders charging me for a membership...THAT I DID NOT AGREE TO JOIN. In 3 years, I had done 3 searches. Why would I join a membership indefinitely to do THREE SEARCHES? When I called them on July 28, 2015, they refused to send me a copy of the contract I supposedly signed electronically, stating it was a "self-serve" site. They refuse to deal with my problem at all.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of $899.64, which they took from my credit cards without my authorization.

Response:

The charge of $24.99 is for PeopleFinders Rewards program. The PeopleFinders Rewards program allows you to receive discounted prices on the many of the reports offered on our website. This extra service is presented to our customers through a full-page offer directly after checkout. Users may either accept or decline the offer. PeopleFinders Rewards members also have access to-* Free self-background checks every month* Free family safety alerts show registered sex offenders in your neighborhoodThis allows you to get discounts on the different reports offered on our website. We did not receive notification that you wished to cancel this within your 7 day trial period, therefore you were billed $24.99. Per your online request on 7/22/2015, and as a onetime courtesy, have refunded one charge of $24.99 for the most current month of membership. There are no further refunds available.

Review: Today we were ripped off by PeopleFinders.com. We hope you are proud of the business you conduct. As they know, the business is unfair and deceptive. Today we wanted to perform a simple background check, however were tricked into paying for a monthly people search membership and then attempted to be up-charged for a 144 dollar fee for performing the original background check we were inquiring. This is fruition, deception, unfair, and up-charging. We did attempt to speak with a representative on the phone, but they stated that the "144 dollar membership was all that was being offered at this time". So, there are two parts of the ripoff; 1) trick the consumer into thinking the 30 day membership allows for background search (which is does not), and then advertising a one time cost for background checks of anywhere from 20 to 40 dollars, but then at the time of payment only offering a reoccurring membership with a lofty 144 dollar price tag. We will be asking the State of Oklahoma to investigate this practice taking place with your company. We are also demanding a full refund of 24.95 to our Bank of Oklahoma account.Desired Settlement: Refund me, and others you have deceived. In addition stop using this deceptive business practice. It is unnecessary and criminal. We will be suing to ensure this happens.

Response:

Our records show this customer made a purchase on 2/4/2014 for $24.95. The product selected was an Email Membership for 30 days. We received a phone call from this customer on 2/4/2014 and we advised background checks were not included in the membership he selected. An hour later we responded to an email from the customer, we advised him that if his intention was to run background checks, he chose the wrong product and to call in so we can assist him with an exchange to receive the membership he wanted . The customer never called back for assistance.

Customer mention in this letter he was looking for a yearly membership of $144.00. The product we offer at this price is a yearly Unlimited Background Check Membership. As stated in our Terms of Use all charges are final. We have, however, exchanged the month of email membership on his account for three months of unlimited background checks. He may login and use this membership at any time until it expires on 6/14/2014.
