POWERHOME SOLAR Reviews (%countItem)

I purchased these solar panels in March 2018 and they were turned on in July 2018. They were not properly installed, which in turn caused a leak in my brand new home. Once this was fixed, a hurricane hit our area and four of them were blown off. When I purchased these new solar panels I was told that they would be able to sustain very strong winds. But this was not the case since four of them blew off my roof in the hurricane. This also caused me to need a new roof on my home that was built in 2017. Then I filed an insurance claim with my insurance company to take care of the process and get the solar panels repaired or replaced in September 2018. One I received the money from my insurance company which was beginning of Nov 2018. I then paid power home and solar 1/2 of the amount which was $7500 before the work even began. They didn't it even begin work on my roof until middle of Jan. This was after numerous phones calls to them for me get on the schedule and have someone come to my home. I never received a phone call back when I was promised with a schedule date . This went on for weeks! When we inspected the solar panels after the hurricane with a rep from the company along with the insurance rep it was determined that 6 solar panels needed to be replaced. Four of those blew off in the storm and 2 remained on the roof were damaged per the rep from Power Home and Solar . One of them that remained on the roof had a giant scratch on it and it was determined that it needed to be replaced. Once all the work was finally completed in February 2019 it was discovered that the panel with the scratch on it is still on my roof. After numerous phone calls from them to the power home solar company they have still not scheduled me to replace the one remaining panel . In then I have told them I will not pay them the remaining money I owe them until the job is complete. This is been going on since September and now I have been told that they do not know when they will schedule me replace the panel that is scratched. They claim that they have to fix other peoples panels that are not working properly and that since mine are working properly we are not a priority. We have paid this company over $35,000 and still do not have all the solar panels up correctly. I also do not believe that six solar panels were replaced. When I asked for proof that six were ordered brand new they were unable to give this to me stating that they do not have purchase orders from their warehouse. This complaint is for the North Carolina location

Thank you for this review. We are happy we exceeded you expectations. Welcome to the POWERHOME family. Enjoy your new solar panels.

The product when sold to us was to be completed in 90 days. This was in July 2018. There has been no installation. We were asked to have a structural engineer assess building which was done and suggested repairs made per our cost. Only acknowledgment from company was asking us to sign waiver releasing them from all liability even those outside the repairs. Our lawyer advised us to not sign document as written as it was too broad. This was end December. Because of our contact to them, we found that project had been canceled. They stated we canceled which we did not. Customer support has been nonexistent. We believe this company is highly untrustworthy and so reached out to you.

We were not able to install solar panels on barn roof due to Safety reasons. With no waiver signed, We did not want to ourselves or *** in danger.

Customer Response • Mar 06, 2019

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
This is unacceptable because we had hired a structural engineer to assess and recommend any changes which were done and submitted to Powerhome with engineer approval.
Structure was deemed secure for solar installation.
That aside, there is no excuse for extremely poor customer service. There was no communication unless initiated by us.

POWERHOME SOLAR Response • Mar 07, 2019

The roof presented a challenge for us. With no waiver signed we were not able to proceed forward with the installation.

PowerHome Solar North Carolina unresponsive / delays repair warranty work on 6 month old SolarEdge HD-Wave inverter - defective system - buyer beware!
20Kw solar system by PowerHome Solar LLC North Carolina was energized June 2018. SolarEdge HD-Wave inverter (exterior installation) stopped working sometime in early January 2019 (we cannot confirm exact date of failure because PowerHome was not remotely monitoring the inverter/system as promised during sales pitch by owner/partner Brandon Goodnight).

Homeowners need to manually check their system daily if they have a system installed by PowerHome Solar LLC. You will not be notified by PowerHome Solar if your system fails or is not producing power. Homeowners are on their own once the system is installed, once PowerHome Solar has received their final loan dispersement. Disregard the prompt customer service you are promised during the sales pitch.

On January 16, 2019 we just happened to notice our SolarEdge Inverter was not working and notified PowerHome Solar (Michigan home office). After speaking with several people, a service ticket was filed dated January 16, 2019. On January 22, 2019 we followed up with a call to PowerHome Solar Michigan home office and were then told the service call could take up to 14 days from date service ticket was filed (sometime between January 16th and January 30th). We were told during that third phone call we would be contacted by the North Carolina Field Project District Manager, but they would not give us his name. We were told this gentleman would call us before January 30th to schedule a service visit.

On January 30th, 14 days after the service ticket filing, we called back the PowerHome Solar Michigan home office (spoke with Akela) and she tried to reach the North Carolina Field Project District Manager while we were on hold. He could not be reached, so Akela left him a voicemail and explained he should call us back. She politely hung up the phone call by wishing us "good luck". Thursday, January 31, 2019 we finally received a service call (the first called returned without our constant follow up) from Kevin S, the North Carolina Field Project District Manager. We finally scheduled a service visit for Wednesday, February 6, 2019 ( 22 days after filing original service ticket). All of our solar equipment is on the exterior of our house, under a porch roof so Kevin S can visit/monitor/service and have access to our system at any time. Thankfully we do not have to take a day off from work to meet PowerHome Solar. We received a text message from Kevin S later that day (February 6th) stating the inverter needs to be replaced. Mr. Kevin S stated he would try to expedite the inverter replacement.

We followed up a week later February 14th with the Michigan home office, spoke with Keontaye, and discovered they were unaware of the status of the service claim. We had to notify the PowerHome Solar Michigan home office (the only phone number you can call for service) and update them about the faulty inverter. PowerHome Solar was unaware of the service status, had no idea if the replacement inverter was received from SolarEdge (the manufacturer), or if it was even ordered. Keontaye noted the updates and revelations on the service claim and tried to contact Kevin S North Carolina Field Project District Manager and left him another voicemail asking him to call the home office for status update. We heard nothing back. . .

We followed up again the next week on February 20, 2019 and spoke with Tia at the PowerHome Solar Michigan home office. Tia did not have any information except for what we gave Kenotaye the week prior. Tia put us on hold and tried to reach Kevin S North Carolina Field Project District Manager and left him another voicemail. We were told Tia would call us with an update.

Tia followed up the next afternoon, Thursday, February 21 and left us a voicemail stating she contacted Kevin S in North Carolina and stated he will "get back to us, be on the look out for his call."

We are writing this Revdex.com complaint Saturday, February 23, 2019.

Desired Outcome

We are asking PowerHome Solar LLC North Carolina, and their parent company PowerHome Solar Michigan to service the SolarEdge solar system they installed (only 8 months ago) in a timely manner, not waste homeowners time, and follow up with reasonable customer service. Our home has been without a fully functioning solar system at the time of this complaint (February 23, 2019) for at least 40 days. It is clear service to our solar system is not a priority for PowerHome Solar LLC North Carolina. Due to all of the rain we have had in February, we know for a fact PowerHome Solar LLC North Carolina in not too busy with new installations. They were delayed in April/May 2018 on our installation. Our point is this solar system is out of the weather and can be replaced day or weekend, without the homeowner present. There is simply no excuse for a repair taking more than 40 days to complete. PowerHome Solar LLC North Carolina is either understaffed in the service/repair department, unorganized, or has incompetent leadership and individuals working for them, or all the above. Furthermore, their field technicians cannot be reached and do not report back to the Michigan home office. We intend to express our complaints on every social media forum related to PowerHome Solar LLC North Carolina and Michigan and notify consumers of the poor service we have received. Homeowners in North Carolina considering PowerHome Solar LLC should look elsewhere. Do you want to be the fool, 8 months after a $50-60K installation, begging PowerHome Solar LLC North Carolina to return your phone calls and stand behind their product?

Mr. we apologize for the delay in getting your inverter replaced. We have spoken with you this morning, and we *** be getting that service done. Thank you for being a POWERHOME customer.

Where to begin! Can not tell you how extremely disappointed I am in my experience with this company. I literally feel like I have been robbed of $32,000 with little to no support from the service team. When I was sold this product back in April/May 2018 the sales team made it fairly clear that if I purchased these panels that I would almost be guaranteed the federal and state rebates and based on the 24 panels I purchased that it would offset most if not all of my current energy consumption. After considerable thought I decided to purchase the panels and decided to use my own financing as I got a better rate than the one that the sales team had offered. In early August I received the welcome email and design review which went somewhat smoothly with the exception of the anticipated cost that I noticed had ballooned to $45,000. I contacted PowerHome and they identified the error and corrected. A schedule was set for an early October install date and the crew that arrived were polite, knowledgeable, quick to install and cleaned up after themselves unfortunately this is where things went south in a hurry. These were ground mounts located roughly 50 to 75 yards from my home and required a ditch to run the line to the meter. (Inspection 1) The inspector passed the electrical connection but failed the overall because the ditch was covered up and they needed to verify how deep the line was buried. (Inspection 2) Failed because line was buried 4 inches instead of the recommended 12". (Inspection 3) Failed because the ground mount supports were not uncovered to show that they were encased in cement. (Inspection 4) Failed because the contractor failed to dig up all 4 supports to show they were encased in cement. (Inspection 5) Passed inspection however the gap between install (early October) to activation (February 13) was frustrating. During all of this contractors sent to my home, while always polite, lacked tools (borrowed mine twice) and to this date I still have the 4 holes that were dug not filled back in which range in average depth of 12"-20". The contractor promised to come back out the next day to fill in the holes. During this time I was contacting service to try to understand timelines and concerns I had along with the expense I had incurred since October. I had already purchased seed and straw when the first crew had covered up the trench and that had to be re-dug along with the expense I was paying for not only my current power bill which was supposed to be drastically reduced but also my loan installment that began on October 1. What I began to see was a theme that the field agents/contractors did not work closely with the service center or county inspector to determine root cause and fix. 4 months of failed inspections due to not reading the reports. I was promised by several service managers (Courtney F) that they would follow up and never did and only after reaching out to her manager (Joe C) did I get some restitution (they cut me a check for $600) to cover my loses). In the meantime my *** rebate request put me on a waiting list which expired at the end of each year, which was not even mentioned by the sales team. Get this if you install in 2018 and don't make the list you have to go back online to request a rebate and that's on a first come first serve basis. I logged on January 2nd at 9am and am now 232 on the waiting list this year with an expectation to not get this rebate. There are residential houses that will get this rebate and will have installed after my install date which PowerHome will tell you they have no control but they sure don't have any problems using that as a sales tool. Now fast forward to activation, *** came out and replaced the meter and no one from PowerHome contacted me to give me a heads up. Luckily I work from home and was able to allow *** to replace, if I wasn't home they would have canceled. I contacted Powerhome to ask what I needed to do and 24 hours later was given the all clear to turn my box on which I was instructed to do by ***. Received an email from *** which provides a dashboard of the energy output by the panels but does not show the output by each panel which is critical in understanding/validating if you are getting full output from each panel as the contract states. I contacted PowerHome on February 21 to request a different dashboard and was told that they don't control access and gave me the toll free number to ***. *** states that they only provide the dashboard application and that PowerHome can give a layout view that shows each panel output. When I called PowerHome back and got to the same agent he stated that he's not allowed to give additional detail around individual panel output and that they will notify me if a panel is not functioning properly. So let me get this straight, I'm sold on the fact that for the first 1 year the warranty on these panels guarantees 100% production and then scales back over the next 24 years
guarantee of 80% production through year 25 but the owner of the panels and the one who has $32,000 invested has no way of validating if they are working as designed and that I will be notified when and if they are not by a team that has shown nothing short of a failure to respond to me throughout this entire process is unacceptable. I went from thinking that I would be spending less on energy over the long haul to now being completely upside down and clueless on expected output and performance. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

The young crew worked quickly and efficiently. It was freezing but they kept at it until the job was done. They were professional and knowledgeable. They were careful to remove muddy boots when coming into our home. Thought they did a great job.

Power Home Solar was a fantastic company to work with. They were communicative, efficient and friendly. They worked within my schedule and worked with my quirky dog.

Hello *** thank you for your review, we are very appreciative of it! We are also glad that your dog approves of our team. All of our best to you in going solar!

The crew showed up on time and when it was 20 degrees outside. I was actuall u suprised they didn't reschedule for next week with better weather. They worked all day until the job was finished.
