THE OWNER OF THE COMPANY I WORK FOR RECIEVED A CALL TODAY FROM A WOMEN THAT IS FROM THIS COMPANY, RNN GROUP. SHE WANTED TO VERIFY MY EMPLOYMENT BY GIVING THE OWNER, TIM MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER AND BIRTHDATE. SHE HAD MY SOCIAL AND HAD MY BIRTHDAY ALONG WITH MY NAME. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THEY RECEIVED THIS INFORMATION BUT VERY SCARED AS TO HOW THEY KNEW MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER AND BIRTHDATE ALONG WITH WHERE I AM WORKING.

Desired Outcome

WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY AND HOW THEY HAVE MY INFORMATION AND WHAT THE REASON FOR THE CALL TO THE OWNER OF THE PLACE I WORK AT WAS FOR! THANK YOU!

RNN Group, Inc., is a third-party verifier of employment information. RNN Group, Inc., was hired and retained by its client to verify place of employment. You are encouraged to contact our executive team at *** to obtain further information regarding the underlying obligation. Again, RNN Group, Inc., is hired and retained by clients to verify employment information as set forth above.

As with the other complaints, this '3rd party' called with no explanation as to why they were calling, yet wanted employment verification with my SSN & birthdate. He would not answer any question I asked, so I hung up on him. However, when I tried calling back (both phone numbers for RNN), the 1st one, (***) was a recording stating to leave a 'message after the tone', but then just disconnected the call. The 2nd number, which is supposedly RNN's number from their 'website' @ (***), offers a 'dial by name directory' or '0' for operator; both are a recording, with the same attendant's name. If this is a legitimate business, then why does no one answer a phone or why can't you leave a message or why can they not tell you why they are contacting you; and at your place of employment. I looked up the first phone number and it shows as SCAM. Places like this should be put out of business. If they were legitimate, and explained why they were calling me at work, with precise answers to my questions, not vague 'scripted answers'; I would possibly have spoken further with them at that time.

Desired Outcome

No further contact by the busi I DO NOT WANT to be contacted again by this company or any of their 3rd party representatives; at my home or at my place of employment; either by phone, fax, email or US Postal mail.

Continuously calls my place of employment to verify employment with no valid reason to obtain this private information. I have requested many times for them to stop and they continue to call.

Desired Outcome

Stop calling my place of employment to get information that they have no business getting.

Calling my place of business asking them to verify last 4 of SSN and DOB
Calling my office asking front desk to verify my SSN and DOB. When I asked her who the request was from as I have not applied for any loans and do not have outstanding debt, I was told that they have to protect their clients and could not give me the requestor's information. I told her I wasn't comfortable giving them any info and she ended the call.

Desired Outcome

stop trying to scam people

RNN Group Response • Jul 18, 2018

It is not a scam. RNN Group, Inc., is a third-party verifier of employment information. RNN Group, Inc., was hired and retained by its client whose permissible purpose is an outstanding debt obligation owed to them. This obligation may be a judgment, student loan, outstanding collection for a debt, IRS, or other financial obligation. The consumer is encouraged to contact our executive team at*** to obtain further information regarding the underlying obligation. Again, RNN Group, Inc., is hired and retained by clients to verify employment information as set forth above.

RNN is calling my employer. I have no relationship with them. No one will answer the phone there.
RNN Group has been calling my employer asking to verify my social security #, my birth date and other information. I do not have any relationship with this company and there is no reason they should need information on me. Other complaints say there is a valid 3rd party who has hired them to collect information on me. When I called them, it always goes to voicemail, so I can't verify if this is true.

Desired Outcome

I want RNN group to cease and desist any communications with me or any of my past, current or future employers.

Calls my employer asking for employment verification
RNN Group has called my employer twice this week asking to verify employment. They are giving my employer the last 4 of my social and asking my employer to verify the rest of it. I don't have any judgments or student loan debt as they previously mention. When my employer refused to give them any information and told them to call me direct and ask me, they didn't even have my phone number and asked my employer for it. If this is a past debt, you should have my phone number. I haven't changed it in over 10 years. This is an invasion of privacy and harassment and in the state of *** if you are asked not to call me or my employer anymore and you refuse, it is harassment. Also, I've never received any correspondence in the mail about any past debt. You have to give legal notice by mail.

Desired Outcome

Stop calling my employer asking for personal and confidential information.

Potential Fraud / Scam - Attempt by Caller to Obtain SSN and DOB Info
Calls from *** 5/7/18 and 5/8/18 to our business. Caller uses guise of employment verification and/or debt collection and then asks us to provide past and current employee SSN and DOB to "verify identity". When asked for first/last name, the caller gets pushy/rude. When told they have to submit all requests in writing via fax, they disconnect the line.

Desired Outcome

Business needs to stop calling our company, obviously an attempt to gain personal information (SSN, DOB), etc. for fraud.

While RNN Group may be a contracted third-party verifier of employment for another entity - it is unlawful for RNN Group to request that our office provide them with personal identifying information on any person. Your caller ASKED OUR OPERATOR to provide them with the party's social security number and date of birth. Our policy for verification of employment was provided to the rep from RNN Group and they have not followed through. Seems a bit odd if you were legitimate and legitimately requiring an employment verification, you would follow the requirement for written request and you certainly WOULD NOT BE ASKING US TO GIVE YOU SOMEONE ELSES SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER AND/OR DATE OF BIRTH.

Called requesting verification information without identifying who they were calling for
Rep called and launched into a employment verification script without answering who they were calling for, other than 'financial institutions'. When they tried verifying the business address, they used a business address that has not been used for more than 9 years. Then wanted to know the current address, which I declined to share. A legit company wanting employment verification would not be using an old address. Any employment verification for anything 9 years old would be well out of reasonable date for contact. Would like to have the information they do have removed from their records, or an explanation who exactly they are verifying the employment for. If they cannot answer that, then they are just another scam company trolling for information for questionable purposes.

Desired Outcome

Would like all my information removed from their database, or an complete explanation of who is requesting this employment verification, especially considering how out of date the information was.

I already asked the caller what it was about and who they were representing, and never could get an answer. So now I should call them again so that I won't get an answer again? No passing *** buck, if you call and you are asked who you are calling for, you should be able to supply the information as you certainly asking for personal information.

This company is constantly calling my job asking to speak with my HR Dept. in order to conduct an employment verification why I do not know. They are very vague and refusing to give out any info. *** contacted me twice on 04/05/XX XXX-XXX-XXXXx504 stating that she cannot provide or does not know the name of the company who hired her. I did some research and it shows online that this could be and is a scam.

Desired Outcome

This company contacted my place of work and gave my social security number to our office secretary to try to verify my employment? When I got on the phone and tried asking what it was for, she refused to tell me anything. Just that it was trying to verify my employment. When I asked what my social security number had to do with that, she hung up on me. I've tried calling back, but she refuses to tell me what it is for. My social security number should NOT be used as an identifier, especially to just anyone that answers the office phone. I am not appreciative of this especially when they are unable to tell me what they need this information for.

Desired Outcome

No further contact by the busi I want them to cease contact with myself and especially my employer, especially when it doesn't seem like they have a legit reason to have any of my information.

RNN Group Response • Jan 12, 2018

We have received and reviewed your complaint we understand that your employer received a phone call for verification of employment, we do not ask for a social security number in our verifications we ask to confirm the last 4 of the social security number once we verify that this is the correct employer for the consumer to make sure we have the correct consumer. RNN's clients vary from direct lenders to the department of education with a permissible purpose such as a Judgment or delinquent student loan that allows them to contract our services to locate consumers with a past due obligation. In this case our client has a judgment and a permissible purpose to verify employment for this consumer.

Customer Response • Jan 12, 2018

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I asked the caller several times what the call was in reference to and she refuses to answer. A judgment does NOT allow anyone that answers the phone access to my social security number. The caller gave the office secretary my social security number. Not just the last four digits as they claim. This was also not the first time it had happened and not the first time they were told not to call back. This is harassment and being hazardous to secure information that should not be given to anyone. Especially just because they answer the phone! If there is any information needed, I suggest they contact me directly or they don't need to be contacting my former employer. Especially if I am not allowed to know why this information is being requested. That is privileged information and not to be given out to anyone without direct involvement to whatever is going on. I also do not have any knowledge of any judgment against me, so I should expect proper procedures to be followed as I am not a client. Cease actions immediately or I will take further actions.

I am writing this complaint against The RNN Group as they have just contacted my employer requesting employment verification as well as the last 4 digits of my social security number. Luckily he did not provide any info to them however after reading from other consumers on the internet it seems they are looking to steal money by using the social security number. I just spoke with my employer and he told me that this is the person that contacted him today *** - rnn group - 3rd party verification firm
***.

I am truly unsure who these people are and why they are contacting my employer for my employment verification. I would like this to stop before something bad happens to me. Thank you

We are sorry the consumer feels that our fax looks "very fake" and that she believes our address is unknown" Our fax cover sheet is a standard cover sheet and it is the same cover sheet we have used in our business for over 5 years. Our address being unknown is of surprise as our address is clearly stated in the fax cover sheet and we are in the Centennial Tower in downtown Atlanta.

I am receiving phone calls from this company at my place of business asking for my supervisor to confirm my social sercurity number and my date of birth.

I have no idea what this company wants, or why they are calling my place of employement to verify my personal information.

I spoke with the person calling and she insisted on me to give her my personal information via phone.

This RNN Company has called and harrassed my co-workers. That is not my personal information, and I will not disclose my personal information to anyone asking to speak to Lydia. The Company was very unprofessional. I am pursuing legal representation for this matter if the harrasment continues.

RNN Group, LLC contacted my place of work asking for my employment verification for purposes to provide information to financial institutions and law firms. On the attached PDF was my name spelled incorrectly and an incorrect social security number. When I called to ask why they have this information and how they obtained this information, the representative named*** could not answer and told me that I could contact the security team through their website to find who was looking for my information. I believe this is a phishing scam looking to collect more data to build a stronger identity theft profile.

Desired Outcome

Other (requires explanation) For this fraudulent business to be listed as a phishing scam throughout the internet and for this company to remove any and all of my information from their data base as their business seems to be committing identity theft crimes.

RNN Group Response

RNN is contracted by Law firms, Lenders and Department of education to verify employment information for consumers who are in default with our client, our clients have a permissible purpose such as a court order or judgment against the consumer that allows them to obtain this information. We receive leads and information as to possible employment information for a consumer, In this case we attempted to verify information for a consumer with a similar name. At no time are we attempting to conduct Identity theft nor are we a fraudulent business. We maintain the highest PCI standards and compliance with FCRA, FDCPA and TCPA. We are unable to release information as to who our client is since this was not the correct consumer and in doing so we would be releasing private information. We apologize for contacting this consumer, we have communicated to him multiple times our business practice and unless he is the right party consumer we are unable to release who our client is.
