Roomster Corp. Reviews (694)

Review: I authorized Roomster to charge my credit card $14.95 for a one time, two week subscription to their service on 6/**/2013. I discovered in my credit card statement that Roomster Corp had charged me an additional $29.95 on 6/**/13 and another $29.95 on 7/**/13. I was unable to find a customer service phone number anywhere and used their online "Help Desk" service, where I requested two times to have a customer service representative call me regarding the billing issue. I was told via this online help desk "All customer service is done via this helpdesk." I attempted to state my issue and received a response indicating that nothing would be done to resolve my issue and that no refund would be made to my credit card, even though I had not authorized for nor used services beyond the initial two week period I had originally signed up for. The response claimed that I was informed by email when I created my account on 12/*/2010 that I would be charged these additional amounts; yet the helpdesk representative was unable to provide a copy of the email. Furthermore, it does not seem logical that an email sent in 2010 would apply to charges made in 2013. At no point did the helpdesk representative attempt to find a constructive solution to my complaint.Desired Settlement: I would like to be refunded a total of $59.90 for the two charges of $29.95 on 6/**/13 and 7/**/13, as I neither requested nor used the service during that time. This will be the only outcome I would find satisfactory.

Review: I was in the hospital very ill and I signed up for a 3 day trial on March [redacted].. desperate to find a roommate.

I get a notification from my bank today, saying I have over drafted. I am so saddened by this and I feel truly taken advantage of. All I did was post a listing.. I didn't respond to anything, I pretty much forgot about this website, because I was in the hospital when I signed up. Yeah yeah, I spoke with the horrendous customer service agents that kindly responded with template emails that made no sense, which just reiterated [redacted] I already know. ( like how to access billing information} Not to mention the sarcastic, robotic language of the template "we're sorry you feel this way even though we CLEARLY say that your subscription will skyrocket at the end of your trial and we'll store your CC information within our systems" ..... How extremely rude, an inane. Why would ANYONE pay for this service? I looked at the inbox today and everything seems to be fake, or the people "matched" with me are not even able to pay my advertised rent price. Obviously there is an issue with the way your terms of service are laid out, if it was "CLEARLY STATED" on ANY page, then don't you think these reviews wouldn't exist? I get it, people "may miss" fine print.. but when there's this many people complaining about your unethical business practices, and sleazy terms of services with surprise hidden fees, maybe a terms of service revision is in order, since it is NOT "clearly stated. " LOOK... I am not trying to convey a sob story, but I am on the verge of eviction, I signed up for service thinking "aww man with my cheap price, and a matching service.. surely 3 days will be sufficient" I have no been overdrafted in my account, I have gotten no benefits or advantages of the service. I am pleading with you.

Please refund the amount of 29.95 to me ... Because this is just wrong.Desired Settlement: I want a refund of the renewed auto debited subscription cost of 29.95...

I agreed to 5.95 and thats what I paid.. I want my account deleted and a refund issued.

To Whom It May Concern: We received a Revdex.com customer complaint letter from user [redacted]. She has canceled her subscription after scheduled renewal took place. When she contacted us, account representative have explained her, why she was charged and provided her all the information, that we state right on the credit card page, that subscription will renew if she doesn't cancel it. And then we have issued her a pro-rated refund on the last transaction, even before receiving a complaint from Revdex.com. We consider this matter is closed.

Review: Review: My daughter signed up for a 15 day trial for $14.95 using my debit card. Once the trial was over she cancelled the account, however; I have been charged $29.95 for 3 months for a renewal subscription Sept *, 2014; Oct *, 2014; Nov *, 2014. These transactions were not authorized nor did I consent to this renewal. I have electronic bank statements and had trouble with my account and have been ill the last few months so I did not catch it immediately. As I was reviewing my checking information I saw the $29.95 charge taken the first day of each month. I called my credit union this morning and asked them to stop charges from Roomster Corporation which has no telephone number, and no way to contact them; just an automatic voice mail directing you to the site. I cancelled my current debit card and am filing fraud charges through my credit union as well.

Desired Settlement: I would like to have the unauthorized money that was taken from my checking account refunded to my debit card.Desired Settlement: I would like to have the unauthorized money that was taken from my checking account refunded to my debit card.

Review: this company is awful and deceiving. I paid 5.95 for 3 days access on Saturday 2/**/14 with my Paypal account. I tried to get a refund and they refused.Desired Settlement: I just want those 2 months fully refunded

Sincerely,

Review: Roomster has been posting advertisements on Craigslist in the Dallas area (and other metropolitan areas) to deceive people into using its site.

The product they represent on Craigslist: various rooms posted by people looking for roommates who are free to contact.

The product actually offered: through links to Roomster's site, other listings by people who you must pay to contact.

Not only is Roomster violating Craigslist's ToS in a predatory way, it is reducing the value of Craigslist as a provider of free classified ads by diluting its offerings with toxic posts.Desired Settlement: I bet Roomster was founded by people who initially wanted to make it easier for people to find rooms and roommates.

Instead, they have accomplished the opposite: they have made apartment hunting significantly more difficult.

I want a written apology from Roomster for the way their misrepresentations have affected me.

Good Day,

Review: When I had subscribed for the site I had chosen the 3-5 day subscription option that was about 6 dollars. And when I had subscribed and given my debit card for payment I was not told that after the 3-5 days that they would renew my subscription and this time take about 30 dollars out of my account. I was not sent an email nor was I given the impression that they would do this. Had I known that I wouldn't have subscribed for anything. And I tried to contact them by phone but they don't do billing issues over the phone and when I tried to send an email they wanted me to subscribe once again to tell them about my issue.Desired Settlement: I want a complete refund of the second charge that I had not authorised.

Response:

[redacted] signed up for Roomster on 7/**/2014 2:47:06 AM she upgraded her account and bought a subscription on 7/**/2015 6:25:21 AM. She agreed to the terms of use twice stating that this was a monthly subscription service that renewed at $29.95 per month and that she could cancel at any time. She in fact did cancel without any problem on 7/**/2015 9:39:49 PM, the day after her subscription was renewed, she then promptly deleted her account, without contacting us, even though we have a fully staffed 24/7 customer support help desk. As a courtesy to this customer we have issued a refund for this renewal of $29.95. This has been a waist of the Revdex.com's time and resources because [redacted] never bothered to contact us. Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory enough to me and the matter has been resolved. I am happy to have a complete refund and will check my banking account to ensure that the money is returned. Thank you for helping resolve this complaint, I don't believe this was a waste of time as I have come to see that I am not the only one who's had this issue with the same company. I hope that the others who have had this issue get the same resolution I am getting. Once again, thank you for your help.

Sincerely,

Very disappointed. Extremely poor technical/customer support. There's no way to change the email address under Edit Settings. I have a house for rent in Columbia, SC and all of my notifications are coming from Charlotte, NC. There's no phone or chat support, and even the web-based requests don't get answered in a timely manner. I re-upped just now. I wasted $15.95.

Review: I signed up with Roomster about a year ago online and have been reasonably satisfied with their service. I traveled outside of the country for a few months and though they charged my account fees I was not able to reliably access my account. I did not get a reasonable response to this but things seemed okay once I returned.

I went to my account a few days ago and cannot login to access my mailbox. There is a message saying that they have switched to a [redacted] only login policy. I contacted customer service and keep getting that message back in a variety of ways. I am a senior citizen and do not have a [redacted] page so now cannot access my mailbox which has messages for me since they continue to list my rental as available on their site.

They provided no prior notice that this policy was forthcoming and these were not the terms that I agreed to when I signed up with them. I have a printed copy of the terms of service and conditions.

As best I can decipher based on the notices sent to my email box, I have about 200 messages/contacts that I cannot access.Desired Settlement: I would like their response and assistance with accessing my account given their change in policy and links that do not seem to work as well as a possible 30 day period to position myself for continued participation within the new constraints.

So, I want to receive a call from a representative, have them walk me thru the process of complying with the new policy and if that is not able to be done, a waiver of 30 days while I get someone to assist me. In that period I want access to my inbox and the messages that are contained there.

[redacted] signed up with our service on 2/*/2014 1:58:26 PM and has been a good and loyal customer and has upgraded her account several time since then. Her last paid subscription was purchased on 7/**/2015 11:23:12 AM and full has has expired, She had full access and no interruption of service while her account was in "premium"mode. We have since switched Roomster's sign up and login exclusively to [redacted] and require all users to login using [redacted] login. This decision was made to limit fraud and protect our customers. Please note the the link to 24/7 support is still always available to our customers who may or may not decide to use [redacted] login. This was a business decision and not a matter for the Revdex.com. We welcome [redacted] to authenticate herself using [redacted] login, if not, we can no longer offer her service. We consider this matter closed.

Review: I subscribed to a 3-day trial for $5.95 and after that trial period was over I was charged $29.95 for services that I did not want. I have tried contacting the company to request a refund but I have not been able to get a response from a representative.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of $29.95 and to cancel my subscription so that my account is never charged by this company again.

Review: I filed a complaint with Roomster about a charge I received on 9/**/14, 8/**/14, and 7/**/14. I bought a 15 day subscription to Roomster and then cancelled my account before the 15 days were up, which it clearly states online under my account preferences. However, they have continued to charge my account after my Roomster account was deactivated. Shoshanah M[redacted] signed up for Roomster on 3/*/2015 3:10:05 AM and upgraded her membership on 12/*/2015 2:31:50 PM.We would never have charged her credit card without her permission and authorization, Not only did she have to sign off on the terms of use twice, It also states that her credit card would be renewed at the monthly rate of $29.95 in large letters above the credit card authorization button so that it complies with Law. Its is not in small print, and is extremely visible and easy to read. Just in case she did not read this we also sent out an email to "[redacted]" and another message in her onsite help desk at 12/*/2015 2:31:50 PM.Her statements that she was not properly notified are false. However, because we are a good company and in an effort to provide excellent customer service we issued a credit for the last charge of $29.95 before she even contacted the Revdex.com. Please find attached screenshots of 1)her actual credit card page & 2)her roomster 24/7 support help desk With the credit issued and our case proven, We consider this matter closed.

Review: I purchased a 3 day subscription with them. On the website it stated that if you didn't cancel before the 3rd day that your card would be charged 29.95. So I canceled on the 2nd day. Will me card was charged. So I went on their site to find out what was going on and found out that I was still active. So I canceled again and contacted customer service about the problem and for a refund. They email me back and said they canceled my subscription again but nothing about putting the money back on my card. I asked for a number to call and they said that they don't do business like that. I asked about the money again and they have replied. It's been 2 weeks and I have emailed 10 times but no reply. I feel like I just got scammedDesired Settlement: I would like to be refunded the money that shouldn't have been charged in the first place

Thank you,

Review: In early October, I purchased a 3 day subscription to Roomster for $5.95 and nothing more. Recently, I noticed they unethically took $29.95 per month for the last two months without my knowledge and without notifying me out of my bank account. I did not purchase a monthly subscription, I purchased three days only. I would like $59.90 to be refunded into my account.

In addition, it appears as though the company posts fake listings on [redacted] that appear to be from a person but are actually automated. The phone numbers can not be called, but can be texted. However, the automated texts always direct you to the Roomster website but to no particular apartment listing. This is a way to lead potential customers to the site and forcing them to purchase a subscription to see the listings. Also, these listings do not even exist on the Roomster website and they are not real people who post them. This should be investigated further by the Revdex.com.Desired Settlement: • A full refund of $59.90.

• An investigation by the Revdex.com or some other organization into the business practices of Roomster and their fake [redacted] ads with phone numbers that, when texted, turn out to be automated and not real people.

Review: This website is a scam. They host fraudulent profiles and send you messages that you can only read once you upgrade your account for a fee. The website is ripping off tenants and landlords that fall victim to this false service. Then they make unauthorized recurring charges to your credit card or [redacted] account. This website needs to be shut down, and a class action lawsuit filed for false business practices and fraud. We issued a refund for $5.95 as soon as [redacted] contacted our 24/7 help desk and before we received this complaint via the Revdex.com.please see the attached screenshots.1.Billing history page with refund already processed.2.24/7 help desk conversation, where [redacted] asked for a refund and is told she is granted one.[redacted] makes some pretty outlandish claims about our service, business model and our integrity, and offers conspiracy theories about our content. Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

I am grateful that this business has granted me a refund for their poor service. But the fact of the matter is that they cannot be advertising 24/7 customer support if they don't even respond to a customer within the same day, and do not offer a phone number to reach a real human being. Maybe this business does not understand what offering a "24/7 help desk" entails: a response from a real person within minutes to hours. Their claim is outright false advertising. Furthermore, they state that their messaging platform is very safe, and yet the only people I received messages from were fake profiles. I received a response regarding a room for rent, and the "woman" was trying to get me to send her a copy of my passport and a $600 deposit without signing any legal documents. This "woman" sent me an address for the room for rent, so I went to the address and talked to the people living there. There was no woman living there by this person's name, and no rooms were available. This profile was completely fake, and a scam to try to get my private information and money. I did not feel safe using their service whatsoever, despite whatever claims they have made.If this is a legitimate business they need to do a serious security upgrade and eliminate these spam profiles that are trying to rip people off. They need to stop making claims that they offer 24/7 support, and they also need to state in their policy that they will in fact issue refunds upon customer dissatisfaction. If they had stated they would grant refunds in their policy, and I had received a timely response from this business under the stipulation that they offer 24/7 support, I would not have reacted by filing a complaint to the Revdex.com. Perhaps they would receive fewer complaints if they implemented these changes into their business practices. Until that happens, I would never recommend this business to anyone, and I stand by my experience.I would like to add that the way in which this business responded to my complaint stating that I was making outlandish claims and offering conspiracy theories is downright unprofessional. I would never expect this kind of response from a legitimate business that was trying to improve customer satisfaction. They have succeeded in making me further dissatisfied with their customer service in their response.Thank you Revdex.com for offering a platform where people can be heard, and taking the time to investigate this issue.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.

Sincerely,

Review: I signed up for an online service for a three day period for $5.95. Prior to the three days being up I canceled my account, so my account would not renew. Apparently, the cancellation did not go through as I still got charged a renewal fee of $29.95. I contacted Roomster to let them know of the error and to get assistance in correcting the cancellation on my account and request a refund of my money due to there system error not accepting my cancellation. I then got a nasty response from their customer service who refused to help me cancel my account and would not refund my money. They gave me instructions to cancel, but every time I tried to cancel through their website it was not working (see customer service correspondence below). After multiple times on separate days of attempting to cancel my account I finally received notification on 8/**/2013 that it had been canceled. In addition, I tried contacting a person to avoid working with the customer service representatives online, and there is no way to speak with an actual person. [redacted] Aug **, 2013 at 1:02 PM Help & Support I signed up and authorized a $5.95 charge to my account. I just got charged a $29.95 renewal fee. I would like a refund f the $29.95 as I am not authorizing this charge. Please refund my money and cancel my account immediately. I had thought I had already had canceled my account but it obviously didn't go through in your system. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 6_1_2 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/536.26 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/6.0 Mobile/10B146 Safari/8536.25 [redacted] Aug **, 2013 at 1:48 PM RE: Help & Support we would never charge anyone's card with authorization and notification! To Cancel My Subscription If you "Cancel My Subscription" you will have full access to your mail box for the duration of your paid period, but it will not be renewed. When your paid time period is up, you will prompted to upgrade again. (instructions) 1. Account 2. Settings 3. Subscription 4. Cancel my subscription Done! When you upgraded to a subscription You were required to check off on the terms of use TWICE in order to create an account with us. The subscription policy is also stated on all these pages: 1. Terms of use [see screenshot] 2. Credit card authorization page [see screenshot] 3. The subscription tab on account page 4. FAQ page We state on your billing history page when your subscription is being renewed, so that you can end your subscription before a new billing cycle begins. We also sent you a message right here in this helpdesk and an email notification to [redacted], right after you paid on "8/**/2013 10:00:06 PM" telling you to cancel, and how: "Your subscription can be canceled at any time. There is a link to manage your subscription right on this page." [redacted] Aug **, 2013 at 2:22 PM Help & Support So are you going to refund my money or do I have to dispute this charge with my bank? I did try and cancel my account but conveniently your system didn't accept my cancellation because it still got charged. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 6_1_2 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/536.26 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/6.0 Mobile/[redacted] Safari/8536.25 [redacted] Aug **, 2013 at 3:07 AM RE: Help & Support I'm sorry, but you have not canceled your subscription to date. Screenshot 1: Acceptance of Terms of Use on 8/*/2013 9:07:12 PM EST Screenshot 2: Authorization of Subscription and 2nd acceptance of Terms of Use on 8/**/2013 10:00:06 PM EST The information below is available for your records and may also be available to your financial institution upon request. On two separate occasions you had agreed to the Terms of Use: on 8/*/2013 9:07:12 PM EST on the Registration Page (see screenshot #1) and on 8/**/2013 10:00:06 PM EST on the Payment Page (see screenshot #2) where you were informed that your Roomster subscription would continue and be automatically renewed until canceled by you. It also shows the renewal rates for the packages available to you on 8/**/2013 10:00:06 PM EST. All Sales are final and all Roomster accounts can only be closed by the account holder through the procedure described above. We do not accept cancellations by e-mail. [redacted] Aug **, 2013 at 11:45 AM Help & Support That still didn't answer my question. So I will just dispute this through my bank. I have told you multiple times I have tried to cancel my account but your system hasn't let me, and since you won't cancel my membership via my request through your help and support I tried calling. The phone number you have listed says go on here for help and you say do it yourself. You missed the point that I did not authorize this charge because I followed your directions and canceled my account prior to the renewal but your system is not indicating my account as being canceled. Therefore, due to a system error your company has you erroneously charged me $29.95 and you won't own up to the faulty system. This is scam and I will report you to he Revdex.com. I am not using your system either, so there is no reason to keep my money. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 6_1_2 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/536.26 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/6.0 Mobile/10B146 Safari/8536.25 Customer Service Aug **, 2013 at 11:48 AM Thank you for cancelling your subscription Thank you for cancelling your subscription. All future billing has ended. You will have full access to your Roomster mail box for the duration of your paid period, but it will not be renewed. Roomster Team [redacted] Aug **, 2013 at 11:50 AM RE: Help & Support I see that you just had no problem canceling your subscription. You can view your billing history by clicking here. [redacted] Aug **, 2013 at 11:55 AM Help & Support After multiple attempts my account finally is indicating it as being canceled. I have told you multiple times that my account was not cancelling and you would not provide me assistance. I do not appreciate the attitude you are giving me. All I wanted was a refund of my money and help closing out my account, because canceling via the internet was not working. Like I said, I did attempt to cancel it multiple times, so obviously I did have problems. I am in the process of filing a complaint with the Revdex.com. Your services are extremely unprofessional and you will be hearing from them. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 10.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/6.0)Desired Settlement: I would like my money of $29.95 returned to me, and an apology for how I was treated so rudely by customer service representative. I have never dealt with a more horrible company.

Sincerely,

Review: This business advertises false ads on [redacted] as apartments for rent. Then asks you to verify you're not a robot at a website. It turns out to be roomster.com. Then there is no further communication or replies and the listing is not found on the website. It's a scam to get you to sign-up and they keep doing it. They have multiple listings that are cheap and to good to be true so you follow through. They are despicable and if they claim they had not idea, it's false cause I can see there are other complaints of with the same situation.Desired Settlement: They need to stop this dishonorable practice. They make you sign in through [redacted] and now I had to to change all my passwords on my email and other accounts. This could be criminal ID theft, too. They definitely are scammers.
