Review: I was offered to try out Roomster with all of it's membership benefits for 3 days for $5.95. I never really used the site and I was just sent non sense emails daily from the site. I never found a roommate or got on the site because it was useless. Little did I know I was being charged for a full membership in the amount of $29.99 every month since the 3 day trial. I just realized that these charges were occurring and I am pissed. I would like a full refund of my payments since May because I wasn't using the site nor did I agree to paying for a full membership.Desired Settlement: $87.00

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is appreciated. However, I see only 1 credited to my account and not 3 payments of $29.99. I would like to know why they were not credited together and if they are each credited separately when I should see the other 2 credits. Thank you!

Review: I signed up for what I thought was a short-term (3 day) membership to Roomster for a one-time charge of $5.95.

I later found out that I had been charged for 15 days at $14.95 and in addition had received three recurring monthly charges for $29.95 because in the contract fine print there is a deeply buried paragraph that membership must be cancelled by the member or the system will default to continuing membership and corresponding monthly charges.

Aside from the fact that I was under the impression that it was a 3-day ONE-TIME membership but was charged for the 15-day membership, the ethical issue is that the fine print print window is not expandable, making it hard to read all of the contractual wording and that the following paragraph is buried so deeply that one must scroll down considerably to find it.

"You may purchase an initial 3 day Full Membership subscription for $5.95, an initial 15 day Full Membership subscription for $14.95, or an initial 30 day Full Membership subscription for $29.95. You will be asked to choose an initial Full Membership subscription period when you sign up for Full Membership. AUTOMATIC RENEWAL. If you subscribe for Full Membership, your subscription will automatically renew following the applicable initial subscription period for 3 additional, successive 30 day periods at a rate of $29.95 for each 30 day period, unless you elect to cancel your subscription by following the cancellation procedures described below. If you do not cancel your subscription, we will automatically charge your payment account at the beginning of each of the 3 successive 30 day periods following the end of the applicable Initial subscription period."

I only discovered the additional monthly charges a few days ago and have asked Roomster corp to refund my money. I have been reluctant to cancel my membership at this time because I fear the company would make it hard to deal with customer service for non-members. I would like to cancel my membership as soon as my money is refunded.Desired Settlement: I would like the three concurrent monthly charges for $29.95 refunded to me.

Roomster can keep the difference between what I believed was a 3-day membership and the 15-day membership I apparently was signed on for.

Review: I signed up for the $5.95 3 trial subscription and never authorized for my account to be charged $29.95 for a full subscription account. I only signed up for the $5.95 because I had to to be able to read the messages in the inbox. There was no disclosure stating that my account would auto renew for $29.95 after the 3 days was up. I have already contacted their customer support. I want someone to contact me about my refund immediately!Desired Settlement: Roomster should refund my money immediately! I did not authorize them to take $29.95 out of my account.

Review: Roomster charged me for 3 months of service that I never authorized, nor did I sign up for. I originally singed up for a 3 day service in order to search for potential roommates. The company continued to charge me without me ever actually asking to enroll in a regular service. I purchased a 3 day access pass.

Sincerely,

Review: The company tricks people into buying a full membership by only allowing those with a full membership to access their mailbox. They then send you a message in the inbox so that oi have to buy a membership to read the message. The message was a scam. I paid for a three day membership and cancelled 2 days later. I was told by someone at the company that they would ensure my membership was cancelled. I was then charged $29.95 for a month long membership. I have contacted the company multiple times and asked to ask for a refund. They refuse to issue one. I have asked to speak with somone to discuss the issue and they will only do business over their website and refuse to provide with a number to call or a name of a supervisor to help solve the situationDesired Settlement: I am not asking for a refund of both charges, just a refund for the charge that was made after I was told my subscription would be cancelled. Refund $29.95 to my credit card and ensure that I am not charged again

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory. But the business response led me to believe that they had already refunded my debit card, which they have not. The response is satisfactory as long as the business follows through. Review: I was asked through a [redacted] response to sign up. The only way to message people is to purchase a plan.

I received multiple texts including a link to roomster for "secure messaging". All of the links I was sent were from [redacted] ads that have since been taken down as "flagged for removal". When using the site as a room/apartment search engine and message system most postings have no details or look fake. One person responded to my request in the messages and then asked that I email them outside of the application. The address they provided does not exist - I personally went to the location to confirm before continuing communication.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of the $14.95 for the 15 day subscription. Review: Good evening,

My name is [redacted] I have used Roomster to try to find roomates to live with and I used one of the subscriptions in order to check emails that were sent to me, and I signed up for the cheapest one which was the $5.95 subscription and then I noticed in my billing statements on [redacted] that you guys have been charging me an extra $25.95 for the month and then this month you guys took out another $25.95 from my checking account but I don't understand why because I never subscribed for the monthly payments, only the 3 day $5.95. I'm just asking for my money back which is an total of $51.90. Please contact me as soon as possible about this situation. Thank you!

Review: I signed up for a 3 day trial for $5.95 on day 06/**/14 on Roomster to look for a room in LA and I used it for 3 days.

They kept sending me emails with rooms that apparently don't exist I just received a couple of answers on 30 requested I sent. I rented a room with another service that is honest and since I didn't need their emails anymore I just logged into my account and removd my request for a room. I didn't know that in that way I stopped them to charge me. Anyway I did that beginning of july but the last charge from them was in august.

Last week I checked my account and I realized that they charged me $29.95 for 3 months, here the dates of the transactions:

08/**/14 $29.95

07/**/14 $29.95

06/**/14 $29.95

Here the datas on the transactions so you can better find them since I am not sure about their address since they closed my account.

I told them I needed the other 2 monthly payments back and they agreed saying I would have received the money back in a couple of days, but they never did it and they closed my account so I cannot communicate with them anymore.

They use a very shady fine print that is a fraud.

They can keep the $5.95 the only payment I agreed but I need my $59.95 back.

Please help me to get my money back and them to close this terrible business that makes victims all around the country.

Review: On December [redacted], I purchased a two week subscription for roomster for $14.95. I did not see an automatic renewal clause, which must have been hidden in their long list of terms and apparently is not an option or a clause that one could opt-out of. This is an unfair and dishonest business practice to have this automatic renewal built-in in any subscription. As soon as I found out that I was charged for a whole month on 12/[redacted]for the amount of $29.95, I contacted the provider and complained, requesting a full refund given that I have not used their services since December **, only paid for and consented to a two week subscription on December [redacted]and cancelled my all services immediately as soon as I found out about the second charge on 1/**/2014. This is an unfair business practice given that the consumer was unfairly tricked into an automatic renewal of which she was unaware and upon signaling that the consumer does not intend to use the services for the month of January for which she was charged on 12/**and immediately notified the company on 1/**/2014, the company still refuses to process a full refund. Good day!

Review: Roomster is a huge scam. I had signed up for the site during my search for housing in the DC metropolitan area. The site is free to use, but you have to pay for the premium membership to email certain users, and the most recent property listings. Scuzzy - but not illegal. However the real problem comes (this is just within the site itself) when you create a profile, you occasionally get clearly automated messages (almost always in broken english) for people listing properties that usually match almost none of the criteria you put in your profile. And you will often get the same message from a different bot, or sometimes the same one, even if you already said no thanks to the listing. Additionally, when your on craigslist there are scores (I really mean it, 70-80% of the ads were roomster scams) of postings that lead back to roomster. Often times there will be a handful of different properties in different areas with the same contact phone number or email address, all written as if it's the current house resident looking for a new roommate. And then when you contact the number or email; they send you to one of a dozen fake proxy sites that just bounce you back to roomster. SCAM SCAM SCAM, nothing redeeming about this site.Desired Settlement: Modification/Discontinuance of an advertised claimShut this site down, or at least bring the scam to light so noone else has to deal with what I did.

I really don't see how [redacted] is the best security solution. I appreciate the credit of $1.37 in response to my complaint, but I was not even contesting the charge. My problem is that for months I was searching for a room and the majority of what I had to wade through in my search was roomster scams. If your site truly is so plagued by mysterious [redacted] scammers, it may be time to shut down this domain and migrate to one that is NOT full of security holes. Literally I have not had a single shred of success with roomster, on or off site. And if you really are doing your best to improve security, and you aren't a total scam - why are there SO MANY phony proxy websites that redirect to your website? [redacted] etc etc... What's more - both of the aforementioned sites link to your supposedly new and secure [redacted] login page. and guess what, when I [redacted] both of these site - EVERY SINGLE LINK is just a link to a scam checking website/blog. Not a single one comes up as a legitimate, or a subsidy of roomster corp. And what's more - roomster itself. Your whole Revdex.com page is just complaints about your business.

My goal here is not to earn a dollar off your corporation. I simply want to put on record an illegitimate business practice; so that other people don't have to waste so much of their valuable time on a site that will get them nothing but frustration.

Their customer service says 24/7 support, I got one email response back that was vague and didn't acknowledge the charge I was disputing. They've charged me for the 30 days and now that I e had to go to the site, be actively logged I and displaying my profile to even email customer service, it's not even giving me full access. I haven't cancelled yet because I want this resolved honestly. I think it's atrocious that these online services can can get away with automatic charges and renewals. Why would I pay for 72 hour access if you're just going to charge me or a fu month? I have been trying to get a response from customer service and have gotten nothing. Any legitimate business should have a phone line for customer service. This is ridiculous that I can't talk to a real person.Desired Settlement: I want my charge refunded/reversed for the $29.95. Review: AN UNETHICAL BUSINESS THAT LOOKS TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIER CUSTOMERS. Roomster.com advertises a 15-day subscription, but indicates in the fine print that you will really be set to an auto-renewal of 30-day subscriptions for $30 at the end of your 15-days. Roomster does not email you to warn you of the renewal prior nor will they email you bills each month indicating that you are being charged. I found the charge by looking through my credit card history. They also do not have a phone number with an active person to resolve any such complaints. Roomster.com did not help me find a roommate and took $30 a month out of my account for three months without notifying me. They also cancelled my subscription after the third month of inactivity knowing full well that I wasn't using their service.Desired Settlement: A full $90 refund for the three months I was inappropriately charged.

[redacted] signed up for Roomster on 8/**/2015 5:42:41 PM and upgraded his membership on 8/**/2015 5:52:54 PM.We would never have charged his credit card without his permission and authorization. Not only did he have to sign off on the terms of use twice, It also states that his credit card would be renewed at the monthly rate of $29.95 unless he elect to cancel his subscription. It in standard size letters above the credit card authorization button so that it complies with Law. His statement that we don’t warn our customers about future renewals is false. We sent out an email to "[redacted]" and another message in his onsite help desk at 8/**/2015 5:52:54 PM.However, because we are a good company and in an effort to provide excellent customer service we issued a credit for the last charge of $29.95 before he even contacted the Revdex.com. Also we have issued 2 previous transactions. Please find attached screenshots of his actual credit card page. With the credit issued and our case proven, We consider this matter closed.Tell us why here...

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.

Sincerely,

Review: I signed up for an account with Roomster.com. Upon seeking short term, temporary housing, I received numerous responses from people I THOUGHT were truly renting their space. I found, however, that the places weren't real, that I couldn't get detailed information from them, researched the phone numbers the contacts were coming from, only to find it seemed to be a scam of somesort.

I emailed and called Roomster.com on numerous occasions to have them cancel my account. I didn't hear back and they've continued to charge my account $29.95 for three months!

The only thing I can think of is that Roomster.com makes money from the monthly fee they charge to millions of people who are then unable to drop the service and unable to contact the company for resolution. This needs to be stopped!Desired Settlement: I want my money back! This company needs to be shut down!

Thank you for your assistance.

we did not find an account for [redacted] with the email address ([redacted]), but did find one using [redacted] with the name [redacted]. She contacted us on 3/*/2015 10:19:04 AM & 3/*/2015 5:41:25 PM not about a refund, but how she was trying to find a specific member on the site, which is not our responsibility to provide. [redacted] made no attempts to ask for any of her subscription back and has logged in 100's of times using Roomster's services! as a courtesy we have issued a credit of $89.95 back to her CC ending in [redacted] & have terminated her account We consider this matter closed. Had she asked for her money back directly to us, we could have avoided this waste of the Revdex.com's time. Review: I signed up for the 3-day subscription and paid $5.95. After those 3 days were up, I was charged $29.95 but I did not elect to sign up for the full membership. I have attempted to contact Roomster twice and have not received a response.Desired Settlement: I would like the $29.95 to be refunded to my debit card.

[redacted] statement that she contacted Roomster is not true. Review: I purchased a 3-day pass to access Roomster's services for $5.95. After the three days were over I was surprised to find that I was automatically charged with a $29.95 30-day subscription with no warning or authorization. If I had at least been notified that my three days were over and I was about to be charged, I could accept this as my own responsibility but this was sneakily done with NO warning whatsoever--and I've received a slew of other emails from Roomster so it's not as if they don't know how to reach me. There is no phone number to be found so that I can talk to an actual human representative to settle this issue.Desired Settlement: I would like to be refunded the $29.95 that Roomster Corp underhandedly charged me.
