Review: Roomster.com uses misleading business tactics to part people from their money. You have to upgrade your subscription in order to read a message that was sent to you by a supposed member. The fine print that says that if you don't cancel your three day 'trial' subscription (interesting that they only refer to it as a trial subscription in the Terms of Use but not anywhere else) it will automatically be renewed for $29.95 each month. I was automatically renewed and I feel that this is wrong because it is not CLEARLY outlined anywhere. When I first realized that they had charged me I sent them a message via their helpdesk because you cannot call. It is a recorded message system which only refers you back to their website. . They responded with a standardized message with links to the screenshots of when I agreed to their Terms of Use.

Response:

We received a Revdex.com customer complaint letter from user [redacted] with assigned ID [redacted].

When the user upgraded to a subscription, the user was required to check off on the terms of use twice in order to create an account with us. The subscription policy is also stated on all these pages:

1. Terms of use

2. Credit card authorization page

3. The subscription tab on account page

4. FAQ page

We state on the user's billing history page when the subscription is being renewed, so that the user can end the subscription before a new billing cycle begins. The user canceled the subscription after the scheduled renewal.

As a courtesy to the client, we have refunded the last transaction of $29.95, even though the premium membership was canceled after the scheduled renewal took place.

Please see screenshots below confirming refund and subscription rates from the credit card page.

Thank you,

Review: On 5/**/2014 I authorized Roomster.com to bill be for $5.95 which was to be 72 hour use of their services. On 5/**/2014, Roomster.com proceeded to renew my subscription for a month with fees totaling $29.95; which, I DID NOT authorize. I was very dissatisfied with their service and now after several attempts (seven to be exact) to resolve this issue with their "24/7 support" I have yet to hear anything from them. I cancelled my subscription immediately at which time was prompted to a notice that informed me that I would no longer be billed and that I will have access to their service for the remainder of my [unauthorized] subscription. I do not want continued use of their so called service. I have waited to hear back from their support before completely disabling my account; however, it has become clear that they will not be in contact. Hence this complaint. As of today, 5/**/2014 at 9:23 AM my account is disabled.Desired Settlement: My desired outcome is very simple. I would like the total of the unauthorized charges to be reimbursed to my credit card for a total of $29.95. Also, I want others to aware of their unethical billing practices as well as their horrible customer service/support.

Review: On 6/**/2015 3:00:03 PM I paid for a 15 day subscription for $14.95. After the 15 days were up on 6/**/2015 3:00:22 PM I was charged an additional $29.95 for a 30 day renewal with out my authorization. I gave no consent for this transaction and was given no notice that it was made. I want money back!Desired Settlement: I was charged $29.95 with out my authorization therefore I demand a full refund of $29.95 immediately!!

Response:

on /**/2015 3:00:03 PM [redacted] created a subscription with Roomster and absolutely authorized monthly charges of $29.95 that could be canceled at any time. She agreed to the terms of use twice and we did properly notify her. She contacted our help desk on 7/*/2015 12:21:28 that she wanted her money back, we promptly notified her and processed a refund at 7/*/2015 10:31:21 AMThis matter was resolved before we received a notice from the Revdex.com. We issued a refund of $29.95 as a result of our excellent customer service. This was a waste of the Revdex.com's time and we consider the matter closed.

Review: I signed up for a 15-day trial for 14.95, assuming the trial would not automatically renew. However, I discovered this was not the case when I found another charge for an additional 30 days for $29.95. This information was not made clear during the registration process and was buried deep within a difficult-to-read terms of service agreement.

I contacted the company about receiving a refund using their "24/7" support line, but did not receive a response regarding my complaint until two days later.

In the mean time, I attempted to warn other users on the site by writing this information in my "about me" and actual screen name, but the website censored the use of the words "roomster," "scam," and "this site" without explanation.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of the second charge on my account, a total of $29.95.

Review: This company charged with me $29.95 for a whole month's renewal subscription fee when I did not choose to subscribe. I did not authorize or consent to this renewal. They have absolutely no authority to charge me without prior notice or asking. I believe there are thousands of victims like me.Desired Settlement: I would like to have my unauthorized money refund to the debit card I was unethically charged. Additionally, I would like to have my account for their website deactivated and I strongly hope I would never be charged like this from that company again.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me insofar that the business has agreed to refund my money of $29.95. The matter has been resolved. I will completely stop using the service from Roomster from now, and if the business would charge me without my approval or authorization again in the future, I will not relinquish any legitimate rights to complain or sue.

Thanks for the help from Revdex.com.

Sincerely,

I put up a post on Craigslist asking if anyone had any rooms available. The ONLY place I put any ad up was on Craigslist. Now I am getting ridiculous amounts of spam texts from different numbers. All of the texts say the same thing, they copy and paste a piece of my original post and say "heres my link" which goes directly to this ** companies website. This is not going to fly, and if it continues there will be further action. I strongly urge people not to use this company, purely because their business model is complete **. Whoever is replying to these complaints for this company makes me sick. Are you seriously correcting the spelling of a customer that submitted a bad review of your company? I am completely astonished by the this business, I would like nothing more to see them in court and watch them go bankrupt.

Response:

This complaint, is not as black and white as Rosie C[redacted] claims. She has signed up and upgraded her account several times. When she first signed up on 6/**/2015 2:53:55 PM she canceled her own subscription on 6/**/2015 4:58:06 PM and did not get renewed at all. She purchased another subscription on */*/2015 4:46:33 PM on 11/*/2015 4:36:14 PM she contacted us because she had created another account and could not figure out why she could not access her messages. we advised her "You created an account on Roomster using [redacted] Login that is linked to [redacted], so click "Login with [redacted]" and make sure you are signed into your [redacted] account that is linked to [redacted] "Without contacting us, she charged us back on the last charge $2*.*5 via [redacted]. We since issued another refund for $2*.*5. The customer states that she is seeking a refund for $80.00, however we only charged her $5*.*0 in renewals, which she has already been refunded, so we consider this matter closed.Had she contacted us directly, the outcome of a refund would have been the same, leaving the Revdex.com time to deal with more important matters.

Review: I was charged for a service that I am not even able to utilize. It was like the minute I paid for it, eveytime I tried to get on the site it wouldnt load. I have tried muliple browsers and forms of trying to get onto roomster.com but everytime I had an issue. There is no easy way to contact them without trying to find their information on their site... that I cannot connect to. This was my last resort to get some kind of resolution to this issue. I am trying to run a business here and paid for a service that is not serving me.Desired Settlement: I want full money back and cancellation of my account. I have plenty of other room share/ renting sites that I utilize as well and dont have to pay for the service with better outcomes then this.

Response:

We have reviewed the complaint from [redacted]. Our site is working perfectly. We have discovered that [redacted] has created two accounts on Roomster using two different login credentials. As you can see she created one account in 2010 and the other in 2015 but she logged into both account on 3/**/2015 using the same ip address, but with different logins credentials, her account using [redacted] login linked to "[redacted]" is the account that she upgraded using [redacted] she has had full and uninterrupted access to that account. This is a typical case of user error & confusion. Its a shame that the Revdex.com must waste time on things like this, when Jessica Wells could have easily contacted us using our 24/7 support help desk. We could have easily straightened this out for her. Our company should not have this derogatory note on our record and if anything we should get an apology from [redacted]. (we have canceled the subscription and issued a full refund despite this being user NOT company error. please see the two accounts with details and last logins below)[redacted] Login)HaveShare [redacted]

Review: I signed up for a 5.95 membership. They billed this, then charged me another 29.95, which overdrew my bank account. I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

[Your Answer Here]This company was never authorized to bill me the renewal of 29.95. Of course they are going to refund that. In addition they need to refund the 30.00 bank overdraft fee that resulted. They were told this by me and chose not to address or rectify the situation.

Review: I signed up for the $5.95 3 trial subscription and never authorized for my account to be charged $29.95 for a full subscription account. I only signed up for the $5.95 because I had to to be able to read the messages in the inbox. There was no disclosure stating that my account would auto renew for $29.95 after the 3 days was up. I have already contacted their "customer support" online team which is a joke. I want someone to contact me about my refund immediately!Desired Settlement: I want my money back my account to be canceled. I no longer want to use roomster services.

Review: Yesterday I was on craigslist looking through ads for a roommate. I came across these 2 adds that definitely seemed to good to be true and were 1 block from each other in an area that is very popular called Lakeview a neighborhood in Chicago with advertisement of the rent being particularly low for this area but I thought what do I have to lose to just text. Once I texted the number's given on the adds I received an automatic message telling me to go to this link [redacted]. When I clicked on the link it took me straight to the registration page for [redacted]. Which I found really odd because another add that I replied to that was listed differently also replied back with a link very similar that once again took you to the registration for [redacted]. I register thinking this is very odd and decide to contact customer support and ask them about the link. They responded with the link is not theirs and they can not help me with a link that is not connected to them. Which is a crock since I just clicked 3 separate adds and they all sent me links connecting to roomster. After I register I start looking for these apartments on the site and they are know where to be found. I found one post that interested me because the price once again was a really low rate for what they had disclosed. I try to contact this person and of course now I have to pay 14.95. I call this person and they seemed pretty shady and then gave me a completely different address then what was listed in the add itself. I went and canceled my subscription right away within the first 24 hours of the purchase but I also think I should be completely refunded. Completely unethical!Desired Settlement: I would like to be refunded and some sort of notification from roomster themselves that they canceled the subscription since now I read this has happened to so many people before me.

Review: Hi there. I attempted to pay for a three day trial for roomster.com in order to check it out. See if it is worth my time. I clicked on the terms of condition as "agreed"...terms reading "Thank you for upgrading your account and purchasing one of our Roomster subscriptions. Your subscription can be canceled at any time. Canceling the subscription will end scheduled renewals. Charges on your billing statement will appear as ROOMSTER CORP. There is a link to manage your subscription right on this page." While this does say what to do to cancel the subscription it does not say that the 3 day trial would turn into a $30 charge after the three days were up. It also does not state that my 3 day trial was part of any renewal process. Why would I attempt to cancel my 3 day trial. I wanted it. I was charged today 08/**/13 $29.00 for a renewal of services. I immediatly cancelled the subscription and proceeded to contact the company via phone to receive a refund. When Calling the number provided on the website it states that all billing issues are handled through customer service online only. I sent a message online and recieved this response stating "We would never charge your credit card without authorization and notification. We did do this several times & do have records of this. You have successfully canceled your subscription. All future billing has ended. You can view your billing history by clicking here. Thank you. When you upgraded to a subscription You were required to check off on the terms of use TWICE in order to create an account with us. The subscription policy is also stated on all these pages: 1. Terms of use [see screenshot] 2. Credit card authorization page [see screenshot] 3. The subscription tab on account page 4. FAQ page We state on your billing history page when your subscription is being renewed, so that you can end your subscription before a new billing cycle begins. We also sent you a message right here in this helpdesk and an email notification to [redacted], right after you paid on "8/**/2013 10:33:42 AM" telling you to cancel, and how: "Your subscription can be canceled at any time. There is a link to manage your subscription right on this page." I would like my money refunded to me but they have not refunded it to me. I have no used their services for this and ended the subscription the moment I saw it charged on my cardDesired Settlement: I have not received any message back since I pointed out the flaws in the terms of agreement. I have attempted to contact them three more time. I feel like I am being scammed out of my money. It also seems odd that they do not allow a live person to talk to their customers via phone to get issues resolved.

Review: I subscribed to roomster.com 3 day subscription for $5.95 so that I could send and see messages sent to me regarding renting a room or apartment. I just went to check my bank account and they have now charged me $29.95 for a 30 day subscription. First, there is no phone number to call them to discuss receiving a refund. When you click on the button on their website to contact them, it gives you an error. I then went to the internet to see if I could find their phone number another way and stumbled up many complaints from other people that had the same thing happen to them. The company claims that they do not hide the fact that they will charge you $29.95 if you do not cancel your subscription in 3 days, but I do not remember reading anything that clearly stated that. They also claim that they send you a warning email that you need to cancel your subscription or you will be charged $29.95, which I never received. They are deceitful in their business practices and I would like a full refund of $29.95. Any indication that you would have to pay this if you did not cancel your subscription is carefully hidden in their terms and I am apparently not the only one who was fooled by this deceitful practice.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund of $29.95 on my debit card that I provided to roomster.com

Response:

As we originally concluded the customer did in fact create two separate accounts using [redacted] login 1) [redacted] 2)[redacted] this was the source of confusion for this member. She did not know which account she was logging into! She wrongly asserted that she did not have access, and we did not send her emails confirming her purchases. She was incorrect, and jumped to the wrong conclusions about how our company operates. We have issued the customer a refund for the 29.95 charge. We have full ip login and verification history for both accounts showing that she did in fact create the two accounts with two [redacted] logins, and accessed both accounts. The customer knows that this is the case because our records also show that she logged into the correct account that did have the billing ([redacted]) several times since our response to the Revdex.com.[redacted]User ID:[redacted] Name:[redacted] Email:[redacted]Date:2/**/2015 [redacted]User ID:[redacted] Name:[redacted] Email:[redacted]Date:2/**/2015 [redacted]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.Since Roomster feels the need to be insulting andcondescending in their response, I will make my response. Okay, so I had twoRoomster accounts and accidentally logged into the wrong one to voice mycomplaint. Yes, I logged into both accounts then after reading your response tofigure out what was going on. That does not justify how you charge people forsomething they never intended to purchase and without their consent. My storyis the SAME EXACT story of hundreds of people that I read about online. Thereason that I immediately came to the Revdex.com to make a complaint is severalreasons. First, when I discovered that they had charged me $29.95 for a fullmonth service after I only intended to sign up for a 3 day service at $5.95, Iwas confused. So I went to their website and found no phone number to call anddiscuss this. Next, I tried to chat with their 24/7 customer service channeland received an error. Then I decided to do a little online research. I wasshocked to read that I was not the only one this happened to. I read how otherpeople were treated when they finally were able to track down a phone number tothe company and it was horrendous. I didn’t even want to try after reading theunsuccessful attempts of hundreds of other people. I am wondering why Roomsterhas about 146 complaints on the Revdex.com website then with the same exact story ifthey are so upfront and honest about their policy and people are fully awarethey will be billed for a full month’s service if they do not cancel within 3days of signing up? Pretty interesting. Oh, and let me mention the next bit ofinteresting information I read online. Many people complained that they foundan ad online for an apartment to rent, texted the phone number, and got aresponse to go to roomster.com to find out more information about the property. Then, when you do go online to look, you can’t find that property anywhere. Soyou text the person back and tell them that you can’t find the property. Thisis how they SCAM you into even going onto their website. This is exactly whathappened to me. Anyways, thanks for the refund. And for being rude about it andtrying to make it seem like I am just a confused and dishonest person trying toget one over on you. I am pretty sure that your reputation will soon catch upwith you and lastly, you should be ashamed of your business practices.

Sincerely,

Review: I had a subscription with this company and called back on February [redacted] to cancel it. The on line operator wrote to me that when my subscription ended they will not charge me again they will prompt me to subscribe than I will authorize the payment myself . But, today on March [redacted] they charge again without even asking. than when I wanted to talk to a live customer service operator they don't even have a phone number on their site. I called [redacted] to cancel any payment for this corporation and they provide me with a phone number, when I called, a recorded message said I can only leave comments. I went back to Roomster customer service site to send them 2 more messages about canceling my account and getting credit for the unauthorized charge, and I received a message saying the same thing "thank you for canceling your subscription. All future billing has ended. You will have full access to your Rooster mail box for the duration of your paid period, but it will not be renewed . when your paid time period is up, you will prompted to upgrade again. you may purchase a new subscription any time in the future. the same message they sent me back in Feb. [redacted]. 2015 but, I got charge on March [redacted] 2015.Desired Settlement: I want my [redacted] account to be credited back for that unauthorized charge.

Sincerely,

Review: I signed up for the 3 day use of Roomster here in Portland OR under my sign in off my google sign in [redacted]. Admittedly my math error had me cancel the three day use bye less than an hour, but I did promptly cancel my active, non-free account. They automatically charged me ~$29.00 for another 30 days after the paid active status was already canceled ostensibly charging me ~$29.00 for less then 1 hours 'use'. I wrote a polite letter requesting a refund, offering willing further use of their site on future occasions for a good business practice gesture now.

I received vaguely worded that sounded like I was going to be refunded and thing were going to be made right, but once you read between the parsed lines, that it was a smoke screen. I've never in memory asked for my bank to refused/dispute a charge, but I did this time, to no avail.

I'm left to file a complaint here and permanently cancel my account with Roomster, which was minimally useful anyhow.

I will actively turn those I know seeking roommates or housing options to turn away from RoomsterDesired Settlement: I would like to be refunded my $29.95. I did not use the account during that under 1 hours subscription time, fyi.

I would like them to consider changing their policies around auto-charging and refunding good faith attempts and canceling broadly on time, particularly when there 3 day subscriptions end. The little money they would loose would be way outweighed bye the good will they would foster and Ill Will they would reduce.

thanks for your time.

Review: On 9-*-13 I authorized Roomster to charge my credit card $5.95 for a 3 day term with their online service. (I was ok with this) On 9-**-13 I authorized them again to charge my credit card $5.95 for a 3 day term with their online service. (I was ok with this) On 9-**-13 I received a misleading notification from Roomster indicating that someone had an interest in renting my house in the Detroit area (Rochester Hills, MI). Roomster does not allow you to see who's interested in renting your house until you pay them. Based on Roomster's email I authorized them to charge my credit card $5.95 for a 3 day term so I could reply to the person whom Roomster said had an interest in renting my house. The inquiry that Roomster said was interested in renting my house was someone interested in renting a place in the Washington DC area (100's) of miles from my house. I would have never authorized them to charge my credit card if I new the information from them would be misleading like this. I immediately notified them regarding what had happened and requested a refund for this $5.95. Someone from their customer service department responded through email saying that I should not have received the Washington DC inquiry and they were going to look into it. On 9-**-13 they charged my credit card $29.95 without my authorization. I had not used their service nor intended to use it since I received the misleading email from them on 9-**-13. They refuse to refund my credit card for the $5.95 transaction on 9-**-13 centered around completely misleading information and the $29.95 unauthorized charge on 9-**-13 despite explaining to them I had no interest or intention of using their services after 9-**-13.Desired Settlement: Refund my credit card for the 9-**-13 charge of $5.95 based on the misleading information and for the 9-**-13 unauthorized charge of $29.95.

Sincerely,

Review: This company allowed me to purchase a 14-day subscription. No time during this purchase did they mention that a cancellation of my account was REQUIRED or I would be automatically charged for full membership- 30 bucks a month- except for a small section in the "fine print" in the terms of use. Of course, since the advertisement said NOTHING about automatic renewals, when I scanned the terms of use I was not looking for any such term, and I did not see it.... I do wonder whether it really is there during the sign up process. Moreover, I was NOT NOTIFIED when the charges were made, no further authorization was given to this company. I only noticed when I looked more closely at my credit card statements. It appears from research that this has happened to many people. What a scam. They take advantage of people's trust in the "face" agreement and the fact that people usually scan through terms of use when there does not seem anything false or unusual about the advertisement. It is obvious this is intentional, otherwise a notification would be given when further charges were made, or a warning would be given during the actual purchase. Finally, they have terrible customer service- essentially non-existent.Desired Settlement: I would like my money back. I never wanted full membership, I only wanted the 14 day purchase I made originally. So the two automatic renewals should be recredited or refunded somehow. I also wish there were some method of forcing this company to improve their practices and make the conditions of the purchase more CLEAR and OBVIOUS to the purchaser.
