Review: I cancelled my Roomster account over two months ago but continue to be charged the monthly fee. I have written multiple e-mails through the online help center, but receive no response. It is not possible to contact anyone to speak to personally as the business phone states all issues are handled through their online help center. How can I stop the payments from being charged to my credit card as Roomster refuses to honor the cancellation of my account?Desired Settlement: I want Roomster to stop charging my credit card account the monthly fee, as I cancelled my account over two months ago. I would also like my credit card to be credited to extra fees taken by Roomster after the cancellation of my account.

Response:

This individual has created several account on Roomster using many different email and login credentials. This is a typical example of a customer who is confused. We found an account under the name "[redacted]" using email address "[redacted]" This customer has canceled her own subscription on this account on 6/*/2013 1:06:48 PM no other action is required. She was contacting helpdesk in an account that did not have any billing under the name "[redacted]" with email address [redacted]Its too bad that a customer has to make untrue and false statements to the Revdex.com. We consider this matter closed and a waste of the Revdex.com's time.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

The information shard br through Roomster rep. is not accurate. My name is [redacted], and I go also by [redacted]. I have only a [redacted] email account and do not have a [redacted] account. My email is [redacted]. When I attempted to contact Roomster I made them aware that the account I was trying to cancel was either an account in my name or an account in my daughter's name, [redacted]. I could not remember what name we opened an account in. My daughter was looking for an apartment in Boston, which she found so we no longer need the Roomster account. I also gave Roomster the last four digits of my [redacted] credit card account which they continue to charge though I have attempted on more than one occasion to cancel. I am very frustrated that Roomster is still not responding to the issue. I simply want them to stop charging me for an account I have tried to cancel on numerous occasions. This can be easily resolved if I am able to speak with a customer service rep at Roomster. Their response is totally inaccurate. My name is not spelled [redacted], I do not have a [redacted] account, and I am still being charged for an account I have attempted to close. I need your continued help to resolve this issue.

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Response:

Finally!! after all of this you tell us that the account was in your daughter's name!!! Why not start with that? We have found account #[redacted] under the name [redacted] using email address "[redacted]" the account was created 5/**/2015 8:56:36 AM from ip address cpe-[redacted] she logged in and deleted her account on 8/**/2015 5:50:35 AM why didn't she just contact us from our 24/7 customer service Help desk?So all billing has ended and the account was deleted by her on 8/**/2015 5:50:35 AM from ip addres[redacted]ok?

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

I did send e-mails to the help desk at Roomster asking them to check for an account in my name or my daughter's name, gave both names, and also gave the last 4 digits of my credit card, which was used to pay for the account. However, Roomster never responded to those e-mails or this issue would have been resolved some time ago. If my credit card is no longer charged, then I will consider the issue resolved. I cannot know whether the issue has been satisfactorily resolved until I confirm that I am no longer being charged the fee on my credit card. I will not know this until I receive my next credit card statement. I am very dissatisfied with Roomster as a result of the lack of response from the help desk to my emails and the inability to speak to a customer service representative directly.[redacted]

Review: I signed up for a $5.95 3 day subscription. Three days later they charged me $29.95 for a FULL month subscription! They charged me again on 3/** the amount of $29.95 for their subscription which I did authorize or use! These are very shady business practices.Desired Settlement: I would like to be refunded the unauthorized charges of two $29.95 for a total of $59.90 that I have been charged for two months that I did not sign up for and that I did not want or use and ensure that I am not charged again.

Thank you.

Response:

we had previously issued a pro-rated refund ($16.22) when the customer contacted us, refunding the remainder of the subscription time. We have since issued full refunds for both $29.95 renewals. total refunded amount = $59.90Just to be clear the customer did authorize a subscription, which we did properly advise could be canceled at anytime. Refunds have been issued today, expect to see them in your account within 2 business days.we consider this matter closed.

Review: I ran a ad on this website for a room I had for rent, I gave them the ok to charge my card for $9.95, I later learned from checking my account that they roomster, charged my card for $29.95 an amount I did not give permission to charge my card, I contacted roomster by e mail they told me that they would refund me a prorated amount, which I have never received.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of my full amount and for roomster to stop sending me e mails.

Review: I signed up for a free account on roomster. After a few days I wished to upgrade to a 2 week trial for $14.95. Today is the day after the 2 week trial is up and I have noticed on my credit card an unauthorized charge of $29.95. I contacted Roomster and asked them to refund my money as I did not wish to resubscribe. I received multiple responses but none of which tried to alleviate my issue. I even asked if they could pro rate my account as to only charge me for the 1 day past the 2 weeks I initially signed up for.Desired Settlement: Refund

Review: I contacted to support and said that I thought that 30 day subscription will start tomorrow, but Roomster did not send any reminder about the process of charging for 30 day subscription before 15 day trial ended. Other website always remind me about it. Roomster did nothing. I asked to give me the refund for 30 day subscription. Customer responded that I can click cancel membership. Even not mentioning of the refund. I cancelled on first day of 30 day of subscription. I don't need this rest of 29 days to use Roomster website. No!Desired Settlement: Refund $29.95 in my [redacted].

To Whom It May Concern:We received a Revdex.com customer complaint letter from user [redacted]His statement that we didn’t give him a refund is not correct, because we have issued a refund on 2/**/2016, the same day he contacted us. Review: I signed up for service a month ago to look for a new roommate on August [redacted] and paid them the first month for $29.95. I used the service for about a week and was really dissatisfied with it. So, following the instructions that I received when I signed up, went online and cancelled service. This month on the [redacted], not even 30 days I notice a second charge of $29.95 pending with my bank account. So I contacted Roomster by E-mail, since evidently don't take phone calls and requested that they close the account and refund my money. They refused, and told me that I was warned when I signed up, quoting policies that I've already read. This shocked me, because today I didn't even think that there were any businesses out the unwilling to do a refund for services not rendered. The point is, that I cancelled service after one week. What are they doing billing me again? Because there is a company that now has my card information and chooses to bill it any time they want to I've cancelled the card to protect myself. Automatic payments should never be the "default" method of payment. This is the same as robbery/theft.Desired Settlement: They should send me a refund. But I think it would help everyone more if they are forced to change their business practice of forcing "automatic payments" upon their subscribers on enrollment.

Review: Where there is this much smoke, there's usually fire - and in this case, Roomster Corp. conceals an automatic renewal policy deep within their "terms of service". The website is a roommate matching service that requires a paid subscription in order to read any messages you have received from other users. I paid $5.95 for a 3 day period of full membership. After this 3 day period, I cancelled and did not use the service or even visit the website at all. Suddenly, I notice on my bank statement that $29.99 has been withdrawn from my account. Like dozens of others before me who have reported the same problem, their customer service agent informed me the "automatic renewal" policy was concealed in the fine print of terms of service agreements that the user is required to accept.

This policy of displaying a total of $5.95 while sneaking an extra $89.85 onto fine print, is flatly deceptive and unethical. Upon contacting the company via their website, they sent a boilerplate response listing the locations on which they reference this policy - such as the fine print mentioned above, the FAQ and a special tab in the user's account page - the latter two being pages that the unsuspecting duped "subscriber" often has no occasion to visit.

The fact that internet commerce is so popular and successful, is a testament to how rare such deliberately deceptive policies are.Desired Settlement: If Roomster Corp. is confident in the product they offer, they should have no objection to adopting ethical billing practices - and not concealing a subscription valued at $89.85 over 3 months in fine print, would be an excellent place to start.

Review: I chose a 5.95 subscription for 3 days use of the site. I did not see any notification of automatic renewal. Sincerely,

Review: I registered with Roomster today and authorized a $5.95 fee for three days of email access. Part of the agreement is that if I don't cancel before three days are up, Roomster will automatically renew the service and charge me again. When I returned to the site a few hours later and tried to log in, I was informed that my email address is not found. This is an email address that I created specifically for my apartment search, so I know it is the one I used for Roomster. I have since read online that Roomster is considered a scam site that makes many fraudulent charges to credit cards. I have contacted my credit card company to request a block on any charge requests, but I am fearful that Roomster will try to charge my card. I tried to contact customer service at Roomster, but lo and behold, the only way to do so is by first logging in, which I'm being told I can't do. The only phone number provided, which I had to find via [redacted], is just an answering machine for comments, with an outgoing message saying that all complaints are dealt with online. I want to be sure my card is not charged beyond the $5.95 that I authorized. Thank you.Desired Settlement: No further charges to my card.

Review: I purchased a 3-day pass for Roomster's services for $5.95, but had no clue that I would be automatically charged $29.95 after the 3-days were up. Roomster failed to notify me about this charge. I have received over numerous emails from Roomster since singing up with them, so this is not an issue of them not having my contact info but rather an issue of deliberate miscommunication and intent to take advantage of customers without them knowing.

Furthermore, Roomster is the self-proclaimed "largest and biggest online community for rommate match and search." (this is taken word for word from their website; notice the spelling error and redundancy) False. [redacted] provided me with dozens of roommate matches and is clearly the larger community. Though this is a solely a complain about service and billing, I would implore the Revdex.com to investigate Roomster's false advertising and malpractices. I tried contacting Roomster after being charged against my knowledge, but it is nearly impossible to find a phone number on their website. The only number I found is a bogus voicemail box for comments (i.e. no real person on the other end).

Desired Settlement: I would like to be refunded $29.95 back to my debit card, as Roomster failed to provide an explanation and notification of this charge. Also, I would like to be refunded $5.95 back to my debit card, as Roomster failed to provide a service they claimed to do. Review: I signed up on this website looking for a room to rent or share in a home. I authorized them to list my profile a 3 day period for $5.95. I noticed after two months that they have been charging my credit card at the amount of $29.95 per month. I was charged $59.90 for a service I have never ever used. They do not have a 800 number, you need to email and wait for a response to get a reply. I never asked for a membership...I only asked them to post my profile for 3 days and agreed to pay you $5.95 for the service. What they did was COMPLETELY unethical and illegal.

I'm sorry but I find it impossible to believe that random 'customers' would post a link to a website(Roomshortlist.com) that is only used to redirect to Roomster.com

Review: I signed up for the 3 day trial with Roomster at 5.95. They give you the option to sign up for 1, 3, or 30 days. But they don't make it obvious you are also signing up for a subscription. If I choose to only sign up for 3 days instead of 30 why would I want an additional 30 days after my trial (unannounced). I'm sure there's fine print in the initial sign up that mentions a 30 day subscription, but if i'm not signing up for the 30 days to begin with and I only want 5 why would you assume I want another month.

Then I decided to try to contact the company with their 24/7 button which was impossible, no phone number just messaging through their website. They got back to me with a generic message they post to everyone who has the same complaint (you'd think if everyone is complaining about the same thing they would try to fix the problem). Their generic response is that they wouldn't charge a card without my permission, but they also are not refunding me for something I'm not using. I asked for a prorated refund for the remaining 29 days (i cancelled my trail 24 hours too late).

They don't make it known that you were charge for your subscription. They put the initial receipt in your online account, but not the receipt for your subscription. They email you confirming payment for the initial trail fee but they don't email you when they charge you the larger amount for a full month. I understand how subscriptions work and normally you should be notified and not have to wait till your bank statement tells you they have been charged.Desired Settlement: A prorated refund for the 29 days of service I did not use and requested to be cancelled.

I was not made aware of this when I initially signed up. Of course, the phone number they provided had a brief automated message redirecting us back to their stupid website for assistance, no live person. How convenient. What a bunch of crooks! Apparently, many people have complained about them. I don't underestand why this company is still operational since 2004 and continuing to scam people! Please shut them down!Desired Settlement: Please refund my $29.95 back
