I am a formal student of Axia College of University of Phoenix/Apollo Group; start date Dec 2008 to March 2011. I obtained an AA in health care Admin/Pharmacy Practice, because Alison Voltmer; academic counselor assured me that my college would be paid for by a Pell Grant due to my Status, I would be able to take the PTCE, job placement, and I would be able to transfer my credits to a school with a PharmD program. I was deceived in this matter, only to accrue an estimate of $86,000 worth of tuition after was is said and done including 6% interest, without a job for a while in this field, a worthless 6 ½ year education just to be a pharmacy technician. Along with that; I am 33 years old and unable to buy house due to this debt nor will I ever be able to obtain a career as a pharmacist as I have dreamed to be without financial help. This was my goal for my family and me to better our future. Per the State Board of Pharmacy; the degree I obtained through this school to become a pharmacy Technician was incorrect. I had to go back to school in 2011 to 2014 to finally become a CPHT, but Now I am in debt, I am not a pharmacists, I can’t buy a house due to False hopes by Axia College. This school should be shut down for destroying people’s life like mine and destroying my life and future, as well as, my children’s future and investments.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. The university of Phoenix increased the cost of the courses in my graduate certificate program from $810 to $2200 - a nearly 200% increase. I started the program in June 2014 and took each of the 4 courses consecutively. I was not notified of the price increase until October, as I was finishing the 3rd of the 4 courses required for the certificate program. I said I would in no way consent to $2200 per course.Without my consent, they proceeded to report to the Department of Education that they were providing me (and the other students in the program) with several thousand dollars in "assistance" - the difference between the original cost of the courses and their new inflated cost. The Cost of Attendance (COA) on my July award letter was about $15,000, the COA on my November award letter reflecting their new rates is nearly $76,000 (see attachments). This is for a 4 course online certificate program. The University of Phoenix appears to be fraudulently reporting a significant amount of student "assistance" to the Department of Education and engaging in some very creative bookkeeping.
Regards,
[redacted]

I attended the University of Phoenix back in 2007 and when I first started getting everything in order I was told that I could apply for financial aid, but that it would not cover all the cost. I was told that I needed to take out student loans even though a typical semester consist of 4 courses. The Associates program has a total of 8 courses a yeah and somehow financial aid was not going to cover the expense. I asked my financial counselor why I needed student loans and he told me that it would be free money since I was not working at the time. This school preys on unemployed students and even more so if your a veteran. I am now stuck with $51,000 in student loans that I never needed in the first place! When I enrolled in my bachelor's program I told them I have the post 9-11 GI Bill and the guy I spoke to insisted that I get student loans. I honestly think that this school gets some kind of kick backs on the amount of student loans they process. If your a veteran what ever you do don't fall for the student loan scam, you don't need them!

The quality of the education that this school offers is worrisome. I believe that you can get a good education from this school if you, as a student, set out to do so. However, many of the classes I have taken here in the past three years allows students to pass classes with minimal effort. The group projects are a nightmare because the other students often do not care about their grades and the instructors will not grade projects individually unless the other team members contribute absolutely nothing. Often times I would find myself up until the deadline for team assignments trying to do my team members sections just to save my own grade. Unfortunately, the quality of the courses offered at university of phoenix are not the only issue. The academic and financial advisors are very unprofessional and do not seem to care about addressing student concerns. My current financial advisor has asked for an out of pocket payment and refuses to even acknowledge my questions about my loan options on at least three different occasions. My academic advisor also refuses to address the problem. The only options I am given are to pay the whole sum of money or to give them my credit card number and be charged the cost plus over 50% interest. I understand and accept the fact that I will have to make out of pocket payments, but I will probably end up transferring to a different school that is worth the financial setback.

After exhausting all collection efforts, including outside agencies, the balance was charged off and credit reported on December 20, 2012. This caused your account to reflect a $0.00 balance on the enclosed itemized account history. We find the campus provided guidance consistent with the status of your account at the time of your inquiries. The University has reviewed the validity of your debt and the documented efforts to collect prior to any consideration to report your account to the appropriate credit bureaus. The results have confirmed the Universities actions and found that there is no violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, or the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The University is very aware of its requirements to stay in compliance with these laws and takes careful measures to ensure the accuracy of its reporting. The University maintains the current balance of $2,861.22 is valid and correct. If you would like to resolve the balance or discuss resolution options, please contact Financial Business and Consumer Solutions at ###-###-####. We are unable to authorize release of your transcripts until the balance is paid. When your balance is paid in full, the appropriate credit agencies will be notified; however, the entry will remain on your credit report as a paid charge off for the amount of time as designated by the credit agencies. We would also like to address the concerns you outlined regarding the Associate of Arts with a concentration in Information Technology/Networking (AAIT/N) degree program you completed with the University of Phoenix. As outlined in your grievance you state that the University never advised you that a criminal record would prohibit employment in the field of IT. We have reviewed your student record and research of the available information does not reveal that at any point you were provided false or misleading information regarding the curriculum for the AAIT/N degree program. Additionally, records do not reflect that you were provided a guarantee of employment eligibility upon the completion of your degree program with the University of Phoenix. As further outlined in your grievance you expressed concerns regarding your ability to use your University of Phoenix degree to find employment within your chosen field. We regret that you have had a dissatisfying experience while applying for employment utilizing your University of Phoenix degree. However, due to many factors outside of the University’s control, University of Phoenix does not and has not at any time provided job placement guarantees. Please be aware that the University cannot force an employer to hire our students. The University is responsible for program design and the academic integrity of that design. A degree in any field indicates that the student has studied material that is relevant to the field of study, and that those materials are of sufficient rigor and focus to allow the student to succeed in that field. We understand your frustration with the responses from the employment market; however, employer requirements differ between states and entities. As such, students are responsible for considering their goals and electing the degree program they wish to pursue. Campus representatives serve to assist students in degree selection process by responding to student questions, providing information and support in order for students to make an informed decision. Therefore, it is the responsibility of each student to conduct the necessary research, determine job requirements in their chosen field and contact the necessary departments or organizations they wish to work for in order to understand what credentials, certifications and requirements are needed for employment eligibility. As a valued alumnus you continue to have access to a wealth of complimentary career resources provided by UOPX. Horrible experience. I started classes in June 2016 and was assured everything was ok to go in regards to my financial aid. I submitted everything right away and more for verification. They could not have possibly needed anything else. It is now November and still no aid after months and months of requesting updates. Everything I question anything they have to submit a ticket which can take a month to answer. Now I have a message saying I missed the pell grant deadline. This is because my school has dragged their feed and used excused of being busy and understaffed. If I could do things over I would go anywhere but here.
