I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. Although I am not happy with Nicor Gas I don't have the time at holidays to keep pursing Nicor. I am very very unhappy with this business and would like others to know. Nicor Gas decided to replace ALL gas lines on my block and they started in November!  They dug up the street, personal property and made a huge inconvenience for residence during a time of year when people are having company. Also why start work on something during the cold months when you can't pour concrete?  It makes no sense. Now all winter my block must deal with giant holes in the street made my Nicor. It made no sense to run new gas lines from the street to each individual house. The destruction they caused to everyone is enormous. Basically you can't fight a big corporation like Nicor. So they did what they wanted and came on my property and replace the gas line making a 2 ft by 2 ft hole in my patio. This was not even an emergency situation, this work could have waited until Spring. Just horrible what Nicor did. Thank you Nicor Gas for causing chaos and destruction during the only time of year I see my family. Thank you for destroying property and was a really smart choice to do this work. Oh I almost forgot. They dug huge deep holes all around the neighborhood. Very dangerous for children. But nobody cares. So I guess residents have no say what happens to their property they pay taxes and a mortgage on. Just because you have a gas lines means Nicor can do whatever they want to your property...just horrible

I am rejecting this response because:So, there was an error in not notifying me of the balance in 2015, but there's NO possible way that your company couldn't have made an error and NOT cancelled my account upon request in 2013.  I see.  So, because you know you would have a fight on your hand getting money out of the mortgage company as they were responsible for the property at the time, it's easier to penalize your customer of over 20 years (with every account being in a constant state of good standing).  I can't even begin to express my extreme disappointment in this corporation.  Big business wins out again against the little guy, as you maintain the power and the monopoly over the area.  That's a wonderful way to conduct business.

I am rejecting this response because:  the response of the action they did is incorrect.  Nicor did not reconnect all appliances.  That is the whole issue.  NICOR cut off one of the main gas lines.  I had 2 gas lines that supplied gas to my appliances before the meter transfer from inside to outside.  All my gas appliances worked.  When the transfer was done, the only appliance that worked is the furnace and the tech that came out to my house confirmed that I only have gas going through the line feeding the furnace.  The other gas line no longer has gas feeding through it.  I understand that capping is for safety, but you cut my gas off.  I don't understand how this is difficult to understand.  Again, NICOR cut this off without my knowledge or without any notification of this to me, the homeowner.

Thank you for contacting Nicor Gas about your billing concern.  We have reviewed your account and our records show that the billing period of 12/29/15 – 01/27/16 was corrected based on the actual meter reading that was obtained on 02/26/16.  The bill that issued on 01/27/16 was canceled...

and rebilled on your current 02/26/16 bill.  The second page of your bill shows the meter readings used to calculate your bill.  These meter reads are found in the box titled Monthly Energy Profile.  The Account Summary box on the first page of the bill shows that the previous bill was $28.10 and we received payment for this amount on 02/05/16.  Based on the actual meter read on 02/26/16 we had to rebill the previous bill along with the current charges.  The new bill for service from 12/26/15 – 02/26/16 was $162.80.  You were then given credit for the $28.10 you paid bringing your owing balance to $134.70 due by 03/15/16.  We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this may have caused. Thank you for allowing Nicor Gas the opportunity to address your concerns.

You should keep in mind that someone shouldn't need to go to this extent for $20.  Bad customer service when we have no choice on who our gas provider is not the way to do business.

Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding your balance and payment concerns.  We are sorry to hear of the passing of your ex-husband and understand what a difficult time this can be.  We have reviewed your Nicor Gas account and our research provided the following...

information: Service was in Mr. [redacted]’s name at the [redacted] Stone address from 08/21/2006 until 09/28/2016.  The name was changed to The Estate of….. on 10/14/15 when notice was received of Mr. [redacted]’s passing. Gas service was started in your name ([redacted]) as of 09/28/2016 when Nicor Gas received your written request advising service should be in your name. Mr. [redacted] had a second address in his name that ended on 6/03/2016.   After this account closed the final balance was transferred to the [redacted] Stone address on 07/05/2016 because the service was still active in Mr. [redacted]’s name. The disputed amount of $453.26 was removed from your account when we received the divorce decree.  At this time, the only unresolved issue is the refund check of $87.11. We have cancelled the refund check and moved the funds to your Nicor Gas account.  Your account now has a credit of $87.11 and you will see this credit on the bill that issues on 01/27/17.  Again we are sorry to hear of your loss and thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.

Safety is the number one priority at Nicor Gas for both our customers and our employees while striving to inconvenience our customer as little as possible.   I reviewed your account and our records show Nicor Gas arrived at 4:34 p.m. and completed your gas service restoral at 5:07 p.m.

We apologize for the confusion and understand your frustration.  Your payments were not declined; our records show three separate transactions initiated by you requesting the payment amount to be deducted.  Two of these requests were completed through our website and 12 minutes later there was a phone call to our customer service department and the payment information was provided to the customer service representative.  Any customer that initiates a payment that results in a credit on an account is required to wait 10 days before the credit will be refunded. As a result of your initiating the payments we will refund the credit that is on the account at the time of the refund request.  Again, we apologize for this inconvenience.
