Appliance Repairman Reviews (%countItem)

On March 12th 2019, my tenant at my rental property informed me that the dryer wasn't drying the clothes, so I called Appliance Repair Man - website: www.appliancerepairman.ca
After speaking with customer service they said they would need a credit card to charge a $80 service fee just to diagnose the issue. If I decided to use their services, they would waive the $80 fee. The technician came out to do the repair. While at the house he called me to inform me that he needs to order a new part and it would cost $280 + labour. Due to the fact that my tenant just had a baby and needed the dryer to dry the clothes, I agreed to pay it. After the technician fixed it, he advised me that I have a 31 day warranty on parts and service. They charged me $502.85 on my *** on March 13th, 2019. On April 9th, my tenant informed me that the dryer wasn't working again and it was the same issue - dryer wasn't drying the clothes. That same day - April 9th, I called the office to inform them that I'm under warranty and that I want the dryer fixed. On April 17th the technician came and fixed the dryer. Then, on May 9th, my tenant contacted me again stating that the dryer isn't drying the clothes again. It's the same issue as before. On May 9th, I called the office asking for them to send out a technician again. The rep on the phone said she needed to verify it with her warranty team and they would call me back within 1 day. As of today - May 13th, I didn't hear back from them, so I called them this morning to follow up. The customer service rep said that they would have to charge me a service fee for the technician to go out and check what's wrong with the dryer, then they would give a discount after the diagnostic check. I informed them that I'm still under warranty, as I was told that I have 31 days warranty after each repair. The customer service rep said her supervisor wouldn't authorize it and I'd have to pay again. I told her that I will be going to the Revdex.com because of this. I either want it repaired or I want a refund. She told me to go ahead and that she is sorry for the poor experience. She said her boss won't support sending a technician to fix it, and won't honour the warranty.

Desired Outcome

I would like them to complete the job that I paid them $502.85 to complete - repair the dryer. They need to honour their warranty.

I called Appliance Repairman to repair our *** dishwasher (***) which was leaking water onto the floor. I was quoted a price of $80 to assess the problem. Repairman arrived on April 19, 2019. The initial quote of $80 became $280 for labour to assess the "Main Board and Watering System". (I questioned why there was this difference, and the repairman stated that it was the company that was charging three hours labour for the visit; he then provided a "$15 discount"). Why he had to assess the main board is beyond me, as I told him we had mice, and it should have taken 30 seconds to bend down to see that it was the hose that was leaking. At any rate, for $265 "labour" he assessed that the drain hose in fact needed to be replaced, and stated that that would cost an additional $255.78, but that he would have to come back as he did not have the part with him. I should also note that although he informed me that the reason it would cost so much is because it is an actual *** part, the exact *** Part on-line costs only $19.35. By this time, having paid $265 in "labour costs", I felt trapped and pressured to agree to complete the repair. He then returned on April 26, 2019 and installed the drain hose. So bottom line is, for a part which costs $19.35 and takes maybe 15 minutes to install, I was charged a total of $588.48.

Desired Outcome

Given the number of similar complaints I see filed against this company, ideally I would like a partial refund of the amount paid. First of all the difference between the initial telephone quote of $80 and the $265 actually charged for the first visit, and then a more reasonable charge for the part which costs only $19.95 online instead of the $255.78 which was actually charged. Labour costs should also be reduced, given that an assessment of the problem should have taken no more than ten minutes since mice had bitten through the drain hose and the issue should therefore have been obvious, and then installation of a new drain hose really shouldn't take more than 15 minutes by a competent repairman.

I contacted Appliance Repairman to come out to fix my microwave/hood fan, I was told there was a fee of $80 for diagnosis and if I were to proceed with the repair the $80 would be waived and a repair fee charged. The repairman came to my home on 5/5/19 took a look at my appliance and said he would be able to repair it without any additional parts for $360. He insisted I pay prior and initial an invoice which he locked away. After a few moments tinkling with the microwave he told me he needed an additional part that would cost $540 plus taxes plus $100 to bring a 2nd repair man to help him. I rebutted and reminded him of what he advised prior, he kept saying it's not his fault. I called the company to complain and was told they would have a manager call the next day. I called back several times with no manager available to assist. I received a call 8/5/19 from a manager saying she cant do anything and putting the blame on me.

Desired Outcome

I am willing to pay the $80, to the company for having the repairman come out, he however, misdiagnosed the microwave and misled me to believe he was able to fix the appliance. I have essentially paid $360 for this person to come to my home and pull the facade off of my microwave; my appliance is still not working. Had he not said he was going to need any additional parts, I would have declined the service and purchased a new microwave, which would be significantly cheaper than the cost this company is asking me to pay.

Saturday May 4th at approximately 11 30 am I called this company at *** regarding an issue with my dryer not producing any heat. The servicemen showed up and we discussed the issue and I had mentioned that the week before I had problems with the power supply to the dryer but that it had seemed to resolve itself. He took measurements of the power supply and mentioned that they were not what they should be and went on to do some more work with the dryer.

When he had diagnosed the problem he said that he needed to refurbish the main board and the heating system as they were not communicating properly and also refurbish the power terminal. He said he was very confident that no parts would be necessary and that the cost would be $280 plus tax for this work and the dryer would be good as new.

I was hesitant but he assured me the unit would last for many years to come with this service so I agreed.

After some time (30-45 minutes) he brought me down to the basement to show the dryer and mentioned that he had done what he had said he would but that the problem was at the power supply (plug) and it wasn't giving the dryer enough power. He commented that now at least I know what the problem is.

When he said this I mentioned that I already knew there might be a problem with the plug and that he had sort of confirmed with his multimeter reading very early on. He then asked me to pay him which I outright refused to do. I don't even know if he actually did anything and it certainly didn't rectify the problem. I still didn't have a working dryer and he was expecting to be paib the 4280 plus tax.

I noticed that the dryer was not plugged in and the exhaust was not hooked up so I question how he tested the dryer.

At this point, I have a bill for $280 plus tax and a threat of collections and still no working dryer.

the website is www.appliancerepairman.ca and their email is ***@***

The service tech was *** and my invoice number is ***

They even have on the contract " The appliance was left in a working condition and this was demonstrated to me." There is a spot for a signature by me but this was not brought up at all. The appliance did not work!

I have the bill if you would like to see a copy.

Desired Outcome

I said billing adjustment but I just want them to forget about the bill they gave me and be done with it. I want to make sure they do not take this to collections. If this isn't possible I want them to make sure I get my dryer fixed and working and at that point I will gladly pay. when you call someone to fix your dryer, they only get paid when there is a working dryer when the job is done. The reality is that I have no idea if they did any work on the dryer and if it works or not. I am not willing to pay for that kind of service. When the service tech left I called customer service and they said collections was the normal route for them and that they would have another member of the team call me Monday.

Hi there,

I am writing to regarding "services" performed at my home on my dryer on Saturday April 27 at ***.

The initial quote was for $80 to do a service call. Upon arrival, the technician (his name was ***) informed me that to properly diagnose the problem, he would have to open the machine at a cost of $280. I stupidly agreed and signed his form, not realizing at the time that this is not a standard charge for repair companies. I spoke with another company who informed me the $80 service fee covers this.

After the diagnosis, *** informed me that I need $669.88 of new parts. I said no thanks. He said the dryer would work for now but that I need the parts eventually. He assured me that he fixed the dryer, and that the dryer would work temporarily until I could order the parts. I reluctantly paid the $280. After he left the dryer was still broken!

On the invoice it states he serviced the heating system. I looked again, and he wrote on the invoice the heating system WAS NOT broken (but it is?).

He said he "did his best" and the company sent an email with that exact wording. But the dryer remains broken.

After doing some research online, I noticed the company has literally the worst ratings and reviews that I've ever read about a company. Every review calls the company a *** and I believe it. ***. It's just totally dishonest ripping people off and leaving them with broken appliances.

Desired Outcome

We paid $316.40 to have company show up and leave. They did not fix anything. I understand the need to charge for a service call, and I am willing to pay the initial $80 which we were quoted but I can't understand the rest of the charge. He charged us to repair the dryer but it's still broken.

Charged $282 in an $80 service call April 9th advised completion by April 12th. 5 calls to them and no calls from them to learn that part is on Back order (Though *** advises they have it available)I would like reimbursement over an above the "service" agreement.
Regardless of the day called - you are advised Friday or more likely Monday followup (which NEVER occurs!!)

Desired Outcome

contract cancellation and reimbursement ranging between $190.22 - 280.62

We called Appliance repairman to get an estimate for repairs to our *** washer. On the phone I was told that there would be a service call charge of $80 and if they did repair the machine, the $80 would be deducted from the cost of repair. I agreed to this and booked an appointment. On March 28 a technician arrived to look at the washer. I was not home but my wife let him in and showed him the washer. The dryer was stacked on the washer but the tech made no mention of this being a problem. she left him to attend to it and suddenly heard a load banging noise from the basement. the tech had tried to take the dryer off the washing machine himself but was stuck half way down. My wife moved some stuff for him and told him he shouldn't be alone to do it. she assumed he was just going to check the machine to see what repairs were needed but when she went to see him he presented a bill for $280, plus tax. She was not in agreement as there was no mention of the $80 service fee. there inside a series of phone calls between the tech, the company rep and my wife. the telephone rep threatened my wife with sending a collection agency if she did not pay the $316.40 on the spot. English is not my wife's first language and she was intimidated into signing the bill and giving her ***. The tech claimed that he had done service on the machine but also claimed that he could not fix it and to do so would require $753 worth of parts. He asked her if she could help him put the dryer back up on top of the washer which she refused because it was too dangerous and heavy for her. Unfortunately, I was unavailable at this time but the next day I called to complain about this and get the charges reversed. I left a message for someone to call me back but nobody did. I called a few more times with no result. I called *** to try to have this charge removed but they had no recourse as the bill had been signed and the pin given. I waited for a couple of weeks to see if I would get any response but when none came, I went directly to the address on the bill to confront the management personally about this. The address on the bill turned out to be an empty building in an industrial complex in Concord Ontario. I called the number on the bill and had a very weird conversation with the woman on the phone. she was hesitant to give me any information. I asked if there was a manager in an office that I could speak to and she told me no. She was very rude. I believe this company to be a scam operation. They left my washer unfixed and my dryer scratched and dented, I have pictures if required.

Desired Outcome

I am seeking to get my money back for this non-work that was done through intimidation of my wife. I would also seek that this company be thoroughly investigated as I believe there have been others *** by them as well. They have no office or shop and they are unwilling to discuss my complaint.

I am writing to you about the service I received on Thursday April 18th 2019 by a technician named *** from Appliance Repairman. On the phone the company quoted me $80.00 to start with an additional $30.00 every ten minutes to install and attach my dryer to my washer.

When *** arrived he walked into my apartment and told me it was "too hot." When I asked if he wanted a drink, he said "beer?" I then explained that I didn't have beer at my place and the only drink I had was water. He then stated "only water?" and was upset.

From there, he explained that his work would cost a flat rate of $320.00. When I explained that this was not the deal I discussed over the phone, he said "okay let's say $280.00. I am a slow worker so that is the better deal." Once again, I said "no" and explained that I wanted to be charged the rate they quoted me on the phone.

*** sat down and read instructions for a very long time. I was being charged the entire time he sat down and read the instructions.

He then worked on the dryer for a bit and said he couldn't fully install the dryer because there wasn't a clamp. I explained that I would go to *** and buy one. I said that I'd take an *** there and back and would be back within 20 minutes.

*** then told me that he was "a fast worker" and would be done within twenty minutes (it took him 40 minutes after saying this).

*** was also constantly staring at me and I was home alone and felt very uncomfortable. He often took "breaks." He kept stopping to tell me about things. The first thing he wanted to talk to me about was the importance of a warranty (and he would stop working as he talked). I explained that I wanted him to work and explained that I made sure to get a warranty. He then stopped working to ask me when I booked and I asked him to keep working. He also stopped to ask me how much my washer and dryer cost. He used any excuse or question to waste time.
From there, I knew he wasn't doing anything and stalling time so I sat in a room near the washer and dryer.

He then stopped to ask me personal questions and asked if I owned my condo and asked me what I did for a living.

He also received a call while he was working so he stopped doing his work.

Overall, he "worked" from 8:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. and I made sure people called me afterwards to make sure I was safe. *** took a very long time to pack up his tools and continued to ask me personal questions. He made me feel entirely uncomfortable and it has taken me so long to write this because I was worried I would look like a fool. Then I started thinking about women being stuck at home with him and knew I needed to speak up.

The total cost was $283.80 from 8:30 - 9:30 and it was the most uncomfortable experience I have ever endured. The whole time I was a) being *** on money b) being harassed with needless personal questions c) fearful for my safety.
Please never ever use this company.

Desired Outcome

I am looking for a full refund because of the way I was treated.

On 22/04/2019 a technician from Appliance Repairman came to my home to fix a leak in my washer. He completed work and told me that he fixed 2 leaks under the machine but should it leak again I would need a new outer drum for $909. When I used the machine the next day it still leaked and was worse. I paid $316 for this service.
My husband called Whirlpool (the make of the machine) and they sent a technician on 29/04/2019 and stated that the there were holes in the Bellow (seal of the door) and showed me. I asked about the outer drum and he stated that there is no problem with the outer drum. My machine works fine and no longer leaks since that part was replaced.
I contacted Appliance Repairman by email and sent them pictures of the Bellow as well as a copy of Whirlpool technicians report requesting my money back. They responded last night by accusing me of 'kicking' out their technician after work was completed and not paying the bill. They stated they were sending everything to collections. I emailed back stating they made a mistake and attached a copy of their paid bill. The response was that a manager would call me back to discuss my complaint further. Still waiting for a call.

Desired Outcome

Refund I would like my money back as this company did nothing to fix the problem and tried to sell me a part that I did not need. Their customer service is terrible and they tried to accuse me of not paying a bill. Please help me get my money back as I paid them and *** to get my machine fixed. If the technician from Appliance Repairman did his job I would not have had to pay for another technician from another company to fix my machine.

We called this company back in December regarding our Fridge which was not cooling. The technician was paid $80.00 to just walk in the door and said that we needed a new Jazz board without even examining the Fridge. This should have been our first red flag.. He advised that he does this all the time and he knows . We bought a Jazz board based on the part number he gave us, and when he came to install it then found out that our model fridge did not have a Jazz board. We had to return the board and paid a restocking fee. Then he said it was the heating coil. We paid the company an additional $360 .00 for him to tell us that. We bought the heating coil and it was installed. Within 2 week the problem persists the Fridge was still not cooling we requested a senior technician to be sent but they sent back the same one on April 18th , he now said that it was the Thermostat, which he changed and in the process of defrosting the ice build up in the freezer damaged the evaporator coil and now in addition to the fridge not cooling the freezer stop working and all my meat etc had to be thrown away. We called the very next day on April 19th to report that the freezer was defrosting and food spoiling they sent an experienced technician to assess the situation.. since then we are calling every day as they do not call you when they said they would . I spoke to so many different people all claiming to be Managers and not getting any solution. Now We are without a fridge and and the Freezer which was working is not damaged by the technician. The part for the freezer is listed a $791. for which they are offering a 10% discount or maximum of $150.00 for their technician incompetence and he damaged the part. We do not think we should be paying an additional dime to this company . I am so upset at the lack of business etiquette. They do not take responsibility for their actions. We are now awaiting for one of the Managers, to escalate to the owner. With the amount of money paid todate and the Fridge is still not working and now they have damaged my Freezer and that is not working I could have bought a new fridge /freezer.
