I have been a loyal care.com user for 8 years now, using it in California, Florida, Maryland, and even while we've traveled abroad. In thanks for that, a few weeks ago, care.com terminated my account for no reason and left me unable to contact the dogsitter who was watching my dog.
It turns out that anyone can contact care.com, make a completely unfounded complaint about you, and rather than investigate it with even the barest effort, they will simply shut down your account. So while I was on vacation with my family, a vengeful dogsitter who was trying to con me into paying more than we had agreed upon contacted care.com and claimed that I had wronged her. They immediately shut down my account, after 8 loyal years of using their service. They could even see where I had paid the woman through care.com. I did everything on the up and up, and they shut me down!
The worst part was that I was using a second dogsitter then, and we had communicated solely through care.com, like they want you to do. So when they shut me down, I had no way of contacting the woman who was watching our dog or to figure out how to get him back.
When I called care.com to get help contacting her, I was told that they had immediately deleted all of my data, including my previous job post and inbox messages, so they didn't know who the dogsitter was or how to get in touch with her. I was beyond furious.
This is a completely unacceptable way to run a business that involves people watching your pets and children! Care.com can just decide to shut down your account for no reason and leave you helpless trying to contact the person watching your loved one.
After a very long time, the representative was finally able to find the contact info for the dogsitter, so we got our dog back, but I am still appalled at how care.com handles these issues. I deserve better than an automated message saying they shut down my account, based on lies from a manipulative woman.
I wouldn't recommend care to anyone as they are beyond unprofessional and clearly don't actually care about their customers at all.

Care.com Response • Jun 30, 2018

We did send a few emails letting her know what was happening. We also recommend that if you have actually hired someone, you should have their personal information so you can contact them directly if needed. Case notes for this state that we were able to help to contact the pet care provider.

Horrible experience with Care.com. They took my money then cancelled my account within 12 hours. They made a written threat to expose me. Expose me for what? My account was never approved. I never made contact with any potential providers. I suspect the threat is to keep me from filing complaints -- a scare tactic. It's time to file formal complaints against Care.com with the *** and the ***. I will do just that. It's easy to file a complaint online with the *** and I encourage others who have had this experience (and I can see there have been hundreds) to do just that.

Care.com Response • Jun 30, 2018

I was not able to find any indication that she was ever charged on the account she is referring to. We do not send out threats to expose anyone who has interacted on our site. We would have sent an email explaining why the account was closed. I do not see that any attempt was made to contact us for additional information on this. There is another older account that was used and then she closed the account herself.

Care.com has terrible customer service. First off the fee to use their payment system is 10%. 10%! That's incredibly high. Similar services on other websites are 2-5%. The phone number is not anywhere on the website. The contact us page only has an email. After googling to find the number, the customer service rep was not helpful. My card was double charged for a booking. The rep refused to refund my money and insisted I get it from the care giver. But care.com still charged me a 10% processing fee and will not return it.

Care.com Response • Jun 30, 2018

We are an online company and we do encourage our members to contact our membercare team via email. We have a very experienced membercare team and strive to reply within 24 hours. Our toll-free number is *** and can be found on the site. When I checked on this, it was explained that we could not refund the processing fee, but we did offer the member a free upgrade when she needs to use the site again. Finally, paying the provider through their account is completely optional.

I felt it necessary to share my experience with care.com, since I have been involved with this website for over 2 years.
The GOOD news first:
-I did obtain multiple jobs on care in the way of babysitting, pet sitting, and house keeping.
-98% of the families I worked for are still my friends and were a joy to work with.
-Usually, the jobs were able to work around my schedule and at one time, I had up to 6 part time jobs.
- At least once, customer service gave me a discount for a prime account when I called and asked for it.
BAD news:
-I am a single Mom who is fighting to get my children back and care kicked me off of the site with NO EXPLANATION OR REASON WHATSOEVER.
This has truly devastated my family financially since almost ALL of my jobs came from care.com. They don't care about my family and they do not have enough decency to give me a justified reason as to why they just kicked me off of they're site and will not let me back on so that I can make a living for my family as a single Mom with no other income.
This site should be called don'tcare.com!!!
-They charge for every little thing and don't even let you give your phone number out to the people you message. THIS SITE STARTED OUT FINE, BUT IS NOW WAY TOO CONTROLLING AND GREEDY!!!
I DO NOT recommend that you give care.com one penny and find your help through sittercity or other sites like that;-)

Care.com Response • Jun 13, 2018

I have reviewed all of the accounts that you registered on the site and I did see that you were refunded when you were not able to have an account on the site. Our member care team did also send you emails explaining what happened with the account. Also, providers on the Care.com site do not have to pay to advertise their services and apply to jobs. For safety reasons, Care.com does not share any personal information, including phone numbers. We have a secure messaging system where you can safely communicate with the members who have responded to your applications.

I chose to open an account as a care seeker in 2013. Here recently I paid for the premium membership to actively seek a child care provider. I was charged for my account. A month later the business chose to close my account because my back ground check yielded my ***. charge. I can not use their sercice or ever become a member again because I made a poor choice to drink and drive. I feel very discriminated against. I'm a single mom raising 2 children alone with 2 parents that are deceased. My offense was a nonviolent offense and involved no one else.

Dear Care.com,
I am really disappointed in your service. We have four kids and need to find care for our children on occasion. My husband set up an account and paid the $40 for a one month subscription. You terminated that account with no explanation and no refund. I then created an account, hoping it would be different, but you wouldn't even take my payment. Now I try to go and login today because I keep getting notifications from applicants (that I can't read since you won't take my payment) and it seems you have terminated my service with no explanation. We have done nothing wrong and I actually used your service years ago as a nanny looking for jobs. I'm really familiar with the child care industry and your careless method of canceling services for no reason is flat out disappointing and bad for business. Good thing for me is that there are better companies out there who are more than willing to take my good business. Best of luck in your lack luster business operations.
Sincerely,
A Very Disappointed Mom

Care.com Response • Jun 13, 2018

I did review your accounts and I saw that you were in contact with our membercare team about this. The account that was originally charged was refunded at that time. Please review our emails to you that would explain any possible reasons for the accounts being closed.

Parents or babysitters- this is a scam site that got famous. In the age of *** this site charges hefty amounts from parents and babysitters just for introduction- not to mention fake background checks that is criminal and ultra-risky.
I am a parent and the quality of baby-sitters is very shady. There may have been a time quality would be their winning point. Today it is full of drunkards, dropouts, fugitives and minimum wage workers who kind find work in NY due to criminal history or laziness. Nevertheless lack of hygiene and disease prone baby-sitters. And they are looking to paid price points of software engineers.
Not that they shouldnt be employed but the info should be transparent plus not at these price points. Burger flippers are not baby-sitters. It is a professional industry of responsibility, respect and repute. You entrust your most valuable and dear children. Care.com must be shut down immediately. I will report them everywhere- they blocked my account after I reported an abusive baby-sitter.

Care.com Response • Jun 09, 2018

We use a reputable third party to process all of our background check requests. Also, the members who post the job and the providers who are being considered are able to negotiate the wages with each other. The secure messaging system allows you to interact with members without revealing any of your personal information until you are sure everything and everyone is as they seem.

Don't try and do business with this company!
First, they don't tell you that it is a paid subscription service until after you enter some personal information (name, email). Even if you are signing up so you can *hireservices they want you to pay, which is ridiculous.
Then, if you decide at that point, you don't want to do business them it is too late. Even though you don't complete the process they start SPAMMING you with emails ... lots and lots of them. They all have an unsubscribe link, which appears to do nothing when you use it. They keep sending emails. I haven't yet found a way to make them stop!

Care.com Response • Jun 09, 2018

I was able to find your account. The account was already opted-out of receiving marketing emails. We did send you an email explaining this and that you could close the account completely to stop the administrative emails. I have now closed the account and you will stop receiving all email from us.

I joined Care.com to locate a housekeeper. Found a discount code online for a 1 month premium membership. I found a girl that would accept credit card payments. She got paid for the first cleaning and then after that came the problems. Emails back and forth to Care.com. I got refunded for 2 cleanings; housekeeper didn't get paid for any more. I also never was able to get a FREE background check with my Premium one month membership. I cannot communicate with the housekeeper. It seems the anonymous number they gave either doesn't work any longer or she is not receiving my messages. This company is terrible !

Care.com Response • Jun 09, 2018

I was able to review the account and I can see that any payments that were not able to be sent have been refunded to you. I also see that you have messaged this housekeeper. It is possible that the Carechat feature was disabled. If it is still active, as a basic seeker you cannot initiate the call anymore.

I got a ton of spam from fake accounts. Having to pay to do basically anything just seems like a bad way to go especially if you are going to be getting a ton of spam. Felt like a bad dating site to be honest.

Care.com Response • Jun 09, 2018

I do apologize that your experience with Care.com was disappointing. We have updated the whole process for our members providing pet care, if you would like to try again!

Care.com uses false advertising. Once you pay to upgrade (a monthly fee) it turns out that you don’t “get” a background check. They offer you the background check for another fee (minimum $60) and tell you that it’s your responsibility to get the background check because they don’t endorse any of the sitters. None of this explained to you. So after realizing this I cancel my subscription within maybe 1 or 2 hours of signing up and they won’t give me a refund. Do NOT USE Care.com. You pay a fee to give you access to pay a bunch more fees. You get nothing for the money.

Care.com Response • Apr 25, 2018

As part of the premium membership you will be able to request to run background checks. If you have a basic membership, you cannot get a background check at all. You would incur the cost of running the background check. When you emailed us about wanting a refund, there wasn't any mention of background checks. I did see that you would have been able to add a background check plan to your membership and not have to incur all the additional costs of requesting each background check.

Customer Response • Apr 25, 2018

I'm not sure what the business response was other than gibberish. I indicated they used false advertising as they tell you to pay the monthly fee and you have "access" to background checks. What they mean is you can PAY for a background check and they recommend that you don't hire any of the people on their site without one. So you get nothing for your money. You can search on the free subscription but you can't message or retain anyone unless you PAY. And then you have to PAY more and upgrade to make sure the person isn't a convicted felon. They also recommend you do research on public websites. YOU PAY THEM FOR NOTHING. You might as well find someone on ***. You're better offer asking for recommendations on FB. Which is how I discovered that Hilton's concierge service will put you in contact with a nanny service when you travel.

I paid for my service with care.com. my account was then suspended pending further check. They have neglected to give me a reason for this action. I am getting no response from the company accept for they are reviewing my records and they will get back to me. I am now going on almost 5 days of no response. This company needs to refund me my money or take my account out of suspension. Again, with no warning, or explanation they suspended my account after I paid for the service. Nobody to talk to on the phone and no actual person has responded to me via email. I would like to get this resolved as soon as possible as I had potential clients I was supposed to meet with but now have no way to contact them and they have no way to contact me.

DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY YOUR CREDIT CARD!!! I joined an advertised membership for $99/year and was charged $99 four times in one year. THEN I READ THE REVIEWS! They don't let you cancel.... only downgrade. You never can get away from them and they are huge scammers. THEY HAVE MORE THAN 1000 1 STAR REVIEWS

Care.com Response • Mar 28, 2018

I am unable to locate an account so there isn't any way for me to check this out! A downgrade is a cancellation of the billing! The account can be left open in a free status after downgrading the membership.

Wow! Scam is a harsh word, but I don't know what else to call it. Day 1, job alert for dog sitting, from someone two states away!. Day 2, message from care.com that the poster had been restricted from using the site. Day 3, job alert, different person, different place, but with the EXACT same wording as the previous one. Coincidence? I think scam, or a very mismanaged site. Cannot even apply for a job without buying "credits." No way to contact anyone. Felt an urgent need to close my account. Help section instructions use verbiage not found in the account editing section. I suspect the only ones making money are the people behind this site collecting fees for jobs that never happen, or don't exist to begin with.

Care.com Response • Mar 28, 2018

I saw that you had a pet care profile on your account and pet care jobs do require the purchase of credits. There have been some instances of pet care seekers sending messages that have turned out to be scams and we have installed new updates in an effort to catch them before they are able to send out messages. When you join the site, we do recommend that you keep all communication through our secure messaging and to be wary of initial requests to take the conversation off the site. We do also provide a way for members to report anything they feel is suspicious. I do apologize that you did not have a good first experience on Care.com.

Care.com took my money, allowed me to do a significant amount of work on finding the people I need to help me, and then closed my account without warning. I was looking for help with my maintaining order in my home, since I am autistic.
So basically, these people are the kind of scammers who take money from autistic people and then shut down their account without warning, based on some non-sense idea that because I'm an adult and a professional, this doesn't count as care giving. Their only email to me claimed that *Ihad chosen to shut the account down. When I complained on , they went back on that and said that I was a business, not an individual.
I was looking for a cleaner for my home and a 3 hour a week personal care assistant to help me keep my paperwork sorted. Definitely within the realm of personal help. They didn't ask me about it. They just shut the account down, lied about it, and now are now refusing to answer me.

Care.com Response • Mar 28, 2018

I was able to locate the account and I saw that you were refunded at the same time that the account was closed. Please contact your bank to check to see why they have not processed the refund. Also, our toll-free number is . A representative of our Member Care Call Center Team can be reached between the hours of 10am-6pm EST Monday through Friday.

I was in need of a caregiver for my wife and like so many other "Victims" of Care.com, I bought into their one month service. I got no responses to my post and was unable to contact a human being at Care.com. They've refused to refund my one month membership ever though they didn't do anything to earn it. Based on the posts I've seen on this Revdex.com website, I will also need to contact my credit card company and make sure they don't continue to charge me for a service they've never provided. It is unfortunate, but it is going to take us, the consumers, to broadcast enough negative PR about Care.com for the general population to realize that they are a scam.
In an effort to help those needing caregivers, I have had extraordinary support from KindlyCare.com. I am not a spokesperson for them, but I am definitely a fan. They reached out to me as I was filling out their online application and asked how they could help me. They had a caregiver at my house the next day (On a Sunday) for an interview and she has been wonderful.

Care.com Response • Feb 28, 2018

When I reviewed your account, it does appear that you were looking for a caregiver almost immediately. Our site is generally more effective when you have some time before the care is actually needed. When a job is posted, it is on the site for 3 weeks because that is generally the length of time a seeker on our site needs to find the exact caregiver they need.

I was a care provider, Care.com is not as advertised. The platform isn’t stable, you are randomly kicked out and the site is filled with fake ads. Not responding to these fake ads counts against you. Overlooking all of the above I was hired for several jobs through the site and was in the top 1% of caregivers in my area with all 5 star reviews.
Most recently I was hired for a “house manager” position. It quickly became evident that the job was a full time housekeeping job for an unethical micromanaging alcoholic. I thanked him for the opportunity and told him it wasn’t a good fit.
He then began to harass me, multiple phone calls and texts and even going as far as to recall the references I’d provided trying to get a hold of me. Additionally he went on Care and gave me a 1 star review. All of this was reported to Care and no action was taken. I’ve cancelled my membership and would warn against using the site. The only thing Care.com is concerned with is getting your mone

Care.com Response • Mar 05, 2018

I am sorry that you had a bad experience with a member you met on Care.com. I checked and your report was sent to our safety team for follow up. It appears that they did let you know they were investigating.

Extremely diffficult to figure out how to cancel your account. Their are a lot of hidden fees as well.

Care.com Response • Feb 26, 2018

to cancel the billing you can click on the downgrade button on the Account Settings page. Please send us an email at [email protected] if you need assistance with your account.

I joined Care.com last year, paid for the upgraded account, paid for a background check for somone I found to come to my home and clean it. Set up the appointment with her not once but twice and both times she failed to call or show up. None of the money was refunded. I have a friend who had someone who was to come to her house yesterday from Care.com and this lady was a no call and a no show. I don't care if they have an A+ rating with the Revdex.com this is a too common problem and they do not provide what they say that they will because of the ones they hire not being dependable.

Care.com Response • Feb 03, 2018

I am sorry that you had this experience. I was able to check your account and you have stated that you did provide a review for this member. Reviews are the best way to let other members know what went right and what went wrong. The providers on Care.com are not employed by us, but we do encourage all members to be courteous and do what they have promised to do.

Site/app have so many technical issues and extremely frustrating customer service. Bought one month membership and created a job which is open but no one can see it after the first day! When I message care providers asking them to check out my job, they cannot see any job in my profile. When I contact someone for the first time, there is option to attach a job or create a new job but I was unable to see and attach my job except for two times, and for all other messages I had to type in my job details for each message!
No phone number available anywhere on the site so had to search on the internet for their customer service number. First time I called, I agreed through the automated system to receive a call back, but that never came. Next time I called and spoke to their agent, he said there was no problem with my account and my job is visible, and even though 4-5 people had replied to me that they couldn't see my job, I believed him and just asked people to see on the bottom right of my profile as advised. But after about 20 more messages like that from people who have been using care.com, it was pretty clear that there is an issue. Called back and this agent was ridiculous! Despite clearly explaining multiple times, he just kept talking over me and insisting that everything is fine, everyone I'm messaging doesn't know how to look for the job and he cannot give any refund either for this useless service, and there is no supervisor to speak to. Don't waste your money on this useless site and scam!

Care.com Response • Feb 03, 2018

I was able to review your account and I found that you have the job posted under housekeeping. The providers that you reached out to who cannot see your job are babysitters and do not have a housekeeping service profile. If you would like babysitters to also apply to the job, and also be able to see it when you message them, you can post the same job under babysitting. That should resolve the problem. We do have a very experienced member care email team. I would suggest that you send us an email if you have any other questions.

Customer Response • Feb 09, 2018

Thank you for your response. The resolution you provided here helped and by posting the same job under babysitting , sitters werr able to see it. However, this resolution should have been provided by your customer service agent when I called the first time itself, instead if two calls and a Revdex.com comment later! Please consider training the lacking agents better in the application as well as basic customer service principles. Also consider making it clear in job posting process that visibility is limited and eventually r moving this limitation as it doesn't make sense when people do both things and want to hire for both skills- baby sitting and housekeeping. Thanks.
