I would give them zero stars if I could. I contacted them online to look for someone to clean my home part time. I was very explicit in who and what I needed. I am sorry to say they are not. I was led to believe that , by buying a 3 month premium membership for $45.60, it would entitle me to a number of benefits. One of my concerns is security background. I received a list of potential candidates for the job. The one at the top of the list, after messaging back and forth twice, I find out, is looking for full time nanny work. The second one who I messaged once and she messaged me twice, did not show up for her interview, and I never heard from her again. The third one, who I messaged once, never even responded. For each one, the best they could offer for background checks was verifying the phone number on 2 of the above, and a phone and facebook account on one. When you click on trying to see what their security background is, you are redirected to sign up for expensive background searches. I called and requested a full refund. They refused, saying I used the service by messaging those three prospective candidates. They told me they would refund the second two months (totaling $5.61) , but charge me for one month at $39.99! I argued that I had not used any service. She then said that she was offering to give me a credit and charge me for one month at $39.99, and if I did not like that then I can just pay the $45.60 Her exact words! I even repeated it back to her to be sure I heard it correctly. She agreed that I had. Oh, and by the way, they hung up on me twice when I was initially trying the make the call.

Care.com is not an agency and does not employ any of the care providers that are members of the site. The site works best when members post a job for their care needs. This allows members who are actively looking for that type of work to apply to the job. Care.com provides information and tools to help care seekers and care providers connect and make informed decisions. However, each individual is solely responsible for selecting an appropriate care provider or care seeker for themselves or their families. Our refund policy is also clearly stated in the Terms of Use. The initial upgrade to any length of membership is non-refundable, especially if the premium benefits have been used.

Tried to sign up as a Pet sitter and received an email saying that my profile wasn't approved because I signed up as an individual not a business. There was a link in the email directing me to their business site. I canceled my individual account and signed up at the business site. Received another email saying that I should have registered as an individual not a business. Really?
They allow you to post your profile for free but if you don't upgrade to a premium membership, they don't approve you.
Stay away from this company! Don't waste your time.

Care.com Response • May 13, 2019

This most definitely should not have happened. It was an error on our part. Payment is never required to be approved for an account on the site.

I had an account with care.com for many years. They took my annual dues in March and then cancelled my account in April and wouldn't give a reason or refund my money

Care.com Response • May 07, 2019

An email was sent on April 19, 2019 and the account was refunded on the same day.

Should be zero stars!!! Had no idea I was being charged monthly! Devastating. It slipped by as a care charge we thought was related to our insurance. So frustrated. They need to be accountable!

Care.com Response • May 02, 2019

Please reach out to us by email, chat or social media so we can help you with this. All of our memberships are subscriptions and do auto-renew until cancelled. This is highlighted on the upgrade page before submitting your payment.

There is no way to sign up for a short period - you have to put in your credit card and then it's very difficult to cancel. They want you to forget so they can keep charging you without you noticing. Don't do it!

CARE.COM has the worst customer service of any organization that I have ever interacted with.
I signed up for a 1 month subscription on their website. They continued to bill me for 5 months afterwards- even though I could not log on to my account; it was difficult to figure out a phone number to call to cancel my subscription; and I had not been made aware that I had to cancel my 1 month subscription otherwise I would continue to be billed thereafter.
When calling to request a refund, the company acknowledged that I had not used the website for over 5 months, but they said their corporate policy was not to issue refunds- and said that in their terms and conditions it is clearly stated that one must intentionally cancel their subscription otherwise you will continue to be billed. Their terms and conditions are dense footnotes; their lack of transparency is terrible; and their customer service has been unresponsive; unwilling to engage other than via email (no one will speak to me); and unfriendly.
I do not recommend their service. I didn't enjoy using their service and strongly recommend finding other, better services that provide a level of professionalism.

As an online company, we do utilize our online presence to the fullest and offer 24/7 member care support through email. We are also available through *** and ***. Our renewal information is stated in two locations during the upgrade process prior to any payment being submitted. A refund of the latest charge has already been processed.

I was a member for 5 days or less. After 2-3 days I sent them a critical comment about how vague their directions were. They offered no reason or explanation. They did take my $27.30 though and offered no return of money. They suck and are a scam. Don't use them. Zero stars, not even one

Care.com Response • Apr 13, 2019

The payment mentioned was refunded and we did send an email letting you know this. Refunds take up to 7 days to process. I do apologize that the site did not meet your needs.

I needed to find a tutor for my son. When I did a *** search care.com surfaced. I browsed thier website and found numerous tutors offering their services in my city and surrounding counties. The prices were in ranges of 10- 25 dollars an hour. I was okay with the 25.00 per hour and I was excited there were many tutors to choose. None of the tutor profiles were labeled inactive or displayed only certain time slots. I posted my job for a tutor for 10-25 an hour then I contacted six tutors to meet and not one tutor responded in any way so I reposted my tutor ad with open flexibility on days and times and still no response. I contacted customer service and I was told that because I contacted potential tutors that never responded to me I didn't qualify for a refund. I was told that care.com don't have any way of knowing or confirming that you will receive the service your requesting. I was told that I should not have purchased the premium service even though I was not able to communicate with anyone without having the premium service. The next morning I received an online tutor requiring 50.00 per hour that would accumulate to 100.00 a week for the tutor purposes we were looking to attain which is outside pf our budget. I am very disappointed in this company and the lack of service they claim to provide the user. It is NOT clear to the user how it works and many if not all service providers listed are NOT actually active and looking to be hired for that service. I further asked to speak directly with a supervisor and setup a time the next day at 9 am when they opened because I was told they didn't have a supervisor on duty at the time I called. I waited for the phone call that never came. The call I requested was cancelled by care.com management and they didn't bother to take the time to give me a courtesy call but instead sent me an email stating that I didn't qualify for a refund because I tried to contact a tutor for service that never answered my request. Not one tutor returned communication or responded to my inquiries. I will be cancelling my account and I'm letting everyone know my experience so you don't end up paying for a service that you will never receive. I still need a tutor and now I'm out of the fee I paid to care.com to find a tutor. Be warned to not use this service. Even if someone responds to your ad and you pay to communicate to them it is not guaranteed you will get the service you thought you were buying. It's just a money scam and care.com doesn't care whether you attain the service or not. Stay away from this service company. See the email response below that was sent to me instead of the phone call I requested to resolve the issue:
Dear ***,
Per your request I have reviewed your case, and I am very sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with the caregivers on the site.
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that each family will find the perfect caregiver which is why we offer the Free Basic Membership to get started. With this initial membership we allow families to evaluate the caregivers on the site by posting a job, receiving applications, and previewing profiles. Once an account has been upgraded to the Premium Membership, you are granted complete access to our service and the ability to contact caregivers on the site.
I do apologize that you are not finding what you are looking for but we cannot refund the subscription because you have in fact utilized the service.
If you have any further questions please refer to our Terms of Use for more information.
Best Regards,
Andrew

Care.com Response • Apr 11, 2019

Care.com is a self-service website where members who need a service can post a job and those members who provide the service can apply to those jobs. The members providing a service are not employees of Care.com and can set their own schedules and pay rates. You are free to negotiate these rates when interviewing your applicants. Our terms of use also clearly states that the initial upgrade to any account is non-refundable and we do not guarantee you will be able to find a caregiver/tutor who suits your needs. I do also apologize that you were expecting a call back and received an email instead.

I signed up for ONE month in order to find childcare for my infant son. I read the subscription terms as a reasonably prudent consumer would and determined that it would be for one month for the price of $30 which was perfect for me. No where did it plainly lay out that after the first month, they would automatically upgrade me. This was back in August 2018. Today I looked at my credit card statement and noticed that Care.com had upgraded me to an automatically recurring subscription without my knowledge and I have been charged $39/month since September 2018. Their billing practices are manipulative, dishonest, and greedy. Shame on this company for taking advantage of their customers, who happen to be families in need! The proof of this is all over the internet. I wish I had read these complaints before even opening up their website. We are down over $250 and I did not even use their services. I will be filing a complaint to the Revdex.com and disputing these charges immediately. Also, for anyone still thinking about using their services, they were just recently part of a lawsuit regarding their inadequate and misleading background check process. I'd advise you to do some research before using Care.com!

Care.com Response • Apr 11, 2019

I apologize if you were not aware of our Automatic Renewal Feature. This policy is clearly highlighted on the upgrade page directly underneath the membership options. I do not see that you reached out to us at all with help in resolving this billing issue. Please also be aware that it is clearly stated when enrolling and when sending messages to caregivers, 'Care.com doesn't employ or endorse any caregivers. Vetting is your responsibility.'

Buyer BEWARE! Not a trust worthy company - do your research, read reviews. Automatic renewal and will not refund charges. I was a new user and thought by cancelling ad that I was cancelling the service, INCORRECT. Read thoroughly terms and conditions. Any company that collects funds for services not provided is not the type of company you want to use to care for your loved ones. Unethical. Read about the lawsuit they just lost and have to pay damages on........another example of the type of company practices used by care.com.

Care.com Response • Apr 11, 2019

I apologize if you were not aware of our Automatic Renewal Feature. However, all subscriptions automatically renew until canceled and we highlighted this feature on the enrollment page when you joined Care.com and again on the upgrade page. Upon review, a refund was processed for the most recent charge, an offer of a free month was made and refused and direction was provided for pursuing further refunds.

Horrible response rate. Even when you pay the monthly fee, unless the person looking for care is also paying you will never connect and they don't tell you that!

Care.com Response • Mar 10, 2019

As a self-service website, it is ultimately up to the member to reply to an application. We do encourage our members to be courteous. A paid membership does not guarantee that your applications will get a response. Only one member needs to have a premium subscription for communication to begin through our secure server.

I had been a sitter on here for years. Found multiple jobs that I did. Never had any problems. Well, then decided to be a stay at home mom for awhile so I wasn't using it. Randomly got an email that my account was closed. I emailed them trying to get it resolved when I was looking for a job again. They told me that they closed my account, and can do so without any reason, and that the decision is final that I won't be able to use the service ever again. Very frustrating.

Care.com Response • Mar 10, 2019

When joining Care.com, the terms of use clearly state, Pursuant to the Care.com Privacy Policy and Terms of Use, Care.com is not required to release the specific details as to why an account has been closed.

I've looked into using care.com but why do I need to pay to email someone and when I tried to contact them I got all of these promotions for some other business and then a number to an addiction clinic. This is my second years trying to use them but trying to contact customer service is a joke. Something seems a little fishy about them and it is so easy to set up payment but you can't even speak to anyone. Yes, I know they will say I post a job on the site and that is correct but I'm trying to see why do I have to pay to email someone and for them to turn me down. Then why is it so difficult to talk to someone in customer service. Why do they say they have background checks and it seems as if you will pay more money with them than you will with the caregiver. Something is wrong with this company and it seems as if they are trying to help themselves and not the consumer. The Revdex.com need to take action and investigate this company. I'm glad I read the reviews before I continued I will look for services elsewhere.

:We provide a secure server for messaging between members. This server allows members to message each other before sharing any personal information. This is a safety measure which helps keep personal information private until members decide they would like to share it themselves. One of the parties does have to be a premium member before replies can be sent to application messages. As an online company we do make the most of our online presence and customer service (member care) can also be reached by email and through social media. Background checks are available for purchase to members looking for care that have a premium membership. We do have options available that will save members a substantial amount on purchasing individual background checks.

I signed up to use care.com in 2017. I didn't realize my wife did at same time. I canceled my service with them and months later they began to charge my card again. They are very reluctant to refund my money.

Care.com Response • Mar 10, 2019

This member just recently reached out to us about this. There wasn't any indication that this was cancelled. The billing does not indicate that it stopped and then started up again. Our refund policy was explained to him.

I AM VERY FRUSTRATED AND ANGRY AS YOU WERE TO ONLY CHAGE ME FOR TWO MONTHS AND IT APPEARS THAT YOU HAVE BEEN CHARGING ME FOR TWO YEARS WITHOUT MY PERMISSION!!! The service was good, but have not used it in two years and they are continuing to charge us $45 a month! I am having to cancel my credit card in order to stop this from continuing!!!! This is over a $1,080 of fraudulent activity! VERY DISGRACEFUL! AND STRESSFUL!!!

Care.com Response • Mar 08, 2019

We are very sorry this has happened, however the membership is a subscription and does auto-renew until cancelled and this is clearly explained when joining and again on the upgrade page. This member never reached out to us for assistance with this. The billing has now been stopped.

Care.com is a Mickey Mouse operation that cannot even assist their clients with legitimate complaints. I was a sitter on care.com and was harassed by a lunatic member that was upset that I would not take their job offer so they proceeded to call me repeatedly and send me countless text messages. When I notified care.com about this instead of handling the matter they deleted my profile! They are an atrocious company and need to learn how to handle customer service. I highly recommend choosing another site like sittercity over care.com. They are disgusting!

Care.com Response • Mar 08, 2019

Our safety team did take her concerns seriously and handled accordingly. The policies that were followed are part of our terms of use which she would have agreed to when enrolling on the site.

I attempted to cancel my membership in October and was told "I didn't have an account" in spite of them charging me $42.00 monthly. I emailed back and forth with the company per the instruction I was given on the phone. I found out in February that I had been charged for October, November, December, and January. I had to go through my credit card company to stop the payments. DISGRACEFUL.

Care.com Response • Mar 02, 2019

I have reviewed all of the communication and it was not stated that he did not have an account, it was stated that the account in his name with the email address he provided was not ever billed, which was accurate. It appears the account may have been for someone else but no information could be provided to help us locate that account. Screenshots were requested and an email was sent requesting additional information to help locate and stop the billing.

I canceled my membership 2 years ago and the company has continued to charge my credit card quarterly for the service. Bad business practices.

Care.com Response • Mar 02, 2019

If a membership cancellation is successful, an alert email is sent to the member's inbox confirming the downgrade. If this confirmation is not received, the member should try again or send us an email to take care of this for them. The membership is a subscription and it is ultimately up to the member to decide when they no longer need the service and ensure the billing has been stopped as requested.

If I could give this company -10000000 stars, I would. I was a caregiver for years using Care.com to connect to clients as my primary source of income. One day, I was scammed by a lady seeking services for her child. I gave her some materials to try with her child after my first interview before our first tutoring session. Unfortunately, one of my family members passed and I had to relocate. I let the lady know kindly that I would not be able to tutor her son. I asked her when she would be available for me to come by and pick up the materials I loaned her. In a furious rage, she sent me numerous harassing text messages and denied to return the materials, which were quite expensive. She contacted care.com and made a complaint about me. I was banned and my profile was taken down. Care.com failed to consider all of my numerous positive reviews or even contacting me before taking my profile down all because one angry mother is upset she cannot find a caregiver. I can't believe she was so insensitive about the situation I was experiencing and I am appalled that Care.com has no loyalty to protecting caregivers or even asking me about the situation. I also believe Care.com sells private information to other companies because upon signing up, I received numerous scam texts and e-mails from individuals claiming to seek services with the sole intention of gaining my bank information to deposit a fake check and scam me. Care.com is basically a Facebook that charges people monthly memberships for their benefit only, you would be better off going on Facebook to find a caregiver in your area and implementing your own background check. Notice how they have a witty reply for every complaint below, instead of apologizing and taking ownership for their terrible customer service. Look on google and search "Care.com robbery" or "care.com babysitter steals purses". They claim they are not responsible for the outcome of connecting two individuals, so why even pay them in the first place if your money is not going towards protecting your integrity and ability to serve. Care.com is basically a hub for scammers.

Care.com Response • Feb 24, 2019

I was not able to find any contact from this former member concerning this. If you would like to report this issue to our safety team, please send an email to [email protected] along with any relevant information so we can research this. Care.com does not sell any of our members private information. Any texts or emails claiming they are from Care.com are phishing scams and should not be responded to.

I spent 3 years building my business on their platform, got my background check, and upgraded to Premium. I had 5 star reviews as a caregiver and they terminated my account for NO reason. I emailed them twice and received very generic replies. Stating they do not have to offer a reason for termination. I'm disgusted with their level of professionalism.
