CarShield Reviews (%countItem)

When I purchased this extended warranty on my 2006 Buick Rendezvous with 85k miles, I asked numerous questions on the phone regarding what the warranty did and did not cover. The agent that worked with me was very nice, but very pushy and refused to send me the contract to review. The deal she was giving me was at first "only valid right now". And then as I told her I wouldn't do it until I could review a contract or she could answer my questions she told me it was 30 day money back, no hassle, and I asked her very specific questions. I asked her if the warranty covered timing chain failures, [internal] part failures, and if it covered the AWD system which is notorious for failing on these vehicles. She said yes, as long as you have records of maintenance. I told her that I just recently purchased the vehicle and only have 4-5 months of receipts and she told me that there was no problem with that. Fast forward a couple months, I ran into issues with the computer on my car. This was not covered under warranty, I said fair enough no problem. But then the car started having other issues and needed to have the timing system looked at and I was told that if it appears it's due to not being changed they wouldn't cover it! So I kept driving the vehicle after a more thorough inspection and then started having issues with the transfer case and was told because it hasn't "failed completely" it would not be covered. But the issue made the car not safe to drive! When I purchased the warranty I asked numerous questions and the answer was ALWAYS "You'll be very happy with this, take a look at the sample claims"... and then nothing was covered. I called back to see if I could get a different answer from a different person and then magically nobody had any record of my past conversations, but the answer was the same. I requested to have the warranty cancelled at the start of December and it was not cancelled. My bank said I could do a dispute, but honestly I need the account for sure cancelled. The warranty as described and agreed to over the phone WAS NOT as described in the actual contract, vastly different coverage and exclusions.

CarShield Response • Jan 12, 2020

Thank you for your comment.

I took out a policy with them, they told me everything will be covered. My mechanic told me I needed a new engine. Initially they told my mechanic that it would be covered. Then later, they called back and told them that it would not be covered because the car is too old. It is Dodge Dakota 2005.

CarShield Response • Jan 13, 2020

We contacted your service contract administrator on your behalf to obtain information on the repair claim you have brought to our attention. They stated that the failed component was the transmission solenoid. This part is not listed as a covered component under your powertrain service contract terms.

If you have any additional questions or dispute regarding your service contract administrator's repair claim decision, you would need to contact them directly. The service contract administrator is the obligated party under your contract terms and has full authority over repair claim procedures and decisions. Also see section M of your service contract for dispute resolution.

Your service contract has been cancelled as you requested.

I do not accept CarShield's response as it has nothing to do with the issue of my complaint.

My mechanic and myself already understood that my policy with CarShield did not cover transmission repair as clearly stated on the policy.

Here's what happened - On January 2, 2020, my mechanic told me I needed to replace the engine on my 2005 Dodge Dakota SLT. He looked over my contract with CarShield and said it looked like it should be covered and would call them to start a claim for repair.

Back in July I heard about CarShield and thought it would be a good idea to start coverage on my vehicle. I am 65 years old, the original owner and it has 160,000 miles, has been garage kept and is in excellent condition. I explained all of this to the CarShield representative and ws told I needed the $138.00/month policy that covered everything except electrical and transmission repairs.

When my mechanic called me on January 2, 2020 and told me he spoke to a representative and then a supervisor at CarShield extensively about the engine but was denied repairs. He was told "the vehicle was too old" and the engine wasn't covered and that's when I contacted the Revdex.com.

On January 10, 2020, I called CarShield and the representative (Ben) told me that my claim for engine work was still open and they were waiting for further diagnostics from my mechanic whom they hadn't heard from yet.

The same CarShield representative (Ben) spoke to my mechanic the same day only to bring up transmission repair which my mechanic and I already knew was not covered and was not even the issue of my claim. My mechanic told me he was never asked for more diagnostics on the engine joist, as stated, that the engine replacement was flatly denied by CarShield.

I cancelled my policy with CarShield at 2:35 pm on January 10, 2020. I believe I was misled into taking out a $138/month insurance policy that was not honored and was just taking my money.

I do not accept CarShield's response as they did not address the issue of engine repair.

I saw an ad on TV for CarShield and out of curiosity I went online for a quote. I have a brand new car but the warranty is up in 3 years and I figured it wouldn't hurt to see what this kind of extended warranty might cost down the road. They require you to put in your phone number for the quote (which is odd considering usually an email is required) but now I see why. They called me 4 times, left a voicemail, and then called 3 more times after that. This was within 5 hours of me signing up online for a free quote. I told them on the phone that I was annoyed with the number of times they'd called me in such a brief period of time (give someone 24 hours to reply to your voicemail before calling AGAIN- unbelievable) and that I wasn't interested in hearing anything else from them about a quote. The next day I started getting robocalls and have been getting them every day since - 6 a day of more! The robocalls aren't from CarShield- they're those basic "we're cancelling your SSN" etc. but I KNOW CarShield either sold my phone number or their site doesn't hold people's information secure. Either way, bad on them. Now I'm pissed off that I even went on to get a quote because my cellphone is being inundated and ringing with 6 scam calls every day. Terrible people. I'm seeing how I can file a class action suit or something.

We have removed you form our data base. We do apologize for the inconvenience.

12/16/19 I spoke with CarShield 2 inquire what 2 do if something is wrong with my jeep 2015. I was told 2 bring it 2 any shop & then have the shop give a call. I bring the jeep 2 *** shop & explained 2 *** auto manager that I have a warranty service he told me that “its fine, I have dealt with warranty companies be4”. We called CarShield 2 get the information 4 the process. *** & I explain what the vehicle diagnostic which was the bank 1 bank 2 sensors misfire on cylinder 5 and drive shaft. *** got the ok 2 start their work for American Auto Shield.
12/18/19 I received a call from *** at *** explain 2 me that they will have an inspector coming in two or three days (Friday or Saturday). I called CarShield for a rental car because it will have been five days without a vehicle I was told that they would provide a rental after 4 days of keeping the car. Carshield told me that they can’t because it’s not enough work being done & I told them that my vehicle is ready I am now without a car because of CarShield.
12/20/19 *** at *** called me & said CarShield will not cover the work so I call CarShield asking them why not? They told me that they will only cover sway bar links coil for misfire and yolks for $444.53. I asked about my sensors and drive shaft I was told that sensors was not covered because code didn’t show when the inspector got there I told them that I have codes from auto zone this codes will come on and off. I asked about the drive shaft and was told that they will not cover it because of impact like a car accident I told them I was never in a car accident & I have plate under my truck. I then asked to speak to a supervisor then I spoke with *** in the extended claims who told me that *** from *** & the Inspector had a language problem because *** speak Spanish & it was a misunderstanding so I asked 4 a second opinion he said that they can have a Spanish speaker call.
12/23/19 I called In 2 try 2 find out what’s going on with the repair CarShield & American Auto Shield told me again that they will have someone call *** & that they will not cover it cause its was no indication of need a repair I explain to them that *** & I was told to start the work & you guys sent in an inspector after 2 days of work you, Carshield told *** they will just need him to tell them what’s wrong with the drive shaft again.
12/26/19 I called again 2 see what was going on with the repair I was told that it will not be repaired because of the inspector saying that it was a car accident I told them again, I was never in a car accident & I have protector plates on my Jeep Wrangler then they turn around & told me that is was a brand new drive shaft so I asked how do the inspector find damage then say there is a new drive shaft they could never answer, I also explained again that we was told 2 work on the Jeep & then they sent an inspector 2/3 days later. I told them I have invoices 4 the Jeep of all the work that was every done on my jeep. I even asked when I got the plan for CarShield I told them it feels like a scam because of the contradictions and the lies.
01/02/20 *** called me & told me that the drive shaft still won’t be covered after he have told CarShield multiple times the diagnostics. I call 2 American Auto Shield & was put on with supervisor Vincent who told me it was nothing I can do after I asked him about to drive shaft, I explained to him that the service is not completed he told me that the last say is on the inspector. I told him that they had a language barrier & that I was told they were going 2 have someone who speak Spanish 2 *** & that we was told to start the work. He told me that there nothing I could do as the customer I then explained who do I need to speak 2 & I still could not get answer I then asked how can I stop my plan & get my money back I was told to call CarShield. I called CarShield & spoke 2 Supervisor Tino who I then explained the problem he told me it’s nothing he can do I told him about the drive shaft & he said maybe they got the car fax I explained to him that I was never in a car accident & I can prove it & I would not call CarShield I would have called my insurance if it was a car accident issue. He told me he understand & see where I am coming from. I also told him that the problem with the inspection because he saying there is damage but when he seeing it nothing is wrong. I then asked If the service Is not going to be provide I need my money back & 2 take my jeep off plan. I was told I will not get my money back because they have done some of the work.

We did contact your service contract administrator, American Auto Shield (AAS), to get information on the repair claim you have referenced. They stated thatthey had no prior authorization for repairs. They had no failure demonstrated in this claim. They also show impact damage to the driveshaft, which is not covered under your service contract terms.

AAS did authorize repairs to the coil, swaybar links and U joint. $390.03 was paid on 1/3/2019.

No refund is due.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

1. I am disputing the claim that the auto shop did not have prior authorization to do service repairs on my vehicle:
a.) Reason why is because I was with *** (part owner of the Auto shop) when he was given the approval to start the work. Two days later we get a call saying that there will be an inspector coming in two to three days.

2. I am disputing any impact to my 2015 jeep due to:
a.) Impact on drive shaft is false I have original invoice paperwork to show new drive shaft also there are guards that protect under carriage on the jeep. Driveshaft also was inspected by shop recently with no indication of impact. Also there has never been a police report of accident damage which can be backed up by *** and the salesmen that sold me the jeep in 2017, my truck is a show jeep and can be found on various online sites.
b.) There was a language barrier that I was informed from the supervisor name Juan in the extend claims department from Carshield with the American Auto Shield inspector & E’s Auto Shop (Robert).
This barrier seem to be just one of the causes that my vehicle was not covered fully and resulted in me not having my jeep for 9 days. In which I was not provided a rental car or no full coverage of the payment of vehicle service.

Juan from claim department told me in contact with American Auto Shield to help because of the problem. I was told by American Auto Shield that they were going to call *** Co-owner of *** because of the problem (language barrier) between him and the inspector.
a.) The only thing *** told the inspector he can show is the repair, diagnostic and invoice from the shop he had to send the driveshaft too. I also explain to American Auto Shield that I can send invoice paperwork (original invoice on the jeep when I bought it, and when I added on additional auto work) to them and I told Carshield the same when I purchased the coverage.
I am now stuck with a bill because of false information and because of the wrong steps given by Carshield and American Auto Shield to me and the Auto shop. This is false representation of service and they are misguiding the customer. Carshield and American Auto Shield are not well equipped to service Texas residents because there is a large Spanish population of business owner here and Spanish is their 1st language.

Sincerely

The administrator of your service contract stated that you did not obtain prior authorization for the repair; which is required under your service contract terms. No failure could be demonstrated by yourrepair facility. There was also impact damage to the driveshaft. Impact or accident damage is not covered under your service contract terms.Your contract administrator also did pay a prior claim for you for the repair of the coil, swaybar linksand U joint in the amount of $390.03. This is MORE that was paid into your service contract. We feel our response shows that this complaint should be closed as resolved and answered.Thank youCustomer Relations

I am rejecting this response because:
I have never had a car accident and can be proven I also spoke to CarShield and was told that there was a misunderstanding because of languages. I have carfax and in voice paperwork that show new drive shaft and work that been done on the Jeep. Es auto also explained to American Auto Shiel that they to him to start the work he also spoke to them after and explain what was wrong.

I have requested Carshield to stop mailing me the "Important and confidential letters multiple times, these are unsolicited sales letters, I have also requested that they stop calling me to enroll me into the service that I neither asked for nor want. These people are as bad as any phone call scammer on the planet, I get 3- 6 calls a week from them.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We appreciate the opportunity to respond.

We did send you a mailed advertisement and have removed you from our mailing list.

However, we have not contacted you by phone. Many times a consumer is receiving phone calls from one of the many other marketing companies out there, then receives one of our mailers and assumes the calls are coming from our company as well. That is not the case.

I needed them and the experience was very good. It was used for a flat tire.

CarShield Response • Jan 06, 2020

Thank you for the review. We appreciate you letting us know that we could help you out when you had a flat tire. Give us a call any time you need our assistance!

Carshield is a waste of money, DO NOT purchase this. I have had the warranty for a long time and just recently tried to use for the first time and nothing was covered even though my paperwork said it was (power steering pump and a clock spring) the clock spring is electrical and their reason for not covering was " the way it failed" I'm not sure how it failed being electrical component in the steering wheel but I guess they keep themselves a way out of everything.

CarShield Response • Jan 06, 2020

You purchased your powertrain service contract on 10/17/2019. Your repair facility called in regarding a failed clock spring, which is not part of your powertrain and is not listed as covered in your powertrain service contract terms. This mechanism allows your airbag, horn and steering wheel buttons to stay connected as the steering wheel is rotated to turn. Your service contract has been cancelled as you requested and your last payment is being refunded back to your Visa.

It's a scam. Run by ***.
DO NOT BUY ANY WARRENTY FROM THIS COMPANY.
They didn't pay for my transmission after my car was sitting in the shop for over 3 weeks. The shop performed all diagnostic work as per their instructions. After that they are saying there is a discrepancy in the mileage!!
Please be aware of this cheaters.

CarShield Response • Jan 06, 2020

We contacted your service contract administrator regarding the repair claim you have referenced. They stated that CarFax showed your vehicle had more miles on it in August that the mileage that was submitted at the time you purchased your service contract in late September. Your claims administrator voided you contract and you are in the process of receiving a full refund.

CarShield does not practice in transparent sales practices or allow customers to listen to the sales call when a customer requests proof that the salesperson actually stated what would be required when a dealer submits a claim. My salesperson did not state at anytime during the sales process that should you would have to submit ANY maintenance records when filing a claim. In addition, no maintenance records were required at the time the warranty information was being purchased. In addition, their commercials are nothing but an untruthful synopsis of the CarShield process. Nothing was mentioned during their commercials that ANY previous maintenance records are required for warranty coverage. To be clear, I would have NEVER purchased this warranty had I been told that ANY maintenance records would be required for a warranty claim.
My Ford Fusion was driven to Countryside Ford after experiencing a loud knocking noise and not shifting properly after putting gas into it. When my dealership submitted a claim on my vehicle for coolant in cylinder 2 and metal in the oil filter (the car needs a new engine), they were informed that I had to submit maintenance records for 2 tows in April. The tows in April have nothing to do with the car making a knocking noise and metal in the oil filter. We have AAA and unclear how those tows became part of the warranty process. AAA and *** have denied providing ANY of my roadside service information to CarShield or ***. But those tows are the reason for my claim being denied. My dealership is perplexed as am I why roadside services require maintenance records for a warranty claim.
When I spoke to *** (customer service rep) and *** (Supervisor) refused to refund the two payments made to them AND the charges from the dealership to find out the concerns with the vehicle. When I requested my refund bases on their fraudulent sales tactics, I was told that I would not be getting a refund because the policy was over 30 days. I was also told that maintenance records are required for warranty claims and is part of their “sales script,” I was irate. At NO POINT AT ALL during the sales process was I informed that towing and maintenance records would be required for any warranty request. *** refused to allow me the ability to listen to the sales conversation with Kara. She told me that I would need an attorney to be able to listen to the call.
CarShield has fraudulently taken 2 months worth of payments that I want returned to me, as well as the $100.00 in diagnostic and oil filter from ***
I was informed by *** and *** that I would NEVER be refunded my monthly payments and refused to escalate my call to anyone of additional authority (that actually has a conscience) to refund payments and diagnostic fees as a sign of good faith. It’s clear that CarShield commits fraud at the time a customer purchases their warranty and when a customer needs the warranty coverage.

CarShield Response • Jan 12, 2020

The sales representative your spoke with let you know to save your maintenance records, as they may be needed during repair claims.

Your service contract has been cancelled as you requested and you will be refunded the payments made.

Thank you for your comment. Please give us a call when you need our assistance!

I bought a 2008 Mini Cooper S 2 door. Very fun car to drive. It was in very good condition for a used vehicle. I bought it at the end of summer and enjoyed taking it out on a sunday drive. Nothing was wrong with it. I purchased Carshield the day after I purchased the mini. Carshield. Carshield told me that I cannot make any claims on it the first month. I couldnt understand why. You purchase this type of stuff if something does go wrong with your car, just so you could drive it to have a piece of mind driving your vehicle here and there and everywhere. This mini had 89000 miles on it. Nothing wrong with it. they took the vin number and the mileage and told me to take a picture of the dashboard while started and the mileage. Carshield told me to expect all of my paperwork in about 2 weeks or so. Carshield, never told me about different plans that they had. All they told me was that I was covered and if I had any claims, that there was a different website to send my claims to. I couldnt understand why there was a different website to go to, which was *** to make a claim. I needed to send my car into the mechanic to have the car looked at. Carshield did not want to cover anything that needed covered. It came down to where the computer board needed to be replaced. This was one of the reasons why I purchased the warranty, in case something like this went out.on the vehicle. Also, I have a towing bill and my car rental that needed to be covered for about a month. I put up a fight with them over this for about a month. I finally gave up and looked for to trade my mini off onto a different car! I was finally able to do this and the money down the drain for the mechanic and the towing and the car rentals that I had. I felt so wronged and scammed. And then weeks after this happened, I was watching a cable channel. The channel showed where people ended up being Greedy, which I think it was called Greed and the the people ended up either getting caught and put in prison or doing time in jail and fined. It just so happened when Carshield first came out, it was called something else, but it was similar to this and the owner found out ways to take advantage of people and take them for their money. So, to get back to calling in about how to file a claim, one day I was ran in circles on what I needed to do. I finally hung the phone up and emailed my car rental receipt in and my tow bill to *** and I still have not hear anything on what to do? I found out that they automatically put you in and classify you as gold, silver or bronze classification. I told them that no one ever explained that to me what so ever. They kept telling me that I did not read my papers that Carshield sent to me, to learn about any of this. I told them that I never got my papers yet. I was being accused of stuff that I didn't even know about and I finally asked about speaking to a supervisor and they told me that there was no Supervisor to speak to. There are so many things that need to be checked in on! It is quite clear that I did not do any of my homework on this Warranty. I wrote a good review at first, but as time went on, I totally regret giving them great stars and now everyone that reads my reviews will get taken for a scam. I feel so dirty now and very betrayed by this warranty company. Especially, the older people that needs reviews to go on, I am terribly sorry for putting a good review out there for you to get scammed. All because I was mislead also. Please get ahold of an Attorney or find a different reliable Warranty Company and make sure that you do your homework on them and get real reviews from someone you know!!!! Get the Concrete Evidence from a mechanic who knows one of these types of Warranties..
I have to give a star rating for Revdex.com only and this is not for Carshield!

CarShield Response • Jan 06, 2020

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We appreciate the opportunity to respond. The service contract each specific vehicle qualifies for is based on the year, make and mileage. Your vehicle qualified for our powertrain gold coverage. The covered components under your powertrain gold contract were explained to you during your sales call. We mailed you a copy of your service contract terms, and emailed you a copy for your review. Your repair facility called in a claim for your engine control module. This component is not listed in your powertrain service contract terms as covered. Your service contract does cover a great many components, but the ECM is not listed as covered. Your service contract has been cancelled as you requested. We will refund the payments you have made minus the towing fee that was paid.
Worth noting, CarShield customers have had over 8 million dollars in covered repair claims paid in the last 3 months alone.

I wasnt even reimbursed for my car rentals from when my mini cooper was in the shop. The while time my mini cooper was in the shop. I didn't even take a car rental out the while time either lime I should have. No one even responded back to me from when I called in and told carshield and they forwarded my call to aasclaims and I had to leave a message and never recieved a phone call back to take care if my rental reimbursement. I still have the receipts in my email saved. What is going to be done about this??? This needs to be covered as well as stated

My experience with carshield was a nightmare when it was time to need their help. The administration people insisted I send them all repair receipts that I had for the 13 years I previously owned the vehicle, they also wanted me to pay for the repair teardown. The administration of the third party then ran a Carfax on my vehicle and any repair receipts that I didn't send them they demanded I try and get them before they start any repairs. What a nightmare! Again, they use a third-party company when they decide that it's in their favor to help a customer.

CarShield Response • Jan 06, 2020

Your service contract administrator found that your GM dealer showed a problem back on 3/17/2019 that was not addressed. The condition was found to be pre existing the purchase date of your service contract. Your service contract has been cancelled since June 20, 2019.

When I contracted for the policy I was not told about excluded equipment. So when I got a $2000 bill to fix my cars, and was told Carshield wouldn't cover the repairs I was understandable shocked!

When I called a rep. they said they would see if they could get the price any lower they were happy to inform me that they could save me a whole $300 on parts.

I got this policy because our biggest problem with keeping cars is repair fees.

So, after 3 months paying for this policy, the first time I needed it I was denied!

We are a low income house, and a $500 repair bill is generally beyond our means, so changing the cost from $2000 to $1700 doesn't help us at all!

Buyer beware, these guys are fruads!

CarShield Response • Jan 06, 2020

Your vehicle qualified for a monthly powertrain service contract. You were mailed and emailed a copy of your service contract terms. The covered components were also explained when you called our office and made the purchase. Your repair facility called in a belt tensioner that is not listed as a covered component under your contract terms. Your contract administrator was able to offer you part sourcing to bring down the cost of your repair.

I had a problem with my car while I was driving, lots of shaking. I pulled into the place that does all my oil changes. The mechanic said it was the front axle. He said he wouldn't be able to get the parts until monday, so I left it there. I picked it up, paying for it out of my pocket. I turned it into Carshield, they turned me down. Their advertising says that you can take it to any mechanic of your choice which isn't true. They are denying the claim because I didn't check with them first on the mechanic that I would be using. They are saying that my mechanic never called or faxed them, but I was standing there watching them fax the information to Carshield. The charge was $398.00 that Carshield isn't covering.

CarShield Response • Jan 09, 2020

We have contacted your service contract administrator regarding the claim you have brought to our attention. They stated that a claim was submitted after the repair was completed. Your service contract terms state that all claims must have prior authorization before the repair is completed to be considered for payment. Your administrator also stated the the failed component, the vent valve, is not listed as a covered component in your contract terms.

Your service contract has cancelled for non payment. However, we will refund the 3 payments you have made as a gesture of goodwill.

You were mailed a check for 226.00 and your initial payment was credited back to your visa card *** on 1/10/2020. Visa generally takes 3-5 business days to show the credit to your account.

You have been refunded a total of $339.00. A refund in full

I had Carshield for about a year. I had an issue with 2007 Chevy Silverado with a bad fuel pumo. The shop, Jerry's Auto clinic, contacted Carshield and they were told they would not cover the part and I would have to pay out of pocket but did not tell me why. Fuel pump was supposed to be covered in the policy I had. I had to pay over $800 out of pocket. They didn't do anything but take money out of my account. I want this policy cancelled and my money back.

CarShield Response • Jan 09, 2020

We have contacted your service contract administrator on your behalf and they stated that a fuel pump repair was paid for in March of 2019 in the amount of $630.21.

They show that no other claims have been submitted.

You had a repair claim called in for an ABS Control Module. The powertrain service contract you purchased does not list this component as covered in the contract terms. It is not eligible for coverage.

Your service contract has been cancelled as you requested and you are in the process of receiving a refund.

Customer Relations

Worst company ever! They take advantage of senior citizen. Most mechanics will not deal with them. They owe me $315.00 and not pay. The Revdex.com rates them as F. I will post my experience with car shield on socal media every other day.

You authorized your repair facility to proceed with the repair before we could obtain cause of failure or approve the repair claim. No claims will be paid without prior authorization, per your service contract terms.

I feel that they are always there when in need. When I call they always answer. Very Satisfied.
