Carshield refused to pay for repairs on my car after it broke down. They are sending back the last payment I gave them, but they denied sending back the previous months payments I made on the policy.

CarShield Response • Dec 23, 2019

Your claims administrator denied your repair claim due to modifications to your vehicle.

Your service contract has been cancelled as you requested and you are in the process of being refunded in full. Your initial payment was credited to your Master Card *** on 12/4/2019 and your remaining refund will be mailed to the address you have provided within appx 10 business days.

Purchased an auto warranty on September 21, 2019 which they did not honor their commitment to replace and repair. Placed my car in the shop in Late October 2019 for a transmission and the warranty company refused to honor their commitment in Early November 2019. They cancel the policy after making monthly payments and said that I would get my refund back on the months paid. Now, refuse to send any money or payments.

CarShield Response • Dec 23, 2019

Your service contract has been cancelled by your contract administrator because your vehicle has a branded title. You are in the process of being refunded in full.

I was and am told by Carshield they would cover all up to the 100$ deductible.....I took my car to an authorized ASE mechanic to get a suspension issue repaired and they (carshield) only paid a third of the repair.

CarShield Response • Dec 23, 2019

We have contacted your vehicle service contract administrator, American Auto Shield (AAS), to get information on the repair claim you have brought to our attention. AAS has full authority over repair claim procedures, approvals and denials and is the obligated party under this service contract.

AAS stated that they spoke with you and explained that the service contract covers what it has verified in parts and labor costs. You also have a 100.00 deductible for each repair claim. Your shop was charging 304.95. Verified costs for parts and labor came to 232.99...minus your 100.00 deductible puts they payment to the shop at 132.99.

If you have any complaint regarding the payment of your repair, please contact AAS directly, the obligated party under this contract, ***. You may also see section M of your service contract for dispute resolution.

I am rejecting this response because:They have failed to refund me the full amount that I paid into there service. They need to refund me the total amount I have paid into the service minus what they paid for the repair.

Your refund is in process. Refunds generally take between 10 and 15 business days. With the holidays mixed in, there could be some delays with the post office deliveries.

Took my car in today. I knew what the problem was. The mechanic called Car Shield got approval within 20 min. My mechanic said was the best warranty company they have ever worked with.
Word to the wise know what your warranty covers. It never covers maintenance related issues. Thank you Car Shield.

CarShield Response • Dec 18, 2019

Thank you for kind words. We are glad your repair claim process went so smoothly. Please give us a call any time you need our assistance.

I've been paying monthly on an automobile warranty contract and the time comes to use it...Well I cant tell you what "***" I've just been told....for them to weasle out of covering something that my contract PLAINLY STATES is covered. The very reputable mercedes service dept and the very shady contract company have COMPLETELY opposite repair necessities. So who gets taken advantage of???? None other than the consumer!!!! I'm 100% certain that this is VERY COMMON for this company, somebody needs to stop it!!!!
Please dont give your $ away to these crooks!!!!

CarShield Response • Dec 27, 2019

Your service contract administrator spoke with you and let you know that the cause of failure was not listed as covered under your service contract terms. Your service contract is set to cancel for non payment in the next few days. We will refund the payments you have made in a good faith effort to resolve your complaint.

You could not help me with my make and model after you solicited me in the first place then called again a few more times asking for my business? It is pretty shoddy and I am sure so is the extended service plans you offer, get you act together would never recommend you and will fill out a google review as well as tell family and friends . Your rep was just doing what you pay him for not their fault. Your marketing company F minus Revdex.com is advising consumers to use caution when considering doing business with CarShield

This company is a scam. After paying $99 a month for 2 years they refused to to authorize payment for a transmission repair. It was caused by an axle joint seal and should have been approved. My car has been maintained excellently for all the years I've owned it. And after paying Carshield for two years with no claims ever requested they should have honored my one request to pay for a repair needed. I had the problem fixed at my expense at a highly reputable transmission service. They agreed it should have been covered by Carshield. This company should be shut down! !Their contracts are worthless. So many exclusions it practically negates ANY repairs to qualify for payment. Worst experience I've ever had.

CarShield Response • Dec 26, 2019

We have contacted your service administrator and they are not showing that a transmission claim has been submitted. Your service contract has been cancelled as you requested. We will refund your last 3 payments as a gesture of goodwill.

Customer Response • Dec 26, 2019

I posted this comment. The company has since responded by apologizing and stating they never received a request for payment for a transmission repair. They also stated they will reimburse me for my three last payments as a gesture of goodwill. That is very kind and once I actually receive that reimbursement I will post a more positive review.

Customer Response • Jan 07, 2020

It has been 3 weeks since refund of 3 payments was promised as a gesture of goodwill. No refund has yet been received.

CarShield Response • Jan 17, 2020

You should receive your refund within the next 7 business days.

I opened an account with CarShield and decided later that I wanted to cancel. I have contacted them several times and they continue to debit my account. So far they have taken two payments of $79.00. They misrepresented all the services they cover. They are not letting me out of the contract.

Customer Response • Dec 05, 2019

I signed up with Carshield back on October 28th, when I called, the pricing started at $129. When I spoke with the guy, he dropped it to about $119 then he put me on hold to speak with a Supervisor and when he came back, he told me it was $79. Not once was it explained that it was a completely different policy. I was under the impression that it was all the same policy for $79. I requested a hard copy of the contract because I wanted to know what I was buying. They gave me the runaround but finally said that they would provide it, by UPSP hard copy. I got my first charge on the 30th of October for $79. I never got anything during November and I finally called in on the 27th of November to cancel my service because I had yet to see my contract. I also sent them an email on the 30th saying I had tried to cancel on the 27th. When I called, because of the Holiday, they said they wouldn't be able to take care of it right away but they informed me that if I reached out and cancelled by the end of the month, I wouldn't be charged. Well, they charged me anyway for $79. I just received the contract yesterday. There's no way that they sent this when they were supposed to as it took over a month to receive. I think this whole process is fraudulent and intended to be so. Nothing was forgotten, you all just don't want people to know what they are buying. When I first called, the person I talked with seemed so nice but when I had an issue, everything was different.

Bought a used 2012 Dodge Charger R/T Hemi. Purchased the extended warranty policy with CarShield at the time of purchase. I was sold the platinum package. There was a spell of cold weather in November and noticed that the heater was not working in the car. I took the car to the nearest Dodge dealership and was told that it needed to have the actuator replaced after the initial inspection of the car. Dodge called CarShield and was told that the repair was approved. Dodge did an additional inspection after removing the dashboard and noticed that a second actuator was in need of repair. They called CarShield and was told that the part was NOT covered since the second call was made after the first approval. THIS IS A COVERED PART. Per Dodge, their experience with warranty companies is that it is not unusual for a mechanic to find additional problems after the initial inspection and have NEVER been told that a repair was not covered when they have had to call a company back.
The representative at CarShield was RUDE and stated that we may need to SUE Dodge to get the money back. The repair needed to be done and I in-turn paid for the repair out-of-pocket.
I later called CarShield back to cancel all of my policies with them (I have 2). The representative was apologetic and told me that I should not have been declined coverage on the second actuator since it was a covered part. She told me to fax a copy of the receipt and that I would be reimbursed for what I paid. She then asked if this was done, would I keep the policy. Since she stated that I would get my refund and politely helped me, I decided to keep the policies.
Fast forward one week later (12/4/2019) - I called CarShield to inquire about my refund and was told that I was NOT going to get a refund and that they already paid for the repair (NOT TRUE - they paid for one actuator not two). The CarShield rep was RUDE and indignant. I proceeded to tell him to cancel BOTH policies.

AAS has full authority over repair claim procedures, approvals and denials and is the obligated party under your service contract. (Show on the first 3 pages of your service contract booklet)

AAS stated that the first failed component that was submitted was for failure of the left temperature actuator. This repair was approved and paid for in the amount of $519.79. The second component that was called in by your repair facility, according to AAS, was a part that is not listed as covered under the contract terms. That is why AAS denied the second part of this repair claim.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:
I was told by the claims department when I contacted them after the necessary repair was made and paid for that I would be reimbursed, that rejection was an error. The original adjuster accused Dodge of possibly breaking the part after the car still blew out cold air an additional tests were run to determine the root cause. Dodge found that along with the actuators, the A/C distribution box was broken.
The mere fact that I was told after the fact that the repair should have been covered and sent necessary documentation as instructed. NO ONE called or communicated to me that there was a change until I placed the call to the business to get a status.

Sincerely

Yes .. I know.. Buyer beware....

I read everything on Carshields website including all of the plans they offered.

When I called, the man kept saying that I was getting the Platinum service and so I assumed that what I read was what it was and DID NOT read that they actually gave me the GOLD service.

I am really vexed because most of what is covered under platinum are the things that fail like plastic Intake Manifolds which are NOT covered under GOLD.

I have a great mind and really assumed Platinum which Covered everything I wanted......I really think that the people manning the phone need to double check EXACTLY which plan they are offering. ... especially to those that rely on what CARSHIELDs website says..... From what I read as rebuttals all calls are recorded... I would like to be contacted and have my phone call reviewed... Other than that.. I really think this is a great service and will continue with what I have... after calling them .....

READ YOUR CONTRACT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CarShield Response • Dec 26, 2019

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We have reviewed your sales call as you requested. The sales representative stated, "What you are going to qualify for is our Gold Plan. So, the Gold Plan covers the powertrain on the Volkswagen..." The the representative then goes on to tell you all the other components the Powertrain Gold Plan covers. The Platinum plan is never mentioned. With the mileage you have on your VW, our Gold Plan, which does cover a great many components, is the top plan you qualify for. Please feel free to give our customer service a call if you have any additional questions or if you ever need our assistance. ***. Thank you again for your feedback.

Car shield is a scam..they had no problem taking my money for 6 months..and when my car did have a problem..they aren't open on Sundays..so I had to wait until Monday to put claim thru..then came up with a million reasons why they would not pay for the repair..I'm warning people looking to get a plan with car shield.. DON'T..they are a scam

CarShield Response • Dec 23, 2019

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have checked with your service contract administrator regarding the repair claim you have mentioned. The repair you needed for seals or gaskets is not covered under your powertrain service contract terms. Your service contract has been cancelled as you requested and you are in the process of receiving a refund of the money you have paid into your service contract.

CarShield is a scam. After I bought the contract my transmission broke down. I took the suburban to the service department of a dealership and they told me I needed a new transmission. CarShield had me strip the transmission to determine if I needed one, which I did. Now they are not covering my claim and say that my transmission wasn't covered under the contract. 4 weeks in the shop and a bunch of frustrating phone calls with them, this is what I get. They stonewall and lie and claim they're waiting for you to give them information after you've sent them everything and did what they asked you to do. Now I'm stuck with a $2000 bill and no drivable car. They advertise that they have your back, no they don't.

CarShield Response • Dec 26, 2019

Your repair claim was denied because the failure was shown to have occurred before the effective date of your service contract. Your last two maintenance records showed your vehicle had the check engine light on with no indication as to why or what was done to resolve the problem. The odometer shows the vehicle has only moved 12 miles since your service contract has been purchased. Your service contract cannot offer coverage for the repair when it has been shown to pre exist the effective date of your service contract. Your service contract has been cancelled as you requested and you will be refunded in full.

Customer Response • Dec 28, 2019

The odometer only showed 12 miles because I bought the policy while the car was in California. We drive the suburban to California to visit my inlaws. I left it there with my wife and flew back to Texas. I have 2 other cars in Texas. My wife hates driving the suburban because it is a huge vehicle, thus she drove it very sparingly, thus only 12 miles since the purchase of the policy. We were planning on driving back to Texas with my inlaws in that bigger vehicle. Unfortunately it broke down. CarShield claims that the vehicle was not in working order prior to the purchase of the policy which is a LIE. That vehicle was driven from Texas to California without issues. I wouldn't have left that vehicle in California if there were issues with it. At the repair shop there were NO CODES retrieved from the onboard computer, yet CarShield insists that a pre existing condition exists. Again, they are a SCAM. When asked if they would have covered the repairs if the check engine light was not on, they couldn't give me a straight answer, therefore, they have already predetermined that ANY CLAIMS will be denied. They are a SCAM!

I had a warranty with CarShield. I went to the dealership to get my car looked at, and they notified me that they don’t take CarShield. I only use the dealership for repairs so this was not good news for me when CarShield says that I can go to ANY ASE certified repair shop. I then called CarShield to cancel my warranty, and get a refund for the down payment and 2 months that I’ve paid which have been used towards nothing. The sales guy when I purchased was extremely nice, told me that I could cancel at anytime and could be refunded. The employee that I spoke to the day I canceled was extremely rude, and I felt like she mocked me saying that I seemed upset about something. She also said that they’re customers knew that they couldn’t get a refund, when I said well there’s a bunch on Revdex.com that obviously didn’t know and she said that Revdex.com isn’t reliable. Giving out false information to go with what will make her/CarShield right in the situation. I ended the call very upset and without a refund which I was told I could get. CarShield withholding my money has made me moving forward from this situation extremely difficult.

I canceled my service on November 16th of 2019 for my bill that was due on November 19th of 2019. The company still took the amount of $129 from my bank account, I called to talk to a customer rep. However the representative was very rude in saying I will not get my money back and that I was lying. I've never experienced such horrible customer service ever! I explained I did not have the vehicle anymore so that is why I canceled however the representative continued to be rude and have sly remarks. I demand to have my money refunded immediately and also for the company to better there training or to monitor calls.

I bought an extended warranty from this company in 10/2019. I took my car to the shop because it needs a transmission repair. They are refusing to pay for the claim. They claim it is pre-existing issue. They won't even pay the $79 diagnostic fee. This issue is not a pre-existing issue. Now I have to pay the $79 diagnostic fee.

I purchased a service contract from car shield. My rear end went out on my 2016 Silverado 2500 HD and I called to file a claim. They denied the claim because of a lift they said I never told them about which I did. I talked to about 10 different people in which I got 10 different stories. They told me there was a difference in cost for lifted trucks. I offered to back pay the difference and provide proof that I bought the truck that way. The lady agreed and they still denied it. It cost me $2600 to fix and now my truck is back in the shop for an DEF heater reservoir and they denied it too. Now I’m out of another $650. I asked for refund and cancelation of service and they would not give me a refund. They say they paid $200 for my rear end. Since when does a reared cost $200?! And then they say they won’t give me a refund because it’s month to month coverage in which they haven’t covered ANYTHING. I am very displeased at the lack of integrity, honesty, and customer service I have received with them and I advise people to stay away. I gave them another chance after they screwed me out of my rear end but this is the last straw. I could have saved my money I paid them to put toward my repair bills.

CarShield Response • Dec 22, 2019

We contacted your service contract administrator to obtain information on the repair claim you have referenced. They stated that because you had a lift kit on the truck, as stated in your service contract terms, the repair would be ineligible for coverage. They let you know that you could pay the surcharge for lifted or suspension modified vehicles for future repairs, but this repair would not be covered.

Your service contract administrator did pay for the tear down that was performed to find cause of failure, in the amount of $290.00. We will agree to refund you in full minus the 290.00 that was paid in tear down fees.

Your initial payment will be refunded back to your Discover Card and the remainder due will be sent to the address you provided to us by mail.

I had to have a car repair and I thought it would be covered under my Carshield Policy. I was told that the warranty did not cover the needed repair. In addition, the person on the phone told me that there were other/better warrantys available, and I was never told that. I told them I wanted a refund and they said they do not return money. I called the bank to stop payments. They were also very rude on the phone. Now I have to rent a loaner until I get my car back.

CarShield Response • Dec 18, 2019

We appreciate the opportunity to respond to your complaint and resolve this matter.

Any failures that are pre-existing your service contract's effective date cannot be covered per your service contract terms.

Your service contract has been cancelled as you requested and you will be refunded in full any payments that have not already been refunded through chargebacks with your bank.

Customer Response • Dec 23, 2019

I requested my payments from September to November of 2019. So I'm not accepting the payment of $99 (November payment). I owed September $99, October $99. They were misleading not stating newer cars have the better warranty. Also, even though my car is a 2014 less than 100,000 miles, didn't know until I was told over the phone I was very upset when I heard that.

The service I was told I was purchasing was not what was given with my policy.
The entire claim was denied and then the Car Shield manager gets on the line and tells me Car Shield was never able to provide me with the 100% coverage regardless of milage in the first place. Now my claim is denied, I have payments made to this company that isn't providing coverage, and my car is still in the shop.

CarShield Response • Nov 27, 2019
