CarShield Reviews (%countItem)

January 26th I brought my 2004 Audi 86 Quattro to a nearby repair shop. I had, about 6 months earlier, purchased one of Carshield's warranties. The repair shop contacted me saying that they needed me to contact Carshield because there was a problem with the warranty. When I contacted Carshield they explained to me that they were going to cancel the contract due to the fact that I never told them about the car having a branded salvage title. I was never asked for this information and didn't know I would have needed to provide it. I was only asked if I transported people or if I used it for business. They ended up transferring me to someone else. I explained the situation to them and they said that shouldn't be a problem because they give warranties for this kind of title all the time. He ended up passing me off to someone else, this person told me the file was under review and that they would contact me when they found something out. Then they passed me off to someone else. They told me that the contract had been cancelled but when I asked why, they couldn't or wouldn't give me a reason. Even though the contract had been cancelled according to them, they are still taking payments.

CarShield Response • Feb 21, 2020

When you purchased your service contract, you were asked if your vehicle has a salvage or branded title.

We did contact your service contract administrator, American Auto Shield, on your behalf to check the status of the repair claim you have referenced. They stated that this claim was stopped due to the vehicle being a total loss in 2015. American Auto Shield advised that they can proceed with the current claim as long as the additional funding is collected for adding the surcharge for branded title. This would add approximately 25.00 a month to your payment.

If you wish to cancel your service contract, we would agree to refund you the payments you have made into your contract in full as a gesture of good will.

Please let us know which option you would like to take

Respectfully,

Purchased a warranty from this company. Had a service approved, however the service station was never paid by the company. I wound up paying them myself

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Your service contract administrator stated that your repair facility put a VIN number on the invoice that did not match the VIN number you provided when you purchased your service contract. Your admin requested that you send a copy of your vehicle registration to verify your VIN number. You stated that you would not provide any other documents to your admin other than the invoice.

Your service contract administrator cannot move forward with the claim without a matching VIN number on the invoice.

Your service contract has been cancelled as you requested. We will refund the 3 payments you have made into your service contract as a gesture of goodwill.

I bought carshield extended warranty on my 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe. Within two weeks the engine died. They paid nothing. The AC went out they replaced it no questions asked. At that time the catalytic converter was removed because I called them to find out if it was covered, or wasn't. Today the transmission needs repair and they're now saying because there's no catalytic converter, they won't cover the transmission. They said nothing about it when I had the AC serviced and nothing when I asked if the converter was covered. I've been on the phone for over two hours trying to get this resolved.

I've been without a vehicle for a week now and I need to get things done and that vehicle is my only transportation. They don't tell you anything until it's time to get work done

CarShield Response • Feb 25, 2020

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. American Auto Shield, your contract administrator and obligated party under the contract, stated that you removed the catalytic converter and was driving without it. Not going into the why of cancelling my policy, when I sent them a certified letter cancelling the policy, they keep harassing me to make payments. I have the return receipt and confirmation via 3 separate phone conversations saying the policy is cancelled and yet a month later I'm still being bombarded by emails, texts, and letters (the latter threatening collections) to pay the premium on the cancelled policy.

Car shield does not expose information like they should and they denied my claim on my vehicle. They took my money and whenever I finally did a claim they said because you are an Uber driver which I wasn’t actually doing they denied my claim. Now I told them I understand if that is a rule but can you help me out this one time and in the future we will change the rate and they just said no. I explain to them I didn’t know About that part of the policy and for them to show me in the contract that I did not sign and yet they still will not cover the repairs to my car. This was the worst idea I’ve ever had and I would recommend that no one uses car shield ever!

I filed a claim on the 21 st day zagged opening the policy...You have to wait 20 days, but I actually had an issue on the 21st day...They declined my claim, saying my issue happened on the 3rd of January per the Mechanic...which is not true...I was actually driving home from Georgia on the 3rd of January....Even though, I asked if they recorded my call, which was clearly on January 6, 2020...I also contacted the Dealership that I chose for the repair...I told the GM what happened and he was familiar with Extended Auto Warranties...The car was towed, utilizing Cst Shields roadside assistance....They wouldnt even look at the evidence which included my maintenance log books, which I had written the issue in on the 6th....They are intentionally changing the date do it falls within the waiting period, hence they wouldn’t have to pay...even after asking them to look at the evidence....They told me...” it has been decided and declined” and that was the end of the call...They wouldn’t even revisit it proving it happened on the 6th, not the 3rd....they took my words snd twisted them around, even though the Dealership/Repair Shop clearly agrees with me...I am on disability and am ready to go back to work..because of this, I am losing the opportunity, after 15 years to go back to work as an Electrical Engineer with a salary over $100,000...because of this fraudulent activity, I have lost this opportunity with several companies due to a lack of a car

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have contacted your service contract administrator on your behalf to get information on the repair claim you have referenced. American Auto Shield (AAS) is your service contract administrator, as was stated when your purchased your service contract. AAS is the obligated party under your service contract and has full authority over repair claim procedures, approvals and denials.

AAS stated that they spoke with you on January 22, 2020 and you said that you had driven your vehicle to Georgia. After returning home on January 3rd you noticed that the oil light was on. You checked the gears and realized your vehicle would no longer move. At that time you said you would send in records and your log book. No verifiable records were sent in to your administrator. Your service contract administrator, AAS, determined that this failure did occur before the effective date of your service contract.

If you have any further dispute regarding AAS's claim decision, you would need to address that dispute directly with American Auto Shield. See section M of your service contract regarding dispute resolution between yourself and American Auto Shield. All disputes are resolved through the Denver Revdex.com's arbitration rules. Of 2019 took car to repair shop for minor fuel leak, which was covered under the contract and they wouldn't cover it saying they sold out to auto shield in August of 2018, but did not inform me about the change until I called them to cover the bill.sent them a copy of the only contract I had and they said that wasn't their contract and wouldn't cover the cost of the repair.

I just want them to make sure they know about recalls on vehicles they have under their warranty so that you can go in and if there is a recall on a vehicle then they make sure they check that out to every expense before going ahead with a repair that might be covered by the recall.

CarShield Response • Feb 11, 2020

Our claims administrator always check for recalls on our member's vehicles. Thank you for bringing this up! Good point!

The experience was good the only thing I didn't like about it was when my mechanic called me back and said I have to pay $200 instead of $100 for some unknown reason. He tried to explain it to me.

CarShield Response • Feb 11, 2020

We see your starter was replace and paid in the amount of 598.77. Did you have any other services performed, like an oil change or battery replacement?

About a year ago I had a contract with Carshield for coverage on my vehicle. I had an incident where I needed to use said coverage and found out from the dealer that the coverage would not cover all the parts that needed repairs. This was not disclosed to me when we did the contract. I reached out to the business to end our arrangement and get a refund for what I had paid. They, as far as I know, ended the contract but never provided the refund. I want a full refund for the time I was with them as they did not fulfill their side of the contract.

CarShield Response • Feb 13, 2020

We contacted your service contract administrator to obtain information on the repair claim you have referenced. American Auto Shield stated that, to date, there has not been a repair claim submitted.

However, per your contract terms, at the administrator's election, repair or replacement of covered parts will be made with parts of like kind and quality. These parts can be parts your repair facility provides. If your repair facility is charging more for their parts than the nationally recognized parts and labor guide shows, you may choose to use their parts and pay the difference.

Your month to month service contract was cancelled at your request in November of 2018. No refund is due.

I signed up for Carshield a few months ago. I was told when I signed up for the warranty program that after the first repair it goes to 100% if I wanted to continue with the program to call and switch to another plan. I never called or had any repairs on the car. I paid out 19.99 for 6 months and having no repairs done on the vehicle. On 1/29/2019 I called due to the dive belt on my vehicle went out and spoke to a representative (didn't catch a name) and was told that I was covered at 30% and as long as I took it to an ASC certified repair shop, I would be covered at 30%. I called back again to verify the information that I was told and the representative, ***, and she advised me that I had towing and covered for up to $75.00 and that as long as they did shipped in parts I would be fine. I called a few tow companies and they didn't know what I was talking about. I called the repair shop before hand to get an estimate and was told 165.00 to get the service done on my car. I got my vehicle to a repair shop and the service guy Matthew, who was the manager, called Carshield and they called me back. I called back at the number I was given in the voice mail, wasn't given an extension, 800-531-1925 with the claim number *** was not able to speak to anyone. I called the number that shows up on my statements *** spoke to Darius who transferred me to that department. I spoke with *** who transferred me to Patrick. When I spoke to Patrick, He told me that I didn't have any of the coverage that I was told about previously and that I would have to pay for the part to the tune of 68.24.He advised me that I didn't even have the towing coverage. I did get my vehicle fixed but I paid for it OUT OF POCKET. I paid 90.00 for the tow truck, who didn't know anything about carshield and roughly 105.00 for the repair.

This is totally false advertising and scamming. When you see the commercial it states that it would be covered at 100% when you are not.

CarShield Response • Feb 18, 2020

You purchased an AutoGoldCard repair negotiation membership. Because your vehicle was having mechanical problems when you called to inquire about a service contract, this is the option your vehicle qualified for. It was explained at the time you purchased the membership, that this would offer repair negotiations by an experienced mechanic speaking with your repair facility, to make sure you would be getting the best price on parts and labor. This service also provides towing, emergency tire service, lockout service, battery service and fuel delivery service.

Customer service can be reached ***, if you have any additional questions regarding the AutoGoldCard Membership.

We spoke with you on February 10th and advised on how you could submit your towing bill for reimbursement. You agreed to keep you membership at that time.

I am rejecting this response because: This was not a Simple case of a Spark Plug / Ignition Coil failure . I called CarShield when I determined the Engine damage was more than a Spark Plug / Ignition Coil failure .I had the Lincoln ( covered vehicle ) towed to a Lincoln Dealership ( Findlay Lincoln ) to inspect / determine the extent of the Engine Damage . Their Service Representative *** , said their was internal engine damage ,based on their initial inspection ( using a bore scope )He noticed piston cylinder bore damage .He ,after many frustrating phone calls to CarShield, said a Top-End engine tear down would be necessary, to determinethe extent of the Engine damage .CarShield Claims representative refused to authorize any engine tear-down .The CarShield representative said I would have to Pay for any engine inspection ( a determination of engine damage cannot be made ,without this tear-down)*** ,the Lincoln Dealership Service Representative told me ,it was his opinion that there was substantial engine damage, as a result of a parts failure . CarShield is not accepting Any responsibility for What has occurred .They are ,deliberately, refusing to process this Claim,by invoking a clause claiming this is ,simply,Spark Plug Ignition Coil failure, when in fact the damage goes far beyond spark plugs / Coils. They refused to cooperate won the the Lincoln Service Representative ,refused to Pay for internal engine damage inspection ( which would have revealed covered engine damage pursuant to their Contract ) CarShield has a well-documented history of arbitrarily rejecting claims such as this . I am rejecting this response because:whomever is the Administrator of this Contract is Responsible for Not living up to the Tenets of this Contract. My initial call to CarShield was met with a Flat denial of Coverage, on the 2005 Lincoln Aviator that is on the Contract . The initial inspection and Test indicated quote " A bad Ignition / Coil failure ,on the number 6 Cylinder" I was Not going to put in a Claim ,with CarShield, for a Simple.repair ,like this. I purchased New Coils / Plugs ,and was going to effectuate repairs ,myself. Upon further inspection, I determined this was far more Catastrophic engine damage, then assumed .I tried to arrange Towing, through CarShield ( they claim to include that service ) but couldn't reach them .I had the Lincoln rowed to Findlay Lincoln ,spoke to their Service Representative ( ***) and told him Not to worry, as I had CarShield to cover Any costs. Jose had his Mechanic conduct an Initial inspection of the motor ,including the use of a Bore Scope ,to ascertain if there was internal engine damage. Jose ,again called a CarShield Claims representative, who turned down the Engine Inspection ! He was told if the Customer wanted to Pay for the inspiration, that was acceptable. Upon my Authorization, the tear down revealed internal engine damage, which ,pursuant to the Contract with CarShield should have been covered. I am now faced with the Cost of an Engine Replacement, the Dealership charging to install this engine , and the extensive costs incurred, by me .I feel CarShield does NOT live up to their Advertisments making it seem you have NO WORRYS ,should you have an Engine problem.Their Commercial states ,you won't have ANY BIG REPAIR BILLS to worry about. Thank you for your comment. We are always happy to speak with you. Give us a call whenever we can be of assistance!

I cancelled my policy by phone on 11/05/2019. At that time I was told to send in a letter by 12/5/2019 and they would consider the policy canceled on the day I called in. They said to include my name, address, phone number, car information regarding my 2010 Mini Cooper and they would process a refund. I was first told the refund would take up to 30 days, and then I was told their still processing it about 45 days into it. They changed by cancellation date to the day the processed the letter and not the say the letter was received. Today is day 65 or 66 and I’ve called several times and I’ve been told it’s still being processed one customer service person told me it’s a CA policy so it takes long time to get it from one system to the other, and most recently a customer service agent told me I don’t have a refund coming.

I contacted *** who was the financing company and they sent CarShield my refund on 01/06/2020. They said it’s $800+ dollars. CarShield continues to give me the run around. I just want my money back.

This company was quick to take my money for my down payment and quick to take my monthly payments, yet cannot generate a refund that is due to me, even have they’ve nickel & dimes our mechanic on a necessary repair, as it was supposedly a non-covered part.

Where’s my refund???

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We do not have record of receiving your written request for cancellation.

However, in a good faith effort to resolve this matter for you, we will get your contract cancelled as 11/5/2019 and issue any prorated refund you are due. You should be receiving your refund in approximately 15-20 business days.

I am rejecting this response because:

I have spoke to OmniSure, Auto Shield and Car Shield regarding my cancellation and I that the certified return receipt from the USPS that my letter was received on 11/24/19. Even with that letter being received they canceled my policy as of 11/29/19. Of all the money we paid in - and even though the finance company OmniSure a refund was processed on our account in the amount of $800+, somehow CarShield/AutoShield are only refunding us $135.40 and there’s not one person at any of the companies that can explain why we paid $1500+ for the last 13 months, only 1 claim was approved for $430 to which we still had to pay $1600 to get our car fixed and only drove our car 10,090 miles in that year - can tell us how they came up with such a small refund. So no, I DO NOT accept your response and I am not happy with the amount they’re refunding or the fact that it took longer than 60 days to even get this answer.

Car Shield, American Auto Shield nor *** have been in contact with me and have not received a refund check. So this problem has not been resolved. Thank you very much

CarShield Response • Mar 31, 2020

A refund check in the amount of $918.58 has been mailed. You should be receiving it shortly.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

Today is 7 days since they responded and that would’ve plenty of time for the check to have been received. Still haven’t received it. This is exactly what happened the first time they said they were sending a check. It took over 30 days to get the first check and then they sent it 2nd day air after 45+ days. Now it’s been 25+ days and no check.

Sincerely

CarShield Response • Apr 13, 2020

Tracking information shows that you should be receiving your refund check no later than April 17, 2020. We apologize for the delay.

I have been trying to get my vehicle repaired and I filed claim with Car Shield and I have been getting the run around. I have called several times and received different information and can’t get my vehicle fixed. Now today I called and spoke with someone that’s from American Shield that says they handle the claims after a discussion with the rude customer service agent I learned that my vehicle was considered pre existing but I wasn’t aware of that when I took out policy. This was never explained to me and also I was told I need to get mileage but if vehicle is broke then I couldn’t add any miles to it. I am very upset about this because I have paid each month for the last 3 months and this is the service I have received which is none. I would like this resolved ASAP

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We appreciate the opportunity to respond.

We have contacted your service contract administrator on your behalf to get information on the repair claim you have referenced. American Auto Shield (AAS), stated that they requested service records for your vehicle in order to move forward with your repair claim. The claim is still showing as pending. AAS spoke with you on February 4th and went over your service contract terms regarding no coverage for failures pre-existing the effective date of your service contract.

When you purchased your service contract, the representative you spoke with let you know that no pre-existing failures would be covered. You also received a copy of your contract by mail and email with a 30 day free look period. Your contract terms also state that no failures pre-existing the effective date of your service contract will be covered.

Your service contract has been cancelled as you requested and we will agree to refund you the 3 payments you have made to resolve this matter.

Respectfully,

Customer Relations

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:
They steadily accepted my payments for 3 months without letting me know this matter and also they never told me abt American car shiekd. Until I filed a claim

Sincerely

I have had 2 policies with this company since 2018, I recently had a claim that was denied due to carbon build up(Slug),every vehicle has a normal amount of slug in it, my mechanic verified that the level in my vehicle were normal, and would not have been the cause of the engine issues. I feel this company misleads consumers then comes up with this excuse not to honor the policy people pay good money for.

CarShield Response • Feb 13, 2020

We have contacted your service contract administrator, American Auto Shield (AAS), on your behalf to check the repair claim you have referenced. As shown on the first 3 pages of your service contract, they are the administrator of your contract and the obligated party under the contract terms.

AAS said they spoke with you on February 3rd and explained the denial of this claim due to 1/4 to 1/2 inch of heavy sludge in the top end of the engine causing lack of oil pressure. Your contract terms do not cover engine failure related to excessive sludge build up.

As AAS advised when they spoke with you, please see section M of your service contract if you have any further dispute regarding their claim denial. All disputes between yourself and AAS regarding claim decisions can be resolved through the Denver Revdex.com's arbitration rules. AAS's contact information, as shown in your contract, ***

Carshield has denied my claim on repairs covered under warrenty stating the reason as that my vehicle holds a salvaged title. They claim to have obtained this information from carfax. I spoke with several, less than helpful, representatives at carshield trying to explain that my vehicle is not under a salvaged title. I also emailed carshield customer service a copy of the title and a letter from the financial Institute which holds the title stating that it is in fact NOT a salvaged title. I requested that in light of this evidence they reinstate my warrenty and pay the vehicle repair and rental car cost as covered in my original policy. They have not responded.
Further, I do not understand why a company would insure a vehicle and take customers money before performing an initial title or VIN search instead of waiting until a file is claimed and denying service. If this inaccurate information was brought to light from the start I could have taken steps to correct it before purchasing my warrenty. As it stands, I have now paid carshield over $1100.00 they refuse to refund me for services they refuse to perform. This is theft, fraud, and unethical.

We
have heard back from ***'s service contract administrator, and
they have stated the below. If *** has any further questions
regarding her claim denial, she can contract American Auto Shield
directly.
*** will be refunded in full all monies she had paid into her coverage. She should receive her refund in 10-15 daysAlthough
*** has a statement from her credit union/bank and a title
showing no “branding” (for a salvage/total loss), the CarFax report
shows that when the ORIGINAL owner, owned the car, it had been
vandalized on or about 06/12/11 and the insurance company declared it a
“total loss” (see below).According
to the verbiage in the contract, this branding disqualifies the vehicle
from coverage. See Section D (Exclusions), Paragraph 7:REPAIRS
IF YOUR VEHICLE IS: A NON-U.S. SPECIFICATION MODEL, IS RATED OVER ONE
TON PAYLOAD CAPACITY, IS A LEMON LAW BUYBACK VEHICLE, IS A GREY MARKET VEHICLE OR HAS EVER HAD A TITLE INDICATION OF SALVAGE,
JUNK, BRANDED OR OTHER DESIGNATION INDICATING THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN
STOLEN, WRECKED, DESTROYED, WATER DAMAGED, OR OTHERWISE DAMAGED TO THE
EXTENT THAT IT WAS CONSIDERED TO BE UNECONOMICAL TO REPAIR;

I have signed up for car shield to have a peace of mind. I have a 2015 Hyundai Tucson. My car went into the shop as of January 2nd. The first auto shop I took it to refused to work with car shield/ America auto shield.
I took it to the Hyundai dealer ship. They did their diagnostic informed car shields and did their part. An adjuster from auto shield went to also take a look at the car. That was back on the 10 of January. I have been renting a car since my car had been in the shop. Every time I call they tell me it’s still under review. I have send over all the documents they have asked of me. No one can give me a straight answer. It’s been stressful to say the least.

CAVEAT EMPTOR!
If its too good to be true (flurry of TV ads) than its not.
In fact, CAR SHIELD and companies of the same ilk spend more on TV ads than on fairly
handling earnest and honest claims.
There is a reason why they are not Revdex.com Accredited.

Look upon this as what it is.... a type of insurance policy, and like nearly all insurance companies, the people you BUY from are NEVER the people who adjudicate the claims process.
Remember these are not the benevolent organizations they hold themselves up to be, but instead
are 'for profit' companies, and high profit, at that, and whose efforts are concentrated on NOT PAYING CLAIMS.
If there is any angle that will allow them the latitude to deny a claim, they'll use it!!!
There is a reason why these policies are so hard to understand.
THEY WANT THE AMBIGOUS NATURE!!!!

Frankly, the odds are stacked against policyholders of these 'warrantees'
You can head this off at the very beginning by doing your due diligence when
choosing a vehicle to buy.
