Lesson learned - deal direct with travel businesses that have government oversite or at least a professional organization that has an ethics obligation. Expedia is neither. In February of 2018 I booked a round trip airline reservation through the Expedia website. Well within the 24 hour airline grace period I realized I had used the wrong return date. I returned to the webpage, found my reservation and changed my reservation to reflect the correct return date. I quickly received a confirmation email with the corrected information. When I received my credit card bill in March, I saw I was being charged for both the first reservation with the wrong return date and for the corrected reservation. At the same time I received a notice from Expedia that they had rebooked my outgoing flight due to a cancellation by the airline. If the rebook was unacceptable, I was prompted to go to the webpage and make changes without penalty. I did that, but in trying to navigate the webpage I unintentionally cancelled the outgoing flight completely. Since I needed to address the double billing, I called the customer service line. Working my through the voice prompt, I finally reached a person. As I explained the two issues the call was dropped. I called back, through the prompts and again told my story to a second representative and was again cut off. Third time the representative was able to view my reservation record and agreed that I had made the date change well within the 24 hour grace period. He told me my next step was to call *** and get the billing corrected. Expedia had no involvement in billing. He then helped me rebook my outgoing flight. All the people I spoke with very polite and tried to be helpful. In all I was on the phone for 2.5 hours. I did a follow up by email with *** explaining that I had made the change within the allowed 24 hours and needed to have the billing for the first reservation with the incorrect date reversed. Expedia had the electronic record to prove it. I presumed *** and Expedia would check the record and make the correction. But because of all air travel the horror stories, I also notified my credit card company that I was disputing the charge for the outbound flight with the wrong date. I though the situation was taken care of until this past weekend (6 months later) when I received a collection notice on behalf of Expedia for the ticket with the wrong date. I am paying because I surly don't expect any help from a collections company. Expedia has the records to show I made the corrections within the grace period. I had to contact the airline with no proof that I had made the change in the grace period. While I could complain the DOT about ***, Expedia is unaccountable. And, I do not understand how Expedia can set collections on me, and be paid, when they said they had no control over billing and it was the airline that handled payments.

Poor customer service. I am trying to get an issue resolved with no luck. Unresponsive to email. It is very frustrating to say the least.

Complete bait and switch. Go to finalize a ticket deal that takes less than five minutes and then BOOM, your price goes up from $850 to $1200. Cancel, go shop again and rinse/repeat.
I am shocked that Expedia uses this as their business model. I also checked the price with the listed airlines and it did not change.

Booked a travel package of round trip airfare and rental car for a one day business trip and was quoted $256.32. I made the purchase and received my confirmation and receipt for $256.32. Days later, I noticed on my credit card statement that Expedia had charged me $263.13.
Granted, it's only a $6.81 difference, and normally I wouldn't even notice, but since I was expensing the trip with my company, I needed everything to match up on my expense report.
I sent Expedia support an email alerting them to the difference, with a screenshot of the charge on my statement to back up my claim. I quickly got a response, which said, "Upon checking our records we verified that you booked a package reservation with the amount od USD 253.32 without the Insurance you purchased. The additional USD 10.00 is the additional fee for the Insurance you have purchased on Expedia."...except there was no $253.32 anywhere on the receipt and no $263.32 charged to my card.
Clearly there was more of an issue somewhere, so I sent a screenshot of the itinerary that they sent me, which showed the the airfare, rental car and insurance policy all included in the $256.32 displayed on the receipt.
They then replied, "Based on our system, the total amount charged for your booked reservation is amounting to USD 263.13.
We hope the above clarifies your query."
Well, obviously I was charged that amount, because that's what I told YOU, based on my credit card statement. However, that is not the answer to my question.
I then asked for an updated itemized receipt displaying the breakdown of the $263.13 charge, since all I had was one detailing a charge of $256.32, and the itemized receipt would fix the situation for expensing purposes.
They replied that "we are unable to provide a receipt with the breakdown of your package reservation as Expedia can only provide you a copy of your itinerary as a receipt for this type of bundle deal.
If you would notice the vacation package reservation was offered at a discounted rate and that the total amount that you were offered for the vacation package did not reflect any breakdown along the booking process.
The rates that we have for vacation package reservations are contracted rates with our partner vendors and we do not have a breakdown for this as it is put together by the system.
Nevertheless, we have seen that the total amount you have paid for your reservation was USD 263.13."
So basically, Expedia feels that they are free to quote you whatever they want, then subsequently charge you a completely different amount, while only providing a receipt for the quoted amount.
I have disputed the charge with my bank, and I will be choosing a different company for booking travel in the future.
I would highly recommend that everyone do the same.

Expedia is the worst booking site. They Confirmed and took money for a hotel reservation but then when arriving at the hotel it, there were no rooms available. The refund would take 3 to 5 business days. This is horrible service and stealing money for services not provided. No one should book anything through Expedia!!!

Terrible customer service. One of the most horrible, time consuming experience I've ever had. Tried to redeem a credit voucher that I paid $56 for then found out the airline charges $300 for the cancellation. Kept me on the phone for a total of 3 hours, dealt with multiple associates and supervisors - none of whom could solve the issue, which after 3 hours, is still a mystery to me. Asked to speak with the supervisors manager and after 15 minutes on hold, got the most disingenuous person of the bunch. Will never use Expedia again.

This traveling service single handledly RUINED my birthday in just a couple hours! Went to book a trip and was told my card was incorrect, I made changes and was then told I had insufficient funds. Upon checking my bank account Expedia STOLE $275 from me! I was told my card was incorrect and received no email. No trip was booked but If I did not check the bank I wouldn’t have known. Then I called to clear up the issue and was told it was a mistake that would fall off in 3 days. In 3 days the trip will go up and I have a life so I have to plan. Once the money was returned I was given a $100 credit bt that was a joke! I go to the app to use the credit and it says I can’t. So I go to book online and the trip went from 800-1400! And that was the only way to use the credit. Now I go back to the app to book and the trip is 1400! Something I can no longer afford! I was still not given a reason as to why a random $275 was stolen from my account. So thank you Expedia for single handedly ruining my birthday within a couple hours!

I am giving Expedia 1 stars due that I am not able to post my review if I don´t do so, but for the way they handled my experience I shouldn't. I have been an Expedia customer for almost all of the trips I have booked and have had minor issues with them. I called Expedia due that I had a death in the family and needed to make changes to my existing reservation that I had made several months prior to celebrate my birthday with my spouse as we both share the same birthday, that's when the ordeal began. First time I called I was on the line with an agent for over 2 hours finalizing my call stating that he needed his supervisor to approve the changes and I will be receiving an email within 24 hours; as I never received the email I called the following day and was told that they would submit the case to a different supervisor for faster response; once again I never received any response via email from any supervisor which prompted me to call once again making this my 3rd time in which I was assisted by a lady who told me that there was no notes on the account that stated any of my previous calls. I had to explain everything that was happening once again in which I was given the same response that they would have a supervisor call the hotel for approval and would then send me an email which I also never received. I called once again extremely upset and was then told that my reservations had been cancelled and would be refunded to my credit card within 7 business days and that I would have an airline credit which wasn't what I requested I just wanted to make the changes to my bundle package. After all this happened I just gave up and had to rebook all of my vacation once again using my money due that I still have not received my refund as of yet. DO NOT USE EXPEDIA FOR YOUR VACATION THERE'S OTHER TRAVEL AGENCY WITH BETTER REPUTATIONS AND BETTER DEALS. EXPEDIA IS A FRAUD USING FOREIGNERS TO HANDLE THEIR CALLS; AGENTS THAT YOU CAN HARDLY UNDERSTAND.

We are a small hotel property (***, Barbados) using the services of Expedia to promote our property. There is the process of them collecting their portion of commission before paying out to us what is owed. Then they ask us to submit our invoices which we have done this each time, but was late on submitting some invoices. We usually made application via fax which was an option in submission of invoices.
After a few months we realised that payments for the invoices were not paid; We the submitted a listing of the outstanding guest of what was owed to us ( a statement). They did not honor this and so we then sent a Fedex package with all the information; this was done after letters, emails, calls to them, faxes, anyway we could get through to them. They refused to pay us for that portion of business but still we kept up doing business with them.
As a small business you would think that Expedia could bend their rules a little to compensate us, but no they did not. We have tried over the years to plead with them to make the payment. All they would say is that they won't pay after a year had past.
Over the years Expedia would ask for numerous changes when it is beneficial to them - Asking us to cancel bookings on late notice on long term booking and to give back deposits to their customers when their portion of the payment (commission) was already paid. They refuse to follow your cancellation policies and usually call to make a fuss if you refuse to comply with what they are asking you to do. They expect you to offer very low rates on their system so they can increase for they benefit and even tamper with what your property place on the site.
If you ask them to cancel your business with them, they block all of your rooms to make it look as if you are fully booked. Then they set up lots of companies where you are paying them to advertise on what you think are different platforms. ***, ***, and the list goes on.
They cut across clients bookings and take over the booking; As on occasions a client may call to check on a booking which they thought that they themselves had made, then to realise that somehow Expedia cut across line to claim the booking; In some cases we have had clients cancel once they suspect this had happened. Expedia even wanted us to pay commission on these bookings.
Anyone looking for *** Barbados, we are not longer affiliated with Expedia. We can be reached at ***; also ***

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I ONLY PICKED (1) STAR BECAUSE I HAD TO-I'D HAVE CHOSEN NEGATIVE STARS IF IT WERE AN OPTION.
I've been a long time user of Expedia for travel all over the world. I recently took a trip to Omaha as my son was interviewing with the ***. My office unfortunately double booked my flights and I contacted Expedia to make a change...it was $650!!! Just to change, no additions were made to the trip. Then even after I called to let them know I wouldn't be on the first flight (since it was double booked) they cancelled my flight home leaving me stranded!!!
I spent 3+ hours on hold with them when I should have been spending time with my son before it was RELUCTANTLY resolved by one of their corporate agents. I spoke to several customer service reps who although nice could not assist me, placed me on hold for long lengths of time and did not speak clear English.
DO NOT BOOK WITH EXPEDIA, THEY MAY HAVE CHEAP RATES BUT YOU WILL HAVE PROBLEMS!!!

I booked a vacation through Expedia. Expedia *double chargedme for the purchase, then *partiallyrefunded the duplicative charge. This partial refund has made it difficult to fight the dispute with the credit card company, because the amounts did not match up. As a result, I have now paid an extra $1,000 for a vacation package that should have been $1,400.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

I will not even give Expedia any type of stars for the way they handled my experience. I have been an Expedia customer for almost all of the trips I have booked and have had minor issues with weather refunds here and there but never like I did this past June. I decided to book a trip for my parents to go to *** for their birthdays and anniversary. I booked air, hotels and an excursion for them- everything was great and everyone was happy. On August 17th a week before my parents were going to leave they decided they wanted to change the hotel I chose and upgrade to one they wanted. They used the money I had put towards the old hotel and cancelled an excursion for the amount of $242.50 which I myself received the email saying I would be refunded. I had to call Expedia 4 Times bc I never received the refund- they told me to call my bank, which I did and they also did not see a refund. Today I called Expedia to further investigate and got to bank on the line and they finally realized they DID NOT refund me but another card and because it was already processed there is nothing they could do. Nothing at all even though it was their fault for not getting my money back to me! I sat on the phone today for 2 hours waiting for a representative to get back on the phone with me and eventually had to hang up because I have 2 young children I had to get to sleep. I am extremely upset with the lack of looking into the issue initially and me having to call back 4 times to finally know that they completely messed up, will not take any ownership for the problem and now I am out 242 as they continue to profit by just saying they are sorry. It’s unfair and unjust and should not be just ok to say sorry when it comes to people’s money. Do not book with Expedia- you are just a number to them and they could care less if you get screwed.

Customer Response • Sep 11, 2018

I would also like to say Betty W from the Las Vegas headquarters called me back and pretty much said if I didn’t ask my mother for the refund back that they wrongly put into her account and not into mine that there is nothing more that they can do. That they would have to charge m mothers account to issue my refund- so they are ok charging people’s accounts but they won’t take ownership that it was wrongly refunded in the first place and they could care less about their customer to fix it themselves. She was rude and made my experience with Expedia even worse. DO NOT USE EXPEDIA THEY COULD CARE LESS ABOUT YOU SND YOUR MONEY!

I made a hotel reservation in *** for the Texas State games that my child was participating in nearly 2 weeks before reservation. It was difficult (at the time) to find any kind of decent hotel because the whole town was hosting this big event. I booked a hotel through Expedia. I received a confirmation email saying that I did not need to contact the hotel to confirm the reservation. Upon arrival at the hotel, they could not find the reservation. They did not have any rooms available either. I showed them my email. They told me that sometimes the company does not send it through to the hotel. The hotel staff called Expedia. Expedia acknowledged the error with the hotel and said that they would find me another room somewhere else and cover the cost because of their error. They could not find a room. As they were on the phone (after 45 minutes), a reservation canceled and the hotel had a different room available. They let Expedia know. All I had to do was call in and verify my phone number. Once on the phone, it was a different story. They didn’t lose the reservation, the hotel did. They were the ones that made the error. After an hour of hassle on the phone and talking to a supervisor to have them make recompense for their mistake, they offered $100 refund or nothing. I was so exhausted, I accepted. They sent me a confirmation email minutes later. A month later, realized the refund never made it to my card. I emailed, no response. I called and got the run around. After almost two hours of “looking into it” and being on hold, they claimed it was a canceled refund and issued another email for refund. It has been 3 weeks since and no refund. I’m so disappointed that a big company like theirs is so dishonest. I will never recommend or use any of their services!

events:
1. I have a hotel reservation via ***. They apparently make a reservation with the hotel via Expedia.
2. After my stay, I was charged $514.89 for the hotel stay even though I used my *** points for the stay.
3. I followed up with ***; and they reached out to Expedia.
4. When Expedia investigated the issue, they informed that the hotel made a mistake and they should reimburse me within 10 days. This was communicated to me on Aug 14th.
5. It's been ~5months since the stay, and 1 month since the re-reimbursement email, and I haven't received my money yet!!
I am filing Revdex.com complaints for all three organization. This is not nice! and I want my money back!!

Horrible customer service!!! I was told a hotel reservation was made in my name through Expedia.com and I was charged for this hotel reservation even though I do not have an Expedia account. I contacted customer service to help me figure out what was going on. The representative I spoke to was very condescending and acted like she didn't believe me that I did not have an account with them. I asked her to look my name up in the system, and she said it was impossible to do that. When I asked her to transfer me to someone who could assist me, she transferred me to ***. I will never use Expedia for any services!!!! And I gave a 1-star rating because zero was not an option.

I booked a hotel through Expedia on May 5 and canceled it on May 22. I never received a refund of my deposit which was supposed to happen. I have called Expedia 7 times and they refuse to do anything unless you are on telephone hold, which they just leave you on for in excess of 30 minutes and never come back. You can never talk to the same person so you have to wait every time for them to go through the notes and start all over!
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!

Expedia , without a doubt has the worst customer service of any business I have ever dealt with! I recently made a reservation at a hotel in Amsterdam. I had to change it because my flight reservations were changed delaying my arrival by about 12 hours which meant I would arrive early in the am the next day. I went to the website which would only allow me to cancel the reservation which I did. I called back to rebook and the hotel was full and the reservation was not refundable! Discussions with Expedia were useless! Their Call Centers are off shore so u get read the same script over and over again and then get identical emails from supposedly different Call Center employees. Dreadful service! DO NOT USE EXPEDIA!!!!

book a trip to venice Italy said price for plane fare and hotel received an email 4 hrs later that plane tickets where not issued now trying to get them reissued for 2200.00 more what scam now I am stuck with a hotel with no way to get there.

Very bad service I ever received. I booked a hotel from Expedia.ca 2 months ago before my vacation and got confirmed with email and be charged on my card. 5 days before I departure the hotel just simply inform me they cannot accommodate the order. I called to Expedia.ca customer service in 3 consecutive days, every time the Expedia representatives said they cannot reach out to hotel. I asked for escalation, but no one cares apparently. lucky I turn to another booking website to find another room and paid there. and I login Expedia.ca to cancel my order because my credit card already be charged for a fail service. what a funny business Expedia provided.

Expedia sold me a ticket insurance policy called "Vacation Waiver". In the description, this says that I can cancel my flight any time before the plane takes off. It turns out to be a false claim. The manager at Expedia told me that I would have to cancel about 5 hours before the departure time, not any time before the plane takes off.

Expedia did not offer me any consolation whatsoever, and even hung up on me when I asked for the very least a refund on the deceptive "Vacation Waiver" insurance.

Beware of Expedia's tricky small print!
