Review: I took membership at Fitness Evolution along with my wife at a month to month payment mode. They used to withdraw $29.99 each from my bank. Last month as I am not using the GYM I cancelled my membership and I was told there should be a 30 days notice, so I will be billed for July also. My wife still continues the membership. When I was checking my bank account online I noticed that instead of $29.99 each in July $ 59.98 each was withdrawn from my account with out my permission. I went to the Gym twice in this regard and they are saying it is a facility improvement charge which is taken from every members. The first thing is that it was not withdrawn with my permission and the second and most important thing is that I cancelled my account in the month of June and still taking the amount. I can understand taking $29.99 with the reason of 30 days notice, but for a person who cancelled the account, taking additional money for facility improvement is unjustifiable. The manager was so rude saying the money will not be refunded at any cost.I want the additional money taken from my account to be refunded. It was an insult and as I had to go there twice for the same thing, it was a loss of my personal time too. I request the Revdex.com to help me.Thanks,[redacted].Desired Settlement: I want the additional money withdrawn from my account to be refunded and also the amount taken for my wife's account is not with our permission which also should be refunded.

Review: The problem is that I made a verbal agreement with Fitness Evolution on basis of month to month paying only $ 9.99 a month. I was told upon me liking that club and only at the end of the last month and upon my intention to continue the service, I will be charged $ 29.00. That meets exactly the 28th of Dec 2013 because my service started on the 28th of Sept 2013.

Looking at my bank statement today, I see a a charge of $ 39.00, not even $ 29.00. That charge of $ 29.00 was supposed to be on the 28th of Dec 2013 and conditioned with my approval to keep the membership. I spoke Jimmy, the general manager and explained the situation. He told me completely different story from what I have been told when I signed my membership. He said that the charge should be today which is the 14th of Dec. I explained that I was told different and through many occasions.

I asked him then to cancel my membership and refund the money. He surprised me that he will not do that because I have to give a 60 days notice. I did explain to him that what he is saying was never told to me when I signed in. Anyhow, he refused to resolve any issue. He told me too that he will charge my bank account also in Jan 2013 too for another $ 9.99.

I have never sign for any of this: A) The fee of $ 39.00. It is supposed to be $ 29.00 and only collected on the 28th of Dec 2013 and not today. B) I was never told that I have to give a notice of 60 days to cancel. I was told clearly that I can cancel anytime before the three month with no charge or notice ahead of time. C) I was never told that I will be forced to pay for Jan 2013 a fee of $ 9.99.

I do consider it completely illegitimate to force me to charge my bank account without my approval. I consider it a fraud and a felony. Only courts can do that. Fitness Evolution is forcing that against the wish of the account owner.

The way [redacted] the general manager dealt with this issue was completely inadequate and unprofessional and unethical. He even tried to avoid discussing that matter claiming he is busy. I believe he can be busy as much as he wants but on bank account behalf.

All emails I did receive from Fitness Evolution were invitations and advertisements. Fitness Evolution had never told me that I shall receive any agreement or contract via email.

They only ha d a verbal agreement with me. Nothing else.

I do consider collecting my money this way is crime. I am not bound to any contract that authorize Fitness Evolution to collect any money without my approval.Desired Settlement: Refund immediately the unauthorized charge of $ 39.00 as honoring the agreement.

Stop charging my bank account from any future charge.

My membership cancels immediately but I keep using the facility until the end of Dec 2013. It is paid until that date.

Review: I began my membership at Fitness Evolution in [redacted], MD around March 2014. I have since left the Maryland area and moved to another state. Prior to my move, I contacted the gym and was told that I needed to submit a signed letter stating I would like to cancel my membership. I sent the letter in mid April 2014 via certified mail and received the return receipt signifying it had been received. It is now August 2014 and I am still being charged $19.99 per month. I have contacted the gym over 10 times via phone and email and have yet to receive a return call from a manager regarding this issue. To make matters worse, the fees are being deducted from an account I no longer have access to and are causing fees in the amount of $32 each time. At this point, the membership fees have cost me $59.97 + $96 in bank fees, for a total of $155.97.Desired Settlement: I am requesting (1) that my membership be cancelled immediately and (2) that I be returned $155.97 to cover my losses.

August 21, 2014Dear [redacted]:Our records indicate that [redacted] joined the gym in January 2014. She has recorded visits through mid April. There is no indication that she cancelled in writing. If, however, she will produce this dated & signed receipt from the USPS we can accommodate her cancellation and refund the dues we collected in the amount of $79.97.Regarding her argument of having contacted the gym "over 10 times"; we have 3 recorded attempts to look up her membership but no notes or explanations as to why she is logged in on those days—she may have visited the gym or simply called, but no action was taken. We are not responsible for any fees charged by her bank as we are not part of any agreement between them.Should there be any further questions, please contact our office.Sincerely,Sheila KBilling Manager

Review: I joined Fit Evo along with my Fiance back in Dec. 2010. My fiance passed away a couple of weeks later which led me to decide to leave the area for a while. In April 2011 I called Fit Evo to inform them that I wanted my membership canceled. I was told by the person who answered the phone that I would have to do that in person or submit a letter to the manager. I decided to send a letter. A year later while checking my banking statements I noticed I was still being billed by them. I decided I will wait until I was back in town to go up there in person to get it canceled. Dec. 2012 I finally make it to Fit evo to get the situation resolved. I asked to guy at the front desk could I speak to a manager. Of course the Manager wasn't there but he wanted to know if it was something he could help me with. I explained the situation and he said that it was something that the manager would have to deal with. He took my number and said I will have him call you shortly. the next day I got a call and explained the situation all over again. I even told the Manager I wasn't looking to get any money back I just wanted my account closed. He said he would take care of it right away. Here we are in May of 2013 and Fit Evo is still billing my account. I call again to speak with a manager and of course he isnt there! I explain the situation once again and again the person at the desk said they will have the manager give me a call back.Desired Settlement: Now extremely frustrated. Not only do I want my account closed I want a refund of no less than $300. that's $9.99 a month for 12 months and also the two times I was billed $29.99 since asking for my account to be closed. If it requires me to get a lawyer, that will be my next move.

Review: Fitness Evolution had been charging us $15.00 per month, then on 7/16/2013 charged us $30.00. On 8/16 and 9/17 charged us $59.99 and on 10/16/2013 charged us $44.99. I called three months in a row. The first month no one returned my call. In September, I called and the manager told me over the phone there would be no more charges to the account. I cancelled my account and left my husband's account as "frozen". We were not supposed to be charged anything for 6 months. The manager also stated the extra money that was charged to my account could not be refunded, but he would put that extra money towards my husband's account. Then we got another charge on 10/16/2013. I called today and spoke with the manager, Wes, who stated again we would not be charged again. I never authorized a charge of $44.99 to my account. He refused to refund any of our money. I cancelled my husband's account and he still refused to refund our money. We did not authorize these charges. Our monthly fee was supposed to be $15.00 per month.Desired Settlement: That Fitness Revolution would refund $15.00 from 7/16/2013, $44.99 from 8/16 and 9/17 and completely refund the $44.99 for the unauthorized charge from 10/16/2013. I would like a total refund of $149.97. I would also like a written apology for the dishonest handling of our account. I also want all of our information, including our bank account number, removed from their computer system. I do not want any more charges to our account.

[redacted] signed a contract for 24 month commitment-ongoing until she cancelled in writing on 12/20/10. Her monthly dues are $29.99 with the addition of Childcare for 2 at $15.00 per month. On 1/12/11 [redacted] signed another 24 month commitment contract in her husband's name at the monthly dues rate of $15.00. During the initial term of the contract [redacted] "froze" only her membership for 8 months. 7 of those months were paid for and came back to her as "free time" from 1/13 through 7/13. Since her husband continued to use childcare the membership was billed for the childcare fees starting 7/13. After the free time was used the monthly billing commenced for [redacted]'s membership per the terms of the signed freeze form.

Review: I was a member of fitness evolution gym until late 2011. I canceled my membership because my new school [redacted] has a full fitness facility free of charge for students. I went to fitness evolution in person and talked to the manager about canceling my membership. He said he will cancel my membership on the spot and I should not worry about it therefor I left the gym thinking my membership was canceled. Yesterday I got a collection agency mail stating I owe the gym $365. I have never been to they gym since I canceled my membership and I think it is unfair to be charged that amount.Desired Settlement: I just want the gym to cancel my membership once and for all and remove the $365 from my account.

Review: To whom it may concern,

I started with this gym when it first opened in 2013. I went through a few life changes during the time that I held the membership at the Fitness Evolution in [redacted], VA. Unfortunately, I had to move from [redacted], VA in July. Thus, I attempted to cancel my membership at that time, so that I could find a new gym in my local area. After many unsuccessful calls about canceling this membership, I eventually just sent the letter they requested, asking that they cancel my membership. I sent this letter in August and they verified that they received this by the beginning of September.

Overall they have been repeatedly rude (today, the person on the phone called me rude) and they have been VERY difficult to work with to cancel. I noticed today though, that they charged my account for the $40 yearly service fee. I called and asked why and the person said my account was cancelled, but that I still had 15 days and she said I last came in on September 15th, which is ENTIRELY UNTRUE, as I do not have the means to go out to [redacted] and I threw away my badge for the gym in August. She is now saying that I have to call at 11:00am to speak with Nick the manager.

I have a membership now with Planet Fitness in another city and I cannot afford for Fitness Evolution to keep charging me after I have completely cancelled my membership, moved and started with a new gym. I cancelled in the given time frame and paid my last months dues, yet they are still charging me. They verified receiving the letter of cancellation before September 15th.

I am incredibly unhappy with this company, they cannot provide me with the services I need to continue a membership and they have no locations anywhere within my vicinity (not that I would want to keep going their anyway, as they have really horrible customer service skills).

I hope you consider this complaint and can provide any form of assistance, I am really not a mean person at all, but this has just caused so much irritation and stress. This has dragged on so long and they have charged me roughly $100 since my last visit in July. Also, because of this, I have had to put off getting a new membership until I was able to verify cancellation (I just joined Planet Fitness yesterday). I have not been to the gym in 4 months and I really really enjoy going. I have tried to keep up exercise, but I got a gym membership to begin with because I don't have the equipment to workout at home the way I wish to. I have become out of shape entirely because of this and I am really not happy about that. I have started running and have tried getting exercise, but I basically have to start from scratch now (I used to go to fitness evolution 4-5 days a week).Desired Settlement: I would like them to just cancel the membership and refund the $40 fee they charged. I also want assurance that no other fees will be charged in the future, ever.

I would also like a sincere apology from the company for being so difficult to work with. But honestly, if that's not an option, I just want a refund and to never hear from them again.

Review: Fitness Evolution - [redacted], MD recieved payment from me for a one year membership which I paid in full at the time of joining (I had no balance). I went in to the center following the expiration and confirmed I did not wish to renew. I recently recieved a collecton notice from a firm - who said it did not do credit reporting - requesting a year payment. They agreed to make a note about my situation "in the file" but needed a letter from the center. I have made several calls to the center and spoke with staff, who confirned I should not have been charged...they were very helpful. I have made several calls to the manager, who has not taken my calls, nor responded to requests for call backs. A recent discussion, with a staff member, indicated that previously, staff where unclear about how to proceed with "getting this out of the system" and that a manager needed to review and send a notice to the collections company. I have no response.Desired Settlement: Correct billing error and remove my account from collections. My account should be closed with this business. Ensure not negative rating has been reported.

Review: My husband and I joined fitness evolution via their online website on 7/1/13, however we were unable to add the kids membership at that time. On 7/2/13 I walked into the gym and was told the kids club would not be opening yet. The gym was currently under construction and was not fully up and running. I told the customer service representative that we would need the kids club in order to use the gym and that I would need to cancel our memberships. She stated that we could put out accounts on hold so we could still take advantage of the pre-opening monthly rate but we would not be active or charged until we came in to use the gym.

I kept checking back with the gym every couple of weeks as the gym kept stating "we are fully opening in a couple of weeks". This went on for over 3 months. The gym was not fully functional, with a kids club until October. When I went in to work out, now that the kids were in school and it didn't matter if the kids club was open, I dropped off notification in writing as well as verbally that my husbands membership needs to be canceled. since it was frozen on hold since the day we signed up (because of no kids club) and he never activated it, the customer service agent said it was not a problem and nothing was owed.

I activated my account and worked out for a few months but was not happy with the facility and decided to cancel.

I gave notice in writing and was told that I owed for the next month too. I paid in full and left happily.

On 3/8/14, I received a letter from a collection agency that we owed $107.98 for my husbands membership. 3/8/14 was the very first correspondence I ever received about a balance for my husbands membership. I never received a letter or call from the gym. First contact comes from a collection agency 5 months after cancellation and was told his account was cancelled free and clear.

I called the gym to work out the mistake and explained that he never activated the account and that the agent froze his account the very next day he signed up online instead of having him cancel. Originally I wanted to cancel, but since freezing the account was an option being offered, it was a good solution. The manager proceeded to tell me they don't freeze accounts.

I was told that we owed the money period and the manager did not want to hear me out. I asked for a corporate number or his managers information. He would only direct me to the website. I went to the website and sent in my information so I could be contacted and no one has contacted me.Desired Settlement: Fitness evolution needs to withdrawal the account from collections. We should not owe this money. I was told that my husbands account was frozen on hold and he would not owe anything when I canceled the membership after it took 4 months for the gym to fully open. He never activated his card. I feel we were duped. I went in to cancel and was talked into freezing our accounts. Since I used the gym and activated my account, I was fine paying the amount I owed. My husbands account should not be liable for anything. We never unfroze the account. The first month was paid and the account was cancelled before ever being activated.

This business was not truly honest when pre-construction members were joining. I feel they were just telling us anything to have new members come in the door. Now they don't want to live up to their word.

Review: My personal checking account was debited a large amount by my local gym that I attend. When attempting to get answer no on can direct me to the account department

Response:

October 19, 2012Dear [redacted]:According to my records [redacted]'s past due account was sent to collections in May ’14. I am unaware of any payment plan set up between those two parties. The balance on the account in May was $254.93 and the membership was suspended in July, [redacted] came to the gym and re-established her membership by providing new payment information. The payment terms of our contract are enclosed. When we collected the past due balance of $129,93 on 8/8/14 several of her payments to the collection agency had not been posted resulting in a credit balance to her membership account which will be applied to her future dues. There are no notes of explanations on her membership account referencing how or when the balance was to be paid, but memberships need to be current to be reinstated.Should there be any further questions, please contact our office.Sincerely,Sheila KBilling Manager

Review: I just canceled my membership today. A representative by the name of [redacted] and her Manager told me I will not be reprimanded. I did so because when I registered for the gym, they did not disclose the 39$ fee attached after 4 months of service. Anyhow, I started to fill uncomfortable at the gym after I tried to register a friend and I was told that they had attached fees I was unaware of. They stated my last date visited there was Dec 6, 2013 where I checked in at the gym. I had a special bank account just for the gym, where even on January 1, 2013, I put my money in the bank just to pay that bill. I was faithful. I canceled my account and am grateful. My social worker stood on my behalf to condemn them for not making it known up front all charges. I got out of the agreement and did not have to pay.

Just to kill a dead horse, when I told them I was unaware they said they emailed me. When my social worker held the conversation about the email address, we discovered they did not have the right email address. I had no way of knowing.Desired Settlement: I just want my name clean. They don't owe me nothing. And that works vice versa.

Review: Fitness Evolution in Sterling Va started opening locally since January 2013. They sent out discount coupons for recruiting members. I have a coupon for me and my wife to join till May 31st 2013 as the first month free and will be charged $9.99 per month afterwards. That would be a very good deal! But they notified me and my wife that we were charged the first month fees by the May 1st. But the coupon says the first month is free, for May. But anyway, I wouldn't worry about the fees since they are not much. And especially, we were waiting for a long time so we were excited to start and went there to exercise for the first time. But the place was not ready. they had some exercise equipments but place was not finished especially they didn't' have shower facility. They said it would take 90 days to finish but we could start use the gym machines. We don't like the idea of sweating after exercises and no shower! So we can't go to work afterwards or anything else except to come home take shower. It is not a good arrangement. So we couldn't wait for 90 days again for the shower ready and requested the money back for the first month fees. We also mentioned the coupon said that the first month should be free anyway. They said "sorry" but the first month fees, for me and my wife, would not be refunded. We think this is a bad business practice and like to warn other people not be short-changed. So we never used the facility because of they broke the promise as the brochure presented and wanted the fees refunded.Desired Settlement: Refunds of the first month fees(May)for [redacted].

Review: I enrolled in the gym in March with promises that there would be fitness classes in six weeks. Within six weeks no classes were ready but I was charges. I called in May to have my account frozen and not have any charges until classes were ready and I approved. I did not receive any charges from May- August in Sept I received a charge for $9.99. I called and asked if they had added classes yet. They had not. I inquired why I was being charged. They informed me it was a mistake and I needed to come into the gym with my statement and the card to be reimbursed. This was Thursday Sept 5. I went into the gym at 6:30 pm and was told that they could not help me and the manager stepped away. I then called on Friday am Sept 6 and asked to speak to manager and see if they could reverse charges over the phone since I had come in and there was no one to help me. They told me the manager was "busy" and I could leave a number for him to call me back. I never heard back. I went back into the gym on Saturday 9/7 around 11 a.m. I was told that the manager "just stepped out" and she could not help me. I implored the front desk receptionist to take a copy of my bank statement (with everything blacked out minus the charge) so that they could fix my charge and I would not need to come back again. She said she couldn't do that and that she couldn't help. I asked her to take my number and she begrudgingly took my number down. I asked when I should expect to hear from him and she said at some point today) I never heard form anyone all day Saturday. On Sunday because I was out of town my husband went into the gym with the bank statement and the credit card (this being the THIRD time in person- and 2 other phone calls now) Again he was told the manager "just stepped out" and no one could help him. He explained the issue and was rudely told there was nothing anyone could do until a manager got back to us. They refused to help or even take our name and number down to remedy the situation. All the while , a simple return call or acknowledgement they screwed up would have been helpful but there was no accountability and RUDENESS!!!! My husband left his number and asked that the manager call him on Monday when he got in at 8 am. By 10 a.m. today Monday Sept. 9 we had heard nothing. So I called the gym AGAIN and asked to speak to a manager. They asked my name and said one second. A few minutes alter they said the manager "was not available anymore" and that they couldn't help me. I told them that I was contacting the Revdex.com and that I needed a manager to contact me ASAP because they had not refunded my money that was erroneously charged and they refused to be available to remedy the situation. They said "ok number please" and 1.5 hours later I still have heard NOTHING!!Desired Settlement: Money refunded immediately.
