Magazine Discount Center Reviews (181)

Review: I placed an order for Bead Magazine back in October or 2015 (order number [redacted]). To date, I have not received a single issue. I made multiple phone calls, but at some point this company no longer had a phone number for customer service, so I switched to email correspondence. I have made numerous email inquiries since then. I only received one response to these emails and it did not result in an issue being received. The last 4 emails I have sent were never responded to. They have also removed their online chat option for customer service. There appears to be no way to contact this company at this point.Desired Settlement: I would like the $88.25 I paid for this subscription last October to be refunded.

Review: I am trying to collect a $42.00 refund for a subscription that I cancelled. I have a confirmation number regarding the cancellation but I can't find out about the money. I can't talk to a live person and no one has responded to emails.Desired Settlement: $42.00 refund either to my credit card or a check.

I have received my refund by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.

Sincerely,

Review: I ordered a subscription to receive magazines from this company in Dec. of 2015. I ordered IN Game and Fish. A one year subscription. It is nearly the end of Feb. and I have yet to receive an issue of the magazine. I looked on there website and it states that a monthly subscription should be received the folioing month. I understood not getting an issue for Jan., but found it odd that I had nothing from Feb. Last week, I went to there website and tried to make contact. I submitted a help ticket and no one ever made contact with me. I submitted another ticket that was a bit more…angry as I had not gotten any reply. Still have yet to have anyone try to email me back. I went to the companies [redacted] and tried to get ahold of them. No reply from the company on this as well. I just now found there phone number on the Revdex.com. No answer…just an automated message saying that they no longer do anything by phone. This is unacceptable. I am a paying customer and I deserve to be treated like one.Desired Settlement: I want my subscription. The worst part is, I went into a store the other day and took a look at the magazine shelf. They had both issues for Feb and March already. I picked up the March issue because I want to read these. Hence the reason that I ordered them. I want someone to contact me from this company and tell me how they will resolve this, what they are going to do to reimburse me and why they are avoiding my help tickets. This company does not deserve a B+ rating. I think that you may need to take a second look and give them another score so people don't have to encounter what I have in the future.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

Well, here is part of the response that I got. Please be aware that I placed this order in Dec. of 2015 and the website states it may take up to 4-12 weeks. "customer's subscription is due to start with the June 2016 issue, which they should receive no later than June 20, 2016. Also their subscription expiration date is December 2016"So I paid for a year and am only receiving 6 months? Just doesn't make any sense to me. It goes on to say this…"To compensate the customer, we have processed a refund of $4.74 for 3 missed issues to be issued back to their account. This adjustment will post to their credit card within three business days." So they are going to refund me for 3 issues on a year subscription and I am not getting the full year. This is completely unacceptable and I want to company to contact me directly, BY PHONE…WITHIN THE NEXT WEEK.

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Sincerely,

I ordered online 12 issues of Reader's Digest for $10, on 01/2015. I now get a bill for $45??? Of course, I tried calling, but you no longer give customer service on the phone. I can see why when you rip people off. I will be writing or calling the Revdex.com along with our Attorney General in Mn., unless I get some satisfaction from your Company.

Review: Ordered Reader's Digest accidentally on this site instead of the real site last year. Was billed 15.00 for a subscription. Was not told that it automatically renews every year unless you cancel. There is no phone number any longer for customer service, so you can't even speak to someone. The phone message states t;hey send an e-mail before renewal, which I never received, in my regular or my spam folder. Then I was billed 45.00 for the same subscription, when their website still clearly states that it is only 15.00 for 10 issues. Never did I authorize a renewal with a 45.00 rate for a 15.00 subscription, which is what I had originally paid. This seems like very deceptive bait and switch type of business activity.Desired Settlement: Explanation of why they charged 45.00 when their website says it's 15.00. Refund of 45.00. I have already cancelled my subscription. Their phone message says you will be refunded for all of the issues that you will not receive. So I should be refunded the entire amount since I cancelled it today, and my subscription just renewed at midnight last night. And, I am sure that it has not been sent yet.

Business

Response:

Hello Customer!Just for clarification, Automatic Renewal is part of the contract of Magazine Discount Center, as dictated on our website when you place your order. This means that your order will continue year after year until you tell us that you no longer wish to keep your subscription. You can cancel anytime you wish! All you have to do is let us know and we will cancel this subscription for you.We hope this clears things up in case there was any confusion. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email us back.Best Regards,Magazine Discount CenterCustomer Service

Review: On January ** my bank account was debited in the amount of $40.00 by magazine discount center for a renewal of a magazine subscription that I did not want nor did I knowingly authorize this transaction. I had received no notice by mail or email that this was going to take place. In fact, the magazine I was charged for is no longer in publication. I am unable to reach a live person by any of the phone numbers I have called. It is all automated. I have sent several emails but none have been answered. I want the subscription cancelled and my account fully refunded.Desired Settlement: I want my subscription cancelled and a full refund of the $40.00 I was charged.

Sincerely,

Review: I am presently receiving Men's Health from Magazine Discount Center, and I'd like to cancel my subscription. Here's the problem, I called them to cancel and they asked ( through an automated call) for a number that I don't have. I tried to send an email, but again, I needed a number other than what's listed on the magazine. I sent them a letter, only to have it returned for insufficient address. I am unable to contact them using any of the methods listed on their site. I just want to unsubscribe from the magazine.Desired Settlement: Cancellation of my subscription to Men's Health.

Sincerely,

Review: Shortly after subscribing to a magazine with this company my credit card was compromised and several charges were made starting small and then going rather large. I contacted the company by phone, was given a short run-around and then was put in touch with "Matthew" who I began to tell the problem to when he put me on some sort of parroting device that returned exactly what I was saying to me.Desired Settlement: Desired outcome? Prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.

Business

Response:

Please let the customer know that our business has never been compromised. We do not store credit card information so it’s impossible that we could even be compromised, on another note, if we were compromised, we would have gotten more messages than just from this customer – this seems to be attributed to something beyond Magazine Discount Center. We follow all PCI compliance procedures in regards to encryption. Is it possible that this customer purchased on another website the days leading up to his purchase on Magazine Discount Center? Did he purchase anything at a store? Maybe his computer was compromised. In regards to Matt, I am very sorry this customer had a negative experience – Matt has been with us for years and has always been an exceptional customer service rep. Is it possible that this customer’s cell phone/or phone service had an echo? That’s happened to me before. Please let me know if you need anything else. Ryan

Review: I intended to renew my subscription to On Health Magazine directly through its publisher, [redacted]. I clicked on what I thought was the correct web page. It looked as though it was the correct web page. Only AFTER placing my order and providing my credit card information did I learn that I had placed the order through an intermediary: Magazine Discount Center. I tried to cancel within 5 minutes after placing the order, but I could not find a means to submit a cancellation through the web site. I also tried to cancel by phone, but it was Saturday. Even though MDC allows people to place orders by phone on Saturday, they do not allow cancellations except during "regular business hours" - i.e., Monday through Friday. I feel I was switched, and I'm angry! I am also afraid I will be pestered with junk mail and email from now until eternityDesired Settlement: I would like to cancel my order immediately. I would like confirmation that my credit card has been credited with the full $24 amount that I charged. And I would like a promise that I will not be placed on any mailing list. (If I am already on a mailing list, I would like confirmation that I have been removed from it.)

Business

Response:

Hello, We are sorry that you decided to stop ordering through us. Please allow 3-5 business days for any charges to be accredited back. You may receive one to two more issues as our gift to you. Review: I purchased a subscription as a gift. After completing all information and "paying" for the magazine, I was informed it will take 4 to 10 WEEKS to receive the first issue. This was purchased as a birthday gift ---if I had known how long the delivery time was, I would not have purchased it at all.

This length of delivery time should be stated up front, BEFORE asking for payment.

I had to come to your site to get a telephone number for this company. I did not receive any assistance from their customer service. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told one was not available.Desired Settlement: I would like this subscription delivered at once.

Business

Response:

Dear Customer, We thank you for your magazine subscription to Magazine Discount Center. As a re-seller we are unable to expedite any subscriptions. The publisher asks us to allow for 4-12 weeks for the magazine to get to you. Please allow 8-12 weeks for orders to be processed and arrive at the shipping location provided. If your order has not arrived by the [redacted] week, please contact us. If you have any further questions or issues, please email us back or call: [redacted]. I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

It is a standard reply, we can't do anything regarding your complaint. It does not resolve my discontent with this company. As I stated in my original complaint, the extremely long delivery time for this magazine should be stated up front in a disclosure statement BEFORE payment has been made. This is an extremely long time to wait for delivery and totally absurd.

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Sincerely,

Review: In December I ordered a magazine from Backwoodsman at a discount price and not only was it not delivered I now find out that I was charged double what the cost of the subscription and now I have had to pay for 2 issues extra money because the magazine company did not receive the order and the delay cost me extra for Jan-Feb and March-Apr issues. I called to ask for my money back and they have not put it back in my account yet. I have also found out that this is a common occurance with this company.Desired Settlement: Refund of $52.42 and $12 refund for extra magazines I had to order because my subscription renewal was not ordered in time for the 2 issues to complete my on going subscription. Making a total of $64.42 I feel I should have coming back.

Review: I was trying to pay a bill at rdlargeprint.com/paybill , the site listed on my bill. The first address that came up on a google search was the one I clicked on. I paid the bill, gave the AE credit card number, expected to pull up my account, so I could pay the bill. I instead was charged $29. instead of the $18.of my bill and see that I was not on Readers Digest site. I am concerned that I have compromised my computer. Review: I placed an order on the firm's website for Organic Gardening only to discover later that magazine has ceased publication. I do not want Rodale's other magazine, Organic Living, as I already subscribe to that magazine. I emailed the firm and asked for a refund. They have not replied in a timely manner. Frankly, it is fraudulent to advertise for a magazine that no longer exists.Desired Settlement: Refund.

Unhelpful on the phone when I tried to resolve an issue. I asked for a call back and they stated the only way that Customer Assistance would help me was by e-mail.

Review: Company represented itself online as legitimate subscription sales representative of [redacted] which prints Classic Toy Trains, a magazine that I subscribe to. I renewed through this website online on 12/**/14. I contacted [redacted] on 1/**/15 and said that they have received no information from Magazine Discount Center on my renewal. My credit card was charged on 12/**/14. Representative at MDC said she did not know why my order was not processed other than that "some magazines wait 6-8 weeks to process after we contact them." [redacted] said this was not their policy and have not been contacted by MDC. I asked to speak to a MDC supervisor and was sent to a voicemail box. I left a message to call me about this situation and my call was not returned.Desired Settlement: I do not trust this company to respond to my complaint based on their lack of response, and want the $39.95 charged to my credit card to be refunded.

Review: I ordered a magazine through Magazine Discount Center. They sent me a letter saying the magazine was undeliverable -- wong zip code. I realized two of the numbers had been reversed and trie to phone them. They have eliminated phone service "to improve customer service." it took three phone calls to the electronic service to correctly list all the eb site informtion and my incredibly long account numbeer. I wrote them the correct information. I got back a form letter saying they'd received my letter. No confirmation that they would fix things. Over several days I vainly tried to reach them and get some sort of reply -- nothing. At one point I got an electronic communication that I had another subscription from last May -- I never used this company before and asked that it be canceled. They indicated I would get back a pittance. My bank is investigating. In desperation I called the magazine I had ordered who told me they had the order with the wrong zipo. They also gave me a phone number that worked! I called Magazine Discount Center and told them I wished to cancel. They said I woudn't get all my money back because they had been processing my order. I asked if they had the corrected zip. They gave me a number so far from what I had sent it was ridiculous. There were several communications between the first and the call to the ordered magazine, but that's pretty repetitive. My point: This place is a scam. Their price was more than ten dollars more than the actual price of the ordered magazine. Their customer service is terrible. And the magazine you order includes recurring subscriptions which of course I did not notice as I was concentraating on the order. Don't use this service! And by the way, the number you can reach them on is [redacted]. A well-kept secret. How can you possibly give them an A?Desired Settlement: I wish the company could be brought to court and shut down. I realize that will not happen. I would appreciate a warning from Revdex.com that they are asking for trouble if they use this ordering service. Just call the magazine you want directly. They will be happy to help you.Refund
