Review: Brought my 2012 Honda Civic in to Mavis for 2 new front tires on July **,2013. When I picked up my car the rear left quarter panel, directional cover and bumper were damaged. When I pointed it out they did not accept responsibility and said they would contact their corporate headquarters to have the video from the cameras looked at. I did not receive a call from them so I proceeded to call their corporate headquarters. Spoke to [redacted] who is in charge of the cameras and he told me he had not received a request from the Massapequa Mavis to look at the cameras however, he would look at the video and get back to me. When [redacted] did get back to me he stated that the cameras at the Massapequa location were not working the day of my service until 2:00pm and the two previous days. He said he could not do anything about my $1900 damage to my car.Desired Settlement: I would like Mavis to refund the cost of the repair of the damaged to the vehicle.

Review: The manager at the business tried forcing me to have unnecessary repairs done to my car. All I wanted done was and inspection, he tells me my front struts are leaking and when I told him that the struts are only a year old he told me they don't look new. Then he just continues to tell me that my tires are bolding which are are and shows me options of tires and prices without asking me if I want it done. He said I need new tires to pass the inspection. Then he tells me I need new brakes and my brake lights aren't working. After all the fast talk I just told him I wanted my car back and don't want any repairs. The manager goes on to say that I need to do the repairs otherwise I won't pass the inspection. I kept on saying no, he kept on trying to convince me to do the repairs. Finally, I sternly told him to just bring my car down from the lift so I can leave and walked to the waiting room. I waited half an hour and it didn't seem like the manager was going to bring my car down. He went along with his business and totally left my car unattended on the lift. After another 10 minutes I just confronted the manager, he told me that he doesn't have anyone available to look or bring my car down because they were all busy. This got me really furious, and I demanded my car, called the 1800 number they had up in the waiting room. I spoke to a branch manager and finally got my car back. Most of the repairs the manager told me that I needed were untrue and unnecessary. I confirmed it with a local mechanic.Desired Settlement: Just want this business investigated. Almost every that wrote a review on this business are saying the same thing I am complaining about. This business should not be allow to victimize helpless people that are not mechanically inclined. Thank you.

Review: I brought my car to Mavis for tire/rim repair. I was told that they have to send the rim out in order for somebody to fix it. I have brought my car there on sunday and I called them tuesday, paid over the phone and was told my car is ready. Two hours later I received a call from them saying my car broke and it is probably timing belt. They told me I have to call towing and take car elsewhere because they don't have mechanic to fix it. I arranged a towing company, called a mechanic who told me the repair will be about $300. They claimed that when they were just moving my car, they heard snap and car stopped. When my mechanic opened the engine he found out that the engine is severely damaged, not by broken timing belt but by some part that broke of the pump. They must have driven my car at high speed/high rotations, not just parking it. He said that I need whole new engine which is going to cost couple of thousand dollars. For few days I have tried to talk to them and asked how it could happen, they were saying that they didn't drive it at all. They tried to lie to me that I brought in the car with check engine light on, which is not true. My car was in great condition and didn't have any light on. Four days later one of the mechanics admitted that the car broke about a mile down the road from the Mavis store (so they lied again). I asked them to pay for the repair and we agreed that they will pay for the engine and I will pay for the labor. Few days later when the employee of Mavis was ordering the engine he asked me how am I going to pay for the engine. He said, that he never offered to buy me an engine but only to give me some discount. They lie from the very begging and refuse to take any responsibility for the damage.I brought in the car in perfect shape and they returned it to me with severely damaged engine and said they have nothing to do with it and it could happen to anyone.Desired Settlement: I am asking to repair my car and give it back to me in the same condition I brought the car in to the Mavis store. I am asking for them to pay not only for the engine but also for the labor.

Response:

Customer came in for a rim repair. Car was then test driven;

during the test drive the timing chain snapped. Customer was called and

informed of this, she then had it towed to her mechanic who told her that not

only was the timing chain snapped, but the teeth on the gear were damaged as

well. Car was only driven about a mile (if that) before the damage occurred. This

was an internal issue that was pre-existing in the vehicle. The car has about

136k miles on it. Customer’s mechanic told her a new engine would cost about

$3000; the store offered to help her locate an engine cheaper but never offered

to pay for it. Store is not responsible for any damages.

[Your Answer Here]

The car was taken for a "test drive" 2 hours after I paid over the phone and was told that car is ready to be picked up. Have been told from the beggining that the car was not driven at all, just to find out 4 days later that it actually was driven without any notice to me as an owner. The business certainly has different methods (more accurate methods!) how to find out if the tires are balanced than driving the car around without me present. The damage on the engine is so extensive that it could be done only by reckless driving/speeding. Have been told by one of the salespeople that the store will get the engine and I even offered to pay the labor and other expenses. I had a wittness with me who can prove it. 5 days later, they say they never offered me anything but help to look for the engine.

Mavis has spoken to the franchise location in [redacted] again and they reiterated that they are not responsible for her timing belt snapping and will not be held responsible for it. They stated again that no one sped or drove her vehicle recklessly in any way. Thank you

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:Mavis Tire in [redacted] should NOT drive my car 2 hours after I paid for the job and was told that the car is ready to be picked up. How is it possible that somebody drove my car after the job was DONE and PAID FOR! I did not get any phone call, I was not notified in any other way that somebody is going to be driving my car. If Mavis tire had the nerve to left one of their employees to drive my car they should be responsible for the damages he caused.I find it very professional that Mavis is still addressing the timing belt problem even though I stated in my initial complaint that it was NOT a timing belt. They lied to me that car was not driving therefore there was not supposed to be any damage. I am just being fooled around by your employees and I never got a single phone call nor see any willingness to resolve the issue. Very disappointing!!!!

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Sincerely,

Had been there before for quick tire repairs with no issues. Went there for an inspection for the first time with my older car. They failed it and gave me an estimate of $1100! They told me my control arm bushings were rotted. Long story short brought it home, took it apart, bushings were fine. Scammers, at least it was only 37$

Review: On Thursday, 7/**/2015 at approximately 11:30 AM, my wife brought our 2008 Honda Civic to Mavis Discount Tire in Syosset. We had a flat the day before and had to replace the front passenger tire, which was currently using our spare. In addition, [redacted] asked them for an oil change. She was told it would take two hours. At about 4:00 PM (four and a half hours later) the car was done. [redacted] was told that the yellow maintenance lights for “low tire pressure” and “service needed” would turn off after driving.

[redacted] drove to work. When she got there, she called Mavis and told Jose that the tire pressure light turned off, but the maintenance “wrench” light did not. Jose told her that she could come back tomorrow to re-calibrate the sensor controlling that light. After work, [redacted] drove to pick me up from my job, and the red oil pressure warning light turned on, and the engine began knocking. Since Mavis was closed and we were already told to come back tomorrow, we went home.

The next morning (Friday 7/**), I checked the oil dipstick. It was dry. [redacted] and I brought the car back to Mavis and told them what was happening. I don’t remember the name of the man I spoke with, but he did tell me that he was on loan from another store for the day (I think he said he was from the East Meadow location.). After an hour (we ate at Burger King next door) we returned, and the same man told me that they filled up the engine. He said something to the effect of ‘mistakes happen.’ Further, he most definitely said that the car was “OK to drive.” [redacted] dropped me off at work, and went to her own job.

While at work I did some research on the Internet and became concerned that the car was not “OK.” When [redacted] picked me up, I noticed a subtle ticking sound and vibrations and feedback on the accelerator. We went home and decided not to use the car again until we could bring it to be checked out, even though a representative from Mavis had assured us it was “OK to drive.” Instead of using our car for the weekend, we borrowed my mother’s car and left our Honda parked by our home until we could bring the car elsewhere for a second opinion.

On Monday, 7/**, I drove our Honda to the service department of [redacted] Honda for a second opinion. During this drive I still experienced the ticking sound and feedback on the accelerator. We explained our situation and symptoms, and asked him to do a detailed check of the engine to ensure no damage had occurred. We were told that they would probably not be able to get back to me until Wednesday or Thursday, as they were backed up with customers.

On Wednesday, 7/**, Chris from [redacted] Honda called me back and told me that I’d need a new engine. I asked him why, and he said that it was due to the oil not being replaced during my last oil change. I asked him how sure he was that this was the cause, and he said “100% positive.” Since my wife is 9 months pregnant and I needed my car immediately to be ready to take her to the hospital, I asked them to begin immediately, and it was ready for me on Saturday, 7/**.

On 7/**, after picking up my car, I returned to Syosset M[redacted] and spoke to the general manager. I gave him copies of my receipts from Mavis and Honda, and he told me he would pass them along. I heard nothing back, and followed up by getting the District Manager’s name and phone number. After being brushed off by the District Manager, Rob M[redacted] for nearly two months, I sent letters to customer service, Rob’s superiors, and the two co-owners of the corporation on 9/**. Almost a week later, I received a call from customer service offering me $2400 because that is the amount they decided repairing my engine would have cost them if they had been given a chance to perform the repairs themselves. I thereafter received a letter offering compensation in the amount of “one thousand ($2400) dollars,” according to the letter.

This amount is unacceptable, as they have shown a pattern of reticence, incompetence, and negligence. It took them about two months to come up with their first compensation offer. If I had brought my car back to them and asked them to repair it, I would probably still be waiting for their decision. I certainly would not have had a car to drive my wife to the hospital or bring my son home. They were unable to properly perform an oil change, so I would not trust them to correctly install a new engine. They told us that they checked the car and it was “OK to drive” when it clearly was not, so I would have ended up bringing my vehicle back to Honda to check up on their work anyway because they already gave me false information about the state of the car.Desired Settlement: Full reimbursement of the repairs in the amount of $4080

Response:

Customer never advised Mavis he was going to the dealer to

have the car looked at, Mavis was never notified what the dealer recommended to

the customer about replacing the motor or its diagnosis giving us a chance to look into the issue and provide a fair

resolution. Mavis was only notified that the motor was replaced after the

customer came to us seeking full payment from the dealership. Mavis came to an

agreement with the customer via phone call after

receiving customers letter phoned on

9/**/2015 and 9/**/2015 for a General Release form to be sent for $2500.00.

That is what it would have cost Mavis to have a used 2008 Honda Civic Motor

with equal or less mileage on it installed in the customer’s vehicle. As

far as the ”[redacted]”…

That was a typographical error that we can correct, It should have been written as “Two thousand five

hundred dollars and zero cents”. There was no mention of $2400.00 in the General Release letter, only the $2500.00

as settlement in good faith that was agreed upon.

"Customer never advised Mavis he was going to the dealer to have the car looked at, Mavis was never notified what the dealer recommended to the customer about replacing the motor or its diagnosis giving us a chance to look into the issue and provide a fair resolution"

Mavis was given a chance to look into the issue and provide a fair resolution when the car was returned the day after the oil change. Mavis representatives replaced the oil in my car and examined it, and informed me that the car was "OK to drive." From that point on, I could not trust Mavis again, because their representative was either negligent in his examination of my car, or lying that it was examined at all.

Response:

We explained to the customer how we came to the $2500 and there was a verbal agreement over the phone. We have adjusted the typographical error on the general release and will be re-sending it to the customer with a pre-stamped return envelope inside. Thank you

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:After discussing the situation with friends and family I have decided that I will not be settling for $2500. It is insufficient compensation, and the method used to determine the compensation amount is dependent on trusting Mavis' calculations and knowledge of my vehicle's situation, which they proved they could not do when they told me the car was OK to drive after I brought it back to them. Furthermore, telling a very clearly pregnant woman that her car is OK to drive when it is not during a heatwave in the middle of July is not only negligent or careless, but dangerous. Had I trusted in Mavis's calculations and knowledge of my vehicle to start with, my wife and unborn son would have been put at great risk to their health.

Review: In the spring of this year my boyfriend and I were planning a drive across county and so had the front wheels aligned on my 2004 Saturn Ion at Mavis Discount Tire in Long Beach. About 1500 miles into the trip, as we were slowing down for some traffic on the highway, I noticed a strange noise coming from the front end of the car and that the steering was handling roughly. We pulled over and discovered that the steel belts of the left front tire on the inside area of the tire had completely worn through the tire. The steel was exposed on the tire. We went to the first service station we could find and had the tires replaced. We wanted another alignment there, but the shop couldn’t accommodate us. We continued out trip to Tucson, AZ, where we brought the car to a Chevy dealer (now overseeing service and repairs for Saturns) and had the car checked out and the wheels aligned. The computer alignment showed that the alignment done in the spring at Mavis (if there was one done at all) was completely wrong.Desired Settlement: We are asking for reimbursement for the tires ($198.28), for the second alignment we had to have done in Tucson,($93.88, including sales tax), and the amount Mavis charged us for the original service ($112), for a total of $404.16.

Review: I received brakes and 4 new tires and was charged $931 on 11/9.I called The corporate office to inquire about the charges and was told a manager would call me back. I was never called back but I had to return to the mavis store to get the brakes on and while I was there the regional manger called there and after he reviewed the bill with the manager at the store, he concluded I was overcharged. The store gave me a oil change to cover the overcharge. I never once received a call from the manager apologizing or anything. I would like the bill to be reviewed again because I believe I was grossly overcharged and there are items on there I never reviewed (TPMS - SERVICE) store manager said he was taking that charge off and didn't I was not able to explain that to the regional manger because he never called me. I will never return to a Mavis again. I feel I was overcharged because I applied for a credit card at the store and was approved and they knew I could be charged that amount plus more and that's exactly what they did. All the while telling me I was given discounts but in all actuality I was being overcharged.Desired Settlement: I would like bill reviewed again and a call back letting me know exactly how I was overcharged.

Review: online pricing of tires was $115.00 plus a $70.00 rebate after you purchase a set of 4 tires. After the tires were installed the price was $133.00 for each tire. After speaking to the local store customer rep he stated that the online store is very MISLEADING and told me to call the corporate store . After speaking to the [redacted] ( [redacted] ) he stated the online pricing is not misleading and he will speak to the local store because they are misunderstanding. Since my complaint I have gotten no where and the online pricing was removed .Desired Settlement: I would like a credit for the online pricing. I paid over $600.00 for tires I was expected to pay $400 plus tax.

Review: MAVIS DISCOUNT TIRES [redacted]: Please note that this location committed blatant fr**d on my car. They claimed to have changed my oil, and wrote up an oil change on the bill, yet one was never done. This was confirmed by Mavis in [redacted] (documentation can be provided), as the [redacted] refused to help. He flat out lied about witnessing the oil change, but later back tracked saying he assumed it was done. In addition, my car needed rear breaks, yet they changed the front brakes, which were in fact new. When confronting the store [redacted] he blew me off. Then upon going to [redacted] to get a resolution, only the oil change was compensated. The rear breaks remain undone and I'm out over $700 for labor that wasn't needed, or authorized. Please note since they had lied about doing my oil change, and I was driving down two quarts because they swore it was changed, and oil wound up leaking everywhere, and my engine is a running badly since. Review: I took my car in for new tires to Mavis. I asked them to check the shocks for me also. They called me back and told me that the car needed New calipers in the front, brake pads and rotors front and back, new struts and shocks. They told me that it would cost me 2000 dollars. So I knew that I was hanging onto this car so I told them to just do it. So I picked up the car that night and went home. The next day we were going away for a few days on vacation. When I got on the highway the car was vibrating so violently you couldn't see out your mirrors. I could barely hear the person in the back seat due to the vibration. When we came home three days later I took the car right back and told them what was happening. They told me that the balancing machines must be off. So they re-balanced the tires. The next day I got on the highway to go to work and the car was doing the same thing. I could not bring the car right back because I was just returning from vacation. So a few day later I got their first thing in the morning before anyone else. I told them that it was doing the same thing. They took the car back in and took everyone else in before me even though I was the first one their. They said call if it is still doing it. So I got on the highway to go to work and it was still doing the same thing. Vibrating so bad that I thought the windshield was going to crack. So I took it back again and asked if someone would come with me for a ride so I could show them what I was talking about. The service manager said he was to busy and couldn't leave but the tech would test drive it. When he came out I asked him to take it on the highway and he will see what I was talking about. He said "i will not be doing that". So he again balanced the tires and it did not fix the problem. The car has been back their 6 times and never the problem never went away. The car never did this before even with bald tires on it. They replaced all of the suspention tires shocks brakes rotors, the car should be riding very smooth which it is not. So I called their 800 number to complain and the girl said yes I see that you have been back 6 times and I'm going to send this to the general manager and he will get back to you today, the car shouldn't be in the shop that many times. They never called me back and it has been two weeks or more now. I have no idea what to do next?? The service guy said maybe its time to trade it in, I told him why didn't you tell me that before I gave you 2000 dollars. I think they used cheap parts on the rotors and brakes. I do not believe that it is coming from the tires.Desired Settlement: At this point I will not go back their again. I have been to this place many times before to get tires and never had a problem like this. I even told the girl on the complaint line, look me up I'm a repeat customer to this shop, but never again. I want to bring it some where else and have someone else see what they think. The way this car is vibrating its going to chew up the new tires that are on it and then it all was a waste of time and my money. I would like half of the 2000 dollars back, not sure if that will happen but thats what I want, then I can pay someone else to fix it. Not getting rid of this car just because of this. Thank you.

Review: Went into Mavis on 9/**/15 to repair a flat. I have customer wheels on my vehicle, service rep stated no problem to repair the tire. A mechanic pulled my vehicle pulled my vehicle and performed the flat repair, which involved removing the tire from the wheel, installing a plug in the tire, removing the old wheel weights from the wheel, remounting the tire and rebalancing it with new weights. The vehicle was pulled out from the service bay and I paid for the repair 23.87.

I noticed that there were deep scratches in the wheel where the "old" weights were located. I went and spoke to the manager Ian who came out and verified the damage to wheel. The wheels are black in color, Ian first wanted to send the wheel out to get repaired (powder coated), there is no way they will be able to match the color of the other 3 wheels, he than decided that Mavis would "replace" the wheel. On Monday I ordered a new wheel, today my dealer (Speedworld) contacted Stu at Mavis, they are now refusing to pay for the new wheel. I than called and spoke with Austin (not the most friendly guy) who told me Stu was not in today? (my dealer just spoke to him).Desired Settlement: Replacement of the wheel there mechanic damaged

You really can't make this up!!! So from my previous post....went to the Mavis location this past Saturday and dropped off my wheel for them to repair, showed the damage to Stu the mgr, stated they will would be sent out on Monday and they would have it back on Tuesday....So I waited the extra day and went in yesterday to pick up the wheel, Stu opened the box for us to examine the wheel, I first noticied there was scratches on the one of the spokes on the front of the wheel, I pointed it it out to Stu and his response was "I did not show him that damage on Saturday"....I told him that damage was not there when I dropped the wheel off....seriously!!! Frustrated with this whole process with Mavis I left with the wheel. Once I got it home I compared it with the other wheels on my vehicle and the color/finish does not match the others and there are now waves in the wheel. So basically the wheel is worse now than when I dropped it off!

Review: I brought my car in because of a Tire Pressure Warning Light. I suspected it was because of a repair to one of the valves that a different garage had done so I told them (the Mavis mechanics) to start by checking that. It turned out the problem was a nail in the tire. However, the front desk attendant (I can give name if desired) brought me into the garage and showed me that my power steering fluid was dirty and should be flushed. I agreed and paid for the service. Do Mavis mechanics check certain systems no matter what you bring your car in for, much like dealerships do, or should he not have been anywhere near my power steering fluid for a flat tire?

Several weeks later, I brought my car in for a NYS inspection. He (the [redacted] this time) called me to tell me that my power steering fluid was dirty and that both that and my brake fluid needed to be changed. When I challenged him on it, stating that they had, in fact, just changed my power steering fluid he backpedaled and said that he only recommended it because of the mileage of the car. Unfortunately for him, he had also told my wife that the fluid was dirty before she handed the phone off to me so we know he was lying.Desired Settlement: I want this shop investigated for unethical business practices in order to solicit unnecessary service and repairs. I also want a refund for the power steering fluid flush because now I doubt that I ever needed it in the first place and suspect they tampered with the fluid in order to influence me to purchase the service.

Review: Sunday 8/**/13 I took my car and four new tires to Mavis. They took two hours to Put them on, the supervisor [redacted] drove my car out of the garage came back to give me My keys then stated he forgot to perform a wheel alignment. He then drove my car back Into the garage where I waited another half hour. When I had paid and was about to leave I went to check if my spare tire was replaced back in my trunk. Doing this I discovered Damage to my back bumper. I immediately notified [redacted] where he took pictures of it for me And said he would send them to his manager [redacted]. I came back the next day at 9:00am to Show [redacted] the damage and he knew nothing about it. He informed me that the main corporate Office would have to review the tape surveillance and get back to me. I then drove home only To find there was extensive damage done to the entire passenger side of my vehicle. I called [redacted] To notify him of this and he said he would make a note of it for the tape. He finally got back to me Saying that the corporate office didn't see any side damaged in the video. I then requested my own Copy to make sure they watched the video from when I arrived approximately 1:10 pm-3:30pm. I Waited a full week and the day I was promised the video I got a call from [redacted] saying I have the go Ahead to fix my entire car. I got an estimate from my body shop and dropped it off at Mavis in Newburgh Only to hear that [redacted] no longer worked there. Two weeks later I call about the estimate and talk to The new manager [redacted] who knows nothing of my case. He then calls me back a couple days later saying My estimate was denied because Mavis only agreed to pay for the back bumper and fender. I still have not Received my copy of the video tape and was refused to be helped because the regional manager [redacted] was out Of the country for the past week. How is it one manager says he got an email stating I can get the damage done To my car fixed, then when a new one replaces him they change their minds? I called the main corporate office many times and spoke with several of the operators who said that one my file it says I have the right for my car to be fixed yet the new manager is calling my body shop saying only the bumper and fender is to be fixed. This has been going on way too long and Mavis needs to be honest and fix the damage they did to my car!Desired Settlement: My desired outcome is for Mavis to pay for All of the damage they did to my car. I would also like a copy of the video surveillance of my car.

At this time, I have been contacted directly by mavis discount tire regarding complaint ID [redacted], however my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

[Your Answer Here]

Mavis has agreed to pay for the back bumper damage because it was on the surveillance tape. They are refusing to pay for the side damage to my car because they said it happened after I left. Anyone who goes to Mavis should take pictures of their vehicle before hand because these guys are not honest people!!

Had snow tires mounted and an alignment done. Four season radials were NOT marked before bagging for storage, so now careful rotation of expensive Michelin radials is all screwed up! This after Mavis personnel stressed how important PROPER rotation is for tire life. And steering wheel was left off center, canted to the left after alignment!

Review: The health issue is I and my young granddaughter could die in this car while traveling due to the shoddy repair work (actually they didn't even repair the issue) done by this company.

I went to Mavis Discount Tire originally on 10/**/2015 to have work done w/a power steering fluid loss. The bill totaled 383. and some odd cents, believing I was good now I continued to drive this automobile. On 12/*/2015 I was back at the same Mavis with again the same power steering issue, another bill more work now it's 280.00 for this work, so far a grand total of 644.00 spent. 25 days later the same problem power steering I go back to this Mavis and am told first off that the work they performed was only temporary. Really?? Why wasn't something said? They were quick to get my credit card they were quick w/the price. So I said you have to fix this you have to stand behind your work. With that I was told it would be another 700. and besides Mavis doesn't do that kind of work. What!! Why did they touch my car in the first place. They took money from a sick man and a woman waiting for disability to go through like it was no big deal. Now that they can't repair the issue their corporate office does nothing, they don't even return calls and I have had to turn to such resources as the attorney general and the Revdex.com of new York. I would like my money returned in full so that I can have the proper work done on my car. I believe they purposely defrauded me and who knows how many others, both consumer and professional agencies such as insurance companies. They do not stand behind their work, they have shoddy mechanics who dont' even know how to do the work and when they are caught w/their pants down they turn their head and expect the consumer to just go away, I will refuse I believe they owe me the right to a proper functioning car not just do work they can't do under the guise of being able to do the work and then taking the hard earned money of a trusting consumer.Desired Settlement: I would like to see the money from the two invoices where the work was supposed to have been done refunded to both credit cards. I furthermore would like the public and any other agency dealing w/this company to be made aware of the problems w/using mavis for anything other than putting a tire on your vehicle.

Response:

Customer visited the store in December complaining of something leaking on her vehicle. Customer works for advanced auto, she came to us with rack boots to have us install them to resolve the leak. We advised the customer verbally and on record that she would need her rack and pinions done soon. The only work Mavis did was to install the rack boots that she provided us. Customer returned after the boots were installed complaining of the same leak. As a courtesy our regional offered to install the rack and pinion we had originally advised for cost only ($200). Customer didn't want to resolve the issue with the regional any further at that point and forwarded her concerns to the Attorney General. At this point, Mavis has to wait until we hear from them to take our next action. The offer of installing the rack and pinion for cost only ($200) still stands. Thank you

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

[Your Answer Here]Mavis not once offered to fix this car I was told the car required power steering unit at a cost of 700.00 there was no mention of a 200.00 rack and pinion offer. I don't want them to touch my car I don't feel they are qualified and that 'feeling' is based upon the fact they have told me they're not sure of their own mechanics work as far as certain mechanical issues are concerned. I won't let them work on my car.

Response:

We advised the customer in person and on record of the rack and pinion work her car needed. She only advised us to put the rack boots she provided at that time. Unfortunately, Mavis is not responsible for the work the customer chose not to have done at the time of suggestion. We are still willing to try and help the customer as a courtesy by installing the rack and pinions at our cost ($200). Thank you

Review: On 7/**/13 I purchased four new tires for my car totaling $601.59. On 8/**/13 My right rear tire blew a hole on the inside wall of the tire. Since it was just over a month old, I went back to Mavis and told them that the tire was defective. I could tell from when I walked in that they had no interest in helping me and were going to say it wasn't and charge me for a new tire. Which is exactly what they did. They told me I needed to buy a new tire and it was because I hit a pot hole (even though it was the inside wall that was the problem). I did not buy a tire from them. I took the tire to an outside dealer who looked at the tire and said it was clearly defective. They said that if it was from a pot hole there would marks around the rim and where the pot hole hit the tire and also where the tire blew the hole they said that it was missing nylon inside. They said it was definitely defective. (That store did not have my tire in stock so I could not go to them). I needed me car repaired so I went to the Mavis in Nanuet, NY. I was charged $117.35 for a new tire.Desired Settlement: Since it is clear that the tire was defective and they just wanted to charge me for a new tire, I am requesting a refund of $117.35 since my original tire was around a month old and the tire blew a hole on the inside wall and nylon was missing on the inside of the tire where the holes were and I had confirmation from another shop. I feel I got taken, after spending $601.59 on four tires, I now had to spend an additional $117.35 because of something that was not my doing or regular wear and tear and was clearly defective. I could tell they are not in the business of good customer service and could not be bothered with dealing with a defective tire. It was clear it was easier for them just to charge me which is unfair.

Review: My son brought a flat tire to this tire shop for repair. He was told the tpms valve sensor was bad and needed replacing . The repair shop did not further investigate why the tire was flat to begin with and charged me $120.00 for the replacement of the sensor .My son brought the tire home and installed it on the car to find out the tire that was just repaired and charged $120.00 was flat. He filled it with air and drove the car back to the repair shop. He was told that there was a nail in the tire and told my son that they would fix and wave the repair costs of $20.00 .I was charged $120.00 for a repair that was not necessary. This problem was misdiagnosed by the tire shop and I don't feel I should have to pay for their mistakes. I am willing to pay for the flat but not for the $120.00.Desired Settlement: A full refund of the misdiagnosed $120.00 and am willing to pay for the fixing of the flat which my son was told was $20.00

Review: On March **, 2015 I brought my 2001 Santorian Blue Audi A4 into Mavis' Centereach, NY location for a routine tire rotation. Upon dropping the vehicle off, there was no damage to the front bumper whatsoever. After waiting an entire day for a simple tire rotation, I went to pick up the car and noticed the headlight washer cap on the passenger side of the car was damaged. I promptly contacted Mavis and I was told that the shop's surveillance videos would be looked over to confirm whether or not damage was done to my car.

This issue was juggled between the store manager, Patrick D[redacted], and the regional manager. It seemed as though they did not communicate among each other about my issue whatsoever. Instead, I simply got a series of empty promises. About a month went by and they finally told me that they did not see anything on the video tapes. Note that I have not yet seen these tapes personally; for all I know (at this rate) they could very well be lying to me. They DID NOT say that they didn't damage my car, all they said was that "nobody was near the front bumper during the rotation."

Nonetheless, they agreed to purchase a new part for me (as a customer gratuity), but told me that I'd have to have it painted to match my car separately. I reluctantly agreed to this outcome (back in April) and I'm still waiting. I've made several calls to the store and each time I've heard something different. One time I was told that the part was ordered and that it was currently in the mail. Another time (after the aforementioned call), I spoke with Pat personally. He sounded confused over the phone and had thought that the regional manager was handling the situation. He nonetheless assured me that he would be speaking with the regional manager within the next couple days and that I should receive a call form him within the next couple days. That was over a month ago and I'm still waiting for a call.Desired Settlement: I would like Mavis to purchase a new headlight washer cap for my car AND to have it painted to match my car.

Review: I needed new tires. I went to Mavis Discount Tire, [redacted] on Friday October **, 2013. I told them the make and style of tire I wanted for my 2005 Subaru Forester, and they told me they would have to order the Continental brand tires. I put a $50 deposit on the tires and was told they would be available on October **. They were not available until late [redacted] October **. I went to the store on October ** to have the tires installed. The store manager, [redacted], told me that I needed a total power steering flush, and that he would give me a "deal" and only charge me $40. I told him I didn't need it but would call my mechanic. I called my regular mechanic, who had seen my car just two weeks previously, who said that power steering fluid flushes were a scam, and that I didn't need anything done. I hung up the phone and [redacted] told me he had already performed the service. He also told me that I needed all four (4) of my struts replaced, which my master mechanic told me I didn't need. [redacted] tried to charge me more than $126 per strut, and the service wasn't required. [redacted] presented me with a bill that included $40 for the power steering fluid flush that I hadn't authorized as well as a higher price for the tires than I had authorized. These tires are listed on the Mavis website for $107 per tire. [redacted] charged me $124.99 per tire as well as a $12.99 "16" rim computer balance package" that he didn't explain or inform me of. In all, what should have cost about $440 I was charged $602.97 for, and was advised to spend hundreds more. I believe I was taken advantage of. My car was also filthy when it was returned to me. The steering wheel was caked in mud or dirt, which was not there when I handed the car over to the technicians.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund since I was overcharged, and the car was returned in such a bad state. The website still advertises a price they don't honor: http://www.mavistire.com/productcart/pc/_tiredetails.asp?id=34051&frb=B
