RE: ID # [redacted]To Whom It May Concern:[redacted] drove her vehicle into our shop, barely running, on 2-6-2014. She paid for the diagnostics and did not approve any repairs at this this time. We did adjust the timing at this time. She took the vehicle...

home and did some repairs herself. On 2-18-14. she returned with other prolems. At this time we did some repairs, replaced the carburator gasket and adjusted the timing. We noticed that the timing was off again, as either she did this herself or had another shop work on it She did tell us that another shop has worked on her vehicle prior to us and during our repairs and diagnostics. After this last repair, we marked certain settings and adjustments with tamper proof paint, and each time the vehicle came in, it was tampered with.On 3-05-2014, the vehicle came back in not running right. We diagnosed the ignition coil had shorted out. We replaced the coil and the vehicle ran well. We didn't hear back from her until April 2014, claiming that everything we did on her vehicle caused other parts to fail and she had to spend an additional amount of money for parts and repairs elsewhere. I explained to her that this is a 1968 Buick, and parts fail, plus she has worked on it herself as well as another shop. Each time we worked on this vehicle, somebody else had there hands in it afterwards.I did offer her a refund of services provided by us, in good faith, but she then swore at me on the phone and threatened to come down to my shop and "embarrass me"?  I'm not sure what she meant by this. I concluded the phone call at that time. She didn't agree with my offer so I did not issue one. She also stated that she was going after the other shop also for a refund on some work. performed by them.Thank you for your time,[redacted]

[redacted]This message is in regards to a rebuttal. I do not agree with the resolution because I have not heard back from Midas and they told me I could speak with a manager and they have not followed up regarding this issue I have had 3 other repair facilities including Midas look at my vehicle and these repair facilities have informed that I had no coolant when 2 months before this incident my coolant was flushed and hoses replaced by Midas. Therefore causing my vehicle to incur damages overheat and breakdown. I would like Midas to provide the funds to the repair facility of my choice for my vehicle repairs.Thank you[redacted]

Mike is being disingenuous; he never explained to me the brand or part number of the Pads and as I wrote before, we wouldn't be at this juncture of me having to return a fourth time if he had listened and fixed the problem the day of the original repair; he simply ignored my claims.  As far as the price of the pads, the highest quality Centric Pads I have found would cost me $27.79, not $80.00.  I'm not interested in Midas' lifetime Pad warranty and getting charged over retail prices for parts and that's why I buy my own.  If he insists in charging me $80.00 for parts I'll buy the Nissan OEM that cost exactly that or buy aftermarket parts from my supplier and he refunds the difference.  He can keep his "Midas' brake pad lifetime warranty"...I'm not interested in it! this is exactly how they get you back in the shop to rip you off by charging labor and for parts you don't need.  As far as the rotors, they'll have to be turned again and that just makes them less reliable.  Again, as I said, he resurfaced my rotors without telling me of their condition and I never authorized it.  I'll compromise on an aftermarket brand of OEM quality but I want my rotors replaced.

This complaint was settled with customer january 21,2015 without assuming blame on Midas. Background, customer  told shop it needed water pump. After diagnosing problem: Note: that customer stated it was not what they said it was.  Two hours oflabor to tear down and two hours to...

finish replace thermostat Replacing thermostat  (part that was replaced was defective and can be verified with supplier) the cost was due to the labor involved to have the work done. Customer was told of old and degraded hoses and declined,  could fix themselves. Customer replaced radiator and did not replace hoses and the hoses were leaking due to the fact that the hoses were not properly tightened which caused leaking Customer last visit to shop was january 10, 2014When a customer declines work and does it themselves, we are not responsible For work that  Midas did not perform. We do everything we can to appease and correct any problems that the shop or customer does themselves to a point,Respectfully,[redacted]Franchisee OwnerNote: Sorry for the lateness, have other business that have consumed time

My manager was out on vacation and just got back- I am putting together a rebuttal now.

Thank you.

When she came in to pick up her car the bill was as quoted.  When I went to finalize her repair in the computer, it locked up for what ever reason and had to be reset.  Then all of the numbers changed on the invoice.  After she left I rebuilt files and found the original quote, and...

credited all monies back to her.  This was before she returned to complain.  I handed her the new copies of the correct invoice and apologized for the inconveince.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.Frst as for hoses being bad I paid them $50 my second trip to replace the bad hoses they said were my new problem after that the thrid time back they said it was a bad thermostat so they replaced it again. The forth time back they broke the bleeder valve for the cooling system that I had replaced less than a year earlier wen it was leaking.  I declined them to charge me for that as it was 100% not cracked when I dropped it off so I picked up the car and fixed that myself. Then the following day when the car overheated again I took it to a different mechanic who removed the thermostat that they did replace but Midas chose to NOT replace the $2 gasket on the thermostat housing that they did remove two times previously.  Instead they caked rtv sealant on the housing trying to for what ever reason half do the job properly that I had gladly paid them to do in the first place. Because of the the sealed cooling system was leaking and sucking in air at that spot. The thought of a nation wide company fixing something the way a craigslist mechanic would is dumb founding.  It is also insulting they would even consider this my fault.  I never complained and paid cash for all work but hearing the same thing 4 different times that its fixed and we drove the car when it was nothing more than a lie. They have one goal and thats to half fix anything with what ever short cut is needed as long as cars are going in and out and money if flowing. so glad I got the "midas touch"

Thank you for responding I understand that the issue at hand has to be looked over by a manager. Please resolve this issue as soon as possible. I know I allowed H. Tyler the manager look over the car at Midas and he told me basically he is not taking responsibility for the issue but I believe if they were the last person that touch my vehicle and it broke down after that they did not do the job right to begin with and also if I had took my car to get the hoses replace in a coolant flush I don't understand why after 2 months I was out of coolant obviously there was some negligence on Midas behalf and if I have to I will proceed forth and involve my lawyer and I also thought it was very unprofessional for H Tyler to ask me to pay for a tow when he insisted I let him look at it which I did

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me.  I will wait until for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.

Regards,

I'm sorry that he is still having a problem.  And I explained to him, that the pads we used were the same brand as the brake shoes he purchased for the rear of his car.  They are a high quality.  We normally have NO noise with these pads.  and as I understand that GOD did not...

make them, none are perfect.  I have already explained to him to come back and we will take care of his complaint.  No Charge of course.  But he still has not come in for repair.  His complaint is with the product, not our labor. He obviously knows the quality, due to it is the same  brand that he purchased.  Centric Brakes are high quality.  All he needs to do is come in.
Thank you

Review: I took my car to this business to have the rear break pads/rotors replaced. Which they did do, and has been paid for. The issue is that they noted on the paperwork that the hood latch near the feet of the driver was broken. They did not tell me this was broken when they called before starting the repairs. They did not disclose the broken part when I picked up my car and paid the bill. I am the only person who drives my car, the part was not broken when I dropped it off.

When I called 15 minutes after leaving the shop to ask about the part they claimed it was already broken, and that another repair shop must have done it. I have only taken my car to drive up repair shops where I sit in the car and pop the hood myself. It is noted in the repair notes, but they never told me about it until I inquired after the repair process. It is written onto the repair notes.

They claim that the part still works, this worries me because the repairs that were done didn't need to have the hood popped. They broken the part, which they then tested it to see if it would work.

I feel that this happened mid repair and they wrote it down on my car notes to claim that it was already broken, when it was not. The latch does not work anymore to pop the hood of my car, the part needs to be replaced.Desired Settlement: I would like for the part to be replaced. They need to pay for the part and the labor to fix it. I did not drop off my car with this part broken, and now it is. It does not work anymore so it has to be fixed.

Review: I was under the impression I would receive free alignments with the purchase of my tires. Not only was it not free, when I called to make an appointment I thought they verified the free service, but they meant 50% off. Then when we showed up they charged the full amount. Even complaining didn't give a discount. I won't ever go there again. Not trustworthy.Desired Settlement: It would have been courteous for them to at least give me the 50% off that I was originally told when I called to schedule the appointment.

Business

Response:

The consumer is an [redacted]! We currently run a special "Buy 4 tires, get an alignment 1/2 off". 3 years ago we ran a special "Buy 4 tires, get a free alignment". She bought tires 3 years ago and we gave her a free alignment. The consumer thinks she should get an alignment for free for ever. We never implied that or advertised it that way. When they came in we explained it to her son and he authorized the alignment. It wasn't till her his mom got involved and made big stink about it. I don't care to have [redacted] customers. The best resolution is to let her go somewhere else and be a problem for my competition! Thanks

Review: Midas of [redacted] put in a used transmission and clutch in my car in mid February of this year. I've brought the car back to them numerous times because the clutch isn't working properly. Out of the seven times I brought the car back to them, only two times did they actually look at it. I brought it in on a Friday night to be repaired over the weekend for three consecutive weekends and was told that they didn't have time to look at it. They have replaced the throw-out bearing twice but it still doesn't work properly. I took my car back to the dealership and they want $1500 to repair it properly. Midas has held my car for days without even looking at it, telling me that its under warranty but either don't have time to fix it or that they can't figure out what the problem is. I paid $3500 for this repair and it still isn't fixed properly.Desired Settlement: I would like them to reimburse me $1500 so the dealership can repair the problem and I would also like them to refund me a portion of the $3500 they originally charged me.

Review: I was at Midas for service on my car because the service light was on the my RPM was high...The date I was there was 2/**/2014 and they took my car and promise they would fix it... They never call me but I had to call every day to find out was going on.. Finally I called on 2/**/2014 and was told it would cost $831.13 to fix it and I was promise this would fix the problem. I drive it home and the service light went back on and the same problem...I drive it back to Midas and was told to bring it back on Monday.. I went back again on Monday at 9:30am and never receive a call back I had to call again the next day. I receive the car the next day and drive it and same problem. They had my car total of 6days. I think they are playing with me because I'm [redacted] and will not give my money back because they never fix the problem. They stole my money and I didn't get my money back...Desired Settlement: Refund because they promise it will be fix and it's not

Consumer

Response:

At this time, I have been contacted directly by Midas regarding complaint ID [redacted], however my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

The complaint has not been resolved because they just cant fix the problem...They're telling me that they would have to take it to the car dealer and I would have to paid for it.....

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Sincerely,

Review: I presented my 2006 Dodge Stratus for New York State Emissions Inspection to the Midas franchisee referenced earlier. My car needed 2 oxygen sensors, causing it to fail inspection. The technician called the auto parts store literally across the street ([redacted]) for the sensors. The Midas invoice price to me for the parts was $84.88 and $107.83 for a total of $192.71. I checked with Advance, and the parts cost from them was quoted as $36.99 and $52.99 respectively, for a total of $89.98. This represents a markup of $102.83. Roughly a 115% markup! When I mentioned to the Midas store employee that the markup seemed high, he gave me a sheepish grin and said that is what the computer calculated.

I wrote an email to Midas Corporate, who replied that the issue was referred to the franchisee for resolution, and that I should be contacted by him within 2 business days. No effort was made by the franchisee to contact me. I again emailed Midas corporate, and again have heard nothing.

This complaint specifically relates to the price gouging by the franchisee for the parts installed on my vehicle.Desired Settlement: That the business change its parts pricing policy so that future customers are not subjected to outrageous markup for parts. Second, I would like a refund for the price difference between industry accepted markup on parts and that which I was charged. Lastly, Midas Corporate should be made aware of the gouging done by the franchisee, and a complete review of the franchisee's business practices should be conducted.

Review: I had a break job done here and the owner was really rude and disrespectful. I figured ok I will just ignore his rudness. This man left the bolts loose so my calipers could fall off. This was my wife's car I was having worked on and she drives our babies around.I wanted him not to work on my vehicle because he was really aggressive and rude but he told me that the car was already in the air and they already started. I told him ok but only do the front break. I took my business down the street to [redacted] where they finished all the work I needed done. The [redacted] mechanic told me that the bolts on my calipers were falling off and loose. I have in writing from the [redacted] mechanic saying this is true. I then went back to Midas and explained the problem and my concern and he told me to take my business somewhere else and not to return. I have never been treated like this before and the problem was if the bolt would've came all the way out of my break system and my wife and kids were in the car, there could've been lives lost.I explained all this to the owner at Midas but he did not care.Desired Settlement: The owner had a helicoil bolt put into my caliper that wasn't needed. He charged me 100.00 for this little bolt. This is the critical bolt that was left loose. [redacted] replaced it with the right bolt it needed. For putting my wife and kids life in danger I feel like I need to be paid for this un-needed bolt. 100.00. I have the receipt and paperwork.

Business

Response:

I called and left a message with [redacted] voice mail. I offered the $100.00 charge back as the heli-coil was not successful in holding the caliper bolt in place.

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. I would never recommend anyone to go here. The owner is nice but his manager is very disrespectful and rude.

Review: Midas Modesto is all about making money every chance they get, they tried to rip me off for over $700 just to replace my break pads and clean the rotors on my 2007 Honda Civic, something that only cost me at another business just down the street $187, and since I did not take up their offer they ripped me off for over $70 for an oil change, I have the receipt. They are constantly over charging and ripping people off for simple repairs. You can go on google.com and look up the reviews, I am not the only one with this complaint. This business needs to be looked into. This is in no way right! This business is a scam and completely taking advantage of people on a daily basis!Desired Settlement: I request a full refund of my oil change from 15Dec2014 and for this company to be inspected and given a fail for any inspection or awards for the next year. I would be happy if this business would shut down completely or have whole new ownership right away! I am a retired Navy Veteran of 6 years, I am ashamed of a local business trying to take advantage of it's customers on a daily basis! They smile at your face while raping your wallet! THIS NEEDS TO BE DEALT WITH NOW PLEASE!

Revdex.com,After being on hold for the last 22 minutes with regards to questions about how to send you all the information I have on this situation with [redacted], I decided to send as much that would fit in the attachments. I hope it is enough to assure you that I take my business very seriously and in no way ever want to make customers feel that they get ripped off. Now on to the issues.[redacted] came into the shop on 11/15/2014 requesting an oil change and a brake inspection. My CSR, [redacted] asked what type of problems she was having with the brakes and if they had been worked on recently. [redacted] responded that she is having to press on the brake pedal harder and having to use the parking brake just to get it to stop. Also she stated that her fathers mechanic had recently worked on them. We normally offer a free brake inspection except when we have to diagnose someone else's work as it takes longer to verify what has been done and if the correct parts were used or possible masking of other issues in the system. [redacted] explained that the oil change service was $29.99 plus tax and the brake inspection is $48.28. Those items were submitted by [redacted] to you in the complaint.I asked her before I test drove the vehicle what issues she was having. She explained that it is harder to stop the vehicle and she has to use the parking brake when stopping to ensure she stops in time. I test drove the vehicle and noticed slightly more pedal pressure required but also a pulsation from the rear drums during stopping (because she was overheating the drums from excessive use of the parking brake while driving). The brake evaluation revealed that the front pads were worn, both front caliper boots were torn (scan0019JPG). According to the MAP Guidelines (Motorist Assurance Program) which we prescribe to, the calipers are a required replacement (scan0021JPG & scan0022JPG).We then wrote an estimate for required replacement of the brake pads, calipers, and resurfacing the rear brake drums. The suggested items were to replace the disc hardware and resurface the front brake rotors. The customer declined the work and apparently had the work done for $187.00. I can assure you that the other shop did not catch the torn caliper boots and they probably do not have an approved brake inspection or process. A copy of the final invoice, last page only is on (scan0024JPG).In review of the complaint and accusations [redacted] is making, I don't think she fully understood [redacted] when she explained the reason for the cost of the brake inspection even though she authorized the work. In further thought, I would be concerned what shop is doing substandard work. Overselling is a terrible situation that no just business owner should ever want. Underselling is ignorance! If you have any other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.Thank you[redacted]

I started using this Midas several years ago on a recommendation from someone I met in the supermarket checkout. They are amazing and very professional. [redacted] and [redacted] have always made sure I knew the costs and what I really did need and did not need to keep my jalopy running. My Toyota RAV4 made it to 350,000 miles thanks to them and their expert repairs. They will not talk you into repairs which are unnecessary. They also let me know that my 1996 Chevy Cheyenne is very near it's end and not to throw good money after bad. I travel 166 miles daily and they have made the difference in keeping me on the road and my car/truck safe to drive. I would highly recommend this Midas shop and [redacted] to anyone looking for a reliable and honest mechanic!

Review: On Saturday, 11/7/15, I went to Midas with my teenage son to repair the door mechanism for closing rear passenger window of my son’s car. We were quoted that the repair would cost $304 and would take about 2 hours.

After about 2 hours, once the car was repaired and my son went to pick it up, Midas attempted to charge his debit card $369 for the repair. Thankfully, the bank blocked the charge, as it was an unusual spending pattern for him. When I was notified about this by my son, and called Midas questioning the charge, I was told that if I did not agree to pay the price of the repair, the mechanism that was just installed to close the window would be removed.

I tried to resolve this issue by reasoning that the price was unfairly raised and I was not given an opportunity to decide whether I wanted to go ahead with the repair, given the price change. The Midas employee insisted that the cost would be $369 because he made an error in his initial quote; otherwise he would remove the part that was installed, which I ultimately asked him to do. At that point he told me that he would charge me $200 to remove it. But that if I agreed to keep it, he would then lower the repair price to $320.

I reluctantly agreed, even though the final charge was more than the initial quote. I provided my credit card information over the phone, only to later find that I was charged $328.47. I am very disappointed at Midas’ unfair and dishonest practices, and frankly apalled at an attempt to take advantage of a teenager paying with his debit card. We will not be using Midas again.

Review: I'VE BEEN A LOYAL MIDAS AUTO SERVICE CUSTOMER FOR YEARS, UNTIL I NEEDED AN OIL CHANGE ON 5/16/2013 WHICH ALMOST DESTROYED MY CAR ENGINE.BECAUSE OF THE WORK PERFORMED, IT RESULTED INSTRIPING THE THREAD IN OIL PAN DRAIN HOLE. AND THEY DECIDED TO USE A RUBBER PLUG, COME TO FIND OUT IT NOT DESIGNED FOR A SUSTAIN USED AS AND OIL PAN DRAIN PLUG. I LOST FAITH IN MIDAS. I WENT ON LINE AND BOUGHT A NEW OIL PAN AND GASKET COSTING $223.27 AND HAD [redacted] INSTALL THE PARTS COSTING $250.17 THIS IS NOT FAIR.

We feel our offer of an in store credit is fair. The customer never contacted us prior to having the repair performed.

Review: I have been going to Midas in [redacted] for over 1 year for my oil changes and the first problem was when they did not tell my my engine coolant was very brown until I had an issue and brought it there for a radiator flush after the temperature gauge kept rising at a stop. When I brought it there I asked what an oil change involved and they stated checking fluids, making recommendations and tire rotations. That is when I asked why no one told me about my coolant so they did the flush for free but it was too late and I had to replace my thermostat. Now they are telling me my rear bearings and drums need to be replaced as the car is making noise. The car has been making that noise for almost a year and they are just now telling me. That is very dangerous to drive with I could have been seriously hurt or killed as I was working in [redacted] for that time frame. If the oil change includes rotating the tires and my bills state they have done so then I believe they should have known about this problem along time ago. Also they allowed me to take my car knowing my tires could freeze up or fall off.Desired Settlement: I would like them to either repair the problem for free or compensate me for having to get the job done somewhere else and having to pay out of pocket for such repairs.

Business

Response:

This customer's vehicle has never been road tested by our shop as the only services that have been performed were oil changes and a coolant flush, which do not require a road test. The only way we could have known that the wheel bearings were going bad was if the customer advised us she heard a noise or we heard the noise upon a road test. When the wheel bearings were so badly worn, the noise produced could be heard at a speed of under 5mph (which is the speed at which a vehicle is driven in a parking lot, into a repair bay and onto a lift). This customer was in 4 times previous to our estimate of 6/5/15 and never once advised us of any issues with the vehicle. Customer stated to me in a phone call today that she had heard the noise for the last year, but never said anything because she assumed it was just her tires (which she had replaced a year ago at a different repair facility). Customer agrees she should have made us aware of the noise during her previous visits and agrees that we are not responsible.[redacted] OwnerMidas Auto Service Experts
