The program was a decent update of ***, though the #writingstyle was grating.
The account related service, however, is abysmal. I'm not complaining about the auto-charging of 2 months at once (which was a surprise, but I'm sure I agreed to it in a fog of sign-up mania).
I AM complaining about how I cannot get anyone except the poor woman running the *** account to reply to my repeated requests for help with a billing issue.
My subscription did not auto-renew for some reason, but I got no notice that there was a problem, and it was suddenly canceled when I'm 2lbs away from my goal!
I can't update my billing info through the app/site to resubscribe (and I can't tell if this is a bug or by design—but it's not user error, there is definitely no option).
The FAQ about billing issues routes you to an email form, which I've tried 3 times over the past week—not one of my emails have been answered in over 4 days, (other than an automated response to say that they'll get back to me). That's not ok when you're supporting a service that is supposed to build habits and be used EVERY DAY.
Out of desperation, I messaged the woman who runs their *** account, who tried to help, but isn't really empowered to. She offered some things I could try, but couldn't give me a phone number to call or any other tangible help. She said "unfortunately, we don't offer a phone service at this time. I understand that this is frustrating and will be sure to let my supervisors know that this feature is more demanded than we originally recognized." Not her fault, but come on—if you don't have customer service reps, you'd better make sure your app is flawless, and SELF-SERVE.
What's funny is I'm trying to give them money to keep using their service, and I have literally no way to do that. I'm adding this review as a warning to others, and as a plea for customer support. Noom, if you're reading this, please give me something—and get account/billing features and fixes on your product roadmap!
I see that there's an 800 number for Noom listed on this Revdex.com profile. I will call tomorrow and see if someone at corporate wants to listen to my rant or take my money...
The program is good, it has helped me lose weight. However, the app is clunky and buggy, and tech support is virtually nonexistent. Issues I've had:
1) I went to "settings" "account" "update your info" because it said "click here to download your meal, exercise, and weight history from Noom's servers." Instead of downloading anything, it reset all my goals and targets and calorie budget. I reported this issue to my coach on March 28, she reported it to tech support on March 29, and as of April 9 all I have received is a generic "we have received your message" email. This is greatly interfering with my ability to use the app I am paying almost $40 a month for. This is an inexcusable response time for a paid service.
2) The exercise logging part of the app is terrible -- very hard to change the settings, and you can't access any other parts of the app while it is running. I was trying to track a workout, and wanted to look at a Noom article with exercise instructions to tell me how to do my workout, but I was unable to access any articles while the exercise tracker was running.
3) When I save articles it sometimes only saves one page of them, and there is no easy link to get back to the full article. I saved the "Work It Out" article on the bodyweight exercises page, and then decided I wanted to try the freeweight exercises instead. But there was no way to go back and choose that option. So I had to go through every day in the past 2 weeks looking for that article to be able to get to the freeweight exercises page.
4) The food database is inadequate and slow to update. I have entered several recipes or prepackaged meals and even though I went through the trouble of entering all the nutrition info, the meals don't get sorted into red, yellow, or green. So it makes it really hard to track the balance of calories in my budget for that day. My coach said it takes 2-4 weeks for the database to refresh and update, which seems ridiculously slow when you are selling a 16-week program. But you aren't even meeting that goal --I added meals in the beginning of March that are still not showing up in the database on April 9.
I like the content, the lessons and the red, yellow, green method of food tracking. That is the only reason I am giving this 2 stars instead of 1. At this point I have taken what I've learned so far and have switched to using the free *** app to track food and workouts. Their food database is way better, the exercise tracking is much smoother, and the app has fewer bugs. I am continuing to lose weight by using ***, so I will not be renewing Noom at the next billing cycle.
The premise is good. I did all the add ons in the beginning and I wish I had saved my money as the meal and fitness plans were cookie cutter pdfs and the DNA results talked in circles and contradicted one another because each gene they tested was looked at individually rather than analyzing what this means to me, "a whole person" with all those various genes.
When I discussed my frustration with their meal plan and they were unable to provide any guidance at all on what my diet should or could look like in light of my health need that requires a low fat, no dairy, gluten free diet, they did refund the portion of my payment that they felt was allocated toward the automated meal plan they provided to me.
The content is bite sized and easy to follow. I think overall it's decent but for the price I'm really disappointed with the lack of attention to quality. The content seems thrown together and riddled with grammar and punctuation issues. I think they also try to be "too cool" and "informal" in their writing style. There's not a lot of meat each day, but that's their methodology and it seems to make a difference if you have 20-30 minutes a day to wrap through reading, quizzes and logging (not to mention your "support group").
The support team members are nice but don't seem to have a solid grasp on health and fitness so don't expect to engage in dialogue about real and unique 'you'. Rather, they are well versed in the running the app, sharing cookie cutter "accolades", "topics for discussion" and "reminders". It's a combo of automated messages and real people who are working their app business plan for customer service (which doesn't seem to require knowledge about health and fitness).
The groups are not very active, though Noom does try all the expected tactics for continuing to engage you and encourage you to participate. The problem is more that it doesn't seem like what the subscribers want (by evidence of their limited participation).
After roughly 50 days of using the app I can say that I like Noom's "red, green, yellow" food analysis of the daily food log the best and overall their logging system is okay but not quite as good or indepth as *** which offers a free version. In otherwords, the part I like the most is powered by a subpar logging and analysis system to a competitor's free version. However, the "red, green, yellow" food methodology is simple, visual, and unique. I also like the concept of focusing on the psychology, your relationship with food, rather than jumping on the next diet fad. I think this methodology is refreshing and could be helpful for many struggling souls. I gave it a 3 star average, it's acceptable but leaves me disappointed considering the hype around their advertising and the price.
I'm very happy with my experience using Noom. It appears that MANY people have worked very hard to put together a succinct "program" from tons of research. I love that ANYONE, with any taste set can use the info to "curb", not completely omit foods they enjoy. I love that the research is short, fun (and even funny). It doesn't feel "binding", but opens eyes to all sorts of accomplishments. I LOVE THAT IT WORKS! ?? ??
I appreciate that NOOM dives into the "Why behind the why" of my eating habits: sleep and stess, peer pressure, food triggers, connections (or sometimes lack there of) between my weight goals and my happiness.
Beyond the daily reading, my favorite part is the calarie budget. Being a financial advisor, I understand budgeting money, so to transfer those principles to my food was a seemless and very powerful connection (moderation, opportunity cost, communicating with my spouse, and personal discipline).
I have already lost 18 lbs and still going strong. I feel healthier and empowered (which I have never said about a diet). Well worth the price. Thank you NOOM.
Kudos to daily program that keeps me constantly accountable to taking good care of myself. I think all the scientifically-backed info plus the guiding psychological plan helps me keep motivated and curious. Social support is challenging for me to share but makes sense and is supportive and affirming so far.
Thank you!
I love the flexibility and simplicity of the Noom app. The information given is awesome. Some I use, some I don't, but ideas and suggestions are out there to try what works for me. Nothing is time consuming. The antidotes mixed with humor makes for a great start to my morning, and set the tone for the day. Great support is offered by the coaches and group members. Billing was explained easily. Try the trial. Once that is over, if I have not canceled, I will be billed for a certain number of months. If I don't cancel after that, I will be billed again for a certain number of months. Easy enough.
Most every challenge worth pursuing is easier when it’s shared, with family, friends, even strangers. The urge to quit is often changed to a desire to go on when someone is beside you urging you on, or behind you pushing, or ahead of you pulling. Face it - lifestyle changes are inherently difficult, regardless of how positive we consider the potential change to be. This is especially do when it comes to changing how and what we eat or how often and to what extent we exercise. The Noom program - for me - is effective for a few reasons. Firstly, it’s not another fitness regimen that I’m doing in a vacuum - there are other there are other real people struggling to succeed with the same program and it’s helpful to follow individual successes, failures and recoveries. Secondly, I find the daily articles directly helpful but they also lead me to find other relevant articles that are useful in working toward my personal goals. And thirdly, I find it extremely useful having the logs at my fingertips for researching food values, recording menus, and logging meals, exercise and weight. The feedback and narrative can often be too cute, but that’s a small price to pay for such an innovative program overall. Well done.
I feel like Noom is keeping me true to myself. I am logging my food, logging my exercise, logging my weight, and learning new things every day when reading the excerpts of knowledge. Unfortunately I’ve hit a weight plateau which I can’t seem to break. But, I’m sticking with the program. I feel better about myself while using Noom.
I really enjoyed working through the daily tasks. However, some days-- specially, over the weekends, this was very challenging for me and I often had to play catch up. This was fine but once the group chats started I felt farther behind. Regardless, I really appreciated the information I learned. Unfortunately as I was working through my 5th week (I think) I seemed to lose all of my prior information (saved articles), individual communications with my coach, and my group communications. This was a bummer but not end of the world. I am keeping in mind much of the information as I can and I am continuing to make good (but slow) progress. Thank you!
I was given a free trial and quit the app after two days. I was surprisingly then charged $129 dollars that I was not told would happen when I signed up on the app. I tried to email them but was told I would not get a refund. I do not think this is a fair or transparent practice.
I just woke up this morning to $160.00 being taken out of my *** account at 5:15am. I assumed this was going to be a subscription service of maybe $50.00 a month? I seriously woke up and cried this morning. So I just paid through December for a sub par app that I was not impressed with and they refuse to refund me my money because apparently I was aware of this? Good thing I pay with *** so the joke is on you clowns. So, if you do decide to use this app and you decide to not use it please do yourself a favor and cancel it before they rip you off. Thanks noom for taking advantage of fat people. Seriously I want to lose weight but now I also want to go eat a whole bag of doritos because of your shady business practices. I hope you get what's coming to you.
I've been using Noom for about 7 weeks now and for me there are both pros and cons. I wouldn't say that this program will change your life dramatically unless you've been very bad with your health and have a lot of issues. I have only lost a couple of pounds, however, as they say there are always other ways to measure success. The biggest "pro" for me has been their food labeling system of red, yellow and green. That has helped me stay on track better than anything else before.
My coach has been a minimal force in my program. She's supposed to check in with me every week, but it's more like when she thinks about it. However, if I have questions of her she gets back to me right away.
The group I'm in has way to many people. I think we are somewhere between 40-60 people. Only about 15 of us really respond on a daily or weekly basis. Way too many people in a group.
The information they provide is good information but many times it's too much at one time to digest it all. It's a lot to cram into 3 months. But overall I'd say it's a decent program. Like everything in life you have to work it to make it work for you.
I do love Noom! Down 8 pounds since I started. It's the longest I have stuck with any weight loss program 5 weeks. Really like the color coding of food and daily psychological tips. Oh and the recipes I have tried are delicious! I have more to lose but I BELIEVE I can do it ! No issue with price as there was full transparency of the cost.
Love NOOM. witty coaching, keeps me interested in reading it.
I get a little overwhelmed at times, with all the information, however, when I get the chance, I make a point of going back to catch up.
I haven't lost a pound !, but this is my life story, with all attempts at dieting. I do however feel very well informed about all thats going on in my body, relationship to food, and plateaus etc with all the noom nerd info. Well done. !
I am looking forward to being successful. I like that the coaching is weekly, I love that the group can provide their information, so its not scripted (not that the coach sounds scripted at all though either)
all around a good program.
I like the daily features such as the psychological articles and tips as well as the progress reports (weight and eating diary). The grouping of foods into green, yellow, and red is still a little confusing but ultimately helpful in making food decisions. I was using another food tracker but not losing weight. I feel that Noom has a more accurate count of the number of calories I should consume to lose weight, and the food colors help in deciding how to dole out those calories each day.
The personal advisor is only somewhat helpful. I feel like she asks me what I think rather than advising me on what I could try for the problem I'm focusing on this week. I also rarely use the group chat feature. Although reading others' messages can be helpful (such as recipes), I'm just not a person who needs social support to lose weight. However, this is probably an important feature for many users, and I like that the app doesn't require users to participate if they don't want to.
I don't always get the daily reading, and didn't realize it went on without me. Now I'm all over the place & trying to catch up.
The concept is so easy and non-confrontational or intimidating. The reason for not rating a fifth star is that there is no consideration for retirees who don't have work related temptations/ situations. Many of the scenarios are in workplaces that don't relate to me.
End of free trial notification links to cancel resulted in no connection to company. No and/or late responses to emails requesting cancellation.
Charged for 4 months and only a vague response regarding any general issues with a non working link provided.
