Review: According to their website, they will provide detailed information about a person, including addresses, using reverse lookup based on phone numbers, including cell phones. As their site claims:

"Reverse Phone results are instant and up-to-date!

Identify unknown phone numbers – data is continuously updated!

Anytime, anywhere access from your mobile device, tablet or computer.

All reports and memberships include non-published, unlisted and cell phones."

When they produce outdated, useless information, suddenly the "up-to-date" assertion is off the table. You have no option to change the rules, however, so they keep your money. They are so committed to extreme unethical policies they will spend more money fighting with you than it would cost to simply refund the money.

At this point, I expect either "up-to-date" information or a refund.Desired Settlement: Just refund the $3.95 to my card.

Response:

our data is derived from Public Records. We do continually update our data bases. However, the reason why our Terms of Use state that the data cannot be guaranteed is because it depends on the person themselves reporting it in one matter or another to public record. The fee we charge is not for the accuracy of the data , but to conduct the search in our data base. Per our Terms of Use the product is not refundable.

Review: The billing practices of this company is unscrupulous, deceptive & fraudulent. They duped me into getting 2 information reports charging me less than $1 for them. In time, and without my consent, they used my credit card information to sign me up for one of their revolving monthly memberships for $24.95. This was not authorized and was without my consent or permission. I have contested the charges with my bank but the shameless crooks are still fighting me over this. It is shameful to steal money like this. Through my investigations of this company I have discovered it is an industry problem. Their competitors do the same thing. In addition, what you think is their competitor really isnt. It is just another website they own and operate. I have contacted peoplefinders.com several times to get my money refunded but their customer service staff are hardcore and combative. They will not refund your money. In addition, I have contacted their business email and have not even gotten a response. They sent me an email invoice for the legitimate charge of $0.95 but I have never received an invoice for the monthly charges. They depend on your laziness to not notice on your bank statement they are charging you. In fact, they use a 3rd party biller for that very reason. The charges on your bank statement never say peoplefinders.com anywhere.Desired Settlement: I want every $24.95 charge to be refunded to me. I paid for the $0.95 for the 2 reports. I agree to pay for that. However, those are 2 reports are the only time I ever used peoplefinders.com services. I want ALL the $24.95 monthly charges refunded to me.

Response:

At the time of purchase you had the choice between a normal priced report at $1.95 and the same product at a discounted price. Our records show you chose to receive the discounted price ($0.95) for signing up for a 3 day trial to our Membership. This membership allowed you to receive an unlimited number of:•People Searches – Get the facts you need to find anyone, anywhere•Email Searches – Obtain email addresses, or learn about the owner of anyaddress•Social Profile Searches – See updates on all of your friend’s social profilesin one spot•Marriage Searches – Find out if a man or woman has ever been married•Divorce Searches – Check the divorce status of any man or woman•Property Searches – Learn about any piece of property, including the currentowner and valueYou were clearly and concisely notified about the trial membership and automatic renewal that comes with this discounted product on each page of checkout. As stated, you had the option to cancel this membership trial at any time via your account manager on the website, via email, or via phone. We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this trial. In fact, we have no record of any direct contact from you regarding this account. The 3 day trial has ended; therefore, you were charged the membership fee on the fourth day, and for every month thereafter. We have cancelled the automatic renewal of your membership per this complaint. You have stated that you already contacted your bank or Credit Card Company and filed a dispute. Often, due to the dispute, you are given a conditional refund by your bank; therefore we cannot offer you a refund. Please allow time for your financial institution to review the charges for validity. Usually this process will take a few billing cycles and they will notify you of the outcome via mail. You will now need to follow their policies and procedures regarding these charges.

Review: I recently signed up for a trial membership for $2.95 and was given 3 days to cancel before I would be charged $24.95/monthly. I called the customer support number requesting my trial to be cancelled within the three days given. People Finders Tech Support would not allow me to simply cancel my membership over the phone. Tech Support requested I download a program (which I did) so he could access my computer with his mouse in order to cancel my account. This made me very uncomfortable as I use my computer for work. I asked him to simply cancel my account via phone and he started to give me the run around and get really short with me. At this point I shut my computer off as I saw his mouse running my computer and opening code that showed programs and websites I've used. I let him know he was making me very uncomfortable and asked to speak to his Supervisor. I asked the Supervisor to simply cancel my account via phone. The Supervisor refused to help me further without accessing my computer and told me to have a good day. Hung up.Desired Settlement: I want my membership canceled without them accessing my computer.

Response:

Our records show your [redacted] trial membership was started on 10/19/2015 and successfully cancelled via email on 10/21/2015, within the three day trial. We are concerned because the interaction you are describing was not with PeopleFinders.com. Our phone number is [redacted]. Please compare that number to the one you called. We do accept cancellations online, via email and over the phone. We want to stress that we will never remote-connect to a customer's computer.

This company is a rip-off. They were supposed to report public records on the person for whom I submitted a search. I know that there have been two divorces for this person. However, not one was reported.

Review: In October of 2112, I was looking for a long lost friend, and tried to use peoplefinder. They had no real information. Within an hour of first joining, I called the number on the webpage. The customer representative was very nice and said he would cancel the account. I just realized I was being charged for not one, but two accounts that I had been told were closed. The customer service department is the worst I have experienced, anywhere. The so called manager, [redacted] (who refused to give me her full name) tried to connect me with her supervisor, and hung up on me. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with! No one at the customer service department were downright rude! [redacted] ? told me the supervisor was [redacted], but when I finally got to her answering machine, the name is [redacted]. Don't they know the name of their boss? No one would give me any main office numbers to call, saying Ms. [redacted] was the entire ownership team. This is a bad company for any consumer to do business with and I hope that my going through the The Revdex.com will save another consumer from being cheated. Sincerely, [redacted]Desired Settlement: Refund to the original date I both joined and cancelled, total refund for the second account, which I knew nothing about, and a letter of apology for having spent time on the phone getting lied to by the worst customer services team I have ever experienced, and a second apology, in writing, from the main culprit, [redacted]). I want to help others by letting them read this story and hopefully save themselves from being taken in by these shysters.

Peoplefinders.com, like every other company, has policies and procedures that we follow. Given that members can run unlimited searches and other services for a monthly fee our Terms do not allow for any refunds. We simply allow members to cancel any tim via email, phone or their online account manager to avoid future billing. Our records show an order for a search was placed by you on 10/4/2012. You affirmatively selected to enroll in a three day trial membership. We did not receive a cancellation for your membership. You failed to contact us about the monthly membership fees for almost two years. On 6/16/2014 we received our first contact from you over the phone, twenty months after the membership had been initiated. You called multiple times within an hour and spoke to many representatives. Each representative you spoke with, including a supervisor [redacted], attempted to advise you on the charges and that the reason the membership continued to renew was we did not receive your cancellation for whatever reason. Since we do not have record of a previous cancellation we asked that you provide your record of cancellation. Both the name of the representative you spoke with back in 2012 or the automatic confirmation email you would have received upon cancellation would have been acceptable. You declined to provide this. Regardless, as a courtesy we agreed to refund the most recent membership fees of $24.95 and $24.99 and close your account per your only request on that day 6/16/2014. We informed you the remaining twenty months of membership fees are your responsibility. There are no further refunds available to you.

We have reviewed all of the calls you made to our Customer Care department and found that you may have had difficulty because several representatives felt personally disrespected in their dealings with you. In a few instances they were even forced to end the phone conversation prematurely. Nevertheless, we apologize for any inconvenience during your contact with Customer Care. We also found that the supervisor [redacted] gave you her ID number. We feel this is sufficient identifying information and giving out a last name is up to the personal judgment of the representative taking the call. The only reason you were given a last name for [redacted] is because you demanded the name of an Officer to which you may serve legal papers. It is common for a woman to have both a maiden and married name.

You are welcome to do whatever you feel is appropriate regarding the remaining membership fees but again, they are non refundable per the PeopleFinders.com Terms of Use you agreed to. In conclusion, as a courtesy we have granted refunds totaling $49.94, your account is closed and there will be no further automatic billing.

Review: The business entity (PeopleFinders.com) has been found in violation of privacy rights. The company has published my personal information on their web site without my consent. I have never been in any relationships or affiliation with the above company, and never authorized publishing my personal data on PeopleFinders.com.I contacted the company on multiple occasions to request the removal of my personal data from their web site. They do not respond to my further attempts to delete my personal information from their database.Desired Settlement: The company must remove the following information (including any other personal information they keep about me and all members of my household) with the immediate effect:[redacted]

Review: I used this service to try and find out who was calling me. When the search came up with a [redacted] as the person with an address I did not recognize either. I then called the number and it was [redacted] at ###-###-####. I called to have the $9.95 charge reversed since it was incorrect information I had paid for. I was told a reversal would not be granted since a valid name and address had come up even though it was incorrect. Thank you,[redacted]Desired Settlement: Reverse the $9.95 charge.

Because of the difficulty I was having trying to do a background check I contacted the company by phone. They walked my through the process. I stated that I wanted to do a single check and I was under the impression that for this service I would get information on previous marriages, divorces and criminal activity etc. I got nothing for my money. Then I find out that I'm being charged $144 for nothing. I'm an old guy (77). And I called for help. I got help all right. I was told basically that they didn't really promise this information. Great! Please help. I have very little income and that charge will really hurt. Thank you in advance, [redacted]Desired Settlement: I just think that I should be refunded the $144.

We have reviewed your membership usage and will issue a refund for $144.00 as a one-time courtesy. This amount will be shown on your credit card statement within five business days. Please keep in mind that charges are normally non-refundable per our terms of use which you agreed to online.

Review: I have an email that states my account with this company was closed 09/28/15. yet they continue to take the monthly fee from my checking account. I have not been able to get satisfactory resolution to this problem.Desired Settlement: I would like to be refunded the monthly amount I was charged for the months since 09/28/15.

Review: I had a lengthy conversation with a comstumer service rep regarding the service I signed up for the exact day that I received the service. In our conversation I realized that I did not want the service I signed up for and I was told he would delete my account. The gentleman reassured me my account was deleted and I would no longer be charged. Today, a month later I have been charged for two separate invoices 1. @ 24.99 and 1. @24.95.Desired Settlement: I would like to be refunded the full amount charged on my account

24.99 and 24.95

This service was stopped and deactivated a month ago by a customer service rep and shouldve never been charged on my account. Please have this corrected immediately, thank you very much!

The customer purchased a trial membership on 03/13/16. There is no record of cancelation by email, online or by phone prior to 03/30/16. No refund will be issued

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: I did make a phone call the same day of trial because I was having issues with account and was told the services didn't included what I was asking for so I asked for accounts to be closed. Not only that but my account was charged for two different items

Review: I used their on line service once as advertised for 0.95 cents. They charged me $24.95 3 days later saying I had agreed to this payment

This is a bait and switch company. They lure you in saying that they will only charge a one time fee of 0.95 to do a one time retrieval of information. Somewhere in the very fine print they say that you will be charged $24.95 per month if you do not call and cancel the service within 3 days. All other companies have a 30 day trial period, giving you time to see the amount charged on your visa, giving you time to cancel. I called my visa card company and asked them to dispute the transaction. They were very helpful, but said that this company is very dishonest with their advertising and is dependent on people not realizing that they are going to be charged the $24.95. Desired Settlement: I want a refund of $24.95 in full. I used their service only once and only agreed to pay the 0.95 cents. I would have NEVER used their service if I would have known about the $24.95 charge.

We have reviewed our files and our records show that an order for a search was conducted by [redacted] on 1/18/2013. At that time [redacted] had a choice to accept a special discounted price available with a monthly membership or the full price for the search without membership. The membership option was affirmatively selected by Mr. [redacted] on 1/18/2013. That membership provided a three day trial to try our services. Our membership service provides unlimited searches and other features for a monthly fee. This is clearly and conspicuously disclosed on the initial order selection page. Then the consumer is provided with an entire page outlining the terms of the membership which clearly and conspicuously states that after the initial trial, unless the consumer cancels the service the service will continue monthly and the card they provided will be charged until they tell us to cancel their membership to avoid future charges. The membership is mentioned no less than three times on three pages before the order is complete.

Given that members can conduct unlimited searches for a monthly membership fee our terms do not allow for any refunds and simply allow members to cancel anytime to avoid future charges. For the period of her membership Mr. [redacted] was charged each month. During that time, our customer service was available to take her cancellation at any time. He failed to contact us to cancel until an email on 8/26/2013 eight months after the membership had been activated. We had agreed and notified Mr. Platner via email we will refund one charge of $24.95 as a onetime courtesy. In conclusion, [redacted] has received credit for one months of service totaling $24.95, his account is closed and there will be no further automatic billing.

2nd paragraph correction:

For the period of his membership Mr. [redacted] was charged each month. During that time, our customer service was available to take his cancellation at any time.

Review: I purchased a one month membership to the business and I am not satisfied with the quality of the service. It was my experience that it steers you to another service and wants membership to that also. I would like to cancel my membership and I would like a full refund of around $20.00.Desired Settlement: full refund

Business

Response:

The customer emailed us for a refund. We communicated that per the Terms of Use there would be no refund. The reason being is on our website we state that the information we hold is Public Record. It is not guaranteed to be 100% accurate as it is self- reported public information. We do not guarantee the results, we simply charge a membership fee to access the public record data base.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: I do not care there sales pitch does not say what they are saying now. there website also steers people to pay for another service that is not necessarily factual either very misleading my next step would be the state attorney general complaint department...thank you Revdex.com

Customer service reps at People Finders are very well-versed on what to say about the unexpected charges...probably because they talk with so many unhappy people about the way they do their business. Terrible service, very stand-offish...telling me what "I signed up for". I didn't sign up for any monthly service after paying my $.95 one time charge. They can see that by the fact that I never made any more searches after my initial inquiry. Boo!

Review: Company claims by using their service for a onetime charge they had the right to bill a monthly subscription.

On May 30, 2013 I used People finders on line service to order information. I did read the billing information and understood I was getting charged a onetime fee of $1.95. On June 3, 2013 my credit card was charged $24.95 for a monthly subscription fee. I called the company on June 24 when I noticed the charged and they said I needed to log onto their website to cancel my subscription and that they could not refund the money already charged. I was told the web site asked me 4 times before the charge was submitted. I can honestly say this is not the case. If this was the case I would not have gone through with the transaction. On top of that I went to their web site to stop any further transaction and it says I am not set up for automatic charges. This is only a $24.95 charge but I do not think it is fair to get charged a fee for something I was not aware I was getting charged. I would almost be willing to accept the charge except for the person who I spoke with the company telling me I did authorize this. I don't know how else to explain that if I thought for a minute I was signing up for a subscription I would have never done it. I am not saying they are scamming anyone but at the same time they are getting $24.95 for having done nothing. I am sure this is the case for another people and it is not a fair business practice.Desired Settlement: I simple would like the $24.95 credited back to my credit card.

On May 28th I purchase a report for $2.95 and to test the service. The report generated was useless so I immediately logged in and cancelled as I saw this was an automatic renewal. I find it very interesting that an email confirmation was sent when I purchased the one report but no email confirmation for cancellation. Totally shady but I didn't think anything about it until I happened to check my credit card balance and noticed a pending charge from today for $29.95. I immediately logged into the account as I knew I had cancelled. My account showed "no memberships" so I just called customer service to dispute the charge. The representative was incredibly rude and said I had agreed to the terms when I had bought the 3 day trial for $0.69 - which isn't even the product and that they had been charging me monthly since then. I kindly disagreed and said I had only been charged the $2.95 until today - 7/29/15 - the charge showed up. He then yelled at me that I was wrong and there are no refunds. All sales are final. I said I wanted proof of my account activity and he said they don't do that and I had agreed to the terms. Again I disagreed and asked for a supervisor and he said there isn't anyone else and it's done. No money back. So I told him I'd be contacting Revdex.com and he said to go ahead, he didn't care. Thus I'm here now complaining and rather appalled that this is how they run this business. Clearly this is a scam from reading other reviews. It really is a shame they don't actually provide a service. I'll go copy this review to YELP. I look forward to the BS reply that as a one time courtesy I will be refunded my money...like all the other reviews.

Review: This scam company is deliberately deceiving customers and bullying them when they seek renumeration for unauthorized charges. At about 4 a.m. today, I ordered the most basic background search from this company. Instead of the $1.95 it was supposed to cost, there were three charges: one for .98, one for .50 and one for $14.98. Those three charges set off the fraud investigation response from [redacted], and I was shocked to see they had somehow maneuvered it so I was set up for a monthly recurring charge. I immediately got into the account and stopped the monthly "subscription" and wrote customer service to ask for an immediate refund.

[redacted] called me at 8 a.m. and told me I am well within my rights to dispute the charge. I tried to resolve this by calling customer service at Peoplefinders.com and was dealt with so rudely by an employee who is clearly versed in blaming the customer. They allege I signed up for the subscription and refused to refund the money. I was so careful NOT to sign up for anything, I have no idea where they slipped that in. But I did not utilize the subscription. When I asked for a supervisor to call me I was told that I'd ordered a full criminal background check, which triggered the higher charge. I specifically did NOT order a criminal record because I only needed contact details. I want to see how they did this.

This company should face a class action lawsuit. I have never seen such a nasty, duplicitous company so deliberately rip off the consumer. Look at the number of complaints you have fielded. Please help!Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund.

Business

Response:

The customer came to our self service web site on 03/30/16 and purchased a $14.98 background check membership then proceeded to run a background report. No refund will be issued.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: I saw multiple screens trying to "upcharge" me and tried to be very careful to only order the location search. I did not want or need a criminal background check. I thought I was paying $3 for the thing. I would NEVER have signed up for the $15 search OR your recurrent subscription. This is clearly intended to deceive the consumer and, because of the number of complaints against this company, it is clear they have done this to many, many people. I want to see where I authorized this and I wish to continue this action and escalate it as far as possible. This is an unscrupulous company and is not to be trusted.

Review: We were doing a search for an individual because we wanted to address and issue with my friends daughter because she didn't believe her sperm donor was actually a criminal. We pulled the report and there was nothing on him, no criminal background at all and we know for a fact he had recently gotten out of prison. This young woman had just been notified by a possible sibling and this person told my friends daughter her sperm donor fathers name. My friend was afraid the donor would try to contact her and needed to verify what his prison sentence was for as we had been told several different things. As this man had threaten to kill my friend and to kidnap and sell her daughter on the black market she was terrified. We paid for the report and when I called to see about a refund as their report did not contain anything other than an address and phone number which we already ad. When I called in the person who assisted me said their disclaimer didn't promise to provide a complete information. I paid 29.95 for this report for my friend. I would not have paid that much had we known this. I don't remember reading that in the terms and conditions. How do they get away with putting stuff like that in hte "fine print" and taking peoples money. Since this is the first time we have ever done this kind fof search we picked a sight we thought was legit. This is not good business to defraud peopleDesired Settlement: I feel that I should get a refund since I had the info they provided and did not get any of the info I was seeking. I have the info now from going to MN dept of Criminals.

I am rejecting this response because:

There was no info other than last known address and family members. There is MN criminal information that is avail able to the public if someone knows where to find it and had your company astually doen the right type of reorts then we would have received the information we were searching for. After we saw your reprot with no informaiton we then talked to an attorney who informed us where to look for this information and we were able to acheive the information we were searching for. Your claim of "up to date accurate infromation" isa lie. You do nto procive the service you say you will. We did not have money to throw away for this informaiton which your website said you woudl do. I can see if there was even jsut a partial amoutn of infomation but there wasn't. No crimal, no leins, no marriages, no nothing. It is like this person abrely existed so I would bet this is nto the only person you do not have info on that you website promises accurate and up to date info. You are not a reputiable company in my book. I hope you feel this charge that means more to me than you gets you what you want. I will make sure everyone I know knows not to trust your website

We have reviewed your report and found that it contains the individual's name, date of birth, two phone numbers, an email address, seven relatives and their detailed contact information and an entire section with detailed information on each address listed. We paid to retrieve results for Property Ownership, Death Records, FAA Airmen, FAA Aircraft, Marriage, Divorce, Bankruptcies, DEA Registrants, Nationwide Criminal and Sex Offenders. If a category states [redacted] No Records Found [redacted] this means we do not have record of publically reported information matching the criteria you entered.

I am rejecting this response because:

They advertise and say they provide information readily available well they don't becaseu there was no information on their site and I was able to go into the mn criminal database and find otu there was criminal activity. How can they advertise they provide the most upated info when they have none. I guess the 29.95 is just so they can make money without providing any info.

They are a a scam business and shoudl not be able to get away with false advertsing.
