Review: I am terribly embarrassed to say that I only just now noticed (during end-of-year tax calculations) that I have been charged $24.95 each month since 2/14/2015 by [redacted] People Finders. I suspect, but cannot confirm, that I used their service one time probably near January or February of 2015, paying using my credit card, and that the company then continued to charge me for a monthly subscription to the service that was not clearly described in the original payment process and was, therefore, technically not authorized. VERY shoddy practice and, I would think, illegal to the point that a class action suit might be appropriate. The company does not even provide an email address or "Contact Us" forum to cancel such a subscription or to appeal for a refund. At a very minimum the company should cease and desist such fraudulent practices.Desired Settlement: A refund of $300 (as of 1/28/16) along with some assurance from the company that they intend to cease and desist their fraudulent, or at least very questionable practice of committing one-time customers to continual subscriptions.

Response:

The customer signed up for the membership at the time of their initial purchase. The membership can be canceled by logging into their online account at any time, by calling customer care or emailing. The customer did call into customer care for assistance. They received 1 refund. We are issuing an additional 4 months refund to the customer. This makes their refund a total of $124.75. Per the Terms of Use previous months billing are not refundable. As a courtesy we have refunded the most recent 5 months billings.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response for this reason:Although I am grateful that the Revdex.com’s influence has helped me to get a refund of some of my money (four out of 13 months, and another month as a direct response to my complaint to the company), I believe the company is misleading customers by not making it clear that a subscription is being taken out and not just a one-time service.

Review: I used PeopleFinders website to obtain address info for 1 person. I ordered the report for 0.98. Surreptitiously and without my consent PeopleFinders SLAMMED me into "A membership" and started billing my credit card a monthly service charged of $24.95. They charged me twice for the SINGLE report (0.98 + 0.97 and then tacked on 12.48). I did not catch the charge the until the second credit card statement when they charged me again $24.95. I called them the next day to request a refund and they refused stating that I had to cancel to stop the charges. This is just a deceptive scam designed to defraud trusting customers. I will not tolerate their dishonest business practices and crawl away quietly. I shutter to think how many customers they have defrauded.Desired Settlement: The only acceptable solution for me is a complete refund of the 38.40 to fraudulently charged my credit card.

Business

Response:

The website clearly states that the product selected comes with a membership. As the Terms of use state the product is not refundable. Services were rendered. However, we will refund the most current months billing of $24.95 on 12/18/15. There will be no further billings.

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Review: This site is fraudulently deceptive by tricking people into being billed $19.95 for a so called extensive report. I was tricked into thinking it would be only $2.95 if I canceled within 3 days. I canceled within 3 days (only ordered one report) but was charged $2.95 plus $19.95 and $.50 for the report. The generic report given did not show a restraining order that I learned about later.Desired Settlement: Would like $19.95 refunded.

Business

Response:

We have reviewed your account and found that on 5/7/2015 instead of purchasing a single Background Report at $39.95 you chose to recieve a Background Report at a discounted price of $19.95. The reason this product is discounted is because it comes with a three day trial membership. If cancelled within three days you will be billed $2.95 for the trial. If the trial is allowed to renew you would be billed $29.95 for the membership. We received your cancellation online on 5/7/2015, within the three day trial period, therefore you were billed $2.95 for the trial on the fourth day. This does not negate your initial purchase of $19.95 for the Background Check Report. The charges are non-refundable per the Terms you agreed to on PeopleFinders.com.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: The wording is very misleading. It is a sham!!

Review: Hidden language about one-time use actually creating a monthly subscription. I used this service once and it automatically signed me up for a monthly subscription at a cost of $24.95 on my credit card. I used once at June, they start charge me for 24.95 since then, no email, no phone call.I did not notice the charge for six months. PeopleFinders.com uses deceptive practices and hides the fact that a one time use creates a perpetual subscription. I called company, I was told no refund for all charges which I did not use their services.Desired Settlement: This company need refund all the money, which they did not offer service.

Business

Response:

The account associated with the email address and name provided on this complaint has not had any membership fees of $24.95. One order was placed (after this complaint was made) on 3/1/2013 for a one time People Search report at $1.95. Again there will not be any renewal fees or additional charges associated with this purchase on 3/1/2013.

We were not able to find an account with the charges the customer is referring to using the e-mail address or name supplied. We are an online self-service website. We do not make outbound calls and nothing is pre-selected on the site.

Review: I'm filing this report along with contacting and filing a complaint with the California State Attorney's office. I signed up for the trial period, advertised on People Finders web site, for $14.95. I understood that if I did not cancel within seven(7) days[as read & understood at that time] that I would be charged the normal fee. Within one(1) day(3/6/15) I was charged $19.95, should have been $14.95(see above). I did not call to cancel because I was relying on my understanding of the terms of use. People Finders did not/does not send a email alerting you of the pending end of the trial period. Nor do they send a email notifying you of the additional charges. After four(4) days I was charged(3/10/15) $29.95. I did not receive a email notice. Then three days later(3/13/15) I was charged $24.99 for People Finders Rewards feature. I did not sign up for this feature much less know what it was. I had to get on People Finders site to find out what it was. Again there was no email alerting me of these additional charges. Fortunately I checked my "[redacted]" prepaid reloadable card account on 3/14/15. Who knows how many more charges People Finders would charged me for. I called People Finder's customer service. The person I talked to(I asked for their name, but couldn't understand, so I asked the representative to repeat their name, and again could not understand) said I agreed to the terms when I signed up. The representative said the terms are displayed during the sign up process. At that time I told the representative I wanted to cancel my account. I think of myself as a pretty savvy customer/shopper, so "if" I missed the terms as they were displayed, their display is not clearly evident. I believe these terms should be clearly displayed and explained on the same page as the Trial Offer and not buried in the sign up process. This appears to me as deceptive practises. As I stated at the beginning that I'm following up this complaint with filing a complaint the California State Attorney's office.Desired Settlement: One: I would like an apology for the inconvenience and borderline deceptive practises. Two: I would like People Finder's agreement to make their terms/additional charges more forthright. Three: People Finder's agreement to put these terms/additional charges on the same page as the Trial Offer, instead being buried in the sign up process. Four: In the future when People Finders charges a customer for any of their services, they should send an email notice. Fifth: I would like a refund of $59.94.

Response:

At the time of purchase you chose to receive a discounted price ($19.95) for your Background Report in turn for signing up for a 3 day trial to our Membership (attached Screenshot 1 and 2). PeopleFinders.com does not offer a Background Report for $14.95. This membership allowed you to receive an unlimited number of:•People Searches – Get the facts you need to find anyone, anywhere•Email Searches – Obtain email addresses, or learn about the owner of any address•Social Profile Searches – See updates on all of your friend’s social profiles in one spot•Marriage Searches – Find out if a man or woman has ever been married•Divorce Searches – Check the divorce status of any man or woman•Property Searches – Learn about any piece of property, including the current owner and value•Background Reports – Contains a wealth of information about most any individual in the United States. When you order this report, our system searches through billions of records and retrieves every relevant piece of data. You had the option to cancel this membership trial at any time via your account manager on the website, via email, or via phone. We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this trial. The 3 day trial has ended; therefore, you were charged the membership fee ($29.95) on the fourth day.The charge of $24.99 is for PeopleFinders Rewards program. The PeopleFinders Rewards program allows you to receive discounted prices on the many of the reports offered on our website. This extra service is presented to our customers through a full-page offer directly after checkout (attached Screenshot 3). Users may either accept or decline the offer. PeopleFinders Rewards members also have access to-* Free self-background checks every month* Free family safety alerts show registered sex offenders in your neighborhoodWe did not receive notification that you wished to cancel this within your 7 day trial period, therefore you were billed $24.99 on the eight day.Per your request over the phone on 3/14/2015 your membership was cancelled and your account is closed. There will be no further automatic billing. The charges are non-refundable per the Terms you agreed to.

Response:

Hello Jorge, The response that I sent earlier was faulted. I didn't find the screen shots until I completed my response. I viewed all three(3) screen shots and found the first two(2) acceptable. The last one #3 where the Rewards program option is offered shows no proof that I accepted or rejected the offer which I disputed in my original complaint. Therefore I'm amending my complaint by accepting the charge of $19.95 for the trial offer and $29.95 for the membership fee. I'm standing ground on the charge $24.99, for the Rewards program, as the amount of restitution. In viewing the screen shots you will see how easily it is to make the mistake of not declining. The decline option is in much smaller print and under the Complete My Order button. People Finders didn't offer a screen shot of the next step. I don't believe the next page offered a review before the membership registering process was completed. If the review, with list of the total charges, was offered before the completion of the membership registering process, it probably help avoid any mistakes by the consumer and remove the appearance of deception along with reducing the number of complaints. I apoligize for my mistake with regards to the screen shots. Cordially, [redacted]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Review: I bought a one time look up of a phone number for a friend to get their address. I was told it was a one time look up charge for $9.95 and I could get 4 free look ups for $2.95. I paid a total of like $12.90 on my credit card on April 27, 2014. They did not give me the information they promised . So I didn't use it any more . On Sunday night May 4, 2014, I was checking my bank account and I found out that PEOPLEFINDERS. COM had charged my credit card $9.95 and I had not even used it or gave them permission to charge my account any further . I tried to call them but they were closed.. So I went to the website to cancel and it didn't . It said it was canceled but when I tried to log back in my credit card information wAs still there and the account wasps not closed. They are scammers and liars!!! I want money back!!!Thank youDesired Settlement: I want my money back on my card and my account closed and my information deleted from their records .

Business

Response:

Our records do show a reverse phone report purchased at $9.95 and four reverse phone vouchers purchased at $2.95 on 4/26/2014. One voucher was used on the same day leaving three vouchers available. However, on 5/3/2014 this customer visited the site and ran a reverse phone report without being logged in. The system cannot recognize the available vouchers unless the user is login prior to running a search. This is why the system prompted for payment $9.95 for that report. The checkout process was completed charging the card $9.95.

Today, per this complaint, we have refunded the second $9.95 charge from 5/3/2014 and taken one voucher off the account. Three vouchers are still available but per this customer’s request over the phone on 5/5/2014 the account was completely closed out. In order to use the vouchers the user account must be active. We’re sorry to see you go, but you may request to have your account reactivated at any time.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:I did not log on to the site no other day other than the first time I used it on 4/26/2014. I never logged on to the site on 5/3/2014. Like most online sites I use like Amazon and others you can't purchase unless you are logged in. so how can they charge my card unless I am logged in? That last time I used the reverse service I had three vouchers left but when I logged in the night I saw my card charged again.. which was on 5/4/2014 it had 4 vouchers left.

But they did email me and said they are going to refund my $9.95 in five business days. So we will see what happens....

Review: Deliver severely inferior service and use bait and switch practices.

They promise to deliver an extensive background report on the subject you choose. The report I received did NOT include the subject's extensive criminal history. It did NOT have current work history... it was completely USELESS. They've basically set up shop and started stealing.

They also promise that if you cancel it'll only be this much... however this is NOT true.

I spoke with an agent and a supervisor who just brick walled me... and let me know that's what I get. They give what they have in their "Date bank"... they do not have a data bank, folks.Desired Settlement: $39.96

At the time of purchase you chose to receive a discounted price for the service you selected. You received a discount because you signed up for a 3 day free trial to our 3-in-1 Membership. The trial refers to the 3-in-1 Membership only. You have 3 days to cancel the trial to the 3-in-1 Membership which is $24.95 a month. Your original purchase is not affected.

We are sorry that you did not receive the results you were hoping for on your report. When you order a report, our system searches through billions of public records and collects every piece of relevant information. PeopleFinders pays for access to this data, so the charge is for us to conduct a search on your behalf, not to return a specific result. Please review the Terms of Use on PeopleFinders.com if you would like more information about refunds or other policies.

Review: I ordered a background check on an individual...the info was incorrect and outdated. I had better luck obtaining my info via the white pages...and customer service was extremely rude and no help whatsoever. Do not use this service.Desired Settlement: I want a complete refund.

Response:

The information we provided is from public record. As we state on our website this information is provided as-is. Service was rendered. Our records show the customer also used our service in 2014, the service was rendered, however they requested a refund at that time as well. Our Terms of Use state that this information is self reported public record. Per the Terms of Use that the customer agreed to during check out, this product is not refundable.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: I am a senior citizen... I sometimes forget...I am appalled by the way this site provides info...I demand a complete refund...I should have just used the white pages...

Since I have been looking for employment, I thought I should know what's on my background report because most employers will require a background/criminal history check. I thought paying 40 cents and a one time cancellation fee of $2.95 is worth it. What made me think this site is legit is because of the information listed when I pulled up my name and has my information on it. So why right? I went on to purchase the three day trial. When I start my search, it said NOTHING WAS FOUND! When I tried to reach their customer service to complaint.. they hung up on me. THIS IS A SCAMMER SITE.

Review: WAS TOLD THE INFORMATION I REQUSTED WAS .98 CENTS . ALL I GOT WAS A REQUEST FOR MORE MONEY. THEN BILLED 37 DOLLARS . FOR WHAT.???? ALSO BILLED 600 DOLLARS FOR AUTO PARTS . TOTAL SCAM.Desired Settlement: REFUND OF 37 DOLLARS .

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: I did NOT intentionally agree to pay more after 3 days!! I'm very new to ordering things online and I won t be doing anymore in the future! All the B.S. hidden print allows shady businesses like you to take advantage of people and "call" it business! I don't except the generic computer generated response as a solution to my getting ripped off! I want my $24.95 back (plain and simple)that is the only thing that will solve this problem!! I paid the original $1.95 and I don't expect that back even though I didn't get what I was promised for that amount. But, the $1.95 ONLY, is what I thought I agreed to pay. Also, when I called to speak to someone about this, I got a very RUDE woman named [redacted]. In no way did she even try to help me...she was nasty and treated me like an it!!

Review: This could also be an advertising complaint. After using service and charging me $.95 they charged me $24.95 4 days later. NOT clear that this additional charge was being made. At my age I cannot afford this!!!!!!!!Desired Settlement: Credit my credit card!!!

Response:

At the time of purchase on 7/3/2014 you had the option to select a single report at the normal price of $1.95 or a discounted price of $0.95 for signing up for a 3 day trial to our Membership. It is clearly and conspicuously stated on each page of checkout that by choosing the discounted price you are enrolling in an automatically renewing monthly membership after the three day trial has ended. Our records show you affirmatively selected the trial membership option. This membership allowed you to receive an unlimited number of:

•People Searches – Get the facts you need to find anyone, anywhere

•Email Searches – Obtain email addresses, or learn about the owner of any address

•Social Profile Searches – See updates on all of your friend’s social profiles in one spot

•Marriage Searches – Find out if a man or woman has ever been married

•Divorce Searches – Check the divorce status of any man or woman

•Property Searches – Learn about any piece of property, including the current owner and value

You had the option to cancel this membership trial at anytime via your account manager on the website, via email, or via phone.

We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this trial until a phone call to a representative on 7/9/2014, six days after the membership was initiated. The 3 day trial had already ended; therefore, you were charged the membership fee on the fourth day.

The charge of $24.95 is non-refundable per the Terms you agreed to, your account is closed and there will be no further automatic billing.

People finder is a horrible service and very misleading in their advertising. They claim that it would be $2.95 for the first 3 days, but they really charge 19.95. Then when you call and complain, they hang up. They only refer you to another website. I will make sure this is all over FACEBOOK and the Internet. They don't pass calls to any supervisors. They are a total rip off, and consumers should be aware that their service is worthless

Review: On 11/7/13 I purchased a one time look up on Peoplefinders.com for $.98, which was for a one person look up and info request. total $1.95. I was using this for geneology request. Not thinking anything about it, here it is 6/14, I was looking up another charge on my bank statement and there was a "Peoplefinders" charge of $24.95, looking back there is one every month since the initial one time purchase of $1.95. I called the customer service line to end up with a very rude young lady, which customer service isn't this company's top priority. I informed me that I had requested the monthly charges, but when I told her to look up my activity on the account, she couldn't show me where I was doing any other activity on the account. I requested my money back and told her if not, I would take the proper steps into getting my hard earned money back, and she told me to go ahead, but it wasn't going to help. She told me that before I had called that I had an email repling to the one I had sent early that morning when I had found the charges, and that it had cancelled my account and gave me a refund of the last months payment. I asked her where the rest of the money was($149.70),and she told me I would not be getting it. This company does not care about future customers or good customer service. It's all about the money they can get right now, and so what about anyone's future endeavors with them. To show you that this company isn't as big as they act. I called the first time, and couldn't hear the person, I called back and got the same woman four different times. What's the odds of that? I am willing to fight for my hard earned dollars. I don't mind paying for a service, as long as I know that I am paying for it, but hiding a charge in the middle, when a person is thinking they are getting on a charge of $1.95 is outrageous, and for this to still be happening in this time and era is nothing but a scam. If as many of complaints about this company on line doesn't have something done then the Revdex.com doesn't careDesired Settlement: Paid back for the re-occurring charges of $24.95 that I have been falsely charged for the past 7 months.

Response:

We have reviewed our files and found an order for a search was placed by you on 11/7/2013. At this time you selected a $1.95 People Search Report. Directly after this purchase you were presented with a full-page offer. This page offers a three day trial to our services. Our membership service provides unlimited searches and other features for a monthly fee. It clearly and conspicuously states that after the initial trial, unless the consumer cancels the service it will continue monthly and the card they provided will be charged until they indicate to cancel their membership to avoid future charges. The user may either choose "YES, and show my report" or "No thanks, show my report." Our records show you affirmatively selected to enroll by selecting "YES" to this offer.

Given that members have the ability conduct unlimited searches for a monthly membership fee our terms do not allow for any refunds and simply allow members to cancel anytime to avoid future charges. The amount of usage is up to the user and does not effect monthly membership renewal. For the period of your membership you were billed each month. During that time, our customer service was available to take your cancellation at any time. You failed to contact us until an email to our Customer Care department on 6/9/5014, seven months after the membership had been initiated. Per that request we closed your account and refunded the most recent membership fee of $24.95 as a courtesy. On 6/11/2014 a supervisor called out returning a voicemail from you. They agreed to grant one additional refund of $24.95. There are no further refunds available.

We apologize for any negative experience you had over the phone. The call center is staffed according to call volume therefore at certain times there are more representatives available than others. This may explain why you were directed to the same individual multiple times as the few other representatives available may have been assisting customers at that time.

Review: PEOPLEFINDERS does not have updated databases, when using backgroundcheck the data comes up with inaccurate information about marital status, legal status, business affiliations. I did a search of myself and it waswrong, I requested a refund and was denied.Desired Settlement: a credit of 49.00 dollars

Business

Response:

PeopleFinders.com takes it very seriously when an individual reports unauthorized use of their credit card to us. We are concerned because the person submitting this complaint called our Customer Care team on 4/14/2014 and stated that she did not recognize the $48.00 charge she is referring to here. She stated at that time that she had never been to the site before, had never made any purchase with us, and that she was the 'card holder.' This made sense as this person's name does not match the name on the account and, adding to the validity of her statement, we had changed the card information per the 'account holder's request over the phone on 4/1/2014 and charged the $48.00 to this new credit card. Our records show we have previously spoken with the 'account holder' multiple times regarding the non-refundable $48.00 fee. We believed, from what this person stated, that the 'account holder' had used this other person's credit card information without her consent. Yet here on this complaint the 'card holder' states that she did in fact make this purchase.

Regardless, the $48.00 membership fee has been refunded for unauthorized use and the account was completely closed out. The information has been flagged and cannot be used in our system ever again. As we advised the 'account holder' several times in regards to the information we provide, when you order a report our system searches through billions of public records and collects every piece of relevant information. We are only able to display the information provided in each record, so we cannot guarantee their accuracy. PeopleFinders pays for access to this data and to run the search on your behave, not to return a particular result.

Review: I was trying to locate an individual and subscribed to the free service listed on the internet. They were able to find the person and then told me I needed to pay $1.00 which I did. As soon as my credit card information was taken a screen popped up and said we were unable to find the information you were looking for and you will not be charged. the next day there was a $1.00 charge listed on my bank statement. I assumed it would fall off my account after the weekend. I checked my account again on Monday and not only was there a charge for $1.00 there was also a monthly charge for $19.95. I called the number listed on my bank account and spoke to a Jamie in customer service. She informed me that I would not be getting a refund that it says on every page of the website that if you don't contact them they will automatically bill you a monthly service fee for membership. I told her I did not see anything that said I would be charged if I did not contact them and I told her that it said the information I was looking for was not available and that I would not be charged. She told me I needed a screen shot to prove that it said I would not be charged. I told her I did not have a screen shot and she said she would not refund me because I did not have proof. I have contacted my bank to dispute the charge. This is a very misleading company. I would like a complaint filed against them.Desired Settlement: $20.95

Business

Response:

We are more than willing to process a refund given this situation however, unfortunately, the customer stated that the charges were already put under disputed through Master Card. It is too soon to for us to confirm if the chargeback has in fact been completed. We would need confirmation from this customer that they have dropped the dispute and have not received any conditional refunds from the card company. If the dispute has already been completed and we just have not received notice yet, they will have to follow Master Card's policies regarding that dispute.

Review: I utilized the [redacted] internet service by signing up for a month-to-month service in August 2015. I completed my searches within a couple days and returned to the website to cancel further monthly membership as required. My credit card showed the August 2015 billing of $19.95 as expected - that was paid. However, [redacted] did not cancel my further monthly subscription as requested, and has billed me $19.95 for September, October, and November, $19.95 each month. I called them ([redacted]) and asked for a discussion and reversal of the 3 extra month charges and they declined and maintained that I never canceled my membership.Desired Settlement: Refund/credit my credit card for the September, October, and November $19.95 billings (each).

Business

Response:

Our records show the customer called in on 11/23/15 to cancel the renewal of their membership. We have no record of the customer calling in or canceling their membership before that date. However, we have refunded the customer three charges of $19.95 today.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.I appreciate how the online complaint system worked and how quick it was. I also appreciate that the peoplefinders.com company addressed my complaint quickly and to my satisfaction.Thank you.[redacted]

Review: This complaint regards the removal of information from Peoplefinders database. I followed Peoplefinders online instructions to remove my info. Subsequently I found that some of the information had been removed. However, other information remained on the property records section of their site. After a week I contacted customer support by email, and was told to wait 7-10 days. I waited. Well after 7-10 days the information was still online. I called customer service, and was told by the rep that she could not find my info on their site, even tho I can see it in an ordinary google search, as well as the directly linked page on their site. (This is not a cookies or cache issue, as I tried from several different computers). I called back to see if I could speak with a different rep, but was repeatedly hung up on! Subsequent emails have gotten no response.Desired Settlement: Removal of information from their database, as stated in their policy.

Response:

We apologize for any delay. We reviewed our records and found that your Property Directory listing was successfully removed by our IT department on 10/1/2014. Visiting the URL today it returns no results.

Unfortunately, we do not have the capability to remove links on [redacted], [redacted] or any other search engine. The information may still be seeing on these sites is probably from an indexed API feed. Overtime (days, weeks, months) the link will stop appearing, however, we do not have access to remove the link from other websites. We are only able to remove your profile information from our site. We apologize we could not be of more help in this matter.

Response:

I made this complaint 6 months ago (complaint #[redacted]) and the business claimed it would resolve it, but it has not, so I am filing a complaint again. Peoplefinders.com lists my name and address on it's website under it's property records section. The company's privacy policy clearly describes an 'opt out' policy by which an individual can have their info removed. I have followed the policy to request removal of my info but it has not happened. My info wa removed from part of their site, but not the property records. It can still be found at: [redacted] . I have also had numerous documented email exchanges with customer care at the company, and spoke to rep's on the phone, and was inevitably told to just wait another 7-10 days, or a few more weeks, for the info to disappear. Six months have now past. Occasionally I was also told that it was [redacted]'s fault, or my web browsers fault (i.e. a cached file). Definitely not true! The info is still there on Peoplefinders.com. I have been given the run-around so many times now for this simple matter it is ridiculous.Simply remove my name and information from their website. Again, it can be found at: [redacted]where my first and last name are substituted into the address above.

I contacted the company directly, again, and they finally removed the listing. I am satisfied.

Review: The on-line service offering three days free trial - then linked to reports and memberships that cost between 4- and $140. Offers were buried.

I was assisting my elderly mother in searching for her college roommate and ill friend whose family members she couldn't reach. I used People finders to find them and then we notice the 3 days free trial. We clicked on that, as the top line search only provided their names and linked family members. More in depth reporting was needed to find the information so we clicked that - with the free search. The series of emails with questions popped up along the way asking if we wanted a complete report, membership etc. all - but I thought they were part of the free trial and wouldn't be charged. After hitting the key to proceed, I noticed it was processing a fee so I quickly exited out hoping to stop the ordering process, noticing my error. I immediately called the customer service number but received a recorded message stating the hours of operation which were PT. We are EST. I called the number as soon as we reached a destination which was early PT. I explained the issue to the customer service representative show told me I had ordered a report and signed up for an annual membership so I had to pay the $40 for it. My annual membership fee was refunded to my mother's credit card less $40. I used my email address but my mother's credit card. I even put her on the phone to confirm the refund (although it certainly wasn't necessary for the order!). This is very deceitful business practice. I'm a 50 year old woman, VP Marketing for a global organization and oversee on-line marketing. In this case, this is clearly taking advantage of the consumer with a free trial linked to membership lock in to solidify usage. I explained this to the customer service representative who reconfirmed I ordered something I had to pay for. I can be reached at the numbers provided or email address anytime. This type of business should be reported, as I'm doing. Respectfully, [redacted] Desired Settlement: $40 for the report - which I tried to stop. I paid the .99 cents for the 3 days free trial, that is what I agreed to.

We have reviewed your account and the products you selected online through our self-service website. You came to our website on 11/20/2013 and purchased a discounted report at $0.95. As you stated, this report was discounted because it came with a three day trial membership. The coverage of this membership is outlined through a full-page disclosure. As outlined on this page, background checks are not included in the trial membership. The cost to generate one Comprehensive Background Check is normally $49.95. The amount paid at this time ($0.95) did not cover the cost for any background checks. Following you purchase of the trial you then ran a second search on a seperate individual. Because you had already purchased a three day trial for unlimited people searching, the listing came up with the full contact information. You then proceeded to request a full background check on this listing. You were presented with the option to sign up for a full year of unlimited background checks at $144.00. You affirmitively selected this product online. On all three pages of the checkout process, the total of $144.00 is displayed before you are required to click a button that reads "Complete My Purchase" before you card is billed the total. We do not feel this process is deceptive because the customer is made aware of what is being purchased and the total amount many times. After purchasing the yearly Background Check Membership you ran two more background checks on different individuals. These were covered by your membership but they would normally cost $49.95 each. Our terms do not allow for any refunds but per your request over the phone, and as a one time courtesy, we agreed to grant a refund for the remainder of the membership ($104.00) and only charging you for one discounted background check at $39.95. The remaining charges ($39.95 and $0.95) are non-refundable because you have used the product extensively.

Final Consumer Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)

The response provides a detailed account of what occurred, as I explained, but doesn't represent the way it occurs with the design of the button and selections - and the timeframe of the whole time on the website, my mistake by pushing the buttons too quickly and inability to cancel. I'm surprised that Peoplefinders wouldn't refund the $40.00. Very poor customer service.

Final Business Response

PeopleFinders.com feels we have already addressed this complaint. Our terms normally do not allow for any refunds but we have made a one-time exception and granted a partial refund of $104.05. The remaining $39.95 is the hard cost to generate one comprehensive background check. This customer ordered three comprehensive background checks. No further refunds are available because People Finders pays for the information included in the background checks.

Review: Site does not work well at all! Searched for sex offender and did not show a criminal record on him. Seached TBI's most wanted and again NO record!

This site does not do what it claims especially with the worst people as sex offenders. Looked up known sex offenders and it had no criminal record for them! Also tried the Tennessee Bureu of investigations most wanted and NO record!

This by far is a big rip off and con used to decieve people out of money. They should be ashamed of the way they practice business!

How can they put the Revdex.com accredited symbol on their site with over 600 complaints???Desired Settlement: I seek a full refund of $48.00 for the worthless service they provided.

I would also like the Revdex.com to insist they remove their accredited logo from website as that is the main reason I trusted the site to be reputable.
