I have never submitted a review to Revdex.com before. But my 5 minute participation with this website was horrible. I used myself as a test, and their was nothing current on the report and many untruths. Thankfully they were inane like # of marriages, addresses, etc., but it is terrifying to think if it was under criminal background, or something similarly of extreme importance.

I wrote to them to cancel my 1 week trial after 5 minutes of trying the site out, strongly suggested they return my fee for the trial period, etc. While I did not expect a response on a Sunday evening, What I didn't expect was when I wrote them again explaining my recent history (hit by a car as a pedestrian, head thru windshield, major operations, permanent disabilities), id theft, etc I was directed to an oops page - not found. They certainly handled that one quickly. I have taken a major interest in this because scams are everywhere, work at home jobs, binary trading sites where the representative had been in jail, personal loan scams (I lost over $2000, and id theft to name a few. I do not want this to be about me, but a way of conveying to consumers that scams exist everywhere. I am a smart woman and fell for it out of desperation. If the Revdex.com can offer ways to help them fight these scams, please do. But I know they r always one step ahead of us and people have dreams, when given one that seems to be too good to be true, we should walk away and report it, but something switches in our brains. My apologies for expressing deep concerns. Back to PeopleFinder, do not sign up. I may be filing a complaint once I see if I am reimbursed or not. Always check with Revdex.com on everything.

Review: Billed 24.95 to account on 7-15 after after signed up for a three day trial.

Billed 24.95 to account on 7-15-2013 after after signed up for a three day trial. Website was not clear that with a three day trial I was automatically signed up for a monthly account. No confirming email indicated that I was signed up for an account and that I would be billed monthly until I actively cancelled the account. For accounts that are for a year or more or indefinite a written contract must be provided by the contractor that indicates the length of service and cancellation requirements. This cannot be presented via a website advertisement. No such contract or notification of ongoing billing was received either via email or by letter.

The FTC has also been contacted about this.Desired Settlement: refund of 24.95 to credit card charged.

Business' Initial Response

The customer has a choice to accept a special discounted price available with a monthly membership or the full price for the search without membership. If a customer does not wish to enroll in membership they may choose the full price for one report. The membership provides a three day trial to try our services. Our membership service provides unlimited searches and other features for a monthly fee. This is clearly and conspicuously disclosed on the initial order selection page. Then the consumer is provided with an entire page outlining the terms of the membership which clearly and conspicuously states that after the initial trial, unless the consumer cancels the service the service will continue monthly and the card they provided will be charged until they tell us to cancel their membership to avoid future charges. The membership is mentioned no less than three times on three pages before the order is complete.

Given that members can conduct unlimited searches for a monthly membership fee our terms do not allow for any refunds and simply allow members to cancel anytime to avoid future charges. For the period of the membership the customer will be charged each month. During that time, our customer service is available to take the cancellation at any time. Our records show on 8/9/2013 we received a phone call from the customer requesting to close the account. The account was closed per this request and there will be no further automatic billing. The charges are non-refundable per the terms agreed to on 7/9/2013.

Review: This company automatically signed me up for reoccurring payments. It's is difficult to cancel the membership. It's a fraud.Desired Settlement: Refund my $29.95 and apologize.

When we pull up the account using the email address provided, we only find one charge for a People Search in the amount of $2.95 that posted on 11/04/15. Did the customer create another account with a different email address?

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:yes I used the account under [redacted]

Business

Response:

Thank you, we did find the account and reviewed the information . The customer signed up for a Background Report Trial Membership. They logged into their account and canceled the renewal of the membership on 10/17/15. There will be no further billings. As the Terms of use state, this product is not refundable. It is not hard to cancel, as the customer did so by logging into their account and canceling any renewals. They were billed because they did to so after the 3 day trial period.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:this company is a scam. You must check there terms and conditions to get there $1 report or whatever it is, then a month later u get a bill from them. If you go on the website it tells u to call to cancel. If you call to cancel it tells u to go on their website. The fact they fight this so hard shows how many people they have scammed. They don't wanna refund the money bc they know they owe so many people so much money. Unfair, unscrupulous business practices. When I called to cancel the representative told me she should charge me 49.95, that I should be happy I got a good deal and hung up on me.

Review: Unauthorized personal information available on PeopleFinders.com website.Desired Settlement: All personal information regarding [redacted] should be removed from PeopleFinders.com website.

We will opt out the information from the website. But, when we type in that name that are several matches. Please provide us with the age and address or addresses to be removed.

Review: I used this website once in July 2015 to look for a previous landlord's phone number. They charged me $.95. I thought that was the end of it. I have a chronic eye disease that has caused me problems and required three eye surgeries in the past year. I have not been reviewing credit card statements as closely as I should have. This month Oct. I noticed two charges from this company. One for $24.95 and one for $24.99. I called the number given on my bill: [redacted] several times and disputed that I had ever signed up for this service. They said as many others have noted in their complaints that I signed up because I didn't cancel my membership after three days. Then they said the second charge was because I signed up for a Premium service with their website. These are both unbelievably false claims. I am not stupid and I am not looking for anyone but this one man for dates for a visa application. I think the number of complaints you have received about this business shows what a scam it is and what unfair and unlawful practices they use to get money from people. I filed a complaint with the credit card company but they are familiar with these thieves and they said they doubted I would ever got anything back because no one else they filed for ever did. I am adding my complaint to the pile. Please investigate and close down these people. They are operating an illegal scam.Desired Settlement: I want all the money back they have charged to my account. This comes to $199.76. I agree to pay for the $.95 first time charge but no more. I want them shut down and prosecuted for stealing and fraud from hundreds of customers who have also been victimized by them. I am considering suing them for this and damages or taking them to small claims court, but really they need to be shut down and taken off the internet. Look at the 447 other complaints. They had no vision problems.

Response:

At the time of purchase you chose to receive a discounted price of $0.95 for signing up for a 3 day trial to our Membership. You had the option to cancel this membership trial at anytime via your account manager on the website, via email, or via phone. We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this trial. The 3 day trial has ended; therefore, you were charged the membership fee of $24.95 on the fourth day, and for every month thereafter. The charge of $24.99 is for PeopleFinders Rewards program. This allows you to get discounts on the different reports offered on our website. We did not receive notification that you wished to cancel this within your 7 day trial period, therefore you were billed $24.99. You stated that you have already contacted your bank or Credit Card Company and filed a dispute. Often, due to the dispute, you are given a conditional refund by your bank; therefore we cannot offer you a refund. Please allow time for your financial institution to review the charges for validity. Usually this process will take a few billing cycles and they will notify you of the outcome via mail. You will now need to follow their policies and procedures regarding these charges.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:No where on anything I received from your business did it inform me that if I didn't cancel in three days or one week that I would be charged for months of a service I never wanted to use again. This is false and deceptive marketing where you do not show this information in a place or a way that the person receiving the email or using the service knows that these charges are going to be made or continued. There are already 447 other complaints about this at the Revdex.com serving your area so I do not feel that I am being unreasonable in making this request for a refund. I repeat. This is a scam. If you do not refund my money I am going to the Federal Trade Commission ad I am going to begin legal action against you and try to shut your worthless business down. My bank has said to me that they will not refund anything unless you refund them first so don't lie to me again and tell me to wait to see what they say. REFUND MY MONEY NOW!!!

Review: I had used the search site, PeopleFinders.com, in order to access the marriage and divorce certificates/decrees for my grandmother, who is in a nursing home. The site stated that they are able to provide one with marriage and divorce records, arrest records, etc on their main page, yet, it is after one receives the report and is able to access their legal disclosure does one realize that it's not 100%. The items that they provided me with I already knew, and to have specific years and states listed on one's database is not acceptable, when it clearly states on their main page that the trial offer is $2.95 yet I was charged $19.95, and that the main page states all public records, yet they have a limited database. When I asked the representative, [redacted] about the practice, he continued to overtalk me and not let me get a word in edgewise, when I asked to speak to a manager or supervisor, he stated that there were none in the building. So, I asked how can one have customer service reps with no supervision, and I stated to let me talk to one in charge of the building, and his reply was that no one was in charge. So, I questioned the validity of that statement, and he mentioned, I don't know why you're trying to quote some state statute, but it doesn't work like that here. Had they wrote on their main advertising page which states are readily available, I never would had requested a report from this site. I think that their practices are devious and overaggressive for what the average consumer is purchasing. If they claim to be able to report and access public records, then they should be able to give a consumer exactly what they are asking for. I demand a full refund of all fees charged to my account, and/or provide me with the documentation for which I so aptly paid for. I find very ironic when I clicked to cancel this membership, there was a banner that stated "save 60% today & forever. Only !14.95/month". Now, talk about overcharging customers--Illegal tactics.Desired Settlement: If this company is unable to provide with the three marriage and divorce records (documents that I paid for) for my grandmother, [redacted] - 88 years old who resides in Alabama, then I hereby request a full refund of all fees and charges to be placed back to the credit card on file within a within a thirty day timeframe.

We do offer a Public Records Report at $2.95 which does include a marriage and divorce search. On this page, prior to purchase, customers are presented with the marriage and divorce coverage. Unfortunately, we do not have access to information about marriages and divorces in every state. Several states do not post that information online, so our system is unable to retrieve those records. We are including the marriage and divorce coverage below for your convenience. Marriage Searches:Results may include bride and groom's name, bride and groom's age at time of marriage, county and/or state, and filing number. California (1960-1985) Colorado (1975-2004) Connecticut (1966-2002) Florida (1970-1999) Iowa (1835-1926) Illinois (1793-1920) Kentucky (1973-1999) Maine (1892-1996) Minnesota (1976-2003) Nevada (1968-2000) Ohio (1970-2004) Texas (1968-1998) Utah (1800-1999)Divorce Searches:Results may include petitioner, respondent, file number, marriage date, and county and/or state of filing. Colorado (1975-2000)Florida (1970-1999)Minnesota (1970-2003)Nevada (1968-2000)Texas (1968-1998) Where we get our information from and coverage is also described in our Terms of Use, which is displayed prior to purchase. All customers are required to check a box stating that they have read and agree to this before completing a purchase. The product this customer ordered was not a Public Record Report for $2.95 but a full Comprehensive Background Report at a discounted price of $19.95. The report was discounted (from $29.95) because it comes with a three day trial to our membership. As stated you had the option to cancel this membership trial at anytime via your account manager on the website, via email, or via phone. We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this trial. The 3 day trial has ended; therefore, you were charged the membership fee of $29.95 on the fourth day. Per this request, and as a one-time courtesy, we will refund the membership fee of $29.95. When a customer orders a report, our system searches through billions of public records and collects every piece of relevant information. PeopleFinders pays for access to this data, so the charge is for us to conduct a search on your behalf, not to return a specific result. We are unable to provide a refund. Please review the Terms of Use on PeopleFinders.com if you would like more information about refunds or other policies. In conclusion, we will refund one membership fee of $29.95, they are responsible for the Background Report at $19.95, their account is closed and there will be no further automatic billing.

Review: I cancelled their services more than a month ago when u notices they have charged me 29.95 for a service that I didn't use but instead I got charged again 29.95 then I called them again they told me they didn't have any previous calls and there were not going to reinvent me anything the person even hung up on me. I decided to check my bank account again and for my surprise they charged me again 29.95. I need help I'm a single mother and grandmother struggling with my financial situation and to have people like peolplefinder.com ripping off people like me struggling is not right someone need to put a stop to this.Desired Settlement: I would like to get reembers for the 3 * 29.95 charge to my account and for them to not charge my account again

Please note that the account you are referring to here is with PeopleFinders.com and not PeopleFinder.com. At the time of purchase on 7/1/2015 you chose to receive a discounted price for your report in turn for signing up for a three day trial to our services. This membership allowed you to receive an unlimited number of searches and other services for a monthly fee. You had the option to cancel this membership trial at anytime via your account manager on the website, via email or via phone. We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this trial. The 3 day trial had ended; therefore, you were charged the membership fee on the fourth day and for every month thereafter. We, PeopleFinders.com, received your initial cancellation request over the phone on 9/28/2015 and your account was closed. You have not and will not be billed any further after that date. We have no record of a previous contact from you online, via email or over the phone. We have already asked that you provide any previous cancellation confirmation you have with our company. Feel free to provide that information through this Revdex.com complaint as well. As our service grants access to unlimited searches and other services for a monthly fee, our terms do not allow for refunds and simply allow users to cancel at anytime to avoid future billing.

Review: My name and home address are visible through Peoplefinders (under property records) when doing a [redacted] search on my name and city. I am a witness in a criminal trial and am concerned about my family's safety. I have called several times over the last 3 weeks and talked to several people in customer service such as [redacted] and [redacted]. They assure me that my information will be removed, but it never is. Since they have not been able to get this resolved, I am filing this complaint with the Revdex.com.Desired Settlement: I want my information removed from the "Property Records" search function through peoplefinders, and made invisible to search engines such as [redacted].

Review: I am being billed a monthly charge for a service I did not sign up for. I have spoken to a customer service representative. She has cancelled this charge going forward but will not credit my account for two month's charges already on my credit card bill. I did not receive a notice, receipt or email message telling me I had signed up or was being billed a monthly service fee. I only found about the charge on my credit card statement.I find this practice to be fraudulent and will dispute these charges in every way possible.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund for two months charges of $24.95 each or a total of $49.90.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:The terms of this offer were not adequately explained. No email was sent explaining that I had accepted this plan. No receipt was sent for this plan (although I did receive a receipt for the one search I performed). I did not make any other searches after the initial one nor did I use any of the benefits outlined.I don't think that the terms of this plan are clearly stated or followed up on. Rather it is hidden, unclear when the initial search is performed. PeopleFinders does not send any monthly receipts or statements. I only found out about these charges when I opened my credit card statement. By then I had been charged not once but twice for a total amount of $49.99. I have not used any of these services at any time before or since and believe I am entitled to a full refund.PeopleFinders should look carefully at the way this program is presented and implemented to avoid fraudulent use of the credit card number I provided to pay for the initial search I believe this plan is deliberately confusing and obscure to lure consumers to sign up without their knowledge. This way PeopleFinders can collect at least the first two months of fees before the consumer is the wiser. This iis an instance of computer fraud and scam schemes.

Review: This cooperation, (Peoplefinders), has some of my Government Records, namely a Marriage Certificate, which it is offering for "Sale" to other people on the Internet, said Certificate contains my Social Security number and other personal identification, which could lead to easy "Identity Theft". Peoplefinders is "apparently" refusing to remove my information from their website, although their own protocols posted to their website say "you can have your information removed if you choose to", which I have done twice, and they still have the information when I run a search on my name, and are still offering my "information/i.e. Social Security number" up for sale to other people wishing to purchase it. This is basically Identity theft or selling my identity. I have contacted them four times: twice through their website, twice via telephone (they picked up the call once and refused to cooperate, the second time it went straight to voicemail), once via their email addresses, and I have not seen a result, response, or any positive effect at all. I have not done business with them, and am not doing business with them, they simply have my marriage certificate, and refuse to pull the posting of my personal identity information which is in the certificate. They made up an argument over the phone, simply not acknowledging my request to have this vital record removed from their site, citing an argument having nothing to do with my request for them to remove my vital records from their system or from trying to sell my marriage certificate which contains my social security number. I am not sure how they obtained my Marriage Certificate?Desired Settlement: I want Peoplefinders Corp. to immediately remove "My Marriage Certificate (which contains my Social Security number)and my Identity" from any of their systems, or their subsidiaries systems, as this constitutes Identity Theft. I will also take this up with the California State Government(Agencies), so as to set precedence. I want Peoplefinders to immediately stop trying to sell anything related to my identity or social security number in my marriage certificate, which they show on the web.

Response:

PeopleFinders has access to billions of public records, including the most recent and 40-years worth of historical data. This allows us to provide information about most every person or business in the United States. Public records are created from a variety of sources, including phone directories, property records, birth and death records, magazine subscriptions and voter registration cards. We do not provide legal documents such as marriage certificates or divorce decrees. We only provide marriage records. Marriage records simply list the date, city and state the marriage took place. Additionally, we do not have access to information about marriages and divorces in every state. Several states do not post that information online, so our system is unable to retrieve those records. Because social security numbers are not public information, we do not provide them. Nor do we advertise that we can provide them in any way. Our records show we already have an opt out on file regarding your listing. If you are still seeing information you would like removed, please provide the URL where it appears. Please be aware that anytime you publicly report your information to companies and organizations, this information may be updated in public record databases and therefore will return results when doing a search for public record files. If you see your name appear on our site you will need to notify us so we can remove it.

Response:

Thank you for providing the additional information. We have submitted this additional listing for removal. Please allow 24-48 hours for this to reflect online. We do not have the capability to remove links on [redacted], [redacted] or any other search engine. The information will still be seeing on these sites is from an API feed. Overtime (days, weeks, months) the link will stop appearing, however, we do not have access to remove the link from other websites. We are only able to remove your profile information from our site. We apologize we could not be of more help in this matter. We have suppressed your information again as of today; however, anytime you publicly report your information to companies and organizations, this information may be updated in public record databases and therefore will return results when doing a search for public record files. If you see your name appear on our site you will need to notify us directly so we can remove it.

Dear [redacted],

We do have the right to respond and dispute your chargeback request which we did on 10/15/2013. We provided Visa with your agreement to our terms of use stating you understand and agree to our policies. Visa then reversed the chargeback and ruled in our favor on 10/30/2013.

Each time I receive an e-mail stating that $19.95 has been refunded* but each month the same bill for PeopleFinders.*"We closed your PeopleFinders.com account, per your request. They had a choice to accept a special discounted price available with a monthly membership or the full price for the search without membership. If a customer does not wish to enroll in membership they may choose the full price for one report. The membership provides a three day trial to try our services. Our membership service provides unlimited searches and other features for a monthly fee. This is clearly disclosed on the initial order selection page. On the following checkout page it conspicuously states that after the initial trial, unless the consumer cancels the service the service will continue monthly and the card they provided will be charged until they tell us to cancel their membership to avoid future charges. The membership is mentioned no less than three times on three pages before the order is complete. We have reviewed our files and found that an order for a search was conducted on 7/7/2013 by this customer. Our records show the discounted price with monthly membership was affirmatively chosen by this customer on 7/7/2013.

Given that members can conduct unlimited searches for a monthly membership fee our terms do not allow for any refunds and simply allow members to cancel anytime to avoid future charges. For the period of the membership the customer was charged each month. During that time, our customer service is available to take the cancellation at any time via the online account manager, email or over the phone. On 3/11/2014 we received a cancellation request via the online account manager. This is the first time we have record of any changes requested by this user. Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Sincerely,

Review: To whom it may concern,

On March 15, 2014 I went to People Finders website to attempt to find the phone numbers and addresses of two old friends. I was charged a total of $3.90 which was clearly the amount that I agreed upon. Never again did I attempt to make use of this website.

At no time, then or since, did I EVER authorize or request any membership with People Finders. On March 23, 2014 a charge of $24.99 appeared on my monthly statement under the description of PFREWARD. I certainly did not connect this description as being related in any way to People Finders' transactions of March 15 until several months later. I assumed this was something that my son had bought.

Only recently when I started going back and looking more closely at these statements did I discover that I have been automatically billed $24.99 for (8) months (March to November) totalling $199.92! I called the phone number on my statement only to find out that it was People Finders! So I called People Finders only to be told that I MUST HAVE agreed on-line to a membership and automatic billing. I said that I NEVER agreed to a membership, let alone one that charges $24.99 a month for this service.

The Revdex.com of Sacramento, CA revoked People Finders' accreditation on October 13, 2014 due to failure to adhere to Revdex.com standards. Specifically, section 8A of the Revdex.com Standards: Avoid involvement, by the business or its principles, in activities that reflect unfavorably on, or otherwise adversely affect the public image of Revdex.com or its accredited businesses.Desired Settlement: I feel that I have been totally ripped-off and that this is a scam. I demand the full amount of $199.92 that People Finders has automatically taken from my USAA credit card over the last eight months WITHOUT my consent.I am a veteran and have put my faith in the services of USAA. For this reason I am appalled that USAA continues to allow such companies to transact business with USAA.Thank you for your consideration.[redacted]CC: People FindersRevdex.com of Sacramento CA

Review: On 24 June 2013, I requested information on my husband [redacted] through Peoplfinders.com,

I requested through Peoplefinders.com on my husband [redacted] which I have been trying to track down an address, Phone number for over 10yrs, for a divorce, I though by using peoplefinder.com I would finally have atleast some information for my lawyers. Peoplfinders.com states that the information would be sent to the email address that I have applied within 4-24 hrs. I checked back all I received was the confirmation of my purchase for the information, on their website you can log in to view your report when I tried to log in to the website it keep stating that my password was incorrect. I wrote down my password so I knew is should not have been incorrect. after a number of trys I request my password. and it was verified by peoplefinders.com that I was entering the correct log in name and password but it continue to state that my password was incorrect. I also tried to contact there customer service and the number seems to continue be busy. there is not other number listed. I send an email to them no response. Desired Settlement: I only paid $3.00 for the information due to only needing limited information but what about the people whom is pay the requested $39.95 how do not receive the information that people.com promise to provide they are stealing from people and if the Revdex.com allows this to happen then the Revdex.com is not better then Peoplefinders.com

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!! I called to cancel my membership (which I NEVER intended to keep but my bad for not cancelling within 3 days) on the day it renewed for the month. The membership is paid for the coming month and I called on the day it renewed and they refused to refund my account.

BAD, BAD, BUSINESS!!!

Review: I did not contract for a monthly service. Only to find a person. ONE PERSON! I was charged for service that I did not want. I want a refund.

One day in May I needed to find an old friend [redacted] I looked on line for him and could not find him. I saw a website "peoplefinders.com" The said on their web site they could find anybody for a small fee. This fee was less that $3.00. So I purchased the $3.00 service. They found my friend for me. Later on 06/03/2013 My Debit Card ending in 5727 was charge $24.95. If this charge was to be charged it was not made clear in the online trans action and I would have not approved it. I have not used the service nor do I ever intend to use this service. I have canceled this automatic account and want a refund of $21.95 for the over billing. I have tried to contact peoplefinders.com to resolve this issue but can not. I can only get the chance to cancel the service.Desired Settlement: A refund of $21.95

Consumer's Final Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)

It was not clear on your FREE offer that I would be billed monthly. I feel tricked into paying the $24.95 for getting one phone number. Therefore I am requesting a refund less #3.00 for you service. Check your records and you will find I only used your service for one phone number. Furthermore, your offices do not take phone calls that are not automated answers, so there is no one to speak to about this matter. Please forward a refund of $21.95 to my debit card.

Business' Final Response

For the period of her membership the customer will be charged each month. During that time, our customer service is available to take the cancellation at any time via phone, email or via the online account manager. Our website requires payment for information and does not state that it is free anywhere on the site.

Review: I ordered a search for .95 cents. It didn't even have the information that I wanted. All of a sudden I see billing for $24.95 per month. I have 2 months of billing that I want removed. I didn't want this service and never used this service except for the one search and that didn't have the info I wanted.Desired Settlement: Please credit my account for the 2 months billing $24.95/month
