Peoplefinders.com Reviews (932)

At the time of purchase on 3/22/2015 you chose to receive a discounted price for signing up for a 3 day trial to our Membership. You had the option to cancel this membership trial at anytime via your account manager on the website, via email, or via phone. We did not receive any notification that...

you wished to cancel this trial. The 3 day trial had ended; therefore, you were charged the membership fee on the fourth day, and for every month thereafter. Our records show you successfully closed your account online on 4/27/2015, two renewals cycles after the membership was initiated. Per the online request, and as a onetime courtesy, we granted one refund for the most current month of membership (April). Please allow 2-5 business days for the refund to process back into your credit or debit card. We then received our first phone call to a representative later that day (4/27/2015) and we went over your membership and cancelation dates. You are not eligible for any additional courtesy refunds. Your account is closed, there will be no further automatic billing and we have issued one refund of $24.95 as a courtesy. The remaining charges you are responsible for are the initial trial cost of $0.95 and the March membership fee of $24.95.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. Thanks!

Our records do not show that the customer canceled their membership. The customer had 2 different memberships active on their account. Per the Terms of Use the memberships are not refundable. As a one time courtesy we are refunding the 2 most recent months billings. The customer is refunded $99.88,...

Per the terms of use no further refunds are issued for past months service.

I am rejecting this response because:I purchased a $1.95 people search report.  As I continued to complete my purchase, you assert that I accepted your offer for a three day trial membership.  The evidence you provided was a screenshot of your businesses webpage, that appears to indicate that users are forced to decline this "offer" in order to access their already purchased record.  I see no other evidence that I selected this offer.I received one receipt, via email, from your business dated July 24, 2014.  Please find attached.  I received no emails regarding a "three day trial membership" nor emails detailing monthly billing; I was billed for over a period of 6 months and received no receipts or further emails from your business until I contacted your business on 1/9/2015.  It is my contention that your business attempts to deceive people into accepting your "offer" of automatic billing.  I further contend that your business does not provide further documentation in the attempt to conceal this deceptive billing. As you stated in your reply to my original complaint, your business has returned approximately $99.80, of the total $149.60  billed.  It is my belief that a business does not return money earned in good faith.  It is my belief that your business has a policy of automatically billing customers without authorization and returning portions of moneys billed upon receipt of complaints.  Nevertheless, I see no evidence, either a real or electronic signature, that I agreed to your business's offer.  I demand all moneys automatically billed by your company, the remaining $49.80, to be returned.  I agree that I authorized a single purchase of $1.95.

Since the business has refunded my money,as they agreed to,I would like to drop complaint #[redacted].

We were unable to locate the charge you are referring to associated with the email or name provided. The account associated with this email has not had activity since 2009. Please send us the e-mail you used to create your other account at PeopleFinders.com.

We have reviewed our files and our records show that an order for a search was conducted by [redacted] on 12/17/2014 at 9:37am on PeopleFinders.com. Then, at 10:27am the same subject was searched on [redacted], a separate but sister website of PeopleFinders.com. At that time, on both...

websites, [redacted] had a choice to accept a special discounted price available with a monthly membership ($0.95) or the full price for the search without membership ($1.95). The membership option was affirmatively selected by [redacted] on 12/17/2014, on both websites through entirely separate checkout and registration processes. That membership provided a three day trial to try our services. Our membership service provides unlimited searches and other features for a monthly fee. This is clearly and conspicuously disclosed on the initial order selection page. The consumer is provided with an entire section outlining the terms of the membership which clearly and conspicuously states that after the initial trial, unless the consumer cancels the service the service will continue monthly and the card they provided will be charged until they indicate to cancel their membership to avoid future charges. The membership is mentioned no less than three times on two pages before the order is complete. If their intention was to run only one search, then they had in fact selected the wrong product.Given that members can conduct unlimited searches for a monthly membership fee our terms do not allow for any refunds and simply allow members to cancel anytime to avoid future charges. For the period of their membership [redacted] was charged each month. During that time, our customer service was available to take their cancellation at any time. They failed to contact us to cancel until a phone call to a representative two months after the membership had been activated. Per their request on 2/2/2015 we agreed to refund the January membership fees of $24.95 as a courtesy. The remaining charges [redacted] is responsible for are the initial cost of $0.95 for the discounted reports plus trial memberships and the December membership fees ($24.95 each). In conclusion, [redacted] has received credit for one month of service for both websites totaling $49.90 as a courtesy, the account is closed and there will be no further automatic billing.

Feel free to review the $19.95 product on PeopleFinders.com for the Terms you agreed to during checkout. As explained previously the discounted price for the report plus trial membership is $19.95. If the trial, which comes with the $19.95 report, is not cancelled within three days the membership fee of $29.95 will be charged on the fourth day and will continue monthly until the service is cancelled. Overdraft fees are something we do not control and do not provide reimbursement for.Our records show you have not been billed additionally for the searches you ran on this account. We have record of you logging in and accessing our database using many different criteria from 8/10/14 to as recently as 10/23/14. Again, there are no further refunds available per the Terms you agreed to.

The customer purchased a membership on our website and would have had to approve that charge before completing the transaction online. No refund will be issued.

Thank you for providing the link. However, the link brings up several matches for different people with that name. Which one do you want removed?

I am rejecting this response because: their website is confusing and designed to trick people into signing up.

An email is sent to customers notifying them of the membership renewal each month. One can cancel the membership at any time online by logging into their account and canceling their membership. Per the Terms of Use previous months billings are not refundable. However, we will refund the most current...

billing of $24.95. There will be no further renewals.

We have reviewed your account and found that directly after your purchase of $2.95 for a Public Records Report, a full-page offer was displayed for a three day trial to our Membership. Our records show "Yes, sign me up" was affirmatively selected instead of declining the offer directly below....

We did not receive cancellation within the three day trial. Therefore, $24.95 was billed on the fourth day. Per this complaint, and as a onetime courtesy, we will refund the membership fee. Please allow three to five business days for this to reflect on your account.

We are sorry, but we were unable to complete your 4 attempted orders at PeopleFinders.com on 10/8/2015. It appears that you did not provide the correct three-digit code from the back of your credit card, so the transaction failed. You may see a pending charge on your credit card statement, but...

it will be removed within ten business days.

We have issued three refunds to the customer. The membership was signed up for online at our self service website and not canceled until 04/26/16. The account has already been closed so they can be no further charges.

At the time of purchase we state that the Membership is $24.95 a month, however if you cancel within the 3 day trial period you are only billed $2.95 for it at the time of cancellation. That charge is valid. As a one time courtesy we will refund the $7.95 for the report the customer was unhappy...

with.

Revdex.com:I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. I have accepted the business response only because it is accurate technically, even though my initial complaint is also valid.  That is, there is indeed a very hard-to-find "disclaimer" on the pages described in the company's response to us that says this:"Includes UNLIMITED contact info, reverse phone lookups, & more. If canceled within 3 days, pay only $2.95 for trial. After the trial, billed $24.95/month."It is the 3rd sentence AND ONLY the 3rd sentence that highlights the reason for my complaint and, I suspect from reading all of the company's other and many complaints, the common customer's confusion.  The customer must take the proactive step to CANCEL or monthly charges of $24.95 continue to be charged regardless of whether or not the customer continues to use the service.  In fact, and this is the most telling aspect of the company's scam, I was billed continually for 13 months when I actually only used the service exactly ONE TIME, during the initial 3-day trial period.    I continue to  believe the company is a less-than-honorable enterprise preying on the very common oversight of customers that they help to encourage by their misleading and virtually disguised wording. But since, technically, I missed the operative fine print, I feel honor-bound to accept their partial refund graciously and terminate any further action in this case. Thanks for your help.

I am rejecting this response because:
Revdex.com, please go onto their site and try it yourself to experience it.  I still reject their communications as what peoplefinders is saying is deceptive and untrue.  I canceled my subscription but did not turn off auto renew.  They said cancel in 3 days.  Their site is misleading at best.  You need to try it yourself to understand it and understand that what they are saying and how it is presented on their website is not good business and deceptive.
Also, please note, I am now receiving spam at the email website that I gave peoplefinders when I registered with them that I have never received before.  Can you please have peoplefinders respond to this, why this is happening and how to turn it off?
Thank you.

Given that we do not find the charges in our database with the information provided and she states she sees charges from People Finder, we feel this complaint was made to the wrong company. We recommend they review their billing statement to find the company that they have done business with. Charges from our company will be labeled "PeopleFinders.com 8007188997" Again, we have no affiliation with People Finder.

It clearly stats on the purchase page the cost of the trial membership and that there will be a cancelation fee. No refund will be issued.
