Review: PeopleFinders' site says "free phone lookup" but they don't provide any free information other than the carrier name if it's a cellphone number; we have to buy the report to get the name of the owner of the phone number and any other information. I think this is gross misrepresentation of the service they're advertising since the useful information isn't free.Desired Settlement: Make PeopleFinders remove the "free" description of their service from their online ads, and indicate the actual fees involved to obtain the desired information (identification of owner of phone number).

Business

Response:

Our web site is a pay site. It does not state anywhere on the website that are services are free.

Review: I closed my account with PeopleFinders on January 6, 2014. I have a copy of their email reply. However, they did not remove my credit card from their data base and I have been charged multiple times after the account has been closed. I've had to dispute my credit card charge with my bank on each occasion. The most recent charge is 5/18/2016. This company has treated my past loyalty to their services disgracefully by fraudulently charging me.Desired Settlement: I see that this company is not with the Revdex.com.

Business

Response:

We do no have record that the customers account was requested to be closed. The $23.40 charge is for a yearly membership. Please let us know if the customer would like the account closed and/or the yearly membership stopped,

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: I attached my original email response from PeopleFinders when they received my request to close my account. I used their account to locate some relatives. I no longer need this account - I am not using their service and do NOT want to be billed for services I do NOT use or want or need.

Business

Response:

We have issued a refund for $23.40 and closed the customers account.

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

I joined a trial for peoplefinders.com knowing that I was only going to use it once. I got charged, as expected the one time fee of $24.99, but when I viewed my bank account I noticed they charged me an additional $24.99 for a membership fee. So, I went online, as directed, and cancelled the membership. A month later they charged me another $24.99. I called to dispute it and the woman couldn't even find my name or email on record. So, she asked for personal info like my credit card, etc. I told her I wasn't comfortable giving that info out and she refused to help me. I had to call my bank and close my account and get issued new bank cards because of this mess. Not happy!!!

First off, their information is very inaccurate and shows outdated if any information at all. They basically charge you $9.99 to find out 5 year old mailing addresses and out of date information and then have the audacity to not give refunds. This place is a complete scam and hope they are shut down.

Review: I searched TWO numbers on this website on 2/13, I was charged $.48, $.95 and $3.00. Then I started getting billed 24.95 a month since 2/17/2016 that I didn't want, don't want and can't cancel. I called the company at 800-718-8997 and they wouldn't credit and transferred me to a supervisor voicemail. On the website it gives you directions on how to cancel and it doesn't work. I have screen shots of the instructions and where to find the link and it isn't there. This is in a word document if you need.Desired Settlement: I want credit for the 3 months of charges of 24.95 for a total of $74.85.

Business

Response:

We issued a courtesy refund on 06/15/16 for $24.95. The cancelation was not received until 06/15/16. No further refunds will be issued.

Review: I was tricked into a membership that I cancelled the same day. This company claims that I did not cancel the same day I only stopped the monthly billing. I was charged three times. The charges were $12.48,$3.00,and .95 I asked why I was charged three times and the company could not give me an answer.Desired Settlement: Refund my money

Business

Response:

The customer received the reverse phone search that was billed at $3.00 and $.95. The customer also signed up for a basic membership online for $14.98 on 05/19/16. Which was canceled by phone on 05/21/16. The customer is not due a refund since he received the information and signed up online.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: this company is ripping off consumers. The computer forces you to obtain the membership you have no choice. Also they don't tell you that you have to call them to cancel the scam the same day. You think you are cancelling g when you click on the cancel membership but they know most people will not call because they think by clicking on the button the membership has been cancelled. Put these ss out of business.

Review: The company has recurring billing, but I called to cancel, and should not have been billed ($29.95) again in May. The billed me again. They claim they have no record of my call. That's THEIR mistake.

I called them back and the phone rang twice and stopped - they hung up without answering.Desired Settlement: Remove charge, and post public complaint that they wouldn't refund

Business

Response:

Please provide the email address that account was opened under to assist us in locating this account.

Review: Signed up for a 3 trial membership after reviewing Peoplefinders Terms Of Use Last Updated: January 12, 2015. When I went to cancel my membership was advised of a $2.95 cancellation fee and I was advised of this fee. I was not advised of this fee before opening the account.Desired Settlement: I would like the $2.95 refunded to my credit card and $100 for the efforts required to obtain the refund.

Business

Response:

It clearly states on the purchase page that the trial is .95 cents and $2.95 for the cancelation fee. No refund will be issued. Please refer Mr. [redacted] to go back to the website to review our fees.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:I did not see such a notice nor read of one in the "terms of use". I did see a notice AFTER my purchase in a confirmation email from the business. Have revisited the site and do not find any mention of a cancellation fee at [redacted]

Business

Response:

The PDF provided refers to another product available on the website. The customer was require to check the box acknowledging the Terms of Use on the checkout page.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:perhaps now there is a disclaimer or the URL has been updated. I read the terms and no mention of a cancellation fee was provided.

Review: I ran a report on peoplefinders.com for my late ex-husband. I paid $19.95 for a one-time record. The only information they provided was his DOB, age, an address (which was incorrect), his relatives - his parents names and addresses, DOB and phone numbers, one of his two siblings name DOB and phone number, and his supposed neighbors for the incorrect address provided.

The name of his second sibling and his son were not listed on the report. Additionally, there was no record of his marriage to me or our divorce listed (both listed as "No Record Found"), no criminal record (he was arrested several times, most recently in 2010 that I know of), and no death record (listed as "No Record Found"). I paid $19.95 to get virtually no information. I did a [redacted] search and found more information from [redacted]. When I called to complain I was told there are NO refunds and they can only provide information that is public record. If a [redacted] search provided more information than peoplefinders.com, all of which is public records, why didn't peoplefinders.com provide more and accurate information?

At the top of the report where they listed his name, it also states "Comprehensive Background Check". There is/was nothing comprehensive about the report at all.Desired Settlement: I expect a full refund since virtually no information was provided. I found more information doing a [redacted] search and I paid nothing to [redacted].

Business

Response:

We have issued a refund for $19.95 and close the account.

Review: Let me start by saying this Web Site should be shut down,,They are Rude,False in every which way,,I am on Disability, they preceded to take $24.99 off My card repeatedly ,for nothing the site was not helpful in any way, all it does is give you the run around, plus it stated pay $1.for a 3 day trial, All I was doing was looking up Myself,,and what little they did show was completely False so I was like well Thank God I only paid a dollar, then I notice on My Bank Statements they proceeded to take $24.99 for 3months, for nothing 1.I never signed up for a Membership. 2.When I called to resolve the issue the women was very Rude, she wasn't even given me a chance to speak because she kept cutting me off Saying "Well Ma'am you are failing to speak the truth" and she continued with it states that after the 3 days are up you will receive an Email asking if you want to Cancel or become a Member, and when I told her I never received a Email, she repeated herself "Well Ma'am you are Failing to speak the Truth",,and at that point I was getting very, very upset and I proceeded to tell the women how I depend on My monthly income and every penny counts and I would have Cancelled if I had ever received an Email from them,,seeing how there is No Way I could afford it,,Trust Me if there was any possible way I could have prevented All this [redacted] I would have,,Pardon My French...So with all this said I would very much appreciate if you can assist me in getting a Refund,,and in My opinion they honestly should be shut down all they are is another SCAM, and they are seriously getting away with ripping innocent people off....THANK YOU VERY MUCH SINCERELY AN INDIVIDUAL LOOKING FOR SOME HELP .....Desired Settlement: HONESTLY THEY SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN BECAUSE I'M SURE I WASN'T THE FIRST SO THEREFORE I'M NOT GONNA BE THE LAST.......REFUND!!

Business

Response:

The customer came to our website on 02/11/16 and purchased a background membership for $9.95 and signed up for PF Rewards membership for $24.99 at the same time. At the time of check out the customer would have to approved before the transaction was processed. No refunds will be issued since the customer approved these charges online.

Consumer

Response:

As you can tell by My statements for 1. this supposed $9.95 purchase did not occur on February 11th it occurred on February 18th and that was for a three-day trial and also as you can tell by my statement I did not purchase no $24.99 membership in February also they have been taken out the $24.99 for the month past 2 month's and also why would I pay for a membership a website that give me the run-around they did not even show me my own background check and honestly I think my statements are proof enough that I never purchased a membership in February when they claim I did so when I had called to complain about my money being tooken off my card the women that I had spoke with told me well we sent you an email 3 days after the the trial asking if I wanted a membership

Business

Response:

Per our Terms of Use agreed to at the time of purchase no refund will be issued.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:Now listen one more time if you look at Peoplefinders previous statement they claim I had purchased the membership the sametime I purchased the 3day trial ,Which is false,,,Then PeopleFinder claims that they send out a Email and if I don't respond to the Email then automatically they take the Membership fee off My card.....NOW LISTEN N LISTEN WELL PUT MY $$$$ BACK ON MY CARD ALL YOUR DOING IS GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND JUST LIKE THEIR WEBSITE DID

Review: The advertisement said that it would collect and give out criminal arrest records, marriage, divorce, etc. I ran a search on myself and received either wrong or no information that the advertisement stated it would collect. I called to complain and ask for a refund and the girl that answered the phone, refused to give me the manager’s name, refused to give me her name, refused to transfer me to anyone, was EXTREMELY RUDE, constantly cutting me off, and she then hung up on me when I told her I was going to complain.Desired Settlement: I want a full refund. I paid for ONE report, not the monthly service.

Business

Response:

The customer received a complete report. Public records vary and not all states release marriage and divorce information. Per our Terms of Use there is no guarantee on report results and no refund will be issued.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: The report was completely bogus and did not have complete information including my correct email address which I used to order the report. The business did not deliver on it's advertised claims: criminal information, marraige records, divorce records, contact information. They did not perform according to their advertisement.

Review: In January of this year I used CFK*peoplefinder to get a criminal background check on someone. I used my credit card to get a one-time check. I noticed that my credit card had a $29.95 charge from this business in February, even though it was supposed to be a one-time charge for January. I called the company and spoke to someone and did receive a refund for half of the amount charged in February and was told that my membership had been cancelled and I would no longer be charged.

I noticed today, May 16,2016, that I have been charged $29.95/month for Feb., March, April and May. I called the service again and spoke to a woman that told me that she had no record of my canceling, and that I must have spoke to someone at their bank. She told me that this person must have forgotten to cancel my membership and that all she could do was to refund me $29.95 for the month of May. I wanted the full$119.80 refunded, but I was told that she could not do this.

I did receive an email that confirms that my membership is cancelled, but I will file a dispute with American Express against this company.Desired Settlement: I would like for my full amount to be refunded. I was charged for the month of February, March, April and May. Thats $29.95 per month for services I did not use and in fact was supposedly canceled by the peoplefinders staff. I want to make sure that I am never charged by this company in the future.

Business

Response:

The customer purchased a trial membership on 01/11/16 for $9.95 instead of the $39.95 full price for a background report. The trial was not canceled therefore the membership was charged from February through May. The cancelation did not occur until 05/16/16 over the phone. A refund was issued for $29.95 for the month of May since there was no prior cancelation. Per our Terms if Use no further refunds will be issued.

Big scam. Just wanted to find out ONE phone number...and then I put where I didn't want to continue with the service afterwards. Evidently they didn't see the part where I wanted it discontinued? But sure saw the part wanting to reseatch a phone number. So.... $50.00 total was billed to my credit card for looking up one single telephone number, and a phone call to a CSR person who couldn't care less that they are pulling this on people. If I am billed again next month, I will get a lawyer. Do not use these people!

Review: PEOPLEFINDERS.COM DID NOT PROVIDE ME ANY INFORMATION THAT I DIDN'T ALREADY HAVE,I.E. THE NAME AND THE PHONE NUMBER OF THE PERSON I SEARCHED FOR. THEREFORE, I MUST RECEIVE A FULL REFUND. THEY SHOULD HAVE CHARGED ME A SERVICE THEY DID NOT RENDER.Desired Settlement: JUST REFUND ME OF ALL CHARGES.

Business

Response:

We provided the report and a three day trial to the customer. Per our Terms of Use, no refund will be issued.

Review: I engaged the sight in September 2015, at that time I did not use it, early 2016, February/March I used enroll for a one time fee 24.95 to find a person in a divorce case. I use my debit card and paid. I found the persons info but never a response. I never used the site again. On June 9, I found the company has been debting my bank account for 24.95 since Sept 2015. When I call they stated the would only credit me back 2 months. I advised I wanted credit for all but the fee I owed.Desired Settlement: refund of the many months from my initial contact, and any interest on the funds

Business

Response:

The customer signed up for a membership trial on 09/29/15 and received a report. No cancelation was done until 06/10/16. No further refunds will be issued

I believe this company knowingly provides information that is incomplete and not current based upon information that is publicly available through a number of public sources or they are using a a very limited inexpensive source to justify their reporting. Quite a bit of their "current" information is more than five (5) years old and is incomplete. They either don't care about quality control or plainly are just interested in taking your money by making the lease effort without any accountability. I have tried this service twice between 6 months intervals (hoping for some improvement the second time).

Review: They withdraw on June 15 0.48, 0.50 and 0.47 then I cancel it. On June 18 they withdraw $2.95

so I asked them to refund the $2.95 and they wouldn't. They did this after I cancelled.Desired Settlement: I want the $2.95 put back in my account.

Business

Response:

Our website states that there is a $2.95 cancelation fee for the membership trial. Per our Terms Use no refund will be issued.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:it was under a free trail and it was cancelled the same day so there should not be a charge for cancellation fee.

Business

Response:

The trial is not free. Per our Terms of Use, no refund will be issued

Review: I paid 0.48 cents for a phone search on 04/21/2016. I had to enter my credit card and I cancelled with the short period afterwards for monthly charges. I was charged 24.95 on April 26, May 26, and June 26. I called the company in early May and was assured my card would be cancelled. I did not reconcile my checking account again until this month. I saw the other two charges. On July 27, I cancelled again on line. I even called customer call. The call taker was blunt and kept interrupting me to tell me that I only logged in once and that I had not tried to cancel again. She said they record all the phone calls and that I only called once, today. I told her that I did not use the same phone on the other calls. She kept interrupting and I told her I wanted my $75 back. She proceeded to tell me it was not a crime. I had no idea why she would even bring that up. I will admit I finally told her to shut up and let me speak. When I said I had no idea why she brought up the word "crime" she said that I brought it up. She ended the conversation.Desired Settlement: It is evident from her response and the complaints I read on the Revdex.com listing that this is a common occurrence with the company. I only researched on phone number for which I paid 0.48 cents. Since I did not use the membership at all and did make diligent attempts to cancel, I want the full amount of $24.95 for the each month of the three months (Total $74.85) refunded.

Thank you

Business

There was no cancelation until the customer contacted us for the first time on 07/28/16. Per our Terms of Use no refunds will be issued

Consumer

Response:

I do not have any call logs regarding the event back in April. I thought the matter was resolved that day. The representative said that they only show my phone calls from my cell phone. I do not recall which line I may have used to call in April. They said I would have to provide them with any possible numbers that I used. Because I may have used a business line, it could any of dozen of numbers.
