Review: on 7/20/15 I ordered your services to look at my own personal files and your service/product said I could try service/product for a 3 day trial for only $2.95. When I called [redacted] to cancel service/product on 7/20/15, I spoke with a female who would not spell her name to me. She said I would have to pay $19.95. I told her I would like to speak with supervisor. she quickly sent my phone call to supervisor's phone message machine. I was not able to leave message because it never beep to start message. so I called the number again. got same female. now she said I would pay for $19.95 plus $2.95!!! I asked her to please transfer me to supervisor's message machine. she said she would do it again - a second time. she was very rude and unprofessional. got supervisor's machine. again no beep to start message. hung up on me. called a third time and spoke with wan/agent. verified with him that I did have to pay 19.95 plus 2.95. wan directed me to supervisor's machine and I just left a message after the lady stop talking on phone. Your product/service says I will NOT have to pay 19.95 IF I CANCEL WITHIN 3 DAYS. I should be paying 2.95 and not 2.95 and 19.95. your product/service is VERY DECEPTIVE AND AN OUTRIGHT LIE. I WANT A REFUND OF 19.95 AND PAY THE TRIAL PERIOD OF 2.95 ONLY.Desired Settlement: I WANT A REFUND OF 19.95 AND PAY THE TRIAL PERIOD OF 2.95 ONLY.

Response:
We have reviewed your account and found that on 7/20/2015 instead of purchasing a single Background Report at $39.95 you chose to receive a Background Report at a discounted price of $19.95. The reason this product is discounted is because it comes with a three day trial membership. As stated, if cancelled within three days you will be billed $2.95 for the trial. If the trial is allowed to renew it would have renewed at $29.95 per month for the membership. Your original purchase of $19.95 is not affected. We received your cancellation over the phone on 7/20/2015, within the three day trial period, therefore you were billed $2.95 for the trial on the fourth day. Again, the cancellation does not negate your initial purchase of $19.95 for the Background Report.

Response:
I am rejecting this response because: your product clearly indicates a trial period of 2.95 without having to pay a whole month. with your reasoning everybody would have no choice of a trial period. you are completely deceiving the consumer in sucking them in to paying what they did not want in the first place. my experience with you has left a bad taste in my mouth as you are clearly deceitful. that is the only word that comes to mind. I will not be trying trials of new services and/or products because of you. when another company offers a trial that is what it means - TRIAL. Not a whole month and cancel within 3 days. I am not satisfied and want to make a negative complaint with Revdex.com. I would recommend Revdex.com to go to your website but you probably already changed the wording of it. If you had been more clearly about your service you would not be wasting my time and vice versa.
Review: I ordered a one time search from this company in the amount of $11.95 plus .50 cent for them to email it to me. They charged me $11.95 plus .50 cent and $14.98 for a membership which I did not request. PLEASE LOOK AT (PEOPLE FINDER FRAUD) ON [redacted] YOU WILL FIND DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SAME AND SIMILAR BILLING PRACTICES BY THESE PEOPLE. Unfortunately I looked too late. These people are commiting fraud and getting away with it.Desired Settlement: It is my understanding that now that they have my card information they will continue to take money out of my account monthly for a service I did not request or need.

Response:
We have received your complaint. The customer made a purchase on 03/19 for one background report. Then a different background report was ran under the membership for $14.98. The membership was used. Per our Terms of Use that is agreed on at the time of purchase we do not issue refunds. We will no be issuing a refund for $14.98
This is a scam. They advertise a 95 cent 'free trial' then get your card information and automatically withdraw 24.95 until you catch on, call them, and request to 'cancel' a subscription that you never knew you were making.
Biggest ripoff on the planet. I deserve to lose my money for being such a heel. Scam.
Wow, Very rude! Try to cancel this! Got hung up on twice. Would not email me confirmation it was canceled or would they give a confirmation number. SCAM!

Response:
We believe there is confusion because this customer has had two accounts with us. Two separate emails and credit cards were used. One account has not had any activity since October 2013 and the other has the charges he is requesting refunds for. On 5/1/2014 when calling our Customer Care department only the old information was provided so the representatives could only view the account with no recent activity. Eventually he provided the information used to create the more recent account and we were unable to see the recent charges. Per his request on 4/25/2014 we did in fact refunded two charges of $24.95. Six business days have passed since this refund was processed on our end. Occasionally, banks will take up to ten business days to process a refund. We recommend allowing more time for these refunds to process back to the credit card.
Review: this service claims to be "free" but it's not. the moment you search even yourself, the first result you get is a shopping cart page that makes you sign up for an ad-hoc search or extended membership. When you opt for the cheaper ad-hoc membership, it pulls up basic details about the subject person. It then provides two buttons that indicate you can click for a Background Check or Criminal Records, again for an additional fee. So you pay the additional fee (around $10 bucks), and it returns NOTHING after running a query before your eyes. It doesn't even show the person's name who it just provided general info about. The results look like a glitch, so naturally, you run it again. NOTHING AGAIN. Their customer service dept says that this is completely legitimate. They don't see how any of this is fraudulent. Even when you bring to their attention that the same query was run several times because it looks like a system glitch, they say "you must have run it on the same person to see if anything changed in their public records." Seriously, a reasonable person would expect public records to change on a person 5x in a matter of five minutes. They are playing stupid. They know this is a scam, and they stick to a weak script that they prepared in advance to justify their scam.Desired Settlement: they can refund my $10 or they can simply reset the number of search vouchers. They show I used 4/5. They can set it back to 0 and allow me to use 5, now that I know they really don't have any information on anyone beyond basic information until you run it for the first time.

We offer a free preliminary search which will indicate what information is available upon purchase for each listing. We offer this to ensure that you are fully aware of what information you will receive upon making a purchase. We have reviewed the reports available on your account and found they are generated normally. PeopleFinders has access to billions of public records, including the most recent and 40-years worth of historical data. This allows us to provide information about most every person or business in the United States. Public records are created from a variety of sources, including phone directories, property records, birth and death records, magazine subscriptions and voter registration cards. Although PeopleFinders provides public records, we do not create or modify them in any way. We are only able to display the information provided in each record, so we cannot guarantee their accuracy. New public records are created every day, so PeopleFinders is always able to offer the most up-to-date and accurate information possible; however, this information must be publicly reported by the person. Our records show that after the initial purchase on 5/20/2015 a five pack of Background Report Vouchers was purchased for $9.95. Each one was subsequently used, the last being successfully used recently on 6/2/2015. All vouchers are now used but as a courtesy we would be more than happy to run an additional search for you at no additional cost to obtain the information you are searching. The free courtesy search will remain on your account until it is used. You may elect to have that free exchange search ran at any time. Just call our number and a representative will run your search for you, free of charge. The charges are non-refundable per the Terms you agreed to.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me, assuming they provide me with the additional services that they assured would be available in their response. I do believe that the way their site is set up with cause others to have the same experience that I did. It is very misleading.
Review: I used peoplefinders.com only once in August of 2013. I was signed up without my knowledge for a monthly billing of $24.95. I discovered this yesterday and promptly called them. They refunded me for three months back to the first of the year. However, I was not refunded for the last four months of 2013. This issue may also relate to their online advertising.Desired Settlement: I would like a reimbursement for four months ($99.80) to my Discover card from which I made the payment in the first place.

Response:
PeopleFinders.com is a self-service website. Users select the product they wish to purchase and proceed through checkout on their own. We have reviewed our files and our
records show that an order for a search was conducted by this customer. on 8/6/2013 At that
time they had a choice to accept a special discounted price available with a
monthly membership or the full price for the search without membership. The membership option was affirmatively
selected by them. That membership
provided a three day trial to try our services.
Our membership service provides unlimited searches and other features
for a monthly fee. This is clearly and
conspicuously disclosed on the initial order selection page. Then again on the payment information page directly below the total there is a section outlining the terms of the membership which clearly and conspicuously
states that after the initial trial, unless the consumer cancels the service
the service will continue monthly and the card they provided will be charged
until they tell us to cancel their membership to avoid future charges. The membership is mentioned no less than
two times on two pages of checkout before the order is complete.
Given that
members can conduct unlimited searches for a monthly membership fee our terms
do not allow for any refunds and simply allow members to cancel anytime to
avoid future charges. For the period of his membership the customer was charged
each month. During that time, our customer service was available to take the cancellation
at any time. We did not receive a
contact from the customer until eight months
after the membership was initiated. Per this request over the phone we closed the account and, as a one time courtesy, agreed to refund three charges of $24.95. In conclusion, the account is closed, there will be no further automatic billing and we
have provided three months of
refunds. The remaining membership fees are non-refundable per the Terms agreed to.

The URL you provided leads to the Contact Us page. On PeopleFinders.com searching is free but payment is required to view our database of public record data. When you order a report, our system searches through billions of public records and collects every piece of relevant information. PeopleFinders pays for access to this data, so the charge is for us to conduct a search on your behalf and compile the information.
We do offer a free preliminary search which will indicate what information is available upon purchase for each listing. We offer this to ensure that you are fully aware of what information you will receive upon making a purchase. The available information is indicated by green icons. If you do not see a green icon that indicates a particular piece of information is available, then it will not be available upon purchase. Review: I used Peoplefinders once several months ago using an advertised $.99 service, which for some reason cost $24.00. The service was next to useless, however I knowingly used it. I was unaware that the company would debit my bank account some $24 a month in perpetuity. (I do not have an account with them - I can't sign in to the website: and the company does not send me a password to sign in using their website using their "recover password function" - obviously that is because I do not have an account with them even though they charge me every month for a service which I have only used once). The barriers to communicate with the company are significant, and apparently I need to spend all day on the phone to get to talk to someone that could address this problem. I have been unsuccessful in contacting them.Desired Settlement: It may be impossible to get a refund (reading the website disclaimer(s)). For the record I would like my money back for the past 2 months that they have been debiting my bank account against my wishes. I desire official confirmation that Peoplefinders will discontinue debiting my bank account, and that they understand that I do not desire their service(s). This is a fair request, and I can not communicate this request to the company any other way than to complain to the Revdex.com.

We have reviewed our records and found an account under your name. It is under a different email address than the one provided on this complaint. Our records show you successfully logged in and cancelled this account through your Account Manager on 10/23/2014.
At the time of purchase on 6/16/2014 you chose to receive a discounted price ($0.95) for signing up for a 3 day trial to our Membership. This membership allowed you to receive an unlimited number of:
•People Searches – Get the facts you need to find anyone, anywhere
•Email Searches – Obtain email addresses, or learn about the owner of any address
•Social Profile Searches – See updates on all of your friend’s social profiles in one spot
•Marriage Searches – Find out if a man or woman has ever been married
•Divorce Searches – Check the divorce status of any man or woman
•Property Searches – Learn about any piece of property, including the current owner and value
You had the option to cancel this membership trial via your account manager on the website, via email or via phone. We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this trial. The 3 day trial has ended; therefore, as stated on each page of checkout, you were charged the $24.95 membership fee on the fourth day and for every month thereafter. During the five month period of your membership our Customer Care department was available to take your cancellation at any time. Per this complaint, and as a onetime courtesy, we will grant one refund of $24.95 for the most current month of membership. Please allow 2-5 business days for the refund to process back into your credit or debit card. Your PeopleFinders.com account is also closed.
Review: I went into the website to find information about a person that works with A/C and who's number (the one I had) was disconnected. When I completed the transaction the system gave me a message saying the transaction was not approved so I re-entered again with the same results. I did enter another card information and this time the transaction went through. The information I received was inaccurate so I never was able to contact the person I was looking for. When I saw the charges have been processed 3 times in both cards I called and the lady told me she would send me an e-mail with the cancellation. The next week I was charged again for a full month and when I called the lady told me they did not have record of cancellation and I realized the charge had been processed with 2 different companies. Peoplefinders 800-718-8997 and CHKMATE INSTANTCHECKMA 866 4905980, the person at peoplefinders said she did not have record of cancellation and I never received the e-mail with the cancellation from Chckmate.Just today after the aggravation and the bad manners of the agent at Peoplefinders I received the cancellation e-mail after I paid $26.00 to get no information. I agreed to pay $1.00 and that was it, even when I did not find accurate information.Desired Settlement: Reimbursement of the $25.90 that I was charged. I did not received the information I requested plus their system told me twice the transaction have not been approved so I did not have any reason to request cancellation twice specially because I called for cancellation on both charges not knowing there were 2 different sites. Their own system transfered me to the other website. There are 4 charges one for $0.47 another for $0.48 and $24.95 in one card, and $1.00 in my other card.

Review: I utilized peoplefinders.com online on 31st Oct 2015. Upon using their service, I found the information that was provided was way outdated.Hence, withing minutes after signing in I cancelled the service. However, the representative, over the phone stated that I will be charged $19.95.When I asked her why I am billed so much when their website stated only $2.95 if cancelled within 3 days she was very rude and stated that any cancellation will be still be billed $19.95. To my surprise, my credit card statement showed two transactions $19.95 for the date 10/31/2015 and $2.95 for the date 11/4/2015. I felt cheated and tricked and billed huge even though I cancelled it within few minutes. This is quite unacceptable and very unprofessional.Desired Settlement: I would like the peoplefinders.com take measures in refunding the $19.95 that was billed in excess to my credit card. I would also like to tell them that they should not be doing these type of wrong billing. Most importantly, the representatives should be polite and adjust the billing rightaway (when customers contact them over the phone) rather than doing the adjustment only after customers make these type of complaints on a reputed Revdex.com and other sites (for it spoils their reputation).

Response:
There were two things the customer signed up for on 10/31/15. The 1st product was a Background Report on [redacted] for $19.95. We provided them with all public record information that we have available on this person. This product is normally $39.95, however they received it at a discounted price for signing up for a Membership as well. The membership is billed at $24.95 a month. If the customer cancels withing the first 3 days, they only have to pay $2.95. So, when the customer called in for support they canceled their membership , there fore they were not billed the $24.95. Since they did so within the 3 days , they were only billed $2.95 for the membership. The $19.95 was for a different product, once services are rendered on that it is not refundable. Our Terms of Use state this.
I used the service one time and the company billed me for over a year 24.95. Do not give them a credit card number. They trick you from the first time you use it.
Our specific complaints are simply a repeat of well over a 1000 hyper negative complaints/ratings against Peoplefinders. In addition to well over 1,000 hyper negative complaints/ratings on other sites just the Revdex.com alone notes almost 500 complaints to them in the past 3 years alone.
We have read hundreds of the nearly 100% hyper negative complaints/ratings. In our opinion they all generally fall into 2 scam genres, as follows:
Scam Genre #1:
Their site is fraudulently deceptive to the extreme by tricking people into being billed typically $19.95 for a so called extensive report. They are tricked into thinking it would be only $2.95 if they cancel within 3 days. Plus people are tricked into reoccurring monthly membership charges to their cards, viz. $24.95 mo. if they miss Peoplefinders obfuscated 3 day cancellation requirement. So as an example a customer who thinks by ordering a report and canceling within 3 days he/she will be charged $2.95 actually will be charged $2.95 plus $19.95 for the report. And if the customer misses Peoplefinders obfuscated 3 day cancellation requirement they additionally will be charged within 4 days another $24.95 membership for that 1st month and every month thereafter until they cancel. We were tricked into all the above except for the $24.95.
Scam Genre #2:
People finders offer a more limited People Search Report, or a supposedly more extensive Background Report they claim is the best deal. Major complainants claim the basic reports are inaccurate, and superficial. Further the more extensive reports are nearly, if not all, listed as "no records"(nothing). Whereupon many complainants claim to have subsequently obtained extensive report info from other more legitimate background search cos that Peoplefinders did not provide.
Key point: The extensive info would cost Peoplefinders much more to obtain hence it is much more profitable to not obtain it, yet charge for it anyway.
Key point: "No records found" does not mean there are no records. It just means that no matter how superficial Peoplefinders search they found "no records".
We speculate that Peoplefinders probably have some very limited, "on the cheap", essentially phony source for their so called "extensive background search". But nothing like their legitimate competitors use. But that is not the impression People Finders give on their web site.
For example: The report we had Peoplefinders run came up with mostly out of date inaccurate yadda yadda on their "standard report", plus "No Records Found" on all their "extensive report". Whereas one of their competitors came up with substantial and accurate info for us on all counts. And with no hassles, straight forward, no deception.
As with most complainants who contacted Peoplefinders we were stonewalled & rudely treated. Whereupon we had our credit card co. reverse all charges. Further after that we escalated the issue to the supervisor who volunteered to additionally contact the Revdex.com. Plus he volunteered to escalate this to our credit card co., possibly to others.
People Finders have practiced equivocated answers for all complaints. They have become "petty masters of deception" in our opinion - they have become quite diabolically clever at what most any reasonable person will conclude is a cleverly contrived scheme to cheat customers no matter what their yadda yadda. They could prevent the vast majority of complaints by simply straight forward wording that clearly emphasizes their deal to customers. But that is not their cynical business model.
Hence we are further escalating the issue to the CA attorney general.
I paid for the one time find and no information was useful and it dose not tell you about marriage.
Charges were made to my account that were not specified on the website or in any of the terms and conditions statements. BEWARE Also customer service was extremely rude, talking over customer, etc
I signed up for a $.99 temp three day membership just to see how it worked. I made sure to cancel it within the 3 days. To my surprise I am now charged $2.95 to cancel?? I called and was told I could eliminate the $2.95 charge if I signed up for the monthly service of like $24.95?? I would not be charged the $2.95 until I cancelled that?? WTH Seems like theft to me?? Very unethical business practices!
This business didn't even have the basic information correct. I paid the nominal fee of $2.95 trying to get information on a death notice for an individual. Peoplefinders.com did not even have the correct birthday, last known mailing address or information that the person was deceased. I am fortunate that I did not subscribe to the service but $2.95 is too much to pay for nothing. This company needs to be investigated. How many people have paid the $2.95 for lacking and misinformation? How many have paid even more.

Public records are collected from thousands of sources. Here are a few examples:
Supermarket Rewards Cards:
Every time anyone makes a purchase from a grocery store or drugstore with a loyalty or "rewards" card, that information is used to build a very personal profile of your shopping habits.
Product Warranty and Registration Cards:
Do you fill out the warranty and product registration cards for every new product you purchase? If so, you probably assume this is standard procedure for making sure your warranty is valid. In fact, warranty and product registration cards do very little for the consumer. Moreover, all your personal information on warranty cards is collected and used for marketing purposes.
Raffles and Sweepstakes:
Though raffles and sweepstakes offer a one-in-a-million chance of winning some type of luxury item, free gym memberships or dream vacations you should be aware how your contact information is used. Often, you are asked to proved Name, address and phone number as a means of contacting you in the event you should win. In reality, this information is used for direct marketing purposes.
You do not always have to enter a raffle or surf the Internet for someone to collect personal data about you. In fact, many of the activities and responsibilities you have as a member of society, property owner and licensed driver contribute to what is known as your "Public Profile." Review: I thought I was buying a phone number or address from Peoplefinders.com. They charged my credit card $2.99 then again charged another $3. The information was pointless. It did not work and was invalid. I received my credit card bill and they are now charging me an additional $25 for services rendered. I can see paying the original charges because I did use them even though it was worthless. But to continue to charge me additional fees is crazy. They will not return my money and I feel they are cheating customers with hidden charges. They are a shady company that does not follow through with useful information.Desired Settlement: I want my $25 back. And I think people need to be made aware of the services rendered or not rendered in my case.

Response:
At the time of purchase you chose to receive a discounted price for signing up for a 3 day trial to our Membership. You had the option to cancel this membership trial at anytime via your account manager on the website, via email, or via phone. We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this trial. The 3 day trial had ended; therefore, you were charged the membership fee on the fourth day, and for every month thereafter. Per this complaint, and as a onetime courtesy, we will grant one refund of $24.95 for the most current month of membership. Please allow 2-5 business days for the refund to process back into your credit or debit card.
