Our customer service is available to take their cancellation at any time.  The automatic renewal of the membership was cancelled per this customer's request over the phone on 8/7/2015. There will be no automatic billing. The customer is responsible for the purchase of the $59.70 membership and can enjoy all the benefits of membership until it expires on 2/3/2016.

I am rejecting this response because:  While I appreciate PeopleFinder's courtesy and willingness to refund my December payment, I believe that they should do more.  I am an educated man and would not have agreed to a monthly service that I have no need for.  I was attempting to find contact information for one person one time and the fact that PeopleFinders has almost 200 complaints against their billing practices suggests to me that the website could be more straightforward.  $48.90 seems like a great deal of money for a phone number that did not work.  The $24.95 collected in October should be sufficient and fair payment for contact information for one person, one time.  If they check their records, they will see that no additional inquiries were attempted.  If PeopleFinders would be willing to refund an additional $24.95 for the month of November, I would consider this matter settled equitably.  Thank you.  - [redacted]

We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this trial. The 3 day trial has ended; therefore, you were charged the membership fee on the fourth day, and for every month thereafter. Per your initial request over the phone on 5/19/2015 we cancelled the automatic renewal of your membership. The two membership fees are non-refundable per the Terms you agreed to but per this complaint, and as a onetime courtesy, we will grant one refund for the most current month of membership. Please allow 2-5 business days for the refund to process back into your credit or debit card.

We feel we have already explained the $9.95 product. Again, we are unable to process a refund for a charge that has already been disputed with your card company. You will now need to follow their policies and procedures regarding these charges.

When the records were retrieved the most current address happens to be in Illinois. PeopleFinders pays for access to this data, so the charge is for us to conduct a search on your behalf, not to return a specific result. I am rejecting this response because:   There is no such clear choice on their website.  The idea that anyone using their service for the first time would actually need a continuing service is ludicrous.  Therefore the only way then can get people to sign up for a monthly service that no one needs is to trick people.  Additional evidence is all over the internet in the form of the exact same complaint that I am making.   Just look up people finders on [redacted] and you will see endless complaints.

This shows the email account that set up the peoplefinders account.  It was the administrative assistant of our company, StL Real Estate LLC.  She used the following username:[redacted]

The trial refers to the Membership only. You have 3 days to cancel the trial which would have automatically charge you a monthly membership fee of $24.95. As stated during checkout and on your cancellation email confirmation, if you cancel within three days you will only be billed $2.94 for the trial. Your original purchase is not affected. You will not be billed $24.95 for the Membership because you cancelled within 3 days. The two charges on your account ($19.94 and 42.95) are non refundable per the Terms you agreed to.

I am rejecting this response because: What People Finders has told you is untrue. I have bank records that show peoplefinders.com has been charging me $24.95 every month since January 20, 2014 which can be seen in the copy of these charges I have attached. As I stated in my complaint, People Finders started charging me $24.95 every month after I had agreed to pay a one time charge of $0.99 in December of 2014 to look up a phone number that had been calling me.People Finders sent me an email today 02/29/16 saying they are refunding the last charge of $24.95 that was charged this month, and nothing else about refunding any other charges.

As stated in our Terms of Use, we do not offer refunds for the product you ordered. The free courtesy search will remain on your account until it is used.  You may elect to have that free exchange search ran at any time.

We have reviewed your account and found that on 7/18/2015 instead of purchasing a single Background Report at $39.95 you chose to receive a Background Report at a discounted price of $19.95. The reason this product is discounted is because it comes with a three day trial membership. If cancelled...

within three days you will be billed $2.95 for the trial. If the trial is allowed to renew it would have renewed at $29.95 per month for the membership. Your original purchase of $19.95 is not affected. We received your cancellation online on 7/18/2015, within the three day trial period, therefore you were billed $2.95 for the trial on the fourth day. Again, the cancellation does not negate your initial purchase of $19.95 for the Background Report.

We provided the report and a three day trial to the customer. Per our Terms of Use, no refund will be issued.

The customer was not told that we can email sources of public information. We only report what is listed in public records. The information can be removed from our website under Contact Us at www.peoplefinders.com but this does not remove this information off of public records.

I am rejecting this response because:  I did not sign up for a rewards program.  And by their own admission, it must not have been something they offered up front and straightforward.  I did not cancel within 7 days because I did not know I had signed up for it.  No e-mail confirmation, nothing.  No notice that I had been charged.  Nothing.  No notice when the 2nd charge was made a month later.  I did not know either charge had been made until receiving my monthly statement on 12-9, at which time I acted immediately and discovered both charges.While they have refunded one charge, they should refund both.

The charge was posted correctly online and approved at the time of purchase. No refund will be issued.

It is the user's responsibility to keep track of any separate registration information they enter on our self-service site. There is no way for our system to recognize separate registrations especially when the customer uses completely different information seven years apart. Again your account is closed, there will be no further automatic billing and we will grant one refund for the most current month of membership (charged on 3/22/2015) as a courtesy. We believe this is fair as this also accounts for all charges that took place after your mistaken cancelation of your old account on 2/24/2015. There are no further courtesy refunds available to you.

We feel we have already addressed these concerns. Due to the Terms you agreed to and the dispute you mentioned through the card company, we are unable to provide any further refunds. Again, per your first contact with our Customer Care department on 9/17/2014 we closed your account and refunded the most current membership fee of $24.95 charged on 9/15/2014. We are not responsible for being aware of your credit card's billing cycle or when you review your statements.

The customer purchased a extensive background check. The website states in a pop up menu the coverage for divorce records. No refund will be issued
