I signed up for free trial, then cancelled after not seeing what was advertised of the site. I was charged for 2 months of membership. Seeking refund.
I signed up for Shaw Academy's free trial in early June, and attempted to cancel it a week later after seeing that their classes were not as advertised and not worth my time. I went through all these rigorous steps, including an attempt to manipulate me into continuing my membership so they can later charge me more if I do not cancel it in time, all seeming to deter people from ever cancelling. After this I believed it to be cancelled. I am currently charged with two months of membership at $69.99 each. They did not cancel my membership apparently. I have reached out after finding this out about a refund, and they have sent me numerous emails delaying the process and saying nothing to me about this issue in an assumed attempt to get me to give up. I have taken this up with PayPal as that is what I paid with and am being firm to ShawAcademy that I demand a refund after being unfairly charged. No one should use this service as it is manipulative and out for stealing your money through sideways means. I demand a refund from them.

Desired Outcome

I need a refund immediately.

We are sorry that you had to go through this entire ordeal. Please be assured that your account has been deactivated and we have initiated a refund which will be credited back to the source in next 3- 5 business days. Please let us know if there is anything else you need assistance with.

They give a run around to cancel, and when you finally think you do, you get charged again. It's a scam that abuses good marketing.
I came across the ad for Shaw Academy on Instagram and I ignored it the first few times, but I eventually clicked the link thinking it was a legitimate way to learn a new skill I had my eyes on. I took most of the free course before I accidentally clicked on a button (that was not clearly labeled) to purchase a kit. I thought I was accessing the free one they said I had with my free trial, but instead it was a one-click purchase. I assumed it was my mistake and that I had not read it correctly; however, when I saw the button again later, it was not clear that it was a one-click purchase for a $40 kit. I found out I could not get a refund, so I shrugged it off and told myself I would be more careful. When my free trial "expired" I was asked to pick a subscription. They offered a great deal and I had enjoyed the free part of the course, so I clicked through. However, when they charged me, it was not the advertised price. When trying to cancel, they make you click through about five to ten pages where they try to keep you on board and offer lower prices. After looking at the lower priced options, I paused my membership to think on it. When they would only apply that discount to the next billing cycle, I chose to cancel the subscription all together. They gave me another run around and said I had to call a number. It was not available when I tried the service (this was pre-shutdown for the US with COVID measures). I thought I eventually canceled it through the site because I was not charged again until recently. My status was marked as canceled before, but when I logged in today, it had been reactivated. I was charged another $60 for four weeks. I have not been charged for over eight weeks, so if I had been on the same plan, I would have been charged sooner. They refuse to give any refunds and clearly cannot cancel my subscription until I take more drastic measures. I have had to cancel my card in order to not get charged again. This creates a hassle as now I am faced with getting a new card, setting up the new card, and potential disruptions to some necessary purchases. I wish they were more clear, did not scam people with one-click purchases, and offered refunds or at least true cancellations. If they had done those things, they would not have over 2,000 complaints with the Revdex.com and many people would still see them as reputable, with even some consideration about returning to use the service later. Before COVID this would be considered preposterous, but in the current state of things, what they are doing can affect many Americans and other people of the world who are seriously struggling to make ends meet right now. I refuse to tolerate this behavior and I hope this complaint has some effect on how they handle things in the future.

Desired Outcome

I wish to have my $119.98 refunded to me (if not already done so through my bank), and an amendment to the Shaw Academy website with clearer advertising, messaging, and information in general. Also, easier ways to cancel and at least refunds to those who ask during COVID times.

I was given a 4-week free trial on the 15th of July 2020 and decided to opt-out after a week because I don't have enough time for it.

After I went through the ultra misleading cancellation process and opted out the service, I received a bill of AUD 69.99 tonight for a Premium Membership without my consent.

I am currently requesting a refund and cancel the membership. Will update when I got more information. Please stay away from Shew Academy!!!

Shaw Academy took £200 from my account and they took money without asking for my permission
Today (11/08/2020) I received a call from Shaw Academy telling that they would give me my toolkit free of charge for 12 months due to Covid-19 so I said yes then after I got off the phone I received a notification from PayPal showing that £199.95 was taken out my account without my permission and now I demand my refund from them ASAP!!

Desired Outcome

I'm seeking my full refund ASAP

Shaw Academy Response • Aug 13, 2020

During my trial period I was chnaged 39 euros for the one click puchase of the certificate that I did not make.
During my free trial period my bank account was changed by 39 euros for the Certificate that I did not purchase. I was in Contact with the Support team on the phone and sent E-Mails three times to support and billing teams but I never got a feedback regarding my problems. The free 60 days period that I was offered as a compensation I rejected, since I do not want to be changed later for other one-click purchases that I did not do.
I was charged 39 euros on 03.08.2020 and since then I did not get any proper reply regarding my problem.

Desired Outcome

I would like to get a refund for the purchase that I did not make

Shaw Academy Response • Aug 13, 2020

I have reviewed your account and would like to confirm that we have charged £39.00 for the purchase (Module E Certificate) you made via our one click purchase option. As per our Terms and Condition mentioned to you during the registration this is a non refundable charge, however as a good will gesture I have initiated a refund which will be credited back to the source in next 3-5 business days.

I would like a refund from the business of $69.99.

I wish to be reimbursed $349.95 for the 5 months since I cancelled.

Charged upon signing up for a free trial and refusal of a refund.
I signed up for a free trial and immediately was unsatisfied with their offering. Subsequently I deactivated my account and canceled the membership not to forget. I was then alerted my credit card account was charged $69.99. I contacted the merchant who confirmed my account was canceled but maintains charging me for accessing the platform during the free trial period and canceling the membership after an hour of signing up. If I'm in a free trial and cancel my membership within that period, why am I having to pay for something I haven't and don't have access to use?

Desired Outcome

I would first like a refund as that is the bare minimum I was seeking upon canceling the free trial membership. Second, they must have their policies reviewed so they must communicate through marketing and advertising clearly to inform the consumer and not mislead them with catch phrases like, "free trial" and then charge them. Third, upon noticing the number of existing complaints for Shaw Academy I'd like to see them cited for fraudulent claims and business practices with the intent to mislead and cheat consumers seeking information, education, and skill enhancing course.

I accept the refund they're alleging to submit.

This company changed me without permission, when I was within my 4 week trial. I'm still trying to get my money back!
I was charged $69.99 that I did not authorize. When I went to cancel it was so hard to do so and ended having to call to do so. I also was within my 4 weeks and they still charged me. I had been emailing Ryan who works for Shaw and my last email from him was that my claim is going to the Refund Processing Team. And I haven't heard from them at all!

Desired Outcome

My money back and to stop scamming people!

Shaw Academy Response • Aug 13, 2020

I have reviewed your account as well as gone through your complaint. We would like to bring to your attention that the amount that has been debited from your account is for auto renewal of the course since you failed to cancel your account within the trial period. The auto renewal process is clearly mentioned in the terms and condition that you initially agreed to.

However as a goodwill gesture we have initiated a refund which will be credited back to the source in 3-5 business days.

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
However, my 4 weeks was not up yet when debited took place, thank you for my refund!

Website and button I clicked said "Free Trial" and "Payment due: $0.00", however my account was charged $69.99.
Signed up for free trial. Read *alldocumentation including terms of service. All documentation states "free trial" and that I will not be charged until the 28 day free trial is over (see attached documentation). Additionally, all the links I clicked and the payment page on the website says that I will "pay $0.00 today" (see documentation), but once I clicked the link, I was immediately charged $69.99 (see receipt). I attempted to call the phone number listed with the Revdex.com and it was "disconnected". Finally found my way to a form on the website and submitted this information to the company. And, believe it or not, that erroneous charge has kept me from eating because I have *verylittle money as I am currently unemployed. The amount also overdrew my account, so I have to pay a $30 overdraft charge as well. Not to mention the time I have had to take to try to take care of this including multiple calls to paypal and my bank (all of whom are having "high call volume due to covid-19"). This time interrupts my job search and is very, very frustrating.

Desired Outcome

I want a refund and I want payment of my overdraft charge covered. I also would like Shaw Academy to change their business tactics (I mean, really this is fraud. At the very least, they are lying) and be honest and transparent. If more people have had this problem, then it would be nice if they were not allowed to do business in the U.S. Honestly, I wish I could get my time, energy and ability to eat back as well.

Customer Response • Aug 14, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
A portion of the business' resolution was acceptable, namely the refund. Their explanation, however, is incorrect and I want consumers to be warned (even just through the Revdex.com, I am not the only person this has happened to). I did NOT agree to an upgrade and ONLY selected the button that said "Payment $0.00" as you can see in the screenshots. There is nothing that says I will be paying $69.99 and the pop-up screens that occur after you click the "Payment $0.00" button (which are predatory btw) I only closed with the x in the upper right hand corner of the screen and then left the website. I am literally the only person I know who reads every inch of the page and the entire terms and conditions (particularly when signing up through paypal because I know it is a direct line to my bank account).

Ideally, the business would change these tactics and be more transparent on their site, but ultimately, I have no control over this. Just please, consumers (especially if you don't have $70 to risk), be very careful with Shaw Academy's "Free trial" (and also keep in mind that the phone number listed is to a line that is not in service).

I signed up to Shaw academy in May 2020. I cancelled my subscription the following day but they still billed me twice.
I signed up on the 15th May 2020, following day I cancelled my subscription. In July I realised they billed me R400ZAR without notifying me. I never used their services since I had cancelled. When I emailed them they said they were not refunding me instead they will offer me 6 months free access which cost about $199US. A few days ago while looking at my bank statement I realised they actually billed me twice. It doesnt make sense for them to offer me something that us worth almost 5-6 times the money am requesting for my refund.

Desired Outcome

I want a refund. They never alerted me that the free period is over and they will start billing. They billed me twice and they never bothered to ask why I'm paying and not attending any online lessons (service that am paying for). That is not being people friendly and professional. If they are adamant on not refunding 100% at least they should do 75% refund because it seems all they care about is stealing money from people.

I have signed in for the free trial.
Since I just click to the banner on app but it charge my credit card immediately 39.99 usd. Please refund me, covid19 affects my family heavily. Thank you very much.
My information is

the last 4 digits on the card: ***
the amount paid:39.99 usd
the date of payment: 6 August 2020

Desired Outcome

This is a scam. No support, only automatic answers. No help or whatsoever. They are charging money for "free classes" even after the support is contacted and is inactive, about issues with cancellation. Only irrelevant automatic replies. No way of getting the scammed money back. These kind of things have no place on the market.

They have taken the right action of refunding the customer.
Thank you

Shaw Academy refuse to complete refund my account when I canceled my account within a day of sign up. They also refuse to remove my account permantly.
I signed up for an account with Shaw Academy on Wednesday, August 5 at 8:01 AM. They have pop up ads every where, and I accidentally clicked on one of the pop-up called "Tool kit". This result in my bank account was charged $39.99 without my consent. After that, I realized how I was not allow to access my class right away but I have to wait for days, which is against their idealogy of "study at your own pace". This realization added with the part that they took my money without my permission, I decided to cancelled my account. They took me through 6 screens of questions that forced me to stay. In the last screen, they made me call them to cancel my account. After a long talk on the phone, they finally cancelled my account. But they REFUSED to refund my money. The academy representative told me that in order to get refund, I have to email their billing email (***@shawacademy.com). I emailed, and it been a week, I haven't hear anything back. The people on the phone still refuse to refund my money. They said that they do not have the power to return my money. My account is also still there. All my sensitive information include my name, date of birth, address and bank account are still there. They refuse to remove my account completely. This should be illegal.

Desired Outcome

I'm not only seeking for my account to be refund. but I also want Shaw Academy to remove my personal information include my bank account off their database. This is violation of person's rights. I need them to remove my account include all those information off their database and website after they refund my account.

I was charged for my account changing from a free trial to a full acount without contacting me, despite Shaw Academy stating they would reach out.
I signed up for a free trial of Shaw Academy (SA) on May 5, 2020. The free trial would last for 30 days, at which point the account would switch to a paid account, charging $69.99 USD. I browsed the SA platform but did not attend any classes. Soon after signing up I picked up a new client for my business, which took up my free time to use SA. I therefore paused my account and free trial on May 9, 2020. Email communication from SA clearly stated that they would contact me prior to my classes restarting and my full account being charged. This email has been attached for reference.

The account reactivated on June 9, 2020, and there was no communication of my account changing from free trial to the full account. There was also no communication of my classes restarting, my free trial resuming, or any other contact, despite the clear indication from SA that such communication would occur.

I was then charged $69.99 to my PayPal account on July 4, 2020, and that notice came from PayPal, not from SA. I have had no emails from SA other than the ones needed to sign up and the ones I have had with their customer service representativs.

I tried to go through the SA customer service process to cancel my account and get a refund. The account cancelling process was cumbersome, drawn-out, and looks to be intentionally designed to make cancellations difficult. A quick Google search shows that a number of others have had similar experiences, being denied refunds and having a predatory business model that charges users but does not communicate charges to them.

I therefore cancelled my subscription on PayPal instead, which is simple and intuitive. After cancelling my subscription through PayPal, I was contacted by a collections representative from SA asking to re-authorize payment. I declined and asked to begin the process of gaining a refund. I have emailed with three representatives, Sarah, Maggie, and Allen to try and get a refund but none will do so.

I have created a PayPal dispute case to attempt to get a refund. The ideal resolution would be to have SA refund me the full $69.99 through PayPal.

SA Account Email: ***@gmail.com
SA Request Number: XXXXXXX
Paypal Dispute Case: PP-I-XXXXXXXX
Payment Amount: $69.99 USD
Payment Method: PayPal account

Desired Outcome

The ideal resolution would be to have SA refund me the full $69.99 through PayPal.

I signed up for a free trial which was to have ended yesterday. I tried to cancel my account but was required to call a phone number. I called that phone number on 8/6 and spoke with Sodeeqah A. She tried to convince me to stick with the product, but I told her I was not interested. She confirmed multiple times that I would not be billed for the service, that my account had been cancelled. Today, my Paypal account was charged for services. This charge needs to be removed immediately and this practice needs to be stopped. It seems this has happened to multiple people.

Desired Outcome

I am requesting a full refund for this charge.

I signed up for Shaw Academy for a free month in July and then called and cancelled the next day. They charged me $69.99 on August 10, 2020.
I emailed them my complaint and sent them the information they asked for, but I just don't trust them. They requested a screenshot of my bank statement with the charge, my phone number and the last four numbers of my debit card (XXXX).

Desired Outcome

I would like my subscription cancelled and my $69.99 charge returned.

I signed up for a free trial. I cannot cancel online, they make confirm cancellation 5+ times and then insist I call a phone number to cancel.
I signed up for a free trial, thinking they had a class I was interested in. They do not. When I tried to cancel my membership, they force me to walk through multiple screens before I can cancel. The final screen asks to call a phone number with a reference number in order to process my cancellation. This is bad business practices.

Desired Outcome

I want them to cancel my membership and never call or email me again. If they could get dinged for bad business practices, I wouldn't complain either.

Over the weekend I was informed of my cancellation by email from their support team. However, I do believe they are practicing misleading and damaging business practices. So while I no longer need intervention with the company, I would like my complaint to stand as initially filed.

Shaw Academy is a scam and they stole $56.24 from me.
I signed up for a free trial with Shaw Academy, for their App Development course, through my Verizon account. By lesson 4, I recognized that the quality of the content is abysmal and that I was not actually going to learn anything about app development. At that point, I discontinued the lessons and set a calendar reminder to cancel the free trial before it ended. Turns out, amidst this global pandemic, I missed that deadline by one day. I reached out to let them know that I had no intention of taking any of their courses and asked for a refund. They refused. While I recognize their fine print, charging a person $56.24 for watching 4 recorded lessons is absolute piracy. This company is clearly a scam set up to bait and switch customers. If I am not refunded, I will use my personal social media, as well as those in my network, to sound the alarm on this scam of a company.

Desired Outcome

I would like a full refund back to OFOP immediately.

Continue being contacted despite unsubscribing several times and contacting customer service.
I purchased a Shaw Academy course and cancelled it prior to the course start date. Since then, I have been contacted repeatedly by several different numbers (many of which have been blocked now). I replied STOP several times, as directed, followed the link provided in the texts to unsubscribe myself, and have spoken to their customer service agents to be removed from their lists, yet I am still receiving multiple texts a day from Shaw Academy. I do not wish to be contacted by Shaw Academy and would not ever recommend anyone register for one of their courses unless they wish to be contacted repeatedly by this company.

Desired Outcome

I would like Shaw Academy to cease contact in any way moving forward. I do not wish to hear from them via text, phone call, email, or any other method whatsoever moving forward.
