Shaw Academy Reviews (2754)

I have been charged by Shaw academy on July 26th, for EUR 60,29+commissions without any reason. My account was no longer active since beginning of July
I was already charged once for 33 EUR when my subscription was still valid.
I complained and they told me that I did a One-click purchase and they could not refund me.

I did not renew the membership (expired on mid July), and never enter their platform since then.
On July 26th they charged me again for EUR 61 + bank commissions (to ONLINESACO*SHAW ACADE)
I have asked them explanations but this time I did not even get an answer.
I am very annoyed for how they stole my money.

Apart that they were calling me almost every day and sending me tons of emails and messages, trying to sell me their products. That was very annoying and I had to block them.

Desired Outcome

Full Refund of the charges since I have never asked to buy any material from them.

I want a refund also for the second charge of 61, for which I was charged with no reason at the end of July, when my subscription was already over.
Total refund has to be 100

I cancelled my 4 week trial prior to the ending and I still got billed.
I did the 4 week free trial with Shaw Academy. I Cancelled my subscription 2 days before the ending of my trial. I received an email confirming that my trial was cancelled. I noticed the card I had on file was trying to be charged for $32.99, however, I removed funds from that account, because I feared something like this happening. They dont give the option to remove your card, only change it. I needed to use that card, so I switched over to a PayPal account, but selected a card that was not in use until I was able to contact Shaw Academy, which I was never able to get ahold of anyone. They then pulled from a different account I have on PayPal when they realized that card was no good. I just want my refund of $32.99 and officially close this case.

Desired Outcome

I would like to be refunded

Hi ***,

We have reviewed your account and would like to bring to your attention that you had requested for the cancellation on 14 July, however the bill was generated on the same day before the cancellation was processed. Hence the system had tried to debit on the same day. Since the payment was declined on 14 July, the system has processed the charge again on the 31 July.

We would also like to inform you that your membership has been deactivated and your payment details have been deleted. We have also initiated a refund which will be credited back to the source in next 3-5 business days.

I receive my credit

I was charge 34.99 week 4 of my trial period which was said to be free.
I was charge 34.99 week 4 of my trial period which was said to be free. I was promised two day notice before it would end of that trial period so that I could decide whether or not I wanted to continue and I did not receive that. I also noticed that one of my classes had deliberately been pushed to a different date and during my third week I was only allowed to attend one of my classes and not allowed to attend the second class for the week. I even tried to reschedule the class so that would get my second class for the week. I received and email stating that the class had been rescheduled but it was not. It also states that I am able to find how much time remains for my trial period in my course Which is not there. There however an outline in the assignment section that shows for weeks of assignment and I only have access to three. I do have screen shots of this as well. I fully intended to cancel my course before the end of my fourth week and was not allowed to do so before I was charged $34.99 for my Nutrition and food Science course that trying. I feel this is a misrepresentation of what was guaranteed to me by Shaw Academy. Also the automated system even states Module one is the trial period and at the current time I have yet to complete it. After noticing the charge I immediately canceled my course and attempted to call Shaw Academy to inquire why I was charged and notice I could no longer reach a live person like I when I had problems at the start of my course.

Desired Outcome

I am requesting a refund of 34.99 that was charged to my account before the end of my trial period and for the manipulation of my course account by making my last classes inaccessible to me before the end of my trial period.

Shaw Academy Response • Aug 04, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
As advertised 4 weeks of Nutrition: Food Science and Menu planing is suppose the be free. There are even 4 weeks of course work listed in the first module. Also classes are two days a week. My card was charge the first day of my fourth week and I only received one day of class in week three with my second class day being cancelled on behalf of the company and was pushed to week four without my consent or for knowledge. This coveniently made week four have three classes and they were all on the same day and at the same time. When attempting to add my missing class back to week three I was sent an email stating the class was rescheduled but it was never changed in my account. I also attempted to find the section that Shaw Academy stated in the terms and condition is in the My Course section that shows how much time I had remaining in my trial period during week three and was unable to find this section. It shows in the terms and conditions that the trial is 28 days but the advertisement says 4 week which is more than 28 days. While signing up for this course I had access to a live person to handle any problems that may have arisen and once my card was charged the upon calling the menu options were changed and I no longer had access to a live person. I was also advised during signup that I would be informed two days prior to the end of my subscription about its expiration which would allow me to make an informed decision on whether or not I wanted to continue my studies with Shaw Academy and I did not receive that notice. I feel that Shaw Academy needs to adhere to there promises and also stop false advertising its trial period. Allow people to make an informed decision on their future pursuits should be with the company without all the smoke and mirrors. If it is a four week course and you intend to charge the student at day 29 but they will continue to have access to the entire four week course then that is what should be advertised. There isn't any information listed in the terms and conditions stating whether or not the course will continue after cancelation before 28 days or loose the remaining days in the course. The student is then left to wonder whether or not they would be allowed to finish the four weeks. Again people deserve transparency. So no the response of Shaw Academy provided does not satisfy me in anyway.

Thank you for taking a deeper look and resolving the issue.

Shaw academy billed my card without my authorization.
Shaw academy billed my credit card under false pretense. The Project management class offered was free for four weeks and it was indicated that Shaw academy would notify me before it went ahead and billed the credit card. I attended for four weeks only and stopped attending, however, Shaw Academy went ahead and billed my card on July 20, 2020 without my authorization.

This is fraud and should not be accepted.

Desired Outcome

I am seeking a refund for the $69.99 debited from my account on July 20, 2020.

I started a free 4 week trial with Shaw academy and wasn't able to do my classes on their app so I canceled my subscription.
After canceling my subscription I thought the everything was done. Then on 07/31/20 they charged my card 69.99. I then look through my transactions and found another payment to them for 39.95 on 07/03/20 before I even canceled the free trial. I've reached out to both their support email and billing email and I got one reply saying they can't refund me. They're just stealing money from me then? This is absurd. I keep emailing them and they continue to ignore me.

Desired Outcome

My refund totaling $109.94

On July 24, 2020, I subscribed to a trial Shaw academy membership, the same day I canceled and was charged the full fee of $69.99.
On July 24, 2020, I subscribed to a trial Shaw academy membership, and that same evening I call a representative to cancel my membership, stated: "I have a habit of not canceling memberships on time." My representative assured me that would not be a problem and as a perk she would extend my trial and "gift me" with a free toolbox and certificate. On the first of August, I was notified by my credit card company that my account was being charged with an interest fee concerning the charge of $69.99. The very large very sudden amount of $69.99 on July 24, 2020. The start date of my trial they charged me! Right after my conversation in which their representative assured me I wouldn't be charged, they charged me! Before my trial end date (in breach of their own contract) they charged me! I received no emails to correspond with the transaction. Nothing in my spam, nothing in my inbox, no emails stating that I was given this or paid for that. Just a penny shy of $70 slipped out of my account!

Desired Outcome

I want the $69.99 back on my credit card, plus my name and information removed from their files.

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)

Cancelled free trial one day after starting, phone call convinced me to extend trial, employee said I could access with no charge.
I signed up for their free trial. I then checked my account page and saw that the trial would be over quickly and immediately cancelled online. A couple of days later, a rude employee contacted me with an accusatory tone and guilted me into reactivating the trial. She said that she'd extend it to a month, and that I could access the first two modules of my class at no cost. I specifically asked her, "So you guarantee that there will be no charges until after the trial period?" and she replied in the affirmative.

However, the time for the first module of my class came around, so I accessed it at the scheduled time. Afterward I checked my bank account, and the last $70 I had to my name were gone. My account was drained by a $69.99 charge from this company. I looked at my Shaw Academy account, and it still said "In Trial".

I e-mailed their refund department, and they told me that I was charged because I accessed my first module when the woman on the phone very plainly said that I would be able to complete the first two modules at no cost.

Now because they robbed me of my last money, I can't afford to dispute the charge with my bank, which charges a $15 fee for an investigation that won't even guarantee a positive result.

There are THOUSANDS of testimonials of similar experiences online. Business review websites have actually added a disclaimer on this company's page that say tell users that customers are being influenced to leave false positive reviews, so the information on these sites is no longer reliable. So many consumers have had unauthorized charges on their account while still on a free trial.

TrustPilot says "We have found out that this company has been inviting customers to leave reviews in a biased way, for example, selectively targeting only customers who are happy with their services. This company has also asked customers who left negative reviews to delete them or change them to positive reviews. We have also detected that this company has been reporting reviews in a biased way, for example by reporting all or most of their negative reviews and/or repeatedly reporting reviews that don't contravene our Guidelines for Reviewers. Further, this company's use of Trustpilot's branding on its site has been misleading. The company has not been displaying the most up to date ratings, TrustScore or reviews on their website at shawacademy.com."

Please investigate this company and their fraudulent activity.

Desired Outcome

A refund of my $69.99 to my bank account, since it was an unauthorized charge that the employee told me would not occur during my free trial.

Charged for subscription after cancellation.
I signed up for a "free month" subscription trial and then cancelled this a day later on 6 July (a few days later). I received an email from a "George" to say that this had been cancelled that I would not be charged.

I have since been charged $69.99 and I cannot get any response from Shaw when I have asked for a refund and for my membership to actually be cancelled.

Desired Outcome

I would like an immediate refund and confirmation that my account will actually be cancelled as previously promised. I would like a guarantee that I will not be charged again.

Credit card charge for a free 4-week course I canceled after 2 days
I signed up for a FREE 4-week course on Graphic Design last 13 July. I canceled on 15 July. I checked my credit card today, I show a charge from Shaw Academy Hampshire GB, amounting to local currency PHP500.

Desired Outcome

I want the amount they charged to my credit card refunded. They had no authority to charge that amount, they advertised a FREE 4-week course for Graphic Design, and I canceled after only two days.

Unsolicited charge to my credit card-monthly subscription fee.
I use their 30-day trial to see the courses they offered and realized I was not interested. No later than a week later I cancelled my subscription. I went through their phone tree for about 10 minutes and confirmed multiple times that I wanted to cancel my subscription. That was June.

In July I realized that they haven't charged my credit card anyway. I reached out to dispute this, and have not gotten a response and over six days.

I just want a refund of the charge that I never consented to. This company is happy to ignore me and steal my money.

Desired Outcome

I just want a refund and want nothing to do with this slimy company again.

Unfortunately, Shaw Academy seems to only acknowledge me thought your portal. They were to call me ASAP, and have yet to in over four days. I don't trust that they'll get back to me unless it's through my complaint. I appreciate your patience on this while I try to get some traction...

My bank has sent me a new credit card due to Shaw Academy's fraudulent activity. As such I will not give them my new credit card number for the purposes of a refund. They abused my previous credit card's number, and I strongly believe that they will fraudulently charge my new one as well.

Considering the above, I will accept my refund via cheque, or PayPal only.

Thank you

The scoundrels refunded me thanks to you involvement.

Thank you.

False advertising unlawful billing business practice.
I signed up for the free 4 week trial class but after reading all the complaints of how this company will charge your card and not let you cancel I decided to cancel my subscription before my free trial would end. I went on the app and proceeded with canceling my subscription only to come across the last screen that told me to call the number displayed if I want to cancel my subscription, when I called that number it says the number is not in service. I emailed them on X-X-XXXX stating that I want to cancel my subscription and that I still have 3 days left in my free trial and that I do not want them to charge my credit card. I'm still awaiting confirmation from them that they have canceled my subscription. If they charge my card I will dispute this charge since I have all the evidence that that I contacted them in time to cancel my subscription. Shaw Academy only cares to make money and make it impossible to cancel the subscription.

Desired Outcome

I am seeking that they cancel my subscription and account and to not charge my credit card.

Shaw Academy is not responding to my emails and complains addressed to them. I did not do any purchases to their products but charged using my card.
My student number is XXXXX and I am now in a Trial Account in Shaw Academy. Last July 07, 2020 my card got debited with 60AUD from Shaw Academy. I did not made any purchases or even allowed this transaction. I am asking for a refund but they did not respond. I wanted to end my Trial Account but I cannot reach their customer service hotline.

I noticed they have a "ONE-CLICK" PURCHASE button in user panel and I was thinking I might accidentally clicked it. But this kind of purchase button is taking advantage for the users because anyone can accidentally click it. This scheme is illegal. I can't even see in my user panel how many days left for my trial. Everything is disadvantageous to the users and they keep calling you for advertising and marketing.

Please Refund the money you charged me. I did not authorised that transaction and I dont need the Module eCertificate. And please cancel my membership/trial account.

I have attached the receipt.

Desired Outcome

Refund the amount they charged me which I did not authorised. Cancel my membership and trial account. Do not contact me again for advertising and marketing.

Cancelled my subscription before the trip period expired but as still charged.
I joined Shaw Academy on the offer of a free trial run for 4 week free with the promise that if I cancel my subscription before the trial ends I wouldn't be charged any amount.

I attended two classes and a webinar then concluded the service was not for me. I then cancelled my subscription within the promised "4 weeks free trial" through calling the telephone number provided by Shaw Academy.

I didn't speak to any agents from their side but instead my call was processed by an automated telephone program which completed the cancellation which was confirmed by an email I received later that day.

Desired Outcome

I would like my money back (refund) on the condition that I cancelled my subscription but the trial ended. Also be removed from your billing list as my dashboard shows a next billing dated and that I am an active member.

Refund initiated, so I accept

Shaw Academy processed an unauthorized charge on my Paypal account for services I did not purchase when I logged in to cancel my free trial.
I signed up for a Shaw Academy free trial July 30, 2020. I decided to cancel my free trial subscription August 2nd. I then noticed an unauthorized charge of $49.99 to my Paypal account on August 2, 2020. I DID NOT click on any services for purchase, I have not requested or ordered any digital products, nor have I upgraded to a paid subscription. I have also not accessed any extra services or digital products, as can be seen on my account by Shaw Academy. I logged onto the account for the sole purpose of cancelling the free trial. I immediately called the number provided but the only way to reach them is through email. This appears to be fraudulent and I have not received a refund for this unauthorized charge to my account nor have I received any reply. I have emailed them through their PayPal account disputing the charge and cancelled my subscription as well as disputed the charge directly through their website.

Desired Outcome

Refund in the amount of $49.99 to my Paypal account for the unauthorized/unlawful charge to my account for subscriptions/products not purchased or accessed, on August 2, 2020.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The response received from Shaw Academy on August 4th suggests that I have purchased a module toolkit, and thus charged $49.99. I logged on to my free trial account on August 2nd to cancel the subscription. The evening of August 2nd I received notification of a charge to my Paypal after going through the cancellation process. Shaw academy is therefore suggesting that I authorized payment for the purchase of a toolkit for an account which I had cancelled. I have not received any toolkit, e-products nor have I accessed any toolkit on a Free-trial account which I cancelled. Furthermore, on August 4th I received confirmation by email from Shaw Academy that my trial was cancelled, and the email said I could still purchase the toolkit or e-certificate. This is the same toolkit that I was supposed to have purchased as claimed by Shaw Academy through their Revdex.com response to my claim on August 4th. This company appears to be fraudulent. I have attached the email received by Shaw Academy stating that I can still purchase the item that they claimed I had previously purchased, which I did not. I am seeking a full refund of the $49.99 to my Paypal account for an item that Shaw Academy acknowledges is still available for purchase on my account.

I tried to cancel my trial membership and it literally will not let me.
After many prompts as I attempted to cancel my membership, I was told to call a number and enter my student ID which I have from the cancellation page. The phone system says my student ID is invalid (and I know it is not) and I have no way to reach a real person.

Desired Outcome

I would just like to cancel my free trial.

Shaw Academy Response • Aug 04, 2020

Hi ***, We are sorry to let you down with this experience. However, we would surely want to help you with the same, As per your request, We have gone ahead and canceled your subscription going forward you will not be receiving any dedication or notification with regards to this issue.

Signed up for a free trial of one of their courses, then accidentally touched a button to get a toolkit than I didn't want. Wouldn't refund.
I didn't like the format of the courses and asked to cancel and refund $39.99 purchase price for a toolkit I accidentally ordered and didn't want. I never downloaded the toolkit and sent my cancellation letter and request for refund within 5 minutes of purchase.

To place the toolkit purchase in an area where people might accidentally touch as I did, seems very deceptive. I would like a refund for $39.99 and cancellation of my subscription. I think that part has already been taken care of.

Desired Outcome

Refund $39.99

The purchase was accidental, and I never downloaded the product. They can easily disable that on their end.
Placing the one-click button in the middle of the page where it can easily br touched accidentally is just a scam.

Signed up for a "free" class on photography advertised through Instagram. Entered my information to access it. Weeks later I am charged for this class
I fall for the advertisement of a free photography class on instagram, trying to better myself during the quarantine. It touts itself as great for both beginners and experienced people looking to expand their business. Class is basic photo 101 garbage, info you can find in a manual, the app you are forced to access it with is garbage, class does not play at all on computer. I quickly abandon this class, as it's a 4-week free class, 2 a week, there's no way they're getting into anything of use to me despite harassing me through email and phone every time I'm even 5 minutes late to a clearly (poorly) prerecorded lecture to be quizzed by an AI afterwards. Cut to month later, where I find I am now being charged for this class. They had charged me earlier, when I entered my info to access the account, an innocuous little 50(c) charge. I made it absolutely clear I wasn't paying for this class, and had them refund it, however they keep advertising course materials I have to pay for, and remind me that I had to buy my diploma, which also contributed to me abandoning the class. But now I'm charged $34.99 for this garbage I had already learned by reading my camera's manual, which sent me into an overdraft, and since I'm on a limited budget, I might not be able to afford the compound charges my bank is saddling me with. But, convenient for Shaw Academy, they can just dodge my emails and convince PayPal I consented to being charged.

Desired Outcome

I need my money refunded. That's all I'm asking for. I will not take it in class credit, or "services". I made it absolutely clear I was not paying for your free class, and you charged me regardless.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Regardless of your intent, you have upset me quite a bit by charging me 34.99 with your predatory system, which put me into debt with my bank. Your class was advertised as a "Free 4 Week Course" , which is different than your claim of it being advertised as "4 weeks of a course for free". The advertising of this as such inherently relies on people not assuming your course will charge them, and then not fighting back when you do. The horror stories I've read online frequently include people claiming you surreptitiously renewing their already canceled memberships, frequently people have to delete their entire card because you guys just keep re-upping them without their permission. I can also attest to having canceled it, then the very next morning my membership was suspiciously un-canceled, whether that was due to intentional malfeasance or simply a side effect of your app being poorly-programmed garbage, I can never know.
So, you can continue to hide behind your predatory terms of service, and earn an enemy who will sing your sins to everyone who will listen, a number increasing rapidly, or you can refund the money you have, in all moral honesty, stole from me. Your class, which was also advertised as "for all levels of expertise" was beginner-level garbage one gets before even Photo 101 class, literally the first two weeks should have been consolidated into one lesson it was so basic. You also advertised live teacher support, which would have been difficult if the classes weren't prerecorded, but even then you had an AI do it for you. Your class was significantly not as advertised, and thus you do not deserve the money I shouldn't have been charged in the first place. It's also worth noting that I tried to reach out about a week ago, via email and PayPal, but you refused to respond until I brought in the Revdex.com.

I asked for a refund and wanted to cancel and they never responded to any email. They seem like a scam and trust pilot says they bought their reviews.
Transaction XXXXXX-XXXXXX

I tried to dispute this transaction because I was charged after I cancelled. I sent various emails on 5th of February 2020 and no one responded.

I would like a refund.

Desired Outcome

Refund my money for the unauthorized transaction.

I tried to cancel my account, info given to do so is erroneous and believe this is a fraud case.

I tried to cancel my account after seeing another $69.99 charge for something I'm not using and thinking this amount was for 3 months, not one.

To my surprise... the online cancellation process (through multiple screens of "are you sure you want to cancel" led me to a phone number required to call to cancel. Another surprise... your system wouldn't accept my student ID #. I now believe this to be fraudulent and have filed a dispute with my bank - noting my inability to cancel at all and no other means of contact, but this email address that I could find the terms and conditions.

My member/student ID, according to the website, is XXXXX.

Desired Outcome

I have filed a dispute with my bank in an attempt to keep the current pending charge from taking place/going through. However, now that I believe this to be a fraudulent business practice on the part of Shaw Academy, and I have not used the service since before the first charge, I am seeking a refund of the first $69.99 charge.

Hi ***,

We are sorry to hear you were less than satisfied with Shaw Academy. We have reviewed your account and noticed that you have registered with us on 5 June. Since you failed to cancel your account within the trial period, the system has auto renewed your account and charged for the subscription. The auto renewal process is clearly mentioned in the terms and condition that you initially agreed to.
Please be aware that Shaw Academy charges are based on the subscription and not on student's usage basis. We request you to email us at ***@shawacademy.com for further assistance.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
They have reached out to me and canceled my membership and offered 6 months free. I appreciate it. However, what I am not satisfied with is that I tried to cancel but could not because their system provided a student/member ID that was not recognized through the ONLY cancellation process offered - via automated phone system. Had I not threatened to go to the Revdex.com and report them, I'm not sure I could ever have canceled my account.

They need to change this method of cancellation... at least 6 web pages trying to get you to not cancel and an erroneous student/member ID where I could never cancel.

You can consider this closed after this message.
