Swap.com Reviews (563)

Swap.com is a hugely misrepresented brand whose beginnings were good in that their prices were very low and one could get a good deal on namebrand clothing especially children's. Sellers could easily swap with one another without exchanging money, hence the name of the company.
All is this has changed dramatically and rapidly for the worse over the last 6 months. Most sellers have had half boxes of their items " bulk rejected" for no valid reason.. flawless and either NWT or like new condition. Responses to inquiries concerning this have been met with vague nonspecific generalities thst leave the questions asked unanswered. We sellers feel like we are playing Russian roulette when we send stuff in as swap doesn't even follow their own guidelines and it's anybody's guess what the"trained for a week"( as per CEO of swap)merchandiser will accept or reject based on how close or far away he/she is from meeting their daily quota of items they must process. With 60 day processing backlogs even after a summer freeze, bulk rejecting has been swap's way of moving through the excess selker's items to get the queue time down to its current two week time.
Items are not placed in proper categories ( i.e. woman's tops are listed as little girls, clearly boys shorts are listed as baby girls etc. Sets are allowed but merchandisers break them up when set in pinned , tagged or bagged together with attached notes stating" DO NOT SEPARATE" .This is done to maximize the $1.50 per item charge which swap gets less since a set of 3 items together is a single $1.50 charge.
Sellers items get lost in their warehouse, soiled or dirtied and unless you supply your own insurance as a seller you have no recourse as per their TOS.
It is hard for sellers to compete with swap's account of almost 800, 000 items. They raise their prices to almost double what they tell us sellers to list them as and then have daily sales featuring ONLY their own account items which bring the prices of their items back down . Individual sellers items are never seen in browsing by potential buyers because of all of swap's exclusive sales of their own account items which completely swamp out any other sellers items by their sheer volume. Unless someone specifically searches for a brand, size color etc your stuff will not be seen and won't sell unless the price gets lowered to a ridiculous low thereby producing a whopping 60 cent profit. In addition , Swap.com has even implemented a new policy as of sept 1,2016 where if your item does not sell in 60 days swap now gets to take control of pricing your item for you.
Swap will offer sellers a sure sell price ( a guaranteed sale of your item to swap for up to 30% of the new retail value of the item). Perhaps swap has had a sale or two like that but all of the sure sell price offers we sellers have seen are more like 0.5%-5% max!Again very deceptive marketing. That is from the selling end... now for the buying end.
If you buy from swap expect to wait at least a week for your order to arrive. NEVER ever buy from swap.com's own account although it is enticing with their daily sales . Items listed in good condition often have hidden stains , holes etc that are not visible in the listing photo. They use the wrinkles in the clothing to their advantage and let the wrinkles hide stains. On several occasions I purchased an item that looked perfect in the photo but they often only show the front photo for a kids clothing item and the back which is not shown will be badly stained .Sometimes you can get a refund to your [redacted] account but most of the time now you are left with store credit , courtesy of another of swap's recent downward spiral changes.I have also bought items that are completely different brands from the one listed. Swap's merchandisers are clearly overworked , underpaid, undertrained and barely supervised if at all with zero accountability.
As far as actually swapping on swap.com the CEO has said they are doing away with that aspect as it is not a money maker and customer service has also confirmed that.Swap doesn't appear that to be in any hurry to change the name of the company even though it no longer reflects or represents their brand . Swap.com's homepage has 4 links to news & media venues under "As seen on" that you can click on and read a no longer relevant story about all the fun , convenience and profit of swapping and selling on swap.com. These are ALL from several years ago where they did represent the swap brand. Now it is like reading about a foreign imposter that is unrelated to the monopolistic greedy monster they have become.
You will waste your time and money by sending in items where swap keeps increasing the postage while decreasing the maximum box size and allowable poundage.
Swap also plays by their own rules .
They say that we still own the items we send in but would list our items.. the same exact ones we list on swap.com they would list on [redacted] at inflated prices without our knowledge or permission and when they sell on [redacted] would give us the profit percentage based on the lower price of the same item listing in the swap.com site. After confronting swap.com on this , swap 's CEO suspended any new listings of sellers items on [redacted] and changed their TOS to make it very vague and all encompassing so this sort of thing would be perceived as permissible legally.
Swap.com has no current venue on their site for sellers to interact with each other or with buysers. There is no way to get specific questions about items answered and emails to customer service often go unanswered.
Often the only way we can get answers to questions or confront issues is by way of commenting on swap's [redacted] page although even then your answer will depend on who's monitoring the page at the time and can be the exact opposite of the swap staff who answered the question by phone.
In summary , swap has grown too fast for its ability and is treating sellers as disposable entities after they're used to supply the inventory to keep the site stocked . Their rules keep changing and are often left open for interpretation especially as to their acceptance criteria and swap doesn't even follow their own rules they enforce on everyone else .
Although they serve the market in the sense they will take the photo, store your item ship it for you and figure out the payment , the extremely low profit margin and extremely high level of work and stress that has to go into having all your listing corrected make it no longer worth it.
If you are on swap.com and want other sellers to interface with , discuss issues, brainstorm ideas and alternatives, then search [redacted] groups for sellers/buyers forum for swap.com and ask to join!!

Excellent company to do business with. I was beyond excited when I found a used clothing store online. The clothes all arrive clean and in separate plastic packaging. I have ordered several times and have never been disappointed with the quality. Customer service is great too!

Phenomenal place to shop and sell and swap ;) I've purchased many boxes and LOVE my clothes!! Oh..and toys and clothes... I've returned as well and NO Issues! Love it!
