US Student Loan Services Inc Reviews (241)

In May 2014 I completed a Masters in Leadership from Cornerstone University. A month before graduating from seminary I was worried about my previous student loan debt at Michigan State University 2000'and Cambridge College 2004'. While in undergrad I was on partial scholarship and qualified for a program to pay for most of my debt. Even with scholarships I still carried a large student loan balance. I began researching student loan cancellation programs and contacted a friend of mine named Lori Mead USSLS. She was an angel sent from heaven. She told me with all the things I have done as an educator, coach and minister I qualified for a program that would substantially reduce my student loans by 90% . I went from paying $358.00 a month to now currently paying $135.00 a month over a ten year period. Which is a total of $12000 which can be paid off faster than ten years. This number is a mere fraction to what I previously owed. If you are in debt with Sallie mae or any bank for student loan debt and you feel that you deserve to be debt free. Or you know someone that needs help USSLS can change your financial future.

Review: I spoke to them regarding student loan consolidation. I spoke with a gentleman who is no longer with the company and he advised me that I did not need to "consolidate" since the loans were all with the same company but could go to an income based repayment plan. We needed to sign some paper work and mail to the federal government which we never did because we went on vacation and I had some additional questions. When we returned from vacation we had a letter from the government stating that the consolidation was all set up and was waiting for my approval. So I called USSLS back and asked how this could have gone through already when we didn't even send the paper work in? They didn't have an answer for that. I also found out that the income based payment plan is something that can be set up through the government on our own, and doesn't need any third party help. When I tried to speak to them about how the sales guy (who doesn't work there anymore) gave me a round about sales pitch about the income based program and not consolidating and I was mislead, all they could say is you signed the contract. When I tried to explain to them that I didn't even send the government the required paper work needed to proceed with it, they didn't have an answer. I asked them to refund my money for basically selling me something that was not really needed when specifically asked for me, they told me since they processed the paper work, which really wasn't anything because I had to mail it back to the government, they didn't really process anything, that they would not refund my money. This company misleads unsuspecting people down a road they do not have to take, since most student loans are housed through the government, students can do it on there own by simply getting in touch with the government.Desired Settlement: I will be calling the government tonight to cancel this "consolidation" and also let them know about this company, and that there are misleading people and taking advantage of unsuspecting people. If they continue to refuse to refund I will be seeking legal action.

Regarding: Revdex.com Case #[redacted]

Thank you for notifying us of a client who was not satisfied with the services provided by our company. Upon review of the client file we have found no instance of service error on behalf of USSLS and further have reviewed the information provided by the Revdex.com and found in accurate statements made from the unsatisfied client. However, we found our counselor could have been more detailed in his communication.

USSLS has a 100% money back guarantee and upon receipt of written request this claim would have been completely avoided. We have personally reached out to the client via a phone call and an email letting the client know he would receive a refund and that no further actions would be taken on his account.

Additionally, we have informed the client more in depth on the consequence of cancelation of the IBR consolidation. Upon cancelation they are no longer eligible for the Public Loan Forgiveness Program, which was the main motivation for consolidation.

The client responded to our email with the following response:

Thank you for your help in this matter I just felt that we were mislead in the whole matter. I appreciate your understanding in this matter

In addition, the counselor who was responsible for helping our client with their consolidation process is no longer employed by USSLS. Upon review of the phone conversations that lead up to the client taking action we found that our counselor was not as detailed as he could have been. Our application is very specific and explains all the details of consolidation, however, many clients do not fully read the application and we rely upon our counselors to ensure they educate the client appropriately.

We take responsibility for not being as thorough as we could have been and have added additional quality control measures to ensure accurate communication with our clients.

Please note, this complaint has been 100% fully remedied, with timely response and further we have taken internal measures to ensure we avoid a similar situation in the future.

We thank you for your commitment to helping businesses stay committed to the highest level of customer satisfaction.

Sincerely,

USSLS Management

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me. I will wait for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.

Regards,

Very happy with the service and the help provided

Review: The contract between the aforementioned company and myself was that with the fee that I paid, as long as I did not earn more than $16,000 a year they would take care of my student loan payments. As of today, my student loan lender has had no communication with the company and are charging me for the past months. I have been unemployed for a while now and was not expecting to have to pay for my student loan. I have tried communicatin with the company via telephone to no avail. I am obviously behind in my student loan payments which is affecting my credit even further.Desired Settlement: I would like to be refunded the $499 charged by this company. I have no interest in making business with them anymore as it seems they took the money and ran.

This file was researched immediately upon notification. USSLS contacted client on 3/30/15 and refunded their document preparation fees. The US Postal Office, lost the package that was sent to PR, USSLS offered to complete the documents and resend at no charge. The client received the refund on 4/6/2015 by check mailed priority mail to PR. See the confirmation below.

This USSLS Company is a Joke a scam, to put it simply doing business with them is like Paying a company to download ITunes to your computer for free, then paying Apple after the fact for songs... Don't be an uniformed consumer, get out of debt by being informed and aware of your situation.

You DO NOT need to pay Any company to consolidate your federal student loan debt....

DO NOT PAY for this service, as they literally do nothing. All USSLS has done for me is fill out the electronic application for debt consolidate that exists online for company (GreatLakes)the I already have loans through. Who which by the way is also a poor company to do business with. Impersonal, lack in willingness to assist with my inquires, excessive "processing / filling" fees, which is also a total joke.

Review: The company claimed they would cancel my student loan w/Navient and reissue me a loan w/lower payments. I continued to get charged by Navient and US Student loan help. When I called to complain & demand a refund as well as cancellation of their program, they told me to put my request in writing. So I did and then sent me an email stating they would cancel my program but refused a refund. I threatened to report them to Revdex.com & they got testy & rude. I also learned that they are fraudulent in that they tell you they will lower your payment to $49 but what really is going on is they lower your payment to zero and charge $49 a month service fee which I learned after the fact in addition to the service fee of $199 upfront. If I couldn't afford my student loan, I certainly can't afford unnecessary student fees.Desired Settlement: I would like all the service charges refunded. I have already reported them to my bank.

I was referred to USSLH to process my loan forgiveness paper work. I was told initially that I was going to be charged a one time fee of $99.00. then I was told according to my income and the amount due on my loans that I will be charged an additional $600.00, and this fee was for the duration of the loan forgiveness. Fast forward on December 15, 2015 they took out $199.99 from my account then on the 12/24/15 they took out $39.00 for service fee. I contacted the company got a lot of run around until finally sending an email and a manager returned my call. she was willing to remove the 39 dollars but said I will be on my own and in a year I would need to pay $700 for their service. This caused me to research the company and found out that many customers were also mislead. I would like to have the $230.00 be return to my account. I am not asking for the $99.00 for the initial payment. I called and ask for a refund and was refused a refund because of a document she said I signed. still waiting for a copy. Due to the fact that I was misinformed I would like to get refunded.

Review: Applied for loan repayment plan. Was quoted that I would have $0 monthly payment. Signed the form agrreing to this. Paperwork for final contract was mailed to me and the monthly payment was more around $200 monthly. I immediately called and canceled this service, since this was not the amount we agreed on. Company now harrassing me with phone calls and emails threatening to ruin my credit if I don't pay an additional $700 for their services. This company does not have my loan, they did not process the paperwork or do anything for me.Desired Settlement: I do not want to be contacted and I do not want them attempting to collect this money any longer.

Client engaged USSLS for it's document preparation services on 12/15/2014. Based on the information provided, income, loan types and family size, client does qualify for a $0 monthly payment towards her loans. USSLS prepared the documents necessary to complete the consolidation and place client in appropriate program. Completed client packet was mailed to and received by client on 12/20/2014.

Very efficient and effective manner in which my case was handled. Very professional.

Review: I would like to request a full refund for all monies paid to USSLS. Upon signing up I was told that my loan payment would be $36 per month. I was also advised to submit my tax return from 2013 to ensure that lower monthly payment. As requested, I sent all documentation to USSLS. I come to find out in November that my Fed loans are past due over almost $1000. Upon speaking with Fed Loan servicing my student loan IBR was not correctly processed. I was not notified by USSLS that I needed to submit any alternative documentation. Upon speaking with a representative at USSLS I was informed that I needed to submit my 2014 return instead, and that the cut off date for submitting a 2013 tax return was back in March. I now need to go back and re-do this process on my own. It is unacceptable that something I paid for in March, and have had a service fee debited from my account since then, has not been appropriately used and services rendered in a professional and timely manner. Please refund my money.Desired Settlement: Refund sent to my new address

Review: On August 26, 2015 I sign an agreement with USSLS that explained a charge of $696 for “preparing a document and account set up” plus $39.00/ monthly fee for a “client benefit program”. On September 22, I send a request through their online form for an update status. They answer that the document that I send was received on Sep 14 and it generally take 3-4 weeks to process the request to consolidate. Today Oct 6 I submitted another request to cancel the agreement of $39.00 since I was never told until when I have to pay this. They canceled the fee and told me that I wont received help with any paperwork from now on. I also ask the representative if the agreement can be canceled or the money can be refunded, she told me no, just like the agreement says ( I have 3 days). So I called the FedLoan Servicing who is consolidating my loan to learn more about the status…since their answer was unsatisfied. They told me that it didn’t pass because I needed 2 references (that I provided) and they didn’t receive the tax statement (that I send). So I needed to call directly to the FedLoan to understand what was the REAL STATUS OF THE LOAN CONSOLIDATION…I understand that this was the answer that USSLS was suppose to give me, their job is to maintained a transparent and clear communication of what is going on. They have failed. I have to work out directly with FEDLOANS to continue the process of consolidation without the help of USSLS.

I am requesting a full refund of the documentation fee that I paid $298 plus that $39 of this “ client benefit program” that didn’t help at all plus I have to re send all of this paperwork again.Desired Settlement: I am requesting a full refund of the documentation fee that I paid $298 plus that $39 of this “ client benefit program” that didn’t help at all plus I have to re send all of this paperwork again, because it didnt get through.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. This is a very generic response. I have canceled the credit card payments and they just send me an email that they are making the attempt to charge the rest of the money. Below is the email send by [redacted] today October 20, 2015.

Review: I contacted this company to consolidate my student loan debt. I am currently working with a debt consolidation company that has helped me greatly and the lady ([redacted]) that was initially helping me represented her company as similar to the other company I used. After she ran my income information I was promised a payment. After going through the contract and getting all the numbers in order I was shifted to a secondary company where I was put through another approval process. I was never in any way shape or form told I would have to be subject to their approval process. I was promised one thing and delivered another. Now I was never back in contact with [redacted] I was shifted to [redacted] and [redacted]'s number has been disconnected. I was in limbo after the paperwork was put in place. For 3 months I heard nothing till I finally called and was told that my payment was over 700 dollars, after explaining the facts of the case Great Lakes which is the secondary company told me that USSLH has no right to promise any repayment plans and that they are a fraudulent company. Now of course they will not put this in writing and I am unable to provide the names of the two people I spoke with. So in short the company promised the moon, took my money, delivered a rock and will not refund my money and the bank can not help me recuperate the costs.Desired Settlement: I want my money back plain and simple. This is fraud and theft.

Hello [redacted],

Review: After hearing about loan consolidation I was curious to find out more about the details of the process. Upon researching student loan consolidation I came across USSLS and gave them a call. The employee I talked to mislead me into believing that the company was a loan forgiveness company. The employee informed me that being a teacher for a public school, I qualified for loan forgiveness after 10 years or 20 years depending on the hours I worked. Never did the employee mention that I was able to apply for this program directly for free and without a third party. Had I been directed to talk to someone directly from FedLoan I would have been notified that consolidating loans was not smart for me and would indeed Increase my overall interest rate. This is all key information when dealing with loan consolidation which , upon talking to FedLoan , I have learned is irreversible. I am now stuck with a higher interest rate on my student loans, with a longer pay period and I have been charged $696 dollars to pay this price. The issue I have with this company is that they are not just a document preparation company as they say they are, they are a company taking advantage of students and taking their money for a process that is supposed to be free in order to help students. The least I would like is a full refund for the $696 dollars that I was charged.Desired Settlement: A full refund of the charged $696 dollars.

Review: I was told by USSLS(USSLH) that my loans can be consolidated based on my income which is zero and that my monthly payment would be 39.00, and after 20 years the loan could be forgiven. I had a phone conversation where I was to pay one payment of 75.00 and 3 payments of 149.00 (each payment being charged every two weeks.) It was to my understanding that my student loan payment would be 39.00 starting in August. After further review of the second contract I received it states that the 39.00 I was quoted monthly is for a service from them. I was not told that by the rep that I was enrolling into a program with USSLS On 7/31/2015 a payment was trying to be charged to my credit card in the about of 174.00, looking at the contract which I was sent again on 07/31/2015 it says it says 173.00. When I reached out to them the only thing I was told is that "you signed a contract and you agreed. No assistance at all was offered to help me resolve this matter. I called all of my student loan creditors and was told by each one (3) NO request has been received for loan consolidation and also I did not need to go through a third party to do a loan consolidation application. I was never told by USSLS that I could do the application on my own. I feel that I am being misled to believe that my loans will be paid off, although further looking at the contract it says that they do not consolidate loans or pay loans off however I received an email saying that my loans will be paid off within 30-90 days. I am extremely upset and feel that I was just led to believe my loans would be taken care and my payments would be lowered. I also believe the company can make money off of me because I am struggling and in dire need of assistance with my student loans. If they would have just been honest with me I would have never used this service. Basically they are charging be for a service that has not been provided and want to continue to charge me monthly for add'l l services not mentioned to meDesired Settlement: I would like to be let out of the scam since I was never told that this was a service that I could have done on my own., with being hassled in the future. I would like a refund of the 3 payments of 149.00 each and 1 payment of 75.00 which was charged to my credit card. I would also like to cancel any business services with them at all now and in the future.

Review: I found about US Student Loans Services through an email and I called the number. I spoke to a representative of USSLS and I told her my situation, and I was told that all my student loans were going to be consolidated and it turned out that I'd be paying 39.00 dollars a month for something like 300 months(25 years!). So immediately I'm met with a $99.00 application fee to get started. I'm taken to another call to listen to a quick recorded message which I am told by the representative to agree to whatever it says. I get another phone call confirming my address to send in packets containing forms which I wasn't too sure about and the overall service at this point has been unclear, but I sent the packets back. Then, a week later, I'm getting phone calls back to back. (Mind you, when I'm at work) and after about a day and a half, I find out I was charged 199.00, taken straight out of my bank account, no phone calls or anything confirming that payment.

So far, I've already been charged 199.00 three times, and since there was basically no chance for me to discuss with them appropriate payment times, no communication over the matter what so ever, or even as much as a status call, and the payments have been brutal, coming on an already skimpy income, that I've got to stretch out thin, and this is the straw that brakes the camels back, and I believe I've been lied to.

What was so unclear to me after speaking with her on the phone that day, was if I am paying student loans back, or just paying them for the services OF setting up the consolidation my loans; a service, that which I have come into knowledge can be done for free. So, naturally I feel scammed, I've already have been charged over $774. I've checked my credit and have not found any evidence of the loans having been consolidated. This is making issues really hard on me with my already low monthly income.

I thank you for your time in this matter, and I look forward to a successful outcome in this situation.Desired Settlement: I would like to be refunded what I have paid thus far, which is, $774. Also, From this point and onward I would like to cancel the services of the USSLS.

Review: Hello, although I signed up with this company, I do not believe I received all the information from them. I had no idea that I was to pay them $39 a month. I thought that went to my loan, not them. I want all of my money back. Now, its is $575 dollars. I also found out I could have consolidated my loans myself for free. I am very dissatisfied and what my money back. This company is fraudelant because it did not make sure I knew what I was signing for. [redacted]Desired Settlement: I want my full money back

They helped save me thousands of dollars.

I have had a good exp so far. And I hope to continue to work with them. They answer all of my questions in a timely manner.

[redacted] and [redacted] have been very informative and polite during the process of getting setup on a program with USSL. There were financial complications on my end for making the $500 fee payment and [redacted] was super nice about rescheduling and working to get this done. A great experience so far, I will update as time goes but I don't see any issues arising.

Review: I was told this program would pay up to $5000 of interest on my student loan during the year. I was sent 1 form to fill out and was told by the representative not to let the people who held my loan know I was applying for this program. I told him during our conversation that I was currently on a payment plan that did not require any type of payments because my loan was in deferment already. He assured me that this was a better solution because they would pay the interest that was accruing on the loan. I filled out the form and submitted it along with the request information to my loan provider but never received any further information. USSL was paid $266.00 over a three month period. I sent a message telling them I wasn't satisfied with the service and wanted a refund and no further payments removed from my account. The lady that contacted me was rude and pretty much told me if my loan was already in deferment I didn't need their services anyway. She said I wasn't entitled to a refund because they did want they promised by sending me the form to fill out that I completed already. When I asked about the $5000 that was supposed to be removed she told me it happens after 25 years and they don't do it. She canceled my last payment after telling me how lucky I was to not be charged and that she didn't even have to do that for me. I felt the company misrepresented what they would do for me and I don't appreciate being taken advantage of.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund of $266.
