Dear Ms [redacted] :We are in receipt of your inquiry to the Revdex.com regarding the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree program in which you are enrolled with the University of PhoenixAs stated in your letter, you would like the option to appeal your final grade and to graduate with your cohort in July.Upon a review of your record, we have found that you were placed on Academic Probation on October 3, 2016, due to the fact that your grade point average (GPA) in the MBA program dropped below the minimum required GPAStudents must meet minimum academic standards in order to earn a University degreeAn academic status letter dated October 5, was mailed to the address on file at the time to notify you of the Academic Probation status and implications involved with Academic Disqualification. In addition to the advisement received from your graduation team, please find within student catalog, the Academic Probation and Academic Disqualification policies, reflecting that aminimum grade point average (GPA) of is required in the MBA degree programThe sections regarding these policies are reflected below for ease of reference:Academic DisqualificationAcademic Disqualification results when students on academic probation fail toachieve the minimum grade point average at the conclusion of the probationaryperiod of four (4) consecutive coursesStudents who have been AcademicallyDisqualified will be administratively withdrawn from the university and are noteligible for readmission until the lapse of six months from the date ofdisqualificationThe date of disqualification will be the course end date of thefinal course completed within the AP sequenceNo exceptions to the monthdisqualification will be granted by the Student Appeals Center (SAC)Upon theconclusion of the month disqualification students can petition the StudentAppeal Center to returnThe student may be required to retake or replace thecourse(s) with the lowest grade(s) earnedStudents on Academic Disqualificationmay not transfer to another degree program or major until they have fulfilled therequirements for reentry as determined by a SAC appealThe University will note the date a student is placed on and removed from Academic Disqualification onthe permanent transcriptThe existing schedule will be deleted and schedulingwill be restricted for students placed on Academic Disqualification.Academic ProbationAcademic Probation shall occur when a student's grade point average falls belowacceptable levelsProbation lasts for a period of four consecutive programapplicable courses following the course whose grade caused the student's GPA tofall below the minimum requirement for the programConcurrent enrollment isprohibited during the four course AP sequenceAssociate degree studentsenrolled at the Online Campus should continue traditional block schedulingformat with concurrent enrollment in two courses (excluding AACR & AAPF)Ingraduate programs, the four course sequence excludes any undergraduateprerequisite coursesFinancial Aid and VA students will continue to receive fundsduring the probationary period.Your signature on your Enrollment Agreement acknowledges your agreement with the University’s policies and procedures as well as the program specific requirements which must be met.Regarding your statement that you would like an opportunity to continue your education by appealing your previous STR/course, unfortunately, at this time, you are Academically Disqualified and are not eligible for readmission until the lapse of six months from the date of disqualificationUpon the conclusion of the six month disqualification you can appeal for readmission to resume your coursework. One of academia’s most time-honored and widely-practiced conventions is that the authority to award academic credit and assign student grades rests solely with the FacultyUniversity of Phoenix subscribes to this philosophy as a necessary protection of academic freedom-because the faculty member is the content-expert in the subject and was actually in the classroomIn support of this, the University’s policy is that unless there is strong evidence of unlawful discrimination(based on the legal definition of that term), the faculty member’s academic judgment stands. The University Catalog states the policy on grade disputes as follows:Students disputing a grade received may contact the Director of Academic Affairs or designee who will assist them in contacting the faculty member to discuss the grade disputeThe faculty member's decision is finalA grade dispute must be initiated within six (6) weeks of the grade posting dateGrade disputes are not appealable beyond the campus levelIn support of this policy, it is longstanding practice that no one in University Administration, including the Provost and the President, has the authority to overturn a grade issued by a faculty member.Ms [redacted] , we regret that you have had a dissatisfying experience with the University’s policies; specifically the minimum required GPA policy and the Academic Probation and Academic Disqualification policiesWe hope that you have found the information in this letter to be helpfulIf you need guidance or have additional questions, please contact your graduation team.On behalf of the University, we wish you much success in your academic goals in the futureOffice of Dispute ManagementUniversity of Phoenix | Office of Dispute Management
