I took my car to be serviced at my normal dealership of Mazda. I let them know my lift gate no longer worked and that I wanted to get it fixed and I had Car Shield as an extended warranty. They told me that they no longer worked with Car Shield because it would take them two hours to file a claim and that they were not paid for the work they did on some recent costumers. I was very upset to hear this since when I called to get Car Shield they reassure me that I could use ANY Mazda dealership for repairs. So that was a false claim, because I’d their bad rep with this dealer I be could not longer take it anywhere. I could only take it to dealers that didn’t deal with their bad customer service. I called CarShield said that the dealer no longer worked with them because they were very unprofessional with them. They told me that another dealer 40 minutes away in Stamford accepted their service. I gave in and took the car there. Just to mention I had already filed a claim online a week before taking it to the second dealer. No respond at all for a week and half. The Stamford dealership filed a claim and didn’t hear back after 24 hours which they said was very strange because no other company takes so long. Now I have to wait all weekend to get my car back. I want a full refund for the months I paid for Carshield because they lied when they said I can take my car to any Mazda dealership when they knew that they had a bad rep. I want a full refund because I was actually never covered because they lied. I lost 145 for the diagnostics fee already and two days off from work. It’s the least they can do. It’s cheaper than the repairs they would have to make. That goes to show you how upset I am and how I can’t trust this company to keep doing business with them. I want my money back. I don’t even want to get this car fixed.

I took my 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan to my dealer to have maintenance work performed. That is transmission fluid changed and the intake service performed. Upon starting the transmission service the technician discovered the transmission would require major service, a complete rebuild. The dealer filed a claim with CarShield, which delayed responding to the dealer. This activity went on for almost 3 weeks CarShield stating they had phone issues first then staffing Issues. Basically any excuse they could use. I decided I would pay for the repair out of pocket just to get my car back. Now after paying over $50.00 per day for a rental car and paying for the repair, CarShield denied the claim. I informed CarShield that the car was due transmission service, fluid change and filter, and that I was scheduling that very soon as well as the intake service all of which was normal scheduled maintenance and I even asked the representative if something was found during this service would it be covered. The response was yes as long as I waited until the policy took full effect. I did as instructed but now they claim it was a known issue and that I denied service at a previous visit.

CarShield is here to address your concerns.

As noted on the first three pages of your contract, American Auto Shield is the administrator of your vehicle service contract. We have contacted their claims department to obtain information on the repair claim you have referenced. The notes on your account indicate the reason your claim was not authorized was that it was deemed a pre-existing condition. The service records provided specify a failure approximately 124 days and 5894 miles prior to the date you purchased your contract.

Given that no repairs would be covered now or in the future due to this being a pre-existing condition, Carshield will refund your payments in full. You will receive on payment back to the AMERICAN EXPRESS ending 07270 and the remainder will be sent via check within 7-10 business days. This will cancel your Carshield contract. Also noted in your contract, rental reimbursements will only be granted upon approval of a claim so there is no rental reimbursement due at this time, see section C, Additional Benefits, Paragraph 2, Page 4.

If you have any further questions or disputes regarding your repair claim, please contact AAS directly or see Section M, Dispute Resolution of your contract.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:
CarShield failed to respond to the claim in a timely manner. They offered excuses of telephone system failures and staffing issues. *** Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram, the dealership I purchased the van from and the facility I chose to repair the van, contacted CarShield from day one. CarShield;s excuse was phone issues then staffing issues. Neither of these are disclaimers in their contract. Their failure to respond in a timely manner resulted in over two weeks of rental fees for us. They are responsible for those expenses. I believe the repair facility will state I never refused any repair on this van. As a side note this dealership had seven cars in their facility, each customer had to make other arrangements up to and including trading their cars in for new ones. I did not have that option.

Sincerely

Customer Response • Sep 01, 2020

In response to the attached email received on August 25, 2020, I am sending a copy of my rental agreement receipt where I had to rent a vehicle for three weeks while CarShield made their determination not to cover my car repair.

I called CarShield and advised them of the claim the very day our car went into the shop and the dealer did so as well. In fact, the dealer and I called them multiple times to try and get a response to our claim and we were told they had not yet processed the claim and was a minimum of one week behind in processing claims because of staffing issues. Once they did finally get to our claim, they wanted all the vehicle's repair and service records. We luckily had all our service done at the dealership and all the records were promptly sent to them the same day. They again, did not respond to the claim for another week.

CarShield was told we rented a vehicle because we had our van in the shop awaiting their response for the repair and therefore, our van sat at the shop until they responded. Three weeks later, the response came. This is excessive in awaiting a response and it is my belief that CarShield should make restitution for their inability to complete their claim in a timely manner.

Their negligent behavior in processing claims for not only myself, but others who took their vehicles to the same dealership I took mine to has caused damage to not only my family but to many families that has to do without their only means of transportation, but pay exorbitant fees for renting a vehicle for long periods of time that should never have happened. CarShield only allows for 4 days of rental during the repair process. Therefore, their turn around time should be 4 days or less so their clients should not have to incur additional costs in the event the policy does not cover the repair they are filing the claim for. This should be a standard they should have meet, yet did not.

I am not pursuing this claim with you for the repair of my vehicle, but am pursuing this claim for the rental of the vehicle while we waited just for a response. Again, this was excessive and I should have restitution for my having to rent a vehicle for that length of time.

I appreciate your prompt response and your assistance in resolving this matter with such an unprofessional company such as CarShield.

We have been paying car shield for four different vehicle's for over 1 year for our daughters. With continuous payments ranging from $79 to $120 with coverage on any of our vehicle's even if we was denied a claim we continued to pay car shield and the required deductible amount and the car was not covered. With each claim we made the car shield will take days to reply with a denial. The first two car's they deny claims because it was not covered. We got our two working college students two more car's and one the motor went out, car shield stated something else was wrong when they denied claim, the other car the air went out and a pedal sensor needed to be repaired we took the time to read everything with in the contract to ensure we have met the requirements and this claim was denied. We requested a full refund because every claim we submitted was denied and we received no services from car shield. With each claim car shield had an outrageous retort for denying all our claims. In the words of ***...Car Shield is a hoax.

We have contacted your service contract administrator to obtain information on the repair claims you have referenced. We see in their notes you did have 4 separate contracts at one time. However, contract # *** was cancelled due to a branded title. CarShield does not provide coverage on cars with a branded title. We see that you were reimbursed one payment for the contract on August 18th, 2*2*. CarShield will refund the remaining payment as a gesture of good will. You will receive that payment via check within 7-1business days.

The second contract in your name contract #***, was on a 2*12 Nissan Altima and then was transferred to a 26 Volkswagon Passat contract # ***. There was a claim created for the Volkswagon on March 18, 2*2*. On May 5th, 2*2you informed that claims department you were taking that vehicle to another repair facility and would call to have the repair facility file a new claim. There has been no communication on this claim since that day and it has moved to inactive status. We also see that contract (#*** )was cancelled on July 31st, 2*2and you were refunded the initial payment for that contract.

The claims department has no claim notes or pre-claim notes for the last contract #*** so we have no information on any repair claim denials. If you have paid for repairs and would like to see if you are eligible for reimbursement, please email the SIGNED repair invoice to [email protected].

Please let us know if you will be providing an invoice for review. We look forward to hearing from you and working towards a resolution on this matter.

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

We have contacted your service contract administrator to obtain information on the repair claim you have referenced. Your contract administrator cancelled your contract because they were unable to identify the true mileage on your vehicle due to an odometer malfunction. CarShield can not provide coverage for any vehicle without verified mileage.

We see that you have already been refunded 3 payments. CarShield will refund the rest of your payments, minus the paid claim, as no future repairs or claims would be authorized due to the mileage discrepancy. You will receive the refund via check within 7-10 business days.

This company ain't worth what they charge. They cover things that they KNOW will NEVER go out on their own. They only promote what gets your attention. I am a customer with carshield and they state in both their tv commercials and also on their website that they cover trans missions if you have a powertrain policy with them, which I do. In fact I have two policies with them, one is electrical and I also then added a 2nd policy to cover the powertrain. The commercial specifically shows a couple saying carshield paid for a new transmission and engine for their vehicle. My car was taken into the repair shop 4 weeks ago because of transmission issues. Both the mechanic, who was recommended to me by carshield, and myself tried continuously to reach them for a week and when I finally got ahold of someone in customer service they stated that they did not have anything filed for repairs by the mechanic because their system was down for a week so they were backlogged. Every time my mechanic or I have attempted to call them you are put on hold for over and hr and if you opt for a call back they don't get back to you for 4 or 5 hours. Now carshield is trying to tell my mechanic that they want to put in a used transmission, not one that is rebuilt, one that is used. The mechanic stated the one they are talking about putting in already has a lot of miles on it and most likely would fail right after the short warranty that would be on it. My mechanic also stated that since carshield wants to send them the transmission they could offer no warranty on the service or installation. This is not what the business advertises and I do not have the money to have to purchase another transmission in 6 months because their 'replacement' has failed. I have made every payment on time and expect to get the service they tell you they will provide. Also, because it has taken so long for them to start a claim, first because their system was down for a week and then because of their backlog I have also had to pay for a rental vehicle for these last four weeks. Carshield states they cover car rentals while you get yours fixed but are now telling me that they only cover up to $143.00. I have paid around $1000 so far for rental and am still using the rental until this is settled.

I took out an extended warranty on two cars, I had the silver package. On one car I had trouble with the transmission. Took it to the shop and Carshield denied fixing my car. They never sent me a written contract on either of the cars. I've called twice to get that and I still haven't received. The transmission is going to cost $3600.00; I found someone else and they fixed it part way for $1500.00

CarShield Response • Aug 20, 2020

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

We have contacted your service contract administrator to obtain information on the repair claim you have referenced. On August 17th, 2020, your repair facility called in to update your claim. The repair facility disassembled and inspected the transmission and found that the cause of failure was the the 2nd gear clutches were burned up and down to metal. At that time the claim specialist informed your repair facility that the contract does not cover wear of clutch packs due to normal operation of the vehicle and your claim was denied. Since clutch packs are not parts listed for coverage under your contract terms, your request for reimbursement on your vehicle would most likely also be denied.

CarShield will refund your payments in full on this contract as a goodwill gesture and in good faith to resolve this matter. You will receive one payment back to the DISCOVER ending 9895 and the remainder will be sent via check within 7-10 business days.

On 08/06/2020 I took my truck to my repair shop as the power steering pump went out. I gave them a copy of my contract, which clearly stated this was covered. The facility tried in vain to reach American car shield claims department, which resulted in me having to pay them for the repair, parts and labor. I myself have tried to contact the claims department, for reimbursement to no avail. It has been 2 weeks. I called car shield and was able to reach "customer care for becoming a member" with no problem, and they will also transfer you to claims, but it is there the communication stops. Carshield customer service and delivery of professional, quality service is very poor. It is very difficult to impossible to file a new claim for service. Members can only leave a message for a call back, but if you're not available when the representative calls you back, you have to leave a message again for call back. My mechanic and I have been leaving messages and emailing Carshield for 4 days (8/17 - 8/20). Today (8/20) I filed a claim online and finally spoke to an adjuster, for 15 minutes, who told me that he could not enter a claim for me because the primary status of my account is in backout. He could not override. This is the 2nd time I needed to file a claim and got this backout rejection. The adjuster gave me a customer service # to call. I spoke to *** for 30 minutes who couldn't override the backout status. She transferred me to the leave a message for call back line. I called customer service again and spoke with Tammy for another 30 minutes. She couldn't override the backout status. She transferred me to the leave a message for call back line. My account is current. I have never missed a payment and Carshield auto deducts from my bank account every month. I have been inconvenienced beyond measure.

CarShield Response • Aug 21, 2020

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

We have contacted your service contract administrator to obtain information on the repair claim you have referenced. We are sorry to hear there was confusion on the coverage you purchased on your Hybrid vehicle. CarShield contracts do come with a 30 day/money back guarantee so that our customers have time to review the terms of the contract. You purchased your contract on June 16, 2020 and the unfortunately the review time has expired.

In an effort to apologize for the confusion, CarShield is still willing to refund you in full for your payments. This would cancel your contract with CarShield. Please let us know how you would like to proceed and we will process the requested immediately.

We do appreciate your business and thank you for being a CarShield customer.

I have taken my car for repair and the dealer is unable to maintain contact or get a response from the Carshield to complete my repair, which is covered in my warranty. My car sat at the dealership for weeks as the dealer (and myself) continued to attempt to correlate communications with the adjuster in order to complete the repair. Eventually we had to pick up the vehicle because the company never responded. My vehicle has not been repaired and we've made several attempts to make contact via phone and several social media sources, with no success.

We took our vehicle back to the dealer after they contacted them referencing this claim and the vehicle is still without repair and the dealer states that Carshield is refusing all repairs on the vehicle.

CarShield Response • Sep 18, 2020

Thanks for reaching out to us again.

On 9/15 your repair facility started a claim for new issue with A/C system your vehicle. This one was called in stating that the cooling fan cut out and allowed A/C system to over pressurize and blew a line off the condenser. Your repair facility requested a fan, line and condenser be replaced. The condenser is the only part that would be listed for coverage but since its failure was caused by failure of a non-covered part it is excluded from coverage and was denied. The other issue on this claim is the master cylinder leaking into the brake booster. This is Power Train Gold contract and it has no coverage for brakes. We hope this adequately explains your repair claim issues. Please reach out to American Auto Shield for any further explanation ***.

We appreciate you being a loyal CarShield customer.

Claims ignored not followed up. File claim told to take vehicle to repair car set in repair several days unable to reach warranty company. Had to take car back home. 1month later still haven't responded to claim. Finally got in touch with representative was told my claims and repair claims from dealer were not in the system. Went online and applied again still no response after 5days. But they still deduction monthly payments from my account.

We apologize for the delays in facilitating your claim.Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most American Auto Shield ("AAS") employees are working remotely; as a result, some callers are experiencing connection issues and extended hold times. Likewise, during the week of July 20, 2020, we experienced interruptions to our claims and telephone systems. Our systems are now fully operational and we are working to reach out to all claimants who were affected during that week. We realize these issues are not acceptable and certainly do not reflect our commitment to provide the highest levels of service. Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Sincerely

If you are looking for an extended warranty PLEASE DON"T buy from Carshield. I'm not sure how it's legal for a company like this to be in business and do false advertising.

I had 2 claims submitted to Carshield. The first my mechanic received $400 towards a $2,600 repair, the second claim was denied completely. The second claim was a $700 repair and Carshield had a week-long system outage, so they didn't reply to my mechanic until after the car was repaired, 5 days after the car was taken to the mechanic.

I needed the car and the mechanic could not sit on hold for hours on end waiting for the claims department. When Carshiled eventually replied it was via email, I told the mechanic I would file the claim. I tried to file the claim online as instructed via the online forms submission without success. I emailed the same information as requested on the online form and didn't get any follow-up so I called over a week later. After sitting on hold, for only 30 minutes this time, the customer service rep check my claim and informed me it was denied. I canceled my service immediately.

I will say when you eventually get customer service they are polite and are knowledgable.

Thank for bringing this to our attention.

We contacted the claims department to obtain information on the repair claim you have referenced. Their notes say this was initially called in as an overheating vehicle with a leaking water pump. Your repair facility was advised that the overheating and any associated damage would not be covered. They were also advised that the water pump had coverage under the contract. The claims department ever received an estimate or an invoice, so no repair was ever authorized. If you have had the water pump replaced, please forward that SIGNED invoice to us at [email protected] so that it can be reviewed for reimbursement eligibility. If you have not paid for the repair, please have your repair facility contact *** immediately to submit an estimate and move the claim forward.

We look forward to working towards a resolution on this matter.

I am a Senior Citizen. I purchased a Warranty for my Vehicle over 12 months ago through Car Shield. I made all of my Payments on time on Auto Pay, and I kept up with all of my Maintenance required for this Contract. My vehicle broke down, and my Contract should cover Repairs, and now they are Refusing to Pay Up.

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

We have contacted your service contract administrator to obtain information on the repair claim you have referenced. Upon review of the *** records on your vehicle, the claims department found there were issues with your engine before the date of purchase of your vehicle service contract. Due to the mention of those issues, your claim was denied as a preexisting condition. As noted in your contract, no rental reimbursement will be approved without a claim approval.

You purchased your contract on March 8, 2020 and have made 7 payments on your account. CarShield will refund your payments in full due to all future claims for the engine being denied as well. You will receive one payment back to the VISA *** and the remainder will be sent via check within 7-10 business days.

We are sorry to lose you as a CarShield customer.
