This is the second complaint I am filing within a week against Car Shield. My mechanic and I have been trying to get an adjuster to visit the shop so my car can be repaired since July 16. I received a call from Car Shield yesterday saying they were emailing the adjuster and we should hear from them first thing on Wednesday morning. The adjuster called the mechanic's shop at 7:30 pm Tuesday evening. The shop was closed. They shop has attempted to call the adjuster back all day with no response. I want my car fixed. I can't believe this company is in business.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I purchased an extended warranty with them. 2 months down the line my check engine light came on and the dealership said is was something wrong with my intake system which is a part of the engine itself. My warranty was for engine and trainsmission . I called car shield and it took them a week to get back in touch with me and the person said that the warranty I purchased would not cover it. I was and still am upset, 5 calls and 4 hang ups later they didnt offer me an apology for anything. I canceled my service but I requested them to return my 2 months of payments and they refused.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
We have reviewed the notes on your account and see the cause of failure on your vehicle is the valve cover gasket and intake manifold gasket. Unfortunately those are parts not listed for coverage under your vehicle service contact terms.
CarShield will refund your payments as a gesture of goodwill and in good faith to resolve this matter. You will receive one payment back to the VISA *** and the remainder will be mailed via check within 7-10 business days.

As noted on page 8 of your contract, the cost of the tear down will only be covered when the cause of failure can be identified. If the failure is covered in your contract, the tear down will be covered under your contract terms. Your claim can not move forward without the tear down authorization. If you would like to proceed with the claim, please contact your repair facility and authorize the tear down.
CarShield is willing to cancel your contract and refund your payments if you chose not to proceed with your claim. Please let us know how you would like to handle this matter.

I believe CarShield is a scam, I have paid them since November 2019 and with 2 claims they have not held up their end paying $65.00 and paying $458.00 on one bill and not even responding on the other after weeks of trying to request an adjuster to no avail.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
In review of the notes from the claims department, there was a message left for your repair facility on July 31st, 2020 in which the claims department requested service records on your vehicle. As of August 3rd, those records still had not been received. Please have your repair facility contract *** if you would like to move forward with your claim.

I am currently experiencing one of the most horrible encounters in my life!
My car has been in the shop for 3 weeks now. I've been on hold on average of 3 hours a day trying to get in contact with the claims department. When I get through the draining 3 hour hold, the call drops or the claims representative tells me "they are awaiting the adjustor to confirm the repair" The process of having to call the adjuster to actually confirm that my transmission has internal failure is taking two weeks its self.
As I type this review, I'm currently on hold.
For clarification:
- Policy is up to date
- Car has been in the shop for almost three weeks
- Carshield refuses to pay for a car rental until labor is started on my car but they are not communicating with the repair shop.
- There's a daily three hour hold in the claims department
- Ive provided the last 12 months of device to my vehicle
- I have to catch a ride everyday back and forth to work
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! I have paid my policy and have followed all the necessary steps via the contract.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
We have contacted the claims department regarding the status of your claim and see it was authorized on August 4th, 2020. We trust this adequately addresses the issues of your complaint. Please feel free to contact us should you need anything further.

When my truck reached 85,000 miles, that was when I realized that my extended warranty of 75000 has expired. So I decided to purchase Powertrain Gold Vehicle Protection Plan from Carshield. After driving for than a month, my car started to experience hesitations and eventually would change gears. After consultations from our neighborhood mechanic, I brought my 2017 Silverado to *** Transmissions. Perplexed by the gross amount that is required ($4200), I asked the service provider if they could facilitate a claim with Carshield, which they willingly obliged. It took *** 2 days to finally speak to somebody from the claims department. Four days later I received a call through my voicemail from the Carshield Administrator. Immediately, I tried calling back but the call center kept me holding for more than an hour and still could not get through. It gives you an option for a call back but the process would not even let you enter your phone number but instead get you to back to the main anoouncement. It was the same in the succeeding days until I decided to write an e-mail. The following day, somebody from the call center called, only to tell me that in order for my claim to be processed, I need to produce documents of my vehicle's service history. I asked if there is a better way to contact the company and I was told that it is only through the call center. I tried to dig up my documents and wanted to inform the Claims Department of what I got but I had to go to the same predicament I was before. I was very frustrated and it was more than 10 days that I didn't have a vehicle to drive around. I decided to pay the total repair out-of-pocket and pray to God that somebody from the Claims Department will call me again regarding this claim because I'm done waiting on the phone or e-mail for a non-answer.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
If you would like to email CarShield your paid invoice as well as your service records, we would be happy to forward it to your service contract administrator to see if you are eligible for reimbursement. Please send the documents to [email protected] and someone from the claims department will reach out to you after the records have been reviewed.

I am a customer of Carsheild, had issues with my car, they refused to cover the costs. In the commercial they state that they will cover issues such as transmissions, engines, etc. I paid Carsheild every month, in good faith, just in case I would have problems with my car. I took my car to the Toyota Dealership, because it was using oil between oil changes, and the diagnosis was pistions, the representative from the Toyota Dealership, Brian Elder, spoke with Carsheild, and informed them of the problems, which, Carsheild stated they would pay, or cover the problems, then after, they stated that my issues were not covered, so I had to spend almost 3,000 for my car. They are offering false advertisement in commercials, and I am outraged! because I assumed I had some extra insurance that would benefit me in hard times to come, and I had to deal with this, I am on a fixed income, and do not have extra money to blow in the wild, I hope the Revdex.com will come in defense, because I can only imagine the people that they are doing this too.
CarShield is here to address your concerns.
We have contacted the claims department to obtain information on the repair claim you have referenced. The notes indicate that although initially the repair facility diagnosed the issue as a piston failure, after completing an oil consumption test it was determined that was not the cause of failure. Unfortunately repairs to correct oil consumption are not listed for coverage under you contract terms.
As requested, CarShield will refund your payments in full as a gesture of goodwill and in good faith to resolve this matter. You will receive one payment back to the VISA ending 1748 and the remainder will be sent via check within 7-10 business days. This will cancel your contract with CarShield.

I am rejecting this response because: *** told me that the reason for the oil consumption was piston failure. I was told that CarShield would pay at first then later that changed. I was told they would not cover the cost of the repair. The contract states that piston failure was covered by CarShield. I called and spoke with CarShield and they told it was not covered. At the time I needed my car fix so I gave Toyota permission to continue with the repair. I am attaching a copy of the bill for your viewing.
CarShield also stated they would refund my payment as requested and I have not requested a refund for payment. I did not request a refund because I was hoping that CarShield would do the right thing and solve this problem for me.

I am rejecting this response because: My statement regarding the warranty, was for the company to abide by their warranty, and they choose to jump at the chance to return my premium I paid, however, did not choose to pay for the repairs of my vehicle, as their warranty stated. I did not ask for Carsheild to relieve me, they choose that on their own accord. either way, I want my vehicle warranty to stand, with this, Carsheild should be held liable, with their falsehoods of advertisements.

I have paid for my car's extended warranty through Car Shield for at least two years. My car started making noises and stalling so I called Car Shield and they told me to take it to the car shop. I took it to *** in Chicago located on *** on 7/6/2020. They inspected the car, called Car Shield. Car Shield told them to look further and make sure it wasn't the electrical part of the transmission, the shop did what they told them. Next, Car Shield told them to inspect the oil pan. *** did. *** is now just waiting on approval to fix the car. Car Shield will not return their calls or my calls. I call Car Shield and they say a manager will call me back because they are the only ones to approve work and I never get a call. They give me excuses that their power went down last week but I tell them my car has been there before they lost power. Then they say they are backed up due to the pandemic.
Thank for you bringing this to our attention.
We have reached out to the claims department. Their notes indicate they need to speak with you repair facility to move the claim forward.
Please have your repair facility call *** at their earliest convenience if they haven't done so already. We do apologize for the delay. The claims department has issues with the phone and interet last week and were unable to answer the claims line while the issues were being repaired.

I purchased a Car Shield policy for my convertible in March 2020. In June of 2020, the differential and drive shaft went out. We have done everything by the book. We purchased a Platinum package for the vehicle. After a week or so, they told us that there was an issue wanting to know what repairs had been done to the car in April of 2020. I have owned that car since January 2020. It had never been in the shop. We argued that point until I finally had to contact the former owner and their mechanic who had to go around and around. It turned out to be a Carfax issue that was not relevant to me. 2 weeks later, yes, it's still at the shop, they decided to send an inspector to "get a second opinion". The next week, they decided that our mechanic was indeed correct and it needed a drive shaft and differential. Really???!!? Now, 2 more weeks later, yes, it is STILL at the shop, they have decided to fix it. Now about the parts.....
I received a phone message that I can either pay nothing and let THEM send the parts, which they will warranty or pay $1500 to let the mechanic obtain them on their own, which they will NOT warranty. They needed my answer to continue with the repair. ARE YOU SERIOUS????? DUH! Of course, I wanted them to send the parts!!!! So, I tried calling them. After 2 hours of waiting for the call to go through, it FINALLY did. Then we waited on hold for 2 hours waiting for a customer service representative to come on the line. Just an FYI, do not EVER ask for a call back, I tried that once. After 2 days of no call back, I decided to hold. The hold time is usually around 2 hours. I know this because whenever I call, that is the going wait time. When someone finally answered, we wanted them to send both parts. Guess what? They didn't know anything about the differential part, just the drive shaft. Within 15 minutes I was in tears, the representative just couldn't understand why I was so upset. REALLY? So she in turn said that we needed to speak to an adjuster. WHAT ON EARTH FOR???? Just send the parts to fix my car!!! As of right this minute, we have TRYING to get our call through since 10:00 this morning, got through at 12:00, sat on hold waiting for 2 more hours, spoke to representative and sat on and off hold, getting frustrated and confused for another 20 minutes, and now we are on hold yet again waiting for the adjuster. We have tried to call, been on hold, got thoroughly confused, and now on hold AGAIN for 6 hours today! Yep, I'm still on hold as we speak. Yep, my car is STILL in shop. I'm seriously wondering if I should put in a change of address for this car. We did everything by the book and we are getting screwed big time. What did we ever do to deserve this kind of treatment from Car Shield?
We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most American Auto Shield ("AAS") employees are working remotely; as a result, some callers are experiencing connection issues and extended hold times. Likewise, during the week of July 20, 2020, we experienced interruptions to our claims and telephone systems. Our systems are now fully operational and we are working to reach out to all claimants who were affected during the previous week. We realize these issues are not acceptable and certainly do not reflect our commitment to provide the highest levels of service. We apologize for your inconvenience and look forward to providing excellent service in the future.

I had carshield extended warranty on my vehicle. I took the vehicle to the shop to change the oil. I CV boot was found to be damaged. I told the technician to change it because it was under carshield warranty. However, carshield declined to pay for the repair saying the mechanic told them there was no grease inside the boot. I called carshield and they said that are not paying for the repair because there CV boot. I said the boot its sealed how can I grease it. I called them numerous times to cancel the service, and they transferred me to different people but no one is helping me.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
We have reviewed the notes in your file and see that the cause of failure on your vehicle was a CV boot which is not a part listed for coverage under your service contract terms.
CarShield is willing to refund you the prorated amount on both of your contracts. You will receive the refund via check within 7-10 business days.

Great customer service, but terrible adjuster service. I waited 2 hours to talk to a adjuster which I never talked to. Finally adjuster Patrick called back and ask for some info and said he would call me back, I have not heard back from him still. I ended up paying for rental car and the service at the dealership.
This has been the absolutely worse experience. My transmission went out. Took two months and finally they gave me a used transmission. Now I can't get my car back cause the labor has not been paid. Can never get in touch with anyone. I have 3 cars covered and I will be dropping my coverage on all of them. Easier to take that money a put in savings. Maybe it is time you fix these issues cause reading all the reviews many people feel the same way. I don't know who knows this company but they should sell to someone that can run it and understands customer service.
On June 15, 2020 I had repairs done to my auto that were supposed to be fully covered. They shortchanged the amount they sent back to me and said there was a cap on payment and they don't cover taxes.
I have a copy of the cover letter they sent me and it doesn't say anything about a cap and says that they pay the full cost of repairs and taxes.
CarShield is here to address your concerns.
If you would like to email your invoice to us at [email protected], we would happy to forward it to your service contract administrator to see if you are eligible for further reimbursement.
Thank you for being a loyal CarShield customer.

I am rejecting this response because: This company has not been in contact with me regarding my complaint, I am asking that they refund all monies paid to them. They falsely advertised their warranty they sell to consumers.

Thank you for reaching out again.
We have reviewed the notes on your account from the claims department. An alternator was replaced under contract *** for the vehicle identification number on the invoice provided, claim ***. The claims department attempted to pay your repair facility but you stated had paid the repair facility out of pocket and we should reimburse you. A check was cut on 7/10/20, number *** in the amount of $213.46 and was mailed to the address on file, the same as the address on the invoice you provided. This was after the $100 deductible. The authorization was based on *** parts that the repair facility refused to let us send in and the shop also charged excessive diagnostic time. This check cleared July 14th, 2020.
CarShield is willing to refund your payments, minus the paid claim of $213.46, for contract ***. You will receive your refund via check within 7-10 business days.
We are sorry to lose you as a CarShield customer.

Car Shield is the company I purchased an extended warranty from. They contracted with a vendor to manage and approve claims. A claim was filed through Car Shield 2 weeks ago. They are unresponsive to me and the auto shop. They defer to American Auto Shield which isn't responsive either. They scheduled a 3rd party adjuster to go out but that didn't happen in a timely fashion. They couldn't tell me when that inspection would occur. Then on July 20, their computer and phone systems were down for a week causing further delays. I sent emails, left messages and now the voicemail is full. I have been without a vehicle for 2 weeks and still no decision on the claim. Even though system is up, the claim status shows as pending. Can't get a rental vehicle through them because the claim has not been approved. I would like claim approval within 2 business days, refund of 1 month warranty fees and refund for out of packet expenses for 1 week of car rental fees.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
We see that your claim was authorized yesterday, July 27th, 2020. The notes indicate you were asked to forward the rental receipt for possible reimbursement as well.
We trust this adequately addresses the issues raised in the complaint.
Thank for you being a loyal CarShield customer.

I paid for a warranty for 100k miles/60 month term and I have paid out of pocket at least $8000 for work on my vehicle and so far nothing has been covered under this warranty. I have paid this company a total of $3793.00. The advertisement was misleading in that the warranty does not cover basic repairs.
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. We appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
We have contacted your service contract claims administrator to obtain information on the repair claims you have referenced. They stated that there have been 4 repair claims presented. One on 8/22/2018 for a catalytic converter, one of 8/20/2019 for an 02 sensor, one on 12/27/2019 for brake pads and rotors and one on May 14, 2020 for a leaking oil seal and a broken right side exhaust manifold stud. These 4 components are not listed in your service contract terms as covered components.
We do allow every customer a 30 day money back guarantee when they initially purchase their vehicle service contract. This give you time to look over all the covered components and vehicle service contract terms and conditions. If there is anything you do not like about your coverage during that time, we agree to refund you in full the down payment you made. There are a great many components covered under your contract's terms and conditions, however.
If you would like to cancel your service contract, you would receive the prorated refund due, per your service contract terms. Please let us know if you would like to keep your coverage for future covered repairs, or if you would like to cancel. Your prorated refund would figure up to $1389.57 as of today's date. We will honor that refund amount for a future date if that is what you decide you would like to do.
We will wait to here from you.

Unfortunately I too have fallen victim to the erratic business practices of Car Shield maintenance insurance. Last month I purchased a service plan with Car Shield on 10 Jul 2020, I took my vehicle to a certified dealer with a maintenance shop ( A ford motor dealership), since then they have a
s what was wrong with my vehicle and have been trying to get in contact with American auto shield, for the past two weeks. I have personally reached out via e-mail, phone calls and tried to utilize the companies own website to garner a response, but to no avail. At his point and time there is no excuse for this lack of service, and this totally impedes, disrupts and infringes on my responsibilities as a serviceman AND a customer, not to mention that car shield also took it upon themselves to charge my credit card and TAKE their fee without my permission\authorization, my resolution is this, either call the service department to quickly resolve this issue or fully refund my payments (2 payments of 109.99)
We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.
We see in your claim notes that your repair was filed on July 17th, 2020. The notes indicate they have requested proof of time and mileage on your vehicle from the repair facility because according to the information in the system, you are in still the required 20 day/500 mile waiting period and are not eligible for repair yet. Please provide the requested records so that your claim can move forward.
If you are unable to provide the records, CarShield will refund you payments in full as a gesture of goodwill. Please let us know how you would like to proceed.
