I have been dealing with Carshield on a repair for my car for three weeks now. I took the car to ***. They said I needed a timing chain. Had a oil change. When I was traveling I heard a loud ticking, the motor blew up. I reported it to Carshield because they had covered the repair on the timing chain. The car is at *** in *** Mo. Carshield said they were waiting on the shop for information on the car and what was wrong. The mechanic says he has given them everything they need. The adjuster needed some sort of number (state ID maybe?) of the mechanic or the shop. I needed a rental because I am in East St. Louis. They said they would cover a rental, as soon as they got the info from the repairman. When I call Carshield (Friday) they say they have had trouble with their system and they could not see the status of the repair. I called again today and they said the system is still down. They are giving me a runaround. I was promised a rental car and I don't have it.

My car stopped working. I got it towed to the Jaguar dealership in Birmingham AL. *** in customer service at Jaguar kept trying to get Carshield and never could get in touch with them for weeks. So Jaguar made me tow my car away. I had the car towed to *** Transmission(***). This was at the end of May. *** at *** had my car for about 3 weeks before they could even get a hold of Carshield. I have called Carshield every day since then, they kept saying they would call me back and never did. The claim adjuster finally called *** and said to tear the car down to see what was wrong. *** gave them diagnosis. He indicated I need a new engine
but *** said the cause was the timing belt.
Carhsield denied my claim saying it was due to the oil filter. I provided them documentation showing in November 2019 I had my oil change and car serviced then.
I was supposed to get a $75 reimbursement
from Carshield and that never happened. Now they are asking me to make payments, even though they haven't done anything.
I haven't talked to a claim adjuster once about the situation. Yet they can call me for a payment.
Now I owe to $2000 to *** for nothing. The engine I need is almost $6000. It will cost me almost $10,000 to get my car back. I have sent Carshield everything they have asked for.

CarShield is here to address your concerns.

We have reviewed the notes in our file to obtain information on the repair claim you have referenced. Their notes indicate the cause of failure on your vehicle was the oil filter. Unfortunately, the oil filter is a not a part listed for coverage in your vehicle service contract terms. Their notes also indicate an adjuster tried to reach you on July 17th to go over your claim but they were unable to reach you at that time. If you have any questions regarding the claim, please call *** and someone can go over everything with you.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: I did call them, and gave them proof of current oil change and new filter. They continue to want me to pay for this policy, then refuse to address and cover my repair needs. They are just taking my money and giving me nothing in return. They are on TV making promises to consumers that they have no intention on fulfilling. Repairs shops don't even want to service cars covered by these policy's. This company promised to pay for my towing and even stated that they mailed in May, now August and no check has been received from them.

My 2007 Ford Explorer was taken to a repair shop May 8th 2020. Express Auto Repair. First I had issues with the car mileage they input was incorrect that was there fault. So the repair shop found the planetary gear in the transmission causing the transmission to fail. I have been mistreated by some agents telling me I was lying about the mileage that they input to the system. I explained many times to them I’m a handicapped individual caring for my mother with Alzheimer’s and that I needed my car to get around to doctors appointments. They advised me to get a rental car I just paid 2700. For car rental they still have my car in the shop the transmission they sent out from auto nation didn’t work *** is the agent in contact when he wants to answer the repair shop they are supposed to send out another transmission this was 3 weeks ago and here I am not getting a response from any supervisor that actually cares about helping me. I’m going to have surgery August 12th I can’t afford a rental because they aren’t paying the rental car. I just need my car back it’s difficult being handicapped not able to get around. I’m going to contact the disability and file a complaint against them. I called today and no response they said the transmission was going to arrive yesterday and still hasn’t. I’ve never ever dealt with a company like this. How do they get away with this. HELP.

You purchased vehicle repair insurance from Car Shield in January 2019. I was required to pay for the coverage for one year before I could file a claim. On June 25, 2020, my car would not start and I thought it was the fuel pump may have went out. I called Car Shield that day, and spoke with several representative who put me on hold for several hours. Car Shield picked up the car on June 25, 2020, and took it to Toyota Central and authorized the inspection of the vehicle but have not authorized the repair of the car. I was also promised a free rental as a part of the insurance contract but was later told the rental car was only for the time the car was being worked on. Since Car Shield has not authorized the work, I'm being forced to pay for the rental car myself. Now they're talking about denying my claim but on 7/20/20, they told me to tell Toyota Central to perform the service. It's nearly a month with out my car and I don't know what to do because if my claim is denied, I can't afford to pay for the service. I've paid over $500 for a rental car. Car Shield claim number ***. The Toyota Central number is ***. The contact person at Toyota Central is ***.

Their website and google says full refund for each contract month the payment is taken out, and I sold the car removed it from the carshield app thought it was canceled haven’t been charged but once in the last three or four months since I bought and sold the car, so I thought I cancelled it. I called this morning July 21,2020 to get a refund for the payment that was taken out and I was told there is nothing they can do because the payment was already taken from my bank even though I don’t have the car anymore, and that I needed to call in 24 hours before well how am I supposed to do that when I didn’t know and haven’t been charged but that one time. Customer service was less then helpful and rude

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Sincerely

In the fall of 2019, I purchased coverage for my vehicle through car shield on behalf of American Autoshield. On May 11, 2020 I took my vehicle to *** to have it repaired for showing no oil pressure, multiple oil leaks, a rough idle and a few other minor repairs. *** evaluated the car and told me that I multiple leaks in gaskets and seals and that I needed a new oil pump to repair all the issues listed. I agreed to have the repairs done and told the dealership to check with American Autoshield to see what, if anything was covered. It was revealed to me that with the contract that I have, the gold package plan. American Autoshield would cover repairs for the entire repair as long as the repairs were completed in conjunction with each other. Due to the amount of time that my vehicle was at the dealership the service adviser *** who was responsible for the repairs being completed on my vehicle asked me if I could place a downpayment on the repairs because the month of May was coming to an end and the dealership needed to close out the fiscal period for the month. I had no problem with agreeing to this because my contract as well as customer service stated that I was covered and would be reimbursed for any funds put out as outlined in my contract. My service adviser then completed the work order a few days later. When I inquired about being refunded the money that I spent he advised me that American Autoshield did not issue a second payment beyond the oil pump repair and that I would probably have to contact them directly. I later contacted both Carshield and American AutoShield and received nothing but the run around for 30 days with them claiming phone issues in the Denver area and that was the reason why my calls dropped for three weeks straight. It took three weeks for me to get in contact with a representative from Carshield to tell me that Carshield and American Autoshield are two different companies. This included a week of Carshield and American Auto Shied either hanging up on me when they went to transfer my call to adjusters or letting the phone ring for hours with no answer. Between the time my car was repaired and now I have managed to speak to only two hostile claim adjusters neither one that you can call directly and neither one t wanting to grant me the reimbursement for the $3767.98 that I spent out of pocket citing every minor irrelevant detail about my claim. Their primary defense is that I have two invoice numbers which according to them indicate two separate repairs. I explained to the individual that I had the bill split in half and that you cannot give a car dealership $5001.00 and they not give you a receipt in 2020, thus creating two involve numbers. This information was not sufficient enough for hm and denied my claim and told me to call an arbitration phone number. It seems to be a foreign concept to this company to have a bill split in half or to make a payment with the expectation of being reimbursed like every other large insurance company has a practice of doing. The most recent claim adjuster said that there were discrepancies in my claim due to mileage on my car because the odometer shows a 15 mile difference. As I stated to American Autoshield previously, the service adviser *** of *** is more than willing to give a statement and provide dealership based paperwork showing that my vehicle remained at the dealership the entire time for all repairs that were completed. I personally have cell phone video and audio proof that I did not have my vehicle in my possession at any time prior to all repairs being completed because I was given a brand new loaner vehicle and recorded the mileage just in case an event like this took place. It should be noted that my contract states seals and gaskets are not stand alone repairs, which I'm aware of. I again emphasize that those repairs were not completed individually they were completed as part of an internal repair to the engine (oil pump), per the contract. These repairs being completed together validate my claim that American Autoshield is responsible for reimbursing me the full cost of the gaskets and seals plus labor cost. It should also be noted that claims adjusters from American Autoshield attempted to bait me into calling an arbitration unit from section M of my contract that would invalidate my efforts to file a claim with the Revdex.com. In closing at present time both Carshield and American Autoshield have restricted my access to being able to download a copy my original contract.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: I have already spoke with two claims adjusters from American Auto Shield and they seem to NOT be willing to perform basic investigative or follow up activities. Again my primary complaint revolves around being reimbursed for work performed that is covered under my contract. Car shield/American Autoshield claims adjusters are attempting to hide behind my bill being split in half because the repairs spanned a four week period. Again, the service adviser asked me to pay a portion of the bill so the dealership could close out the monthly fiscal period, which I did without hesitation because my contract states that repairs completed in conjunction with each other are covered. You cannot give a business $5000.00 and they not give you a receipt n the year 2020. If Carshield/American Auto Shield would like to resolve this issue contact my service advisor *** of *** and confirm that all my repairs were performed in conjunction with each other as outlined in the contract, and that my vehicle never left the repair facility, and was not returned to my custody until all repairs were completed. After the completion of the entry level follow up that shows I'm in compliance with guidelines of my contract Carshield can *** or ETF the requested refunded amount.

Sincerely

Thank you for reaching out again.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most American Auto Shield ("AAS") employees are working remotely; as a result, some callers are experiencing connection issues and extended hold times. Likewise, during the week of July 20, 2020, we experienced interruptions to our claims and telephone systems. Our systems are now fully operational and we are working to reach out to all claimants who were affected during the previous week. We realize these issues are not acceptable and certainly do not reflect our commitment to provide the highest levels of service. We apologize for your inconvenience and look forward to providing excellent service in the future. This claim was opened by your repair facility (the "RF") when it called AAS on June 15, 2020. CarShield is the seller of the customer’s Vehicle Service Contract and AAS is the administrator. The vehicle had been driven to the RF, and you reported the engine was running rough. The RF reported the oil pump had low pressure and diagnosed the vehicle needed an oil pump. AAS authorized the repair to the oil pump on June 16, 2020. Subsequently, the customer submitted rental receipts and additional invoices for repairs performed on the vehicle in conjunction with the repair to the oil pump. The rental receipts were actually from a previous claim that had been denied. AAS reviewed the invoices for the additional work and declined coverage for the work on the invoices. This claim was reviewed by the Claims Director for AAS. You had extensive work done on his vehicle. The engine was re-sealed almost entirely from top to bottom. Leaking seals and gaskets are not covered by the vehicle service contract. He also had an issue with the oil pump providing low pressure. The claim for the oil pump issue was authorized and paid to the RF. The customer also provided receipts for a thermostat, water pump, and starter he purchased. The Claims Director determined these parts were not necessary to the repair, and you purchased them to have them installed with the other work that was done. The thermostat is not covered, and no failure or complaint was ever provided regarding failure of the starter or the water pump. These are not reimbursable because all repairs require prior authorization, which was never provided for these repairs. Likewise, a failure was never verified for these repairs, as required by the vehicle service contract.. While you state all of this was authorized to the repair facility, the only authorized repair was for the oil pump. Last, it is noted in the invoices provided that the repair facility also installed an aftermarket exhaust system on the vehicle. The vehicle service contract does not pay any labor for this; and because you have now modified the vehicle, repairs to his engine, transmission, and driveline are now not covered as modifications are an exclusion of the vehicle service contract. Please note these modification preclude any future repairs under your vehicle service contract.

We realized you may have misinterpreted the dispute resolution clause of the vehicle service contract, which provides the procedure for dispute resolution in Section M. You are advised that the dispute MAY be resolved by arbitration. The alternative to arbitration is litigation filed in the courts for Jefferson County, Colorado. There are no notes in your claim indicating you ever requested a copy of your vehicle service contract. An email was sent by CarShield to the customer on October 29, 2020, with a link to the vehicle service contract and a copy of the contract was attached to our first response to your complaint. At no time did CarShield or AAS deny you access to your contract..

Customer Response • Aug 09, 2020

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: Car shield continues to demonstrate their unwillingness or inability to decipher the details surrounding my claim and are trying to find every possible way to get out of their responsibility in regard to reimbursing the repairs done to the vehicle in question. As I have stated many times before I'm aware that seals and gaskets as stand alone repairs are not covered under the policy in question. I again direct car shield to look at the repairs done to the vehicle and the timeline surrounding the repairs. As AAS stated the vehicle had extensive repairs performed some that I know are not covered under the policy that I have. These include repairs such as headlight restoration and the attempt to repair the broken header screw on the engine block which is the aftermarket exhaust that you claim was installed. That is what the repair was billed under. I again direct all parties to look at the repairs and you will see that the oil pump was replaced as well as the seals and gaskets as part of one big engine maintenance package. With all of the repairs being performed at the same time as it states in the contract Car shield should be more than willing to cover the repairs as it meets the guidelines set fourth in the signed contract. I would also like to point out Car shield's inability to discern details and time lines. In the last response it is stated that AAS believes the client was just having repairs done to have them done. I would like to direct your attention to the dates on the documents and the letters associated with both. The claim involving the oil pump and leaking gaskets and seals is from May of 2020 through June of 2020 and is the primary focus of this complaint. The second portion involving the water pump, thermostat, and alternator are from a second older claim that is from January of 2020. The second older claim was submitted twenty-four to four right hours after the May/June claim after speaking with Carshield staff and mentioning that I had other repairs performed in the beginning of the year but actually forgot that I had car shield at the time. Car shield staff suggested that I submit the claims as they may still be covered as no set timeline for repair reimbursement was outlined in the initial consultation. As a customer I'm supposed to stand by Carshield's decision when the response on a public forum cannot discern the difference in repairs that are almost six months apart and supported by your staff to file for reimbursement. How can you even attempt to deny a claim when you have combined separate claims into one big claim in attempt to disprove the complaint against your company. This entire issue can be resolved by issuing the refund for the seals and gaskets based on a timeline confirmation from ***. All that literally has to be done is to contact the repair facility and ask them what work was done, and when.

Sincerely

Very displeased with CarShield. My trucks been at my mechanic for a few months now waiting to get repaired. The claims apparently been approved a few weeks ago and American Auto Shield is waiting for my mechanic to get quotes together only twist is my mechanic has had those quotes for 2 weeks now trying to get in contact with them but they never answer there phones or return calls so I’m here in the middle having to be the middle man between everything. Just seems at this point there dodging my mechanics calls to avoid moving forward with my claim. My claim number is ***.

How long 2 weeks today I dropped my truck off and you guys have failed to take appropriate action. Dragging your feet, 2 inspections, I've spent around 6 hours on the phone and you were supposed to source parts Friday. Yet on Monday afternoon nothing had been done. They continued to take money off of a card I was using only one time. This happened for over 9 months. I never authorized it for more than one month. I disputed and won a judgement from my credit card for 3 months. I want the rest returned to me.

I filed a claim with Carshiek on my BMW, My car had drive train malfunction, I had the BMW call carshield to file the claim and was informed that carshield would not cover. Also BMW said I had a malfunction in the door handle mechanism that was causing my battery to drain and they said it was a electrical issue, which Carshield said it covers, but they refuse to cover that. Their pathetic tow service only covers 10 miles. My lord. I've also been waiting over 2 months for the amazon gift cards that were promised to be here in 1 month. Always and excuse. On the initial phone conversation I was told these type of issues would be covered, which I felt they bait consumers in to believe. I feel so scammed. It's almost impossible to talk to a carshield rep., as of now for the 3rd time I've been on call back from them for over 2 hrs. The recording always says handling more than unusual back log. Lol. My resolution would be for them to cover the issues related to my car that was promised when I signed up. And send my gift cards at least.Pl

They are rude and totally unprofessional and high presser sales people. I hung up on the sales rep after the second call. Will not do business with CarShield .0 rating

I took my 2009 BMW to the dealership on 7/9/2020 because I couldn't drive it and the transmission malfunction message came on. After a diagnostic test was conducted the dealership informed me I needed a new transmission. They filed a claim with Car Shield sending over all the documents needed. For six days they tried to contact an adjuster for approval of repairs which are covered under warranty. I have the Power Train Silver with roadside service. When trying to contact customer service or an adjuster we had to wait on Hold for 1-3 hours and sometimes after waiting they hung up the phone. Finally today an adjuster contacted the dealership and denied my claim saying it was an electronic part which is not covered under my policy. The part is not electronic. The hydraulic which controls the gears is locked up. There is a sensor on the component but it's not the sensor. With the Power Train Silver plan the transmission and internal components are covered. There are sensors all over this car. The price of the part is $3,136.35. There is no sensor that cost that much. I called back to customer service at Car Shield spoke with Tiffany who transferred over to Repair Century to again speak to an adjuster because in the notes she didn't see where the dealership said it was an electronic part. I was on hold for 1 1/2 hours and no one got on the phone. Yet they continue to debut my account for payment. The customer service Representative tole the dealership the repairs are covered under the warranty. I'm a nurse, I need my car. I can't get a rental unless I pay upfront and they only cover the rental if my claim is approved. This is a nightmare.

I feel car shield is a scam
Car shield left me in a bad position, I had car shield for a while my air went out so I wanted to put car shield to the test.
Every thing that could go wrong did, Car shield did not pay for nothing. I was out of 30O 00 thanks to car shield. I took the car in an inspection was done.
Car shield was call to confirm what they were paying? Car shield didn't cover anything and left me owing 300.00 dollar. I drop carshield immediately.
I need a warranty that's going to help me not hinder me and put me behind.
Till this day I paid for my car to get fixed on my own without a warranty.
With my past experience with car shield I would never refer nobody to carshield my opinion I just don't think they're good warranty company.

We have reviewed the notes from the claims department to obtain information about the repair claim you have referenced. Their notes indicate there was never a claim filed on your behalf. We do see notes of concerns you had with your vehicle. Unfortunately those concerns were deemed normal maintenance or were parts not listed for coverage under you contract terms. CarShield contracts come with a 30 day money back guarantee so our customers have a chance to review the contract and cancel should they find anything the don't like about the contract.
As requested, your account was cancelled on May 9, 2020. We are sorry to lose you as a CarShield customer.

CarShield is a fraud. If I could give them less than one star I would. I purchased my repair policy back in mid May, and was told I would have to drive 500 miles or have to wait 45 days for the policy to go into effect. I had taken my 2014 Audi Q5 to the dealership for routine maintenance and have them to check to see why the check engine light would come off and on. I left my vehicle with Audi and by the time I arrived home, I was contacted by the Service Advisor telling me that it was the timing chain and that I needed back brakes, and a couple of filters replaced. I am retired Navy and from the Department of Defense and bought the Audi brand new as well as a couple of new BMWs and at least 7 other new vehicles and know that the timing chain normally don’t have to be replaced in higher end vehicles and mine has not even reached 100k miles yet. But what really made me want to get other opinions is; how fast the determination was made and the cost. I went back and got my vehicle and took it to another foreign import car repair and they could not figure out what was wrong and called Audi and 30 minutes later, told me the same thing. It did not sit well with me, so I took my vehicle home and parked it. I decided to go to a different Audi outside the city to get the vehicle fixed. I told them that two places had told me it was the timing chain and they told me that they would have to do their own inspection and testing to be sure. It took them 5 days because of the 4th of July holiday to do their testing and the Service Advisor there contacted me and said my timing chain is fine that it was the Drive Cam, NOT the TIMING CHAIN and that they had their Master Mechanic to do the inspection and testing. Now we are at 10 July; two months after I purchased the warranty. I filed a claim and it all went downhill from there. I played phone tag with CarShield for a week and so did the Service Advisor. We sent them all the requested documents and we kept being told that CarShield would be contacting us with the approval to fix my Audi. Finally, last night, I get a call from American CarShield, Claims Rep, informing me that my claim was being denied, because I did not allow for the first Audi to replace my timing chain and that I had drove the vehicle from Audi. It gets even more bazaar. I called today to cancel my warranty with them, and was told that they would help my save some money on those repairs and gave me a number to call. I called that number and was told that CarShield could ship used parts to the dealer and that would save me money. I said no thank you. I called CarShield back yet again to cancel my warranty and was told that I didn’t qualify to get my vehicle repaired because I had not drove 500 miles and had the policy for 45 days, which is straight bull. They never intended to repair my vehicle and wasted over a week of back and forth phone calls. Additionally, I was told that the first Audi called them and told them that I refused to let them replace the timing chain and drove off in the vehicle. I told them why would I pay over 4K in unnecessary repairs? Then they would come back and say later that I need the drive cam replaced. I’m DONE!

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
We contacted your service contract administrator to obtain information on the repair claim you have referenced. Their notes indicate your repair facility diagnosed a timing chain issue before purchase of your contract. Since those repairs were not made at the time of diagnosis, your claim has been denied as a pre-existing condition.
CarShield will refund your payments in full as a gesture of goodwill. You can expect one payment back to the VISA ending *** and the remaining balance will be sent via check within 7-10 business days. As requested, your account was cancelled on July 17, 2020.

I purchased a vehicle extended warranty for my 2005 Honda Ex. The Honda Dealer. I asked them if the engine and all component are covered. They told me yes it was I asked them certain questions like is the following covered engine block, Transmission Engine. Power steering. Starter etc. Then I took my car in to the repair shop because it started acting up. I was informed by the service adviser that the heads needed to be repaired as well as the Head Gasket. I was told the head Gasket is not covered but if the heads need to be repaired a new Head Gasket is needed. The Head Gasket is one part of the compomant to the engine. I told the Car Sheild Rep.
I I'll pay out of pocket for the head gasket. If that was the issue.
