I have a contract with car shield for my 2011 Ford Fiesta (#***). My car has been in the shop for over a week because the ford dealership absolutely cannot get in touch with the claims department. I feel like I’m asking the bare minimum of car shield JUST ANSWER THE PHONE. I have been without a car because y’all can’t answer the phone. I have a child that I have to get back and forth to school on the bus in the heat because I’m without a car. The phone hangs up when I try to leave a voice mail , the people at the dealership have been sitting behind a phone trying to get in touch even leaving several voicemails it’s quite ridiculous that I have to come to the Revdex.com to report a claim just to get y’all to answer the phone and people are having far worse problems than me and I’m just asking the bare minimum PICK UP THE PHONE CLAIMS DEPARTMENT!!

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: That’s actually 2 lies. 1 because the dealership has yet to speak with somebody to put in a claim because he hasn’t even contacted anyone. 2 because if they were to contact me within 48 hours of the claim and the claim was put in on the 24th that means they would have called today at the latest and I still haven’t heard from anyone.

Sincerely

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most American Auto Shield ("AAS") employees are working remotely; as a result, some callers are experiencing connection issues and extended hold times. Likewise, during the week of July 20, 2020, we experienced interruptions to our claims and telephone systems. Our systems are now fully operational and we are working to reach out to all claimants who were affected during the previous week. We realize these issues are not acceptable and certainly do not reflect our commitment to provide the highest levels of service. We apologize for the customer’s inconvenience and look forward to providing excellent service in the future. We have escalated this with leadership in the Claims Department and you should receive a call back by the end of the following business day.

Per the contract the mechanic called car shield to file a claim for a service and for the past six days it has not been approved from 7/21/20 to date and I was told that it would be approved the same day. Secondly I was told I am eligible for a car rental for work commute and I have yet to receive that, because of this I am at risk of losing my job. I’ve contact the mechanic and car shield several times since the 21st and have yet to receive approval for the claim. Lastly per conversation with the mechanic it has been told to me that this is frequent with car shield.

CarShield Response • Jul 28, 2020

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

In review of the notes in your file, you claim was approved today, July 28th, 2020 in the amount of $1,394.21. We do apologize in any delay in your claim. Our claims department had intermittent phone and internet issues last week that slowed down the progression of all new and pending claims.

We trust this adequately addresses the complaint. Thank you for being a loyal CarShield customer.

This is a horrible company. Extremely long Wait time over 4 hours. Horrible approval process, and non reimbursement if car fixed prior to approval

I dropped my Car off at the shop early in the morning, gave them the information for Car Shield, they called me that afternoon to let me know the problem with my car and told me that the following day they would have the part in and would have my care finished the following afternoon. They also told me they had not been able to speak with anyone at car shield due to the long wait time.

The following day I walked to the dealership and when I got there they still had not been able to speak to anyone. I called and waited on hold and was able to speak to a representative and get the claim started. Then the problem started.

The representative put me in a cue to speak to an adjuster, I was on hold for 4 hours and got no answer, I then called from another phone from the office in the waiting room and was told by that representative that I was on hold in the wrong cue. She got me to the right cue and I was on hold for about 30 mins and my claim denied even though I had the Platinum Plan which according to the representative that sold it covered everything with the car.

I then called to cancel my plan and the day got even worse.
When I told the lady that I had been on hold for over 4 hours she said and I quote "You ain't had nothing better to do than hold yo phone up on hold for 4 hours" I told her as a full time nursing student in an accelerated program with 2 jobs I had plenty to do.
She then said "Well your car ain't going to just get fixed over night" So I told her that my car was actually ready and it was fixed over night and would have been fixed sooner if they didn't have to order the part, She then said "well that ain't how it works with Car Shield".

So even if the part was covered if I would have paid out of pocket prior to it being approved I would not have gotten reimbursed.

I was reimbursed however, I still have gotten a call back regarding my complaint and its been over 2 weeks now.

This company should be shut down due to the unprofessionalism and the false advertisements

I have a contract with Car Shield. I have never had service until now. I had my vehicle towed on 07/22/2020. It is out of commission. I am 70 years old and need my transportation, I still work. The mechanics shop attempted to call Car Shield at least 5 times and there is "no way" to get to the claim #. They say they are out of service. I called also and tried to get a hold of them with no success. We need a claim number to get my car fixed by the certified mechanic. It's obvious they are refusing service. Calling for 3 days without help. I'm stranded. I gave the mechanics and their staff these numbers because they told me their claim number was down: I gave them the other numbers to see if we could get through.... ***, *** and ultimately ***. NO ONE EVERY ANSWERED AND NO ONE EVER CALLED BACK. They called at least 5 times. My car is fixed, now sitting at the shop and I can't have it until Car Shield comes through with a claim!!

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

The notes from the claim department indicate they spoke with your repair facility yesterday, July 27th, 2020 regarding your claim. Your repair facility indicated the cause of failure on your vehicle was a drive belt and tensioner. Unfortunately, those are parts not listed for coverage according to your service contract terms. We do offer a part sourcing program to help with the cost of parts and to negotiate on labor but the repair facility you chose does not accept parts to be shipped in nor will they negotiate on the labor. If you would like to try a different repair facility, please callour customer service department and they can help you get the car moved. They can be reached at ***

Signed up with Carshield for their Auto Warranty. On 7-13-2020 I had to take my car in because my air condition was not working. My mechanic called Carshield and told them what was wrong (air condition fans) they told him it was not covered by my warranty. I called Carshield directly to find out why. I spoke with Carmen from customer service and she said that particular part was not covered. I had told her it was my understand that air condition was covered and she said not parts that was associated with the compressor. I told her then why have the warranty if it's not going to work for me. Her reply was it's the GOLD package my reply was it doesn't matter that it's gold or not if they won't honor the contract. I told her I was better off putting that $100 in a saving account and that way I could use that money to pay for repairs instead of giving it to them and reaping me off. I asked her about cancelling the policy and getting a refund for this month since they weren't honoring the service I was paying for. She became very rude and said no and hung up. I picked my car up and the mechanic said it wouldn't be long before my fans stop completely to watch them so it doesn't cause other problems. Two days later I had to take my car back 7/20/2020 to the mechanic and now the compressor has completely stopped working. He called Carshield and had to leave a message and has not received a phone call back to this day. I have called 3 to 4 times a day to find talk to someone to figure out why no one is calling my mechanic back. I have spoken with so many people that half of them are rude and hangs up on you (***), blame the problem on the COVID, their phone system is down and they are working on it, won't let you talk to a supervisor, tells you they are working from home and can't do anything, one of them did recommend to complete the online request and that they will respond quick that way. immediately tell my mechanic that and still has not heard anything and that was on 7/22/2020, finally spoke with Keydra and she took my information and said she would have a supervisor call me back, received a request to complete a servery and saw a 800 number to reach a supervisor, I called the number and I have been on hold already for 35 mins, I am guessing that is a joke. All the times I have asked to speak with a supervisor I have been told there wasn't one available or they couldn't give out a number for them. I don't see how legally they can get away with doing this to their customers. I have re-confirmed with my mechanic they have not heard anything from car shield so they can not say they have called and left a message for them because they do not have voicemail to begin with.

As long as they follow through with what they are offering and I receive all moneys back. I agree to their offer.

I would like to keep this open for 30 days to ensure they do what they are suppose to do and I will be more than glad to send another response letting the Revdex.com know I have received all moneys and I am satisfied. Just don't want to jump ahead before it's completed.

Thank you for your time on this matter.

I took my 2009 Ford Explorer, SUV to Crown Ford Fayetteville, NC., 20 Jun and it was diagnosis with a bad/worn timing chain and it was also time for engine to be service. After repeated calls almost daily to claims department by me my and service manager they send an inspector out to dealership 1 Jul. Prior to 1 Jul, we would call and leave messages and it would be 5-6 hours before a call was returned if return and at one point, service manager was informed it would be at least (7 hours) before someone would be able to return his call. In the mean time, I had rented a vehicle for my run about. Inspector arrived and informed service manager to add 2 quarts of oil and noise would go away. There was no sign of oil leakage or waste anywhere on vehicle. Vehicle was serviced as scheduled and timing chair noise went away. I was informed of the changes and I picked up my vehicle Thursday and informed service manager, this was not going to work. I called service manager Friday, Jul 3 and informed him the noise was still there and return vehicle to Ford Repair center 6 Jul 2020. Informed Car Shield of circumstances and service manager was informed 13 Jul to tear down front of engine to verify timing chain was bad. Today is 23 Jul 2020 and nothing from Car Shield Representative for inspector review. Car Shield is false advertising for immediate and accurate repair by your choice of dealer. I have spoken to representatives from Car Shield and they even admit they have concerns and problems with telephone and inspectors.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

We have requested information from the claims department on the repair claim you have referenced. Their notes indicate they have requested an adjuster reach back out to the repair facility as they are in need of additional diagnosis. There have been several attempts to reach the repair facility regarding the further diagnosis but they have not received a response. A repair cannot be authorized until the repair facility is able to show a cause of failure and provide an estimate.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: When the adjuster finally visited the service shop, the service advisor was prompted to add two quarts of oil o/a 1 Jul 2020 and informed the certified mechanic and service advisor, that this would stop the timing chain noise. As stated previously, my vehicle was due service but there was no indication of an oil loss under, over or above the engine. My maintenance records are maintained at Crown Ford for review of repairs and maintenance. I received my vehicle that Wednesday and before I could arrive home, I called the service manager that the noise was still there. I took my vehicle back to service manager that Friday (Jul 3) and he agreed noise was still there and asked that I bring it back Monday (Jul 6). O/A 10 July, the service manager was informed that he would have to tear the engine down to find the cause of the noise. Now, it took a representative from Car Shield from o/a 14 Jun to 10 Jul 2020 to inform the service manager what was accurately needed to find source of failure other than to add oil. Service manager Steven has been waiting for an opening bay so that my vehicle maybe torn apart so that an adjuster can verify that there is a failure in the engine somewhere. The two repairs should be collectively considered as one (1) because corrective action was not authorized by Car Shield. Car Shield is a ripe off and I will stand behind every word printed and with proof from service department of Crown Ford.

Sincerely

Customer Response • Aug 03, 2020

I am very disappointed, it is August 3 2020 and still the claim has not been approved that is a month

I subscribed to Carshield after receiving numerous emails and phone calls offering coverage. I was not planning to buy any insurance for my vehicle mechanical coverage because I have cosmetic coverage and was not interested in another expense. I finally accepted the contract offer after negotiating from $154.99 initially, down to an agreed bank draft from my account of $114 a month. This was on Saturday,June 13,2020. On. Monday,July 13,2020 my car broke down and I had to use my manufacturer roadside warranty to have it towed to the nearest dealer. The dealership finished their diag and submitted their cost for labor and repairs for a timing chain issue . At the time the claims adjuster was very efficient at recording mechanics'notes and fault codes giving to him on a 3way call between the shop, myself, and the claim adjuster. This was on July16,2020,and at this time the claim adjuster advised us (the shop specialist and I ) that he would finish the claim notes and we will be placed on a brief hold to speak with a powertrain claims adjuster for authorization. After 2 or more hours of being on hold (both the shop and I),the call was dropped and no further attempt from the Carshield staff has been made to address my claim. I have called numerous times and is either placed on hold indefinitely for 2 hours or the phone person assures me that someone from the claims department will contact me. Its July24,2020 and after emails from myself, the shop as well as faxed information from the shop from the vehicle's diag. No one has responded to neither the shop nor myself.

I am rejecting this response because the resolution does not address actual contract details to my account. The Carshield representative claims that my claim did not meet the requirements for repairs? Contradicting this assessment, the mileage that was recorded at the beginning of my contract was altered to support your(Carshield's) decision to deny my claim. I was indeed outside of the warranty grace period until a representative of Carshield altered the contract mileage and replaced it with a "car fax calculation". I definitely intend to take this matter to civil court if necessary to achieve a fair legal remedy

Thank you for reaching out again.

American Auto Shield client relations department has reviewed the mileage on your contract due to the *** report showing the last reported mileage from before you purchased this vehicle as higher than contract start mileage. This mileage from *** report was used in their mileage calculator to adjust the start mileage for contract. We requested the title from you to help determine the correct mileage but the title lists the millage as exempt. You have also stated you have no other records to confirm start mileage. At this time we do not have any other way of confirming millage from start of contract and your claim is denied for pre-existing condition due to not knowing the exact mileage on your vehicle at the time of purchase.

We have already processed your refund in full and you should be receiving it shortly.

I am rejecting this response because: There were no issues with my mileage until the claim was in the final stage or until the time that the claim was to be paid. Again, there were no reason for reps of Auto Shield to calculate mileage on the vehicle because the mileage was submitted with the payment at the onset of my contract. American Auto Shield was not authorized under any provisions of the contract to manipulate the mileage submitted at the time of the contract. It is apparent that your company has been accustomed to rewriting contracts and altering these legally binding documents without any consequences. I will not entertain the argument that I was dishonest in my submission of my mileage at the time of the beginning of the contract but on the contrary I will be seeking legal remedies for damages stemming from American Auto Shield admitted violation of the contract through altering the terms without prior agreement between both parties.

I am rejecting this response because:unlike many of your patrons I understand contract laws and know full well that when engaged in a written agreement there is no adjudication without the consent and approval of both parties. You have stated that your company has the sole right to alter or determine changes pertaining to the said contract. This is not the law. Filed a claim for the first time and it was a huge hassle and the major issue making my car break down wasn’t fixed. My fuel pump is shot and my car would’t start and it would die in traffic sometimes. I am disabled and have lots of Doctors appointments I have to make it to. Thats why I purchased the insurance. Subaru service found an issue with the AC they did cover. Their inspector looked at the vehicle and the fuel pump happened to work when he was there so they wouldn’t cover it. My car was in the shop for almost two months and the dealership said they were putting them through so many hoops they were such a hassle to deal with they wanted to pull their hair out and that was the cause of it taking so long. One of the men supervising my case said they asked him to call so many different people and one of those people made him wait on the phone for over 4 hours before someone answered. My car set at the dealership so long my $200 optima red top battery was damaged and now I have to buy a new battery I can’t afford. On my way to my auto parts store it died at a stop light at a busy intersection on an 8 lane highway killing the battery. Had to call a tow truck and have it taken back to the shop while sitting in my car in the middle of a busy highway in 97 degree weather with a humidity index of about 90 with no hazard lights while traffic swerved, yelled and blew horns and threw fingers. Fire and Police had to come and it was a big ordeal. I told them three mechanics said it needed a new fuel pump and if it died or put me in a bad spot I was going to report this experience to the Revdex.com. Coustomer service reps are great and they tried but were told no. The dealership tried. No. The part has to be completely failed they said. I’m giving them one more chance to prove to me they will repair my car in full the way they advertise using celebrities that don’t need break down insurance. If not I am buying an extended warranty from my dealer which they advised I do anyway. Maybe I won’t have to buy a new battery in between car repairs in which my car isn’t even repaired and breaks down 3 miles down the road after leaving the service center.

I’ve had my truck at the shop with the transmission pulled out since June 14th. I was told by car shield as long as my service lights weren’t on and I had under 150,000 miles I started my payments in April/May this happened in June. I had to wait for 3 weeks for someone to come and look at my truck. Unfortunately they never answer so my wife’s and she’s waited 24 hours before getting a call back and then it’s a run around. They ask my wife questions that she really couldn’t answer since she does not drive it. Because she didn’t know the correct dates that disqualified me for getting the repairs.

Carshield told me told me they would take my car and look at what's wrong with it, they took it to a local auto shop on ***. They came and picked up my car, took it there and they have not called me back. The car has been sitting there and has not been worked on. Carshield has to authorize the repair, but they have not given the auto shop the right information and they keep giving me and him the run around. They do not tell me what needs to be done to repair it, but they still continue to bill me for services they are not providing.

I needed my car to be fixed at from car shield because I had a contract with them, for over a week now my car has been sitting at the dealership and the dealership has been trying to get ahold of them for several days now, because of the delay and my car sitting there so long, I had to pay for it out of pocket of $402.00

I have been paying Car Shield for 3 months! When I take my vehicle to be repaired they refuse to even respond to the mehanics! They have to wait for hours to get a respond! To no avail! When I called them I get the run around!I have yet gotten anything done to my vehicle!I have spoken to managers to no avail!

I think people are being paid to give good reviews.
The absolute worst. Their systems have not worked in over a week. My car is sitting at a shop for a week and I cannot even use my car shield coverage to get a rental car bc the systems are down!!! Plus they told me I can only get a rental for 4 days IF approved. Needless to say... I’m cancelling. I’ve lost money on monthly payments. AND I’m paying for my own repair!!!

They say it’s all due to COVID but my repair shop told me they had a customer from Jan still waiting to get repair approved!!!

Also Revdex.com has them rated an F and they have several class action lawsuits out on them. Just be warned!!! (I didn’t do my research u til afterwards)

Car Shield mislead and misrepresented their coverage to me verbally. Never received a policy until I took car in and was asked for policy number and told it was highly unusual not to have a policy or number!!! I allowed this company to draft a $89. premium monthly and they refused to
cover what I was verbally told was covered plus had to pay $100 deductible when service work
was done. I made the mistake of paying well over a thousand and recommend that others
save the premium amount for repairs when they arise. Car Shield is a huge ***!!!

CarShield Response • Aug 19, 2020

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.
We see that your claim was authorized minus your $100 deductible on July 9, 2020. We have reviewed the sales call and you were informed about the deductible the day your purchased your vehicle service contract.
Your request to cancel your policy was processed on July 22, 2020. We are sorry to lose you are a CarShield customer.

They say they cover automatic transmissions, but they don't specifically exclude intrinsic parts of the transmission like the valve body or the solenoid packs. This is what they told my GMC dealer. Even if you read the fine print, it's still a lie.

CarShield Response • Aug 19, 2020

Thank for bringing this to our attention.
As noted in Section B, paragraph 2, of your contract, electrical failures in the transmission, regardless of location, are not listed for coverage under you contract terms.
We see that you requested your account be cancelled on July 22, 2020. That requested has been processed. We are sorry to lose you as a CarShield customer.

I bought a policy at the end of February before a camping trip, take the trip in May and come back and my f250 transmission is slipping and won’t want to go into gear at all pulling my camper. I had a claim started in May 2020, and it took until July before an adjusted came, and then all of the sudden this week, they cancel my contract because my truck has a flatbed and accused it of being a commercial vehicle despite having normal insurance, and no LLC or numbers on the door. I just built a flatbed because my stock bed was rusted out. These people are *** and make you spend 20-40 minutes on hold and the shop hold time is even longer, but what gets me is rather than cover my transmission they just cancel me and I have to call to cancel investigate. They’re refunding my money so they say but what about all the time my trucks been in the shop since May. I plan to follow up with a lawyer.

CarShield Response • Aug 19, 2020

The notes on your account indicate your contract was cancelled by your administrator for modifications. Vehicle with modifications are not eligible for CarShield coverage.
We see that you were refunded in full on July 23, 2020.

Customer Response • Aug 19, 2020

Yes the modification was a flatbed I built myself because my other bed rusted out it doesn’t even have a goose neck hitch and I told the guy who happily sold me the $150 a month policy that I had a flatbed

Eventually completely satisfied with the coverage. There were a couple of little hurdles that I had to get over but other than that but ultimately completely satisfied with the coverage.

My claim was opened on May 28th 2020. My car has been at the shop since then. This Thursday I will be without a car for two months. After numerous phone calls between myself and the dealership trying to contact Carshield....I was finally able to proceed with getting my transmission done. There was questions about the transfer case which I did keep up on maintenance and they won't cover it. Anyhow, Carshield is supposed to be sending over a remanufactured transmission to the dealership and it has yet to be received. The delearship has been waiting on the part for almost two weeks. When you try to call, there is no option to speak with a representative. The only option you get is to receive a call back. I have yet to receive a call back. I have displayed nothing but patience with this company. I just want the part to be sent or allow the dealership to use their own transmission so I can have my car back. This needs to be addressed asap. Thank you
