This company has false advertisement, I have needed.help when my vehicle needed repair and they always have a reason not to repair and as for Rental car that they claim to offer they will not honor that. I have to fight them every step of the way, they want to use generic parts or used parts to fix vehicle not what they offer, also I have had to open a account to pay for my vehicle to be fixed. They find a way to get their money every month even when cancelled, but will not honor their TV ADVERTISMENT they are ripping people off. I went without a vehicle for a week and 2days.

I would not recommend this company at all I never heard good things about it I have a 2018 Hyundai Sonata I never needed ther services I just paid them $99 every month for nothing I guess... Today is March 25th I had a payment due on March 16th the rep called and said I have until the 30th to pay in told them my job paid me off due to Coronavirus and she didn’t care a warranty that I don’t hear good things about is not worth keeping. I see a lot of people pay $100 Monthly and they go by different company names which is weird.

CarShield Response • Apr 08, 2020

There are many different service contract markets out there. We are not affiliated with them in any way. You requested your service contract be cancelled on March 25, 2020. Your coverage has been cancelled as you requested and you are in the processes of being refunded the 3 payments you have made.

I PURCHASED A WARRANTY THROUGH CARSHIELD AND ALL THEY DO IS GET YOUR MONEY I HAVE A 2012 GMC 1500 AND THE MOTOR WENT OUT AND IT WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT THEY TAKE YOU THROUGH SO MUCH FOR REPAIRS AND THEN SEND YOU TO ANOTHER SCAM COMPANTY CALL AMERICAN AUTO SHIELD OUT OF LAKEWOOD,CO. THATS JUST SCAMMING WITH THEM I ENDED UP LOOSING ALL WAY AROUND AND ALSO THEY REVIEWS ARE FAKE THEY PAY PEOPLES TO LEAVE GOOD REVIEWS TAKE A MINUTE AND READ BEFORE PURCHASED NO JUST LEAVE THEM ALONE

CarShield Response • Mar 31, 2020

We contacted your service contract administrator on your behalf regarding this repair. They stated that a diagnosis to cause of failure was requested in the form of a leakdown test. This test would be covered by your administrator as part of the repair if the failure is listed as covered in your contract terms.

You did not want to authorize the diagnostic test, rather requested cancellation of your contract.

Your contract has been cancelled and you are in the process of receiving a refund of payments made.

Resepctfully,

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

I’ve been looking to purchase an extended warranty for my truck I got a call the other day from a Carshield representative I asked them to take me of their calling list they asked why I wasn’t interested and I told that my car dealer Warned me to stay away from them that they’re the worst to deal with and in more detail 1 out 10 claims called in will get paid. So as I know and with all reviews for those looking to purchase an extended warranty go with your dealer offers. Carshield is a fraud and stay away is for the best. Save your money and time they’re not worthy at all..

We are sorry to hear your car dealer has had a bad experience with our company. Please feel free to contact us should you ever decide to give us a try.

I have Car Shield insurance after my car warranty expired. My car had the engine light on, so I took the car to a Ford dealership in Sterling, VA, after the car check-up was done, the car diagnosed an Over heated and the engine coolant over temperature light came on. Shut car off and light went off. Total charge was $1,642.00.
After first repair I went again since the engine turn on again, so I took it back to the same dealership and the technician advised customer that the head gasket is showing signs of possible pressure, being lost in cylinder number 1, if check engine light does come back on the over heating problem that vehicle came in for is going to be fixed today. And total charge for this time was $3,775.40.
The service advisor from the Ford dealership try to get in with Car Shield customer service and there was no answer from Car Shield insurance, which I was doing monthly payments before this big issues happened to my car. After fixing the car Car Shield told me that they were not responsible for this issue and refused to pay the repairmen bills. All this happened on 04-25-2019.

CarShield Response • Mar 30, 2020

We contacted your service contract administrator regarding the repair claim you have brought to our attention. They stated that your claim was denied in July of 2019 due to grill shutter not listed as a covered component and blown head gasket due to continued operation causing overheat. Per your service contract terms, these failures are not covered.

Your service contract was cancelled as you requested in July of 2019.

I purchased a policy from this company for my vehicle 3 years ago,I had to tow my vehicle to a dealership and they had my vehicle 8 months and continuously called Carshield for approval request, which they did not respond in timely manner, and eventually denied the repairs. This company has failed to honor the coverage they advertise to consumers.

Car Shield Adverstised as being a company that would cover issues when your car breaks down. The commercials state Engine Repair, Transmissions and other big repair bills that a consumer can get when the car breaks down. When I called them up to get insurance on our 2012 Honda it was because we were not sure if it was better then the dealership warranty that we were offered. When talking to the person the phone they said it would be a bumper to bumper warranty and cover the car. So I thought with the number of people that endorsed CarShield that this should work for what we need just in case we needed it. Now we bought a Honda thinking we would never need to use the insurance but just in case. Come to find out the Honda we bought ended up needing a piston and ring job. We called CarShield and on January 24th, 2020 and put in my case about my issue with our 2012 Honda with them. I was told by CarShield they would not cover my van because the 2012 van fell out of the Platinum coverage and it was not CarShield’ responsibility to help me out.
The person I spoke too, which I do not have their name, then hung up on me…. I thought “holy crap” this is how customers are treated. The Customer Service in dealing with the issue was horrible but it was shocking to learn that we had no coverage as we thought it would cover engine repairs. Then once again with our Honda we have another issue which was another shock as we had a cracked head in the engine. Again we called CarShield on March 17, 2020 and the mechanic at our Honda said this should be covered as Honda's warranty would have covered this issue. So we had hope..but come to find out CarShield informed us they don’t cover this part under our plan…. I have to be honest with you I am not sure what they do cover with the Platinum package I bought from them. So we are out another $1300 due to CarShield not covering any problems. The Adverstisement they use is FALSE and should be changed to represent that the coverage is based on what plan you have with the company. Also they should be clear about engine repairs as it should be noted that they do not cover anything that is not lubricated...which is crazy.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: our mechanic mentioned that the damage was caused by a water pump. They said that is what caused the issue. We have dealt with this issue a number of times and every time the answer is NO. There is no coverage on anything that is mentioned in the contract and the way it is advertised is false on commercials. Even our mechanic at *** mentioned that this should be covered based on what they found. They can call *** up and talk to the certified Mechanic.

Garbage.took my car to the infiniti dealership for cv axle problems...even with the gold coverage denied my repair said a busted dust boot was the cause of the problem.thats a part of the axle...can someone tell me at what mileage and when a rubber dust boot will bust and leak all the axle grease out.makes no sense.this was my first time doing a claim and it has been a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE.

CarShield Response • Apr 08, 2020

There are many components covered under your powertrain gold service contract. Your contract lists all covered components in the terms you received. Unfortunately a torn axle boot is not listed in your contract terms as a covered item.

Do not do business with Car Shield. It is a rip off. They do not cover what they say they are.
I called them multiple times to ask them would a repair be covered, they told me yes and found out they did not cover the repair. They find lot holes to justify why they will not cover the repair.
Horrible experience. If it’s too good don’t do it.
They didn’t cover my window that didn’t go down and they didn’t cover my engine light that was on.
They use used parts and justify the timing of labor. Don’t worry about asking for a supervisor, they don’t do anything either.

CarShield Response • Apr 08, 2020

Your service contract administrator shows they have paid a repair claim for your AC on 3/18/2020 in the amount of $597.79 and are waiting for verification of repair needed for your driver side window issue. Please contact ***, your service contract administrator, at ***, for further information on this pending repair.

We contacted carshield and ask for the best level of coverage two payments left we find out that we do not have the best level of coverage due to a brake down upon further investigation we find out that the sales rep should have and could have clicked a box(emission) that would have given us the best level of coverage based on the year and miles of our vehicle, I contacted carshield talk to *** and *** the supervisor they assured me that they would do something about this based on me being a consumer calling and asking for the best level of coverage and understanding that I had the best level of coverage upon further investigation talking to other companies I understand that these warranty companies like carshield do have a reserved for small situation and misunderstandings like this where they can take care of this and help the consumer situation I have yet to have any satisfaction with this particular claim and of course I feel like this was a bait and switch just to get the sale but not looking out for the consumer and making sure the consumer have the best level of coverage as requested. *** tried to get American Auto Shield to negotiate or outsource parts and labor not sure how that's working however he did inform me that they can add the additional coverage(emission) for a surcharge that will make my last 2 payments go up. As I started to have heart palpitations I realized this is what they do to everyone just to get a sale that day not looking out for the consumers they have great marketing and advertising spend alot of money to get big names to mislead or tell you one thing and give you another by not making sure it's the best level 2 payments left we would have never sacrificed our coverage for cost we knew we wanted the best level of coverage and that's what we asked of Car Shield. Car Shield should make sure people get what they ask for not what they want them to have.

CarShield Response • Mar 26, 2020

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We appreciate the opportunity to respond to and help in the resolution of this matter.

We contacted your service contract administrator, American Auto Shield (AAS), to get information on the repair claim you have brought to our attention. AAS stated that they have paid over $1900.00 on covered repairs since you purchased this contract. The most recent claim had $623.14 paid toward a failed master cylinder replacement.

The 02 sensor failure was not listed as a covered component under your contract terms. You can add emissions coverage going forward, but that coverage had not been added as a surcharge initially and does not apply to this 02 sensor repair.

Again, you have had over 1900.00 in covered repairs thus far.

CarShield Response • Apr 08, 2020

In your service contract and during the initial sale, it is stated that authorization is required from the administrator before a repair is completed. "In the event any repair is performed without prior authorization from the administrator, the repair will not be covered".
This is in place so the administrator can determine the cause of failure and then proceed with the repair.

On 3/10/20, I contacted CarShield to cancel my account. At the end of the call, I was told by the customer service representative that my account had been cancelled and that no further charges would be made to my credit card. I also received an account cancellation confirmation email shortly after the call that stated the same thing. The very next day, (3/11/20) my credit card was charged $99 by CarShield, and in the app, my plan still shows as "Active".

CarShield Response • Mar 26, 2020

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We see that this matter has already been resolved.

You had called in at 4:57 on the evening of March 10th. Your payment was due on March 11th. The late cancellation of your contract was not in time to stop they payment the next day.

The payment has already been refunded to your Mastercard as of March 16, 2020 in the amount of 99.00.

I had purchased a policy with them and have been paying on on it every month for about 2 years and the one time I had my vehicle brake down due to the engine going out which they say they cover I called them had it towed which they only cover half the tow bill then when its at the shop they said they have to do a complete tear down to diagnose the problem so they did then they denied my claim due to having some engine sludge in the engine I had submitted documents of maintenance one and recipes for the oil changes but its still denied for something every engine will get mechanics even told me every engine gets sludge in it so basically they say they cover the engine but in turn its never approved for something all engines will get over time so now I am out my $2400 in premiums I have paid to them on top I have to pay the shop almost $1000 for the tear down that carshild made them do. This company just steals money from people to make there CEO's richer I would advise no one ever do business with this scammer of a company or all they will be doing is giving there money away to rich CEO's. I had also canceled my policy with car shield that day which was right after I had a payment taken out and I had noticed that it was still showing current and my next payment due in a month so I changed my billing information to somewhere they could not bill me and sure enough they tried to bill me for the next month too and then got a notice in the mail that I owe them money then I got a letter in the mail from them saying I can get coverage by them for the same vehicle I had canceled for a higher price premium they do shady business and NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN FOR GOOD, and they need to give me back all the money they scammed me out of.

A complete rip off. They tell nothing but lies on those commercials. My AC stop working, I took it to the dealership and it was nothing back and forth fussing between the both companies. My car was at the dealership for two weeks, no rental car.

CarShield Response • Mar 20, 2020

This claim for your water pump was paid in the amount of 412.04. The repair claim was submitted on 6/19/2019 and authorized on 6/20/2019. Repair was completed and paid on 6/28/2019.

Customer Response • Mar 20, 2020

Like I said I took my car in for AC work and next thing I know it was three other things listed, my car was fine before taking it. I never received a rental car, I had to go through so much with this company til I was getting depressed due to not having my car for almost 2 weeks because of the back and forth Communication or non communication between the two companies. Your commercials make it seem as if you just take your car and everything is stress free. I explained that I have both parents that can't do for themselves and I needed some type of transportation. You all treated me unfairly and I stand by it along with everyone else that was witnessing what I was going through.

I have a problem with my engine. I took it to the dealership and they said that they engine needs to be replaced, they think, but the motor would have to be torn down. Carshield is saying they won't cover repairs if the engine is torn down.

If profit and gain comes before people and integrity, In the long run your business will not profit. Why doesn't honesty and a good reputation matter in most cases? Your profit would be greater in the long run!! You would have better reviews and a life long profitable business FYI in my opinion!!

The entire concept of Car Shield is a rip off! I suggest you all READ THE CONTRACT THOROUGHLY before paying (regardless of plan).

After thoroughly reviewing the contract, I now understand how it works. You (essentially) pay them a monthly fee. You need to wait 30 days (after sign up) to have any repairs (which is okay with me).

Here's the kicker. You pay $100 for the mechanic, but it HAS to be Car Shield approved, and you HAVE to get authorization prior to repairs. (Which means if you need a repair, you might need 3 TOWS from mechanic, to home, and back to mechanic; Car Shield needs to gives the okay FIRST and they're not opened on the weekends. This means if something happens, assuming it wasn't due to neglect, you have to have a mechanic diagnose BEFORE CarShield will pay.)

Majority of the MAJOR mechanical work is ONLY covered if it's in the way of the part that needs repair. And that's ONLY if it meets lubrication. This means things like ELECTRICAL TRANSMISSION WORK is not included. These are the kind of repairs that we need. Wouldn't shock me to know they get a cut from referrals to these mechanics =\

When you call to cancel, ITS A NIGHTMARE! Bless their hearts with their attempts at retention, but it gets to a point, you have to resist the temptation to be rude.

This is my 2nd time having to call CarShield to cancel (1st account was mom's), and BOTH TIMES I'd have to constantly repeat "I just want to cancel." Add this to the fact the agreement was for $109 and they were attempting to AUTO DEBIT the FIRST TRANSACTION (on 1st attempt) $114.

With these practices, I suggest you all find elsewhere. I wanted insurance for my vehicle as a safety net (in case I'm ever lazy). Guess I will use the money Id waste to CarShield and do it myself!

CarShield Response • Mar 20, 2020

Our service contract administrator do need to determine the cause of failure before they can give authorization and move forward with any repair claim submitted; per your contract terms. Customers also are required to take their vehicle to any ASE Certified mechanic for repairs so you are assured that your vehicle will be repaired properly. This is for your vehicles protection and your peace of mind. Our contract administrators have paid over 9 million dollars in covered repair claims in the last three months, alone.

Horrible! Started my policy February 8, 2020 and my policy info disappeared on the app and I call a month later to see if a new app is out. Turns out my card declined and was never notified because of a wrong month. No one ever called me, then I had to set it up again and have to do the wait period. It then turns out because of that I no longer qualify for the best plan based on the coverage. Worst company ever!

CarShield Response • Mar 20, 2020

Notes indicate that we were able to speak with you on March 13th and help you with a resolution to this matter. Please call our customer service department if you have any further questions. They are always happy to speak with you

CarShield buyers beware! I was told when I signed up they paid for preventive maintenance i.e. the timing chain I asked and they said yes! Took the truck to the Honda dealership today and now they say NO and I spoke with the adjuster. He even said that if it breaks and destroyed the engine they would still not fix it then and I would be responsible because I didn't fix the timing chain. What the *** is the use of a warranty if I can't use it to fix problems. The engine just started making a ticking noise today that is why I took it in. Signs of it going out. This company is a Scam. Buyer beware!

CarShield Response • Mar 20, 2020

Preventative maintenance is not covered under your contract terms. The timing belt is listed under covered components of your contract, if it fails; but not to be replaced as preventative maintenance. Failures pre-existing the effective date of your service contract are not listed for coverage. Please contact your service contract administrator with any further questions.
