They represented a great company, when actually it is a sham. My truck was in the shop and I had car shield. They would not send anyone out to look at it and in the end I had to pay the $750 bill. I also canceled Carshield afterwards, I suggest you do the same.

You purchased a monthly powertrain service contract for your 1999 Lexus. You inquired about the catalytic converter, which is not listed in your contract terms as a covered component.
Your service contract has been cancelled as you requested.

Bought carshield warranty on August 9, 2019. Truck blew up. I called and my mechanic called and they said I was 100% covered. Then it changed to 65% and now they say preexisting and they won't pay anything. My mechanic and I have probably spent 10 hours on the phone and talked to 8 to 10 people. It's like they just pass the buck. When I purchased my warranty I was told as soon as my payment was made I was 100% covered on everything. Now I have a claim and they aren't going to pay anything. I own my own business. I am a professional contractor for 45 years. Without a truck this is hurting my business tremendously. Would appreciate help in getting my truck fixed. Any questions or you need more information please don't hesitate to call.

We have reviewed your sales call. When you purchased your AutoGoldCard membership, it was explained in detail that is a repair negotiation membership, "this will not pay for your repairs but can save you from 10 to 30 percent off your repair bills". The sales representative you spoke with then went on to say that the membership also includes roadside assistance, battery service, tire service, fuel delivery service and towing. You can also use this negotiation service right away for any existing repairs.

The repair negotiation service was explained fully during the call, as was the cost of $19.99 per month for your membership.

I purchased a Carshield service called a Gold protection plan which covers all internally lubricated parts of a vehicle under the *** policy wherein it is underwritten that a contract holder shall not be liable for damages incurred after the contract start date if such components fail within the contract period. It also states that I should file a claim if a breakdown occurs. My Vollswagen was in good shape when I bought it but suffice to say the car did have a mechanical issue which is specifically covered under the contract. Carshield left my car awaiting service for a month where it was vandalized, demanded I start the repair myself by paying for it (>$1000) and then denied the claim saying that because "the damage happened during the contract active period, it is not paying." Which is fraud. They cited a waiting period of 20 days from the contract start date as the reason for denial of my claim. This however makes one wonder "what would be covered during the first 20 days if not the items in the contract." The short answer? Nothing. They refuse every single responsibility for it because they placed text within the contract which alleviates their burden. This is fraud because the customer is informed they are covered during the first 20 days, yet my W8 passat broke down and was not covered. Their contact states the car is covered at first date of purchasing carshield, but then goes on to contradict itself saying that the whole first 20 days is a dead period you gave them money for for no reason. My issue is "why was I forced to pay for 20 days I would not get service during."

CarShield Response • Oct 10, 2019

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We appreciate the opportunity to respond.

We have contacted your repair claim administrator, ***, to obtain information on the repair claim you have referenced. *** stated that you verified and told them the failure occurred within the initial 20 day waiting period. The sales representative you spoke with when you purchased the service contract told you that no repairs would be covered during the 20 day waiting period and that no failures pre-existing the effective date of the service contract would be covered.

*** has paid over 14 million dollars in covered repair claims in the last 6 months alone. *** correctly denied your repair claim, per your contract terms. If you have any further dispute regarding their claim decision, you would need to follow *** of your service contract or contact *** at the number and address listed on the first page of your service contract. ***

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:
No clear explanation of contract "waiting period" was made at date of sale.
No mention of denial for this cause was made PRIOR my being informed I'd need to year the car down at cost to discover the problem and carshield's inevitable non payment.
The response fails to address the approval rate of claims.
The response fails to address vandalism.
The response outright denies responsibility for contract administered to customer by carshield, who under international law is responsible for the transaction because it is being sold by the CarShield brand, regardless of who(m)ever underwrites it.
I am burned and you walk away with my moneyscott free.

CarShield Response • Oct 11, 2019

The sales representative you spoke with when your purchased your service contract did inform you of the 20 day waiting period. It is also listed in your service contract you received. If any vandalism occurred to your vehicle while it was at the at the repair facility, that would not be something under the liability of your service contract. You would need to address any vandalism with the repair facility where the incidence occurred.

***, your service contract administrator/obligor, has paid over 19,000 claims in the last 6 months alone, totaling repair claim payouts of over 14 million dollars.

*** correctly denied your repair claim, per your contract terms. If you have any further dispute regarding their claim decision, you would need to follow *** of your service contract or contact *** at the number and address listed on the first page of your service contract. ***

***, as stated in your sales call, is the administrator/obligor of your contract and has full authority over repair claim procedures, approvals and denials.

I get multiple calls a week and at least 1 or 2 mailings that "this is my last chance" for their services. I have tried to get off their list and it just continues. PLEASE STOP!

As the legal PoA for ***, I am reporting this complaint on his behalf. My dad is 87 y/o, and not in good physical and mental health, which is why he has asked me to step-up and handle all his business affairs - going forward. On July 12, 2019 - my dad's wife of 43 years, suddenly passed away of a heart attack, and now that I'm handling his affairs, I'm reviewing his financial statements, etc... I came across his *** monthly statements and noticed a charge of $99 applied to the account every single month. When I questioned my dad about the charge - he could not tell me anything about the charge - he wasn't aware that a $99 charge was being applied to his *** account. After researching, I discovered that the charge was from an auto service contract company: CarShield. I presented the information to my dad's, who could not tell me why he was paying $99 a month to CarShield. He could not explain what he was paying CarShield $99 a month for. I contacted CarShield, and the rep told me that the $99 charge is for a Vehicle Protection Plan. As I inquired more about the plan and what it covered, the rep told me that the plan covered any major non-routine repairs on my dad's automobile - 2014 Ford Focus. Furthermore, the rep offered to send a duplicate copy of the plan because my dad had no idea where his copy was and/or if he received a copy of the plan. Once I received the copy of the plan, I discuss the plan with my dad, because he had major brake repairs done on his car back in March 2019, and he didn't notify CarShield mainly because he either forgot about the plan and/or he could not locate his copy of plan. When I questioned my dad about why did he pay the entire bill for the brake repairs back in March, he reminded me about the time during Winter 2013/2014 on the coldest day of the winter (February 2014) - his car's transmission went completely out, due to the weather's temperature, and he had the car towed to the repair shop, which he rented a vehicle just to get home. And once he arrived home, he contacted CarShield, who immediately refused his claim to cover the cost of the repairs because he FAILED TO CALL THEM FIRST. Needless to say how upset I became because I remembered the situation. I remember how rude and nasty the rep spoke to my dad, and how inconsiderate they were towards my father because he didn't call them first, as he sat in his car in below-zero degree weather waiting for a tow truck. Note: my dad was 81 years old when that situation happened. Although, with the assistance from the Ohio AG, the company reconsidered their decision and sent my dad a check to cover only half the cost of the entire bill. I was certain that my dad would have cancelled the plan and wouldn't have any more to do with them - going forward. Soon after discussing the previous situation with my dad, I immediately contacted CarShield and cancelled the plan on Aug 31, 2019. Because my dad's character is meek and mild, he tends to shy away from confrontation, and will give-in just for the sake of an argument. I believe that due to the manner in which CarShield treated my dad in the past - he was intimidated to call them back in March about his brakes, for fear of experiencing a similar situation, and he just decided to pay the full cost of the brake repairs just to avoid being yelled and belittled again. I'm here to tell you that they told my dad that they will not pay him one cent towards the cost of the transmission repairs because he didn't CALL THEM FIRST and spoke to him as if he was a complete full-blown it.

CarShield Response • Oct 04, 2019

We have researched your complaint and see that *** purchased a vehicle service contract for his 2014 Ford Focus on July 31, 2018. There have been no repair claims called into the service contract administrator during the life of the contract.

You mention a breakdown in February of 2014 when it was so cold outside. Mr. Davis did not have a service contract through CarShield at that time.

We have cancelled *** service contract as you requested and will agree to refund him in full the 12 payments he has made as a gesture of goodwill and in a good faith effort to resolve this matter.

We have also removed *** contact information from our data base.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Carshield fulfilled their promise to me. They worked with my mechanic to get my transmission replaced. I own a 2013 Nissan Versa that needed a new transmission at 134000 miles and they approved it pretty quickly. My dealership received payment right away once it was completed. The technician from auto shield who called me to discuss it was knowledge and told me he personally had an auto mechanic background and I could tell. I was a little disappointed to find out that they never pay for reprogramming of the transmission or the taxes on the core but out of pocket with my deductible was very little for such a massive repair on an older car.
I purchased a policy because the car was getting older and I wanted protection since the dealer warranty and extended had recently expired so I called them. My advice to anyone is to negotiate the monthly cost. I am paying for a policy for 2 older vehicles so it’s not comprehensive anymore so I didn’t want to pay what they initially quoted. They agreed to reduce it for me especially since I was buying for several cars. I’ll be keeping the warranties until I get rid of my cars (plan to keep the cars for a considerable time).

CarShield Response • Oct 11, 2019

Thank you for your comments. We are glad we could help you with your repair. Please give us a call if you need our assistance in the future.

This company is relentless. I originally inquired about an extended warranty quote through their website and pretty much immediately I started receiving calls from them every half hour (showing up in spam). I initially didn't think anything of it until after calling them back to speak with one of their customer service representatives to receive a quote; eventually I was wasn't interested by the time the phone call was over. After that phone call I still received numerous calls filtered as spam to my mobile number over the course of a few days at which point I called them once again to have my number removed from their calling list.

CarShield Response • Oct 11, 2019

We were responding to your request for information. You have been removed from our call list as you requested on 9/20/2019.

I purchased car shield thinking this is too good to be true. I had them for a few months. They gave me the diamond car coverage. I remember when I first applied I specifically ask if they covered electronics and speakers. I'm a music lover and I was told yes that they covered practically everything that was factory. Months later my back speaker blew, I called and I was told I wasn't covered. And that its a 30$ dollar problem I can fix on my own. I asked to speak to the manager and she said she was the manager. I asked to cancel my coverage due to feeling disrespected and she said " OVER SOME SPEAKERS!" I eventually caved in to paying for a few more months I tried canceling it again and I always end up speaking to a manager who tells me I shouldn't cancel it and when I finally got the chance to cancel it. I was stormed with questions, rudely talked to and got the phone hung up on me. I just want my money back, this was nothing of what I expected.

I purchased Car Shield for my Wife's vehicle. She ended up having a major motor problem and it had to be replaced. I took it to my mechanic and they called Car Shield. They wanted him to take the motor apart and send the faulty parts to their labs to determine what the problem was. My mechanic said that would take way to much time and refused to do it. He is a certified mechanic! I called and tried to resolve the problem. I was advised to take the vehicle to one of their mechanics in Springfield Missouri. This is 75 miles away and the car would of never made it, as it would not even go one block. I finally gave up and purchased another vehicle. I was trying to do the right thing and keep my wife's favorite vehicle, on the road. Well I was a sucker. Their ad is not honest when they say take to who you want, we will cover it. "You like your insurance you can keep it". Heard that before!!!! When I got the final bill, it stated I could dispute by a certain date to see if I was entitled to a refund. Well the date to respond was earlier then the letter. I will never do anything like this again.

CarShield Response • Oct 11, 2019

Your service contract administrator requested that your shop diagnose to cause of failure, as stated in your contract terms. At that time an inspector would have been sent to your repair facility to inspect the vehicle and failed components before approval. Your service contract has been cancelled as you requested. You are in the process of being issued a prorated refund, per your contract terms.

I took out this policy and later found that the vehicle had water in the gas tank and it had rusted up the fuel lines and they refuse to cover that repair.

CarShield Response • Oct 03, 2019

We contacted your service contract administrator, ***, to obtain information on the repair claim you have referenced. They stated that your claim was denied due to outside influence of water intrusion causing rust. Per your contract terms, this is not listed as a covered failure and this claim cannot be processed.

Please contact your service contract administrator *** if you have any further questions regarding this claim denial.

I judge companies like this based on how they act BEFORE they get my business. Their agens were very polite when I responded to a promotion letter. I told the two agents I ended up speaking with that I was ONLY gathering info and would contact them if I was goin to get the plans we discussed for 2 cars. Both cars qualified for a discounted "Diamond" plan @ $89/mo. I felt that was worth it but I still wanted to digest the info and do a deep look at what parts were covered and what was not. I also wanted to go over the plans with my wife who was at work at the time. I politely thanked the agent for her assistance and we ended the call. The next day, I was bombarded with so many calls from them I had to block the numbers they called from. One of the numbers was caught by my robo caller program on the first ring, then they immediately called back on a valid number.

CarShield Response • Oct 11, 2019

We have removed you from our call and mailing list as you requested on 9/17/2019.

They DO NOT listen to you because they only want your money. I told the lady three times that I am leasing my car and therefore I have the maintenance coverage which is included in my lease; and she still tried to get me to purchase coverage.

I spoke to carshield about two week's ago to cancel my policy and the agent I spoke with from Carshield offered to lower my monthly payment from $129 to $89 a month. That being said they wound up charging me the $129 at no fault of my own. I have contacted them to request a full refund and account closure due to there negligence. In lieu of their error I am now negative almost $90 for which I'll get charged 35$ a day for insufficient funds fees until I get paid on Tuesday the 24th by my employer.

CarShield Response • Sep 24, 2019

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We do apologize for the $40 error that occurred when your monthly payment ran at the original rate rather than the discounted rate. We have cancelled your service contract as you requested and you will be receiving your payment of 129.00 credited back to your Visa card ending in 9315 in appx. 3-5 business days. An additional refund of $258 will be mailed to your *** address. You should receive it in approximately 10 business days.

I signed up with CarShield July 3, 2019, I was told by the sales person I had 90 days to cancel, once I read the complaints, I CarShield on September 3 asking for termination of my contract as I was told 90 days, the person on the phone told me for it’s 60 days, I told them I still want to cancel, then I was put on hold over 5 times, then a supervisor that only provided her first name as Leia told me she would listen to the call and me back to cancel I never heard back, I called back on 9/13/19 and put on hold again, Ironically my engine light came on my 2012 E350 Mercedes Benz, I had air flow intake leak, my service technician contacted CarShield they denied for only covering engines Although the air flow was for my engine was not flowing I had to pay $550.58, I contacted again in 09/16/19 through their contact us on their website am received a contact customer service,I am going to continue to allow withdrawals a company that provided false advertisement. I want my contract immediately.

I purchased car shield in case my 2009 Jaguar XF broke down they would help with repairs. My jaguar broke down. The cost was $6300.00 for repairs. I called carshield they said they might cut the cost down by only $1,000.00. When the car was repaired I asked how much did carshield pay. He said nothing. I called to cancel my account 3 months ago. I just noticed they have still been taking money out of my account without my authorization. Service contract

CarShield Response • Sep 24, 2019

You purchased an *** Membership for your 2009 Jaguar on March 13, 2019. It was explained at the time of purchased and in the membership contract you received, that this is a membership for $ 24.99 per month that provides roadside assistance, towing services, emergency tire service, lockout service, battery service, fuel delivery service, and repair negotiation services to negotiate with your repair facility the best price possible for you for your repairs.

This is a membership and negotiation service, as explained. It does not pay for your repairs.

As you have mentioned, you have already spoken with your bank and disputed the 2 payments of 24.99 you have made, you will be refunded through chargebacks with your bank, back to your ***.

I am rejecting this response because:when my car was repaired they said they would cut down the cost by $1,000.00. But when the dealer called them they said no they weren’t going to do anything to help me with the cost. So I want all my money back from the first day they started charging me. Carshield is causing me emotional stress.

Worst ever. My 4 wheel drive system went out. My policy stated the 4 wheel drive system was covered. They came up with some lame excuse as to why they wouldn’t cover it. This was the 3rd repair they refused to cover. Customer service is non existent. It’s only about the money for them.

CarShield Response • Oct 11, 2019

Your service contract administrator shows only one repair claim being submitted in May of 2019 for replacement of your exhaust manifold. This component is not listed as covered in your Powertrain Service Contract terms.

Car Shield is nothing but a big scam! READ THE SMALL PRINT! I would've been much better off putting my $129 a month away for repairs because they find every excuse they can not to cover anything! Their "loaner car" deal is also a joke!

CarShield Response • Oct 11, 2019

You purchased a powertrain service contract for your 2007 Torrent. You had a gasket failure. Seals and gaskets are not listed in your contract terms as stand alone covered components. Your service contract has been cancelled as you requested. You are in the process of being refunded your last renewal payment.

This service is a scam!!! I barely drove the vehicle I had a policy for. As soon as it gave me engine problems, I started a claim & they asked me for 12 months of service records. And then as I wanted to cancel, they said no refunds even though 12 month records we not stated in the contract or by the CSR who I worked to sign up with CarShield. Dont waste your money

CarShield Response • Oct 11, 2019

Your service contract administrator shows an engine replacement claim was submitted 248 miles into your service contract. They requested service records for the past year, per your service contract terms, to proceed with your claim. You stated that you would rather cancel your service contract than proceed. Your service contract has been cancelled as you requested and we will refund the 3 payments you have made.

Your service contract administrator shows that your repair claim was submitted on 9/4/2019 and paid in the amount of $3746.93 on 9/16/2019. This amount includes a vehicle inspection.
Your administrator, per your service contract terms, does have to have the cause of failure diagnosed to determine the covered components and move forward with the repair claim. This is part of the process outlined in your service contract terms.

I am a policyholder of this company. My starter in my 2006 Acura TSX went out on my car. I had the car towed to the dealership where I bought the car. I called Carshield and they told me to have the dealership check the issue and let them know what it is. The dealership says only $255 is as low as they can go for the starter. Carshield is telling me they will only pay $200. My understanding based on the commercials on the TV say they cover this issue. They don't tell me the limitations. I feel they are falsely advertising. They never sent me a contract with these limitations.

We have contacted your service contract administrator on your behalf to obtain information about your repair claim and help in the resolution of this matter.

Amerian Auto Shield's adjuster has spoken with your repair shop this morning and have negotiated a part price and labor. You should only be responsible for paying the $100.00 deductible.

The shop stated that you have moved your vehicle out of their facility. Your shop will be reaching out to you to reschedule an appointment with them. Once your vehicle is back at the shop the claim will be authorized by your contract administrator to the shop. There shouldn’t be any differences in parts or labor for the claim.

Please contact American Auto Shield if you have any further questions regarding this repair. ***
