I have an account with Carshield. My car ended up in the shop and the mechanic has been working on it for a while. Carshield will not cover the repair claiming that it is a long term condition. That's not what they originally said. They said that they pick up where the original warranty left off. This is the second time the car has been in for the same issue. This has been going on for four months.

CarShield Response • Jul 30, 2019

We have contacted your service contract administrator on your behalf, American Auto Shield, to get the status of the repair claim you have referenced.

*** stated that the technician at your repair facility said that the servo was worn to the point of making an egg shaped hole on the case. The technician stated that the failure is long term and has been happening for some time. The claim was denied as a long term failure, per the review by your repair facility.

If you have any dispute with the claim decision by ***, please see section M of your service contract, Dispute Resolution. Any dispute between yourself and your contract administrator will be settled through the Denver Revdex.com Arbitration Rules between yourself and ***.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

I was under contract. It doesn't matter what they say. There is nothing in the contract about a "long-term failure".

Sincerely

I was with this Company a short time and I am glad after looking at the reviews how so many had so many complaints I called in to cancel because I don’t feel I need the Warranty and also I have called to ask for a refund the person in customer service try their best to keep me after three try the person in customer service had cancel my account but won’t give me back my refund I made my own review and I believe that this company is out to get your money IF YOU NEED A WARRANTY GO TO A COMPANY THAT IS WELL KNOWN FOR DOING GOOD BUSINESS. Your Visa will be refunded for the 1 payment you have made toward your service contract. Visa generally takes approximately 5 business days to show the credit to your account.

After calling a few different companies I called Carr shield, and spoke with ***. Since I'm on a fixed budget I didn't want to pay out the you know what. He was able to work with me, and got me set up with good coverage at a reasonable cost I sincerely enjoyed speaking with him and a few of his co-workers there. I'm 100% certain Car Shield is a good company. However you know what the say, the proof is in the pudding.
Thank's ***!

Thank you so much for your kind words. Please feel free to contact us anytime you need assistance.

I TRIED TO USE THIS SERVICE ON 2 SEPARATE OCCATIONS ON SERVICES ADVERTISED FOR AND THEY NEVER COVERED MY VEHICLE FOE REPAIRS. WHEN I CANCELLED THEY SAID TO JUST WRITE A LETTER WITH AN EXPLANATION FOR A PRO RATED REFUND AND WHEN I CALLED TO FIND OUT ABOUT MY REFUND THEY REFUSED TO GIVE ME A REFUND BECAUSE THEY SAID I TOOK ONE MONTH TOO LONG. IN ADDITION, THEY CONTINUED TO CHARGE ME EVEN AFTER I CANCELLED...IF YOU ARE THINKING ON GETTING EXTRA WARRANTY "DO NOT USE CARSHIELD".

CarShield Response • Jul 31, 2019

Your service contract was put on hold so no further payments would be deducted from your account, when you called on March 26, 2019 to ask about cancellation procedures. We let you know at that time that you needed to send in a written request for cancellation or your service contract would cancel for non payment. We did not receive your letter until 2 months later, after your service contract cancelled for non payment. When a contract cancels for non payment, no refund is due per your contract terms.
However, in a good faith effort to resolve this matter with you, we will be happy to issue you a prorated refund as of your cancel for non payment date. We have waived the cancellation fee for you.

To whom this may concern:

We have been paying a company called car shield 162.19 a month for the
past 9 or 10 months and haven't had to use them until now for our Jeep
Cherokee that has been at the Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge dealership for a
month and we have been going back and forth between car shield and the
dealership because we authorized the tear down of the engine and the
adjuster went out there to access the issue and the adjuster,
technician and the manager over services agree on the problem. Despite
agreeing to what the problem is car shield wanted us to authorize more
of a tear down and we said no. For the past several days the
dealership and *** have been trying to get a hold of car
shield and sit on hold for an hour and then get hung up on. Last week
when we spoke to someone they said that we would only be responsible
for minimal payment which is the 100 dollar deductible, oil and filter
we are good with that. Now we are going back and forth because the
dealership says it will take them 23 hours to do everything and car
shield doesn't want to pay for the full 23 hours they only are wanting
to pay for 14 hours. Car shield is going by one standard of how long
it will take and the dealership is going by another standard. We are
going to be stuck paying almost 1,000 dollars instead of a few hundred
because neither one can come to an understanding on how long it will
take. Meanwhile, our Jeep is sitting with no engine and up on a lift
and has been there almost a month. It is getting old. We tried to make
the suggestion as to have the dealership do what they can in 14 hours
that way car shield will pay for it and we would still cover the
deductible and we would have it towed back to our house and figure
something out from there, but the dealership says that won't work so
now we are back at square one. My husband is disabled and we are on a
fixed income. *** and the *** Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge have
been talking to Car Shield. We would like help with this.

Thank You, ***

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We appreciate the opportunity to help you resolve this matter.

We have contacted your repair claims administrator/obligor, *** as listed in your contract terms, on your behalf to obtain information on the repair claim you have referenced. *** stated that the repair facility quoted 18 hours for the removal and replacement of the engine and 7.5 hours for teardown. The labor time verified by the adjuster and supervisor through the labor guide was 12.5 hours for removal and replacement of the engine and 2 hours for teardown. The labor rate is $114.00 per hour. After labor tax is factored in, *** has a pending amount authorized for labor the repair of $1636.42. *** has already paid for and ordered the engine assembly that is being used.

*** stated that they have already discussed the labor time with you on July 17, 2019 and explained the differences your repair facility is overcharging on. *** stated that you said you would pay the difference to the shop and requested that they order the engine; which they have done. *** stated the shop would be paid once they receive the final invoice signed by you.

Car shield is an auto warranty company that collects money on behalf of ***. I have been paying Car Shield for my car warranty for over a year. the company collects $89 from my account every month. My car broke down on 7/3/19. The car was sitting at the dealer for over a week while I waited for them to get an inspector out. After the inspector inspected the car they called me and said my claim is denied. The reason being is the plates on my car is *** plates which there was supposed to be an additional charge for a *** plate according to them. meanwhile they never mentioned anything about *** when we were making the contract. All they asked for was my plate number and the VIN number which clearly says its a *** plate. So After promising me that my car would be covered if there was ever a mechanical issue they bailed out, Making all kinds of excuses not to cover my car's mechanical issue. Because its an expensive job they figured its not worth their money to keep me as a customer. I asked to be refunded all the money I payed them they refused. as a consumer I feel like I've been robbed. Also after they denied my claim they still took their payment that they collect on the 15th of every month!!. That's absurd they are scheming people and I think with all honesty they are not fit to service the public. I am asking you to please help and protect me from them they've taken my money and left me with no choice. I could've got another warranty coverage which I would've been covered today. Now I have no coverage and no money to pay for my car.

CarShield Response • Jul 24, 2019

We have contacted your claims administrator regarding the repair claim you have referenced. They stated that your vehicle has *** plates (taxi and limo commission). If your vehicle has signage or plates stating it is used for or can be used for transporting passengers commercially, there is a surcharge for the service contract policy. Whether you use the vehicle for transporting passengers commercially or not is not the issue. The vehicle is plated as such and therefore requires the surcharge for claims to be paid on such vehicles.

You have stated that you do not wish to pay the surcharge going forward, as this claim will not be covered, and you have requested a refund in full on July 17, 2019. You have also stated that you own a transportation company.

Your service contract has been cancelled and you are being refunded in full.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: the company stated that they will not cover my claim because of the *** plates which I never denied I have *** plates on my car they had all that information from the beginning. Again they are just looking for a reason not to cover the claim. So according to them im not covered because of my *** plates which I had the whole time I was in contract with them so technically I was never covered to begin with. So then if I was never covered I need all the money I paid them since signing up. Because it’s either they cover me or they refund me all the money I ever paid. Which is only fair if they don’t want to cover the claim.

Also not just all the money I payed them I need assistance with the repair charge as well which is around $5600. And the delays they cost me For 3 week I’ve been renting a car to go back and forth to work Because now they left me with no coverage which I could’ve had with any other company this whole time! and I wouldn’t have had to come up with the money out of pocket.

Please note: According to NY DMV. *** plates are not considered commercial use it’s omt They are 2 different categories!!!!

Sincerely

Your vehicle is plated as a taxi or limo. You stated that you do not wish to pay the surcharge going forward, as this claim will not be covered. You have requested a refund in full on July 17, 2019. You have also stated that you own a transportation company.
Whether you use the vehicle for transporting passengers commercially or not is not the issue. Any further disputes regarding the claim would need to be directed toward ***, the administrator/obligor of your service contract, per section M of your service contact terms, Dispute Resolution.
Your service contract has been cancelled as you requested, and you have been refunded in full. $89.00 was refunded back to your Visa Card ending in *** on 7/24/2019 and the remainder of your refund, $267.00, was mailed to you by check on July 26, 2019.

I purchased car warranty by the name of carshield, what they say on the commerical is not the truth they don't fix your car. I purchased the warranty in Feb 2, 2019, I have this take off it out of my checking for last six month. And there not worth what on the paper or the commerical.

CarShield Response • Jul 24, 2019

We appreciate the opportunity to look into this for you. We have contacted your repair claim administrator on your behalf to obtain information on the status of your claim.

It seems the issue was reimbursement for a rental vehicle. If the covered repair of your vehicle takes more than 4 labor hours, a rental car reimbursement will be made. According to the claim notes your administrator has, your vehicle broke down on May 28, 2019 and your repair facility didn't call the repair claim into your claims administrator until June 20, 2019. The repair of your water pump should only take 2.1 hours. No rental reimbursement can be authorized for a repair that takes under 4 hours.

The water pump is a covered component under your service contract terms. Claims administrator does not understand why your repair facility would put you into a rental and not call to submit the repair claim until 3 weeks later.

Your service contract has been cancelled as you requested. In a good faith effort to resolve this complaint, you will be refunded the payments you have made.

Your initial payment of 79.00 will be refunded back to your ***. The remainder of your refund will be sent by check to the address you have listed in this complaint. You should receive it in approximately 10 business days.

I feel that everything that these people are saying is true. I am documenting my entire journey. My father is an attorney and thinks there is a very good chance of getting a class action lawsuit because I referred them to three of my friends and they have them all the run around and now finally my car is having problems and it’s my turn. Already they are looking for reasons not to fix the problem rather than reason to fix it

CarShield Response • Jul 18, 2019

We've contacted your claims administrator on your behalf to get the status of your repair claim. Their last notes show the claim was submitted on July 17, 2019. They have requested service records and tow bill per your contract terms. Your repair claim is pending review. Please contact your claims administrator at *** if you have any questions regarding your repair claim as it is in process.

After asking them to remove me from their mailing lists back in 2016/2017, they continue to send me junk mail to my address. I no longer think they are a reputable business after I told them I was not interested. I have complained once before to the Illinois Attorney General in 2017 about the company's mailings. Told the DMA Ethics Department as well recently.

They draft misleading and annoying letters under various junk mail headings claiming to be approved by the government to fix my vehicle. If I go with a service it will likely be another company, not Car Shield.

Last year I stared a policy for my 2007 Mercedes S550. About a month ago it would not start and I contacted *** but their representative said it was not the battery. He said the transmission was stuck in gear and had it towed to a repair shop. The shop determined the transmission had failed and contacted you but you denied the claim stating the repair was not covered under my policy. I paid for the repair - $4100.

CarShield Response • Jul 23, 2019

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We appreciate the opportunity to respond to and resolve this matter.

We have contacted your claims administrator to obtain information on the repair claim you have referenced. The claims administrator stated that the repair facility, Plaza Mercedes, said the failure affecting your transmission was an electronic component that is not listed in your powertrain contract terms as a covered item.

As this is a month to month service contract, you pay for each month you are covered, much like car insurance. Your service contract has been cancelled as you requested and no refund is due.

However, as a gesture of goodwill and in a good faith effort to resolve this complaint. We will refund the payments you have made, in full.

Your initial payment will be refunded to your Visa Card ending in 0705 and the remaining refund due will be mailed to the address you have listed in this complaint. You should receive your refund in 7-10 business days.

CARSHIELD IS A COMPANY THAT USES FALSE AND DECEPTIVE ADVERTISING. PROVIDE FALSE PROMISES, AND OUT RIGHT LIES TO IT'S CONSUMERS. eg. I had a repair done on my MB the car manager called CARSHIELD and it told the manager the repair was not covered. A month later talking to a friend who has this same company showed me in my contract those repairs are in deed covered. Called car shield , gave them parts numbers, copies etc. Said the CHECK WAS IN THE MAIL. This was in April. Then 2 days ago my Nissan truck broken down on the hwy. Over heated, a.c. stopped. None of the repairs were covered. With my Platitium plan none of the parts or labor is covered. But if I take it to non-dealer eg. pep boys or firestone maybe some of it would be covered. False, False advertising. I want all of my monthly payments refunded.

We contacted your claims administrator and they stated that the reimbursement check they sent to you for $411.09, check 6403 mailed on 7/3/2019, has been deposited and has cleared their account on 7/16/2019.

Your month to month service contract has been cancelled and you will receive a full refund of the last monthly payment. This policy is a pay as you go policy and renews each month. Much like car insurance, you pay for the months you are covered.

You purchased a month to month powertrain service contract for your 2010 Ford Escape with 157,256 miles. A repair claim was submitted for both front wheel hubs and bearing failure. The wheel hubs and bearings are not listed in your powertrain service contract terms as a covered components.

My contract number is ***. I purchased my vehicle in May 2018 and purchased this warranty shortly after. On 6/27/19, my vehicle was towed to the Audi dealership and the staff there began the process of making a claim to CarShield. Today is 7/15/19, more than 2 weeks later, and I'm being told that my claim has been denied. Carshield reason..."cylinder #2 exhaust valve was broken/burned due to carbon buildup on the valve". Carbon buildup is being viewed as negligence or something preventable on my part. I was actually told by someone on the phone that there are products available to put in your car to prevent carbon buildup as if this is something one would do as regular maintenance. Now I have a dismantled vehicle with a busted engine, a huge dealership bill because they had to take apart the car in order to find the "malfunctioning part", and a car payment for a vehicle that I can't drive and pay monthly for an extended warranty to prevent all of this from happening. Carshield is a huge scam!

CarShield Response • Jul 18, 2019

We contacted your claims administrator to obtain information on the repair claim you have referenced. They show a repair claim paid in the amount of $1,963.27 on 1/8/2019 for a timing chain guide tensioner failure.
In July of 2019 a second claim was presented for failure of the #2 exhaust valve. The vehicle inspection showed continued operation and failure to protect the vehicle from further damage. Failure showed carbon build up and burnt valve. Per your contract terms this claim was denied due to continued operation.

So glad I didnt commit. I asked for info last night, got 3 calls in less than 20 minutes (I was busy) but answered the 3rd. Went thru the spiel but he got to being condescending "oh I see you dont REALLY want coverage" when I reiterated at first I was looking for info and then stated I wanted to discuss with my wife. He kept at it. So I interrupted and said I AM INTERESTED just not right this second as I need to talk with her first. (That's how marriage works you talk about stuff especially money). Tried giving me nightmare stuff about something breaking when not covered etc. I said I take real good care of my truck as I do a lot of work myself. After reading these reviews though I am SOOOOO glad I didnt commit!

CarShield Response • Jul 18, 2019

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will review the call you have mentioned and take appropriate action if the sales representative was anything less than helpful and polite as we expect them to be.

CarShield IS FRAUD, RUN AWAY. Multiple CarShield representatives told me I had coverage on my vehicle repair and that I was past my waiting period and was ok to move forward. In good faith, I made financial decisions due to the information their representatives gave me. Later, this company denied my repair claim after the work started and after several days of vehicle rental charges building up denied any coverage. This time can no longer be rescinded nor can the work be undone. Now I am on the hook for all of this.

ZERO coverage, Zero claim payments have been made leaving me with a very large bill. They claimed my bad power brake booster was a "preexisting condition". Hey Carshield, News Flash, the whole damn car is a used car. Guess what? That is what you call a preexisting condition. And just in case you try to say otherwise, yes, I was outside your 20 day waiting period. Well past it.

I will never never consider using this company and I will never recommend them to anyone. CarShield you are bait and switch / fraud / malpractice / unethical liars.

If only I had came here first and read all of these reviews from the people in here that CarShield has damaged.

Oh and Carshield, I see you respond to these. Well I feel sorry for the employee that has to try to make excuses. It must be getting pretty tiring trying to come up with more lies.

CarShield Response • Jul 18, 2019

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention. You purchased your service contract on June 19, 2019. There was a repair claim submitted on 7/11/2019 for a failed brake booster and pin clip. Review of the failure determined it to have occurred prior to the effective date of your service contract.
Your claims administrator stated that they had gotten information on part sourcing and labor charges to help you with the cost of your repair. You had already given the shop authorization to complete the repair.

I purchased the Gold Coverage Warranty for my 2016 Chevy Malibu. I started experiencing engine problems so I took my car to the dealership for a diagnostic. I was informed that my car needed a new engine. I notified Car Shield and they inspected the car as well. The communication between the dealership and American Auto Shield/ Car Shield was terrible. I have been without a car for two weeks. I was notified by *** that the claim was denied due to carbon build up. The warranty is a mislead for anyone who purchases it because carbon build up is inevitable. I turned in all my records showing my scheduled oil changes. I requested a refund of my payments from Car Shield and they said that I needed to call *** for any refunds. I proceeded as instructed and I was told by *** that I needed to request the refund from Car Shield. I am very upset to say the least. Please assist me in anyway that you can.

CarShield Response • Jul 18, 2019

Your claims administrator has stated that the cause of failure is not listed as covered in your powertrain service contract terms. They were able to offer you part sourcing to help keep the cost of your repair down. Your shop stated that they would accept a shipped in part.

However, our notes show that you have requested cancellation of your service contract on July 12, 2019. Your contract has been cancelled as you requested and we will issue a refund of the 3 payments you have made.

I really wouldn't be putting. this out there but I have an issue where I got an extended warranty figuring my husband whose up there in age and disable wouldn't have to worry about his vehicle and it so happened that his vehicle had a problem. I called car shield and made a claim, had my vehicle towed to the dealership and then the dealership where it always went for all inspection and any problems contacted car shield and they took their time to come out to inspect. The vehicle stayed at the dealership for 6 days with myself calling everyday to find out the status of my vehicle to find out that they denied my claim. They said it was an ongoing problem which is a lie they also said that's it's been sitting for a long time. The mechanic at the dealership told them that's not true. It was in at the end of March for inspection and nothing was found wrong with the vehicle. I feel they didn't live up to their part. They take your money that you work very hard for and do nothing for you. I really wouldn't recommend them at all and if car shield really wants to make it good on their end for being a reputable business here's my information. ***. Or I will continue with legal action.
