Coby Electronics Corp. Reviews (398)

Review: I own 2 Coby Flat Screen LCD TV's purchased from PC Richards & Sons in Carteret NJ

39" & a 40" - Both TV's have two different bases.

The 40" TV has a circular base that slides right on and is perfect

The 39" TV has a base that you have to screw 2 screws into back to hold TV, this is where the problem is because I purchased the 39" on 3/**/2013 NOT even 4 months ago & it is now BROKEN & I cannot get in touch with ONE single HUMAN BEING at COBY's Corporate Head Quaters to discuss this problem. I did go back to PC Richards whom was so rudely & DID NOT want to do anything for me regarding this situation.

My Invoice # is [redacted] & I PAID for this in Cash (My own hard earned money that is now thrown out the window & nobody seems to care)

I have the broken parts in a zip lock bag along with photos.

I am requesting a replacement TV or MY MONEY BACK IN FULL!

I will NO longer purchase from PC Richards NOR will I purchase another COBY product due to this issue.

Sincerely,

Review: In June 2013, I called the Consumer return number of Colby electronics, I spoke to someone that said his name was [redacted]. I told him the problem I was having with the tablet that I purchased. The tablet is still under warranty. [redacted] in turns, asked me for my e-mail and he mailed me an address with instruction on mailing the tablet. I mailed the tablet on July *.2013, with a $15 money order made out to Colby Electronics, an explanation on what was wrong with the tablet, my name, address, phone number, and my e-mail as instructed. My attempt to contact them several times has failed because there is a recording stating you have to go on line to leave an e-mail to consumer care. I have left several e-mails, now the system will not take e-mails because the portal stays full. [redacted] is the name that was on the e-mail. I paid $229.95 plus $27.95 S/H for the tablet. I was told they would send an exchange if I sent the tablet back with the instructions I explained. This is September and I have not heard from anyone yet. Please if you would, help me get a replacement or my money back. Order_Number: [redacted]Desired Settlement: Refund Since they are not standing behind their product. I would like a refund for the money I have spent, I am on a fixed income. $272.90

Sincerely,

Review: I sent my android 4.0 touch screen tablet to be repaired under warranty. Bought it in Sept. 2012 and didn't work after 8 mo. Has a one year manufacturers warranty. I also purchased an extended warranty. I called Coby and told them the problem, they tried to fix over the phone. No success. Told return product to be repaired or replaced. Got all info that I needed and sent Item back along with return postage ($15.00). Was told it would be 6-8 weeks before I would receive my tablet or replacement. I sent it May *,2013 and they received it May *,2013. As of this day I am still waiting. Tried to call, but they do not answer any numbers and don't answer e-mails.Desired Settlement: Either send replacement or full refund plus shipping.

Sincerely,

Review: I had my sister purchase a Coby Kyros Tablet at ToysRus online as my 8 yr olds Christmas present and I reimbursed her cash. After not even a week of use the piece around the charger port's opening dislodged and went inside the product. This product does not charge via USB either. Attempted to register product online November ** for warranty but website is down, also called but line is no longer in service. Spoke with [redacted] at ToysRus in [redacted]. She says Coby has been bought out by a company but does not know who and thats why they ask customers buy the "Customer Protection Plan". Will attempt to contact [redacted] which are the buyers. Both my son and I are very disappointed and out of a Christmas present.Desired Settlement: I would of been happy with a replacement but upon further review, I have found many other kids with the same disappointment and would rather have a refund. If I never own another Coby product again, it would be too soon.

Sincerely,

Review: I sent my Coby Tablet to be repaired back in March of this year. They tried to tell me that they did not receive my tablet. They said that the box was empty, when I know there was a tablet in there. Then they tried to tell me that they tried to deliver it several times. They said it was sent by Fedex. I checked with my Post Office to see if anything had arrived. There was nothing there. I also checked outside on my porch and there was nothing there either.

I also sent a money order to have my product shipped back to me. I would like a refund for that of $15.00. Since I never received my Tablet.Desired Settlement: I would like a replacement of my Tablet and Money order of $15.00. My tablet was a MID 7034 7".

Sincerely,

Review: On April **, 2013 I emailed the service dept. at Coby to ask how to get my son's tablet fixed. I was given details on where to send the tablet and how much money to send. I emailed [redacted] on Thursday May [redacted], 2013 to ask when the tablet would be ready. He said to give it at least 8 weeks. On July [redacted] I contacted Coby via phone and spoke with [redacted]. He said that it is being worked on and it would be ready in two weeks. Well today is August *, 2013, still no tablet and no phones calls or emails are being answered.Desired Settlement: I would like my full money back on this product of $229 + $65 repair fee or a brand new Cody Tablet. This is very poor customer service. My son had an accident and is totally disabled, the tablet brought him much pleasure.

Review: I purchased a Coby tablet on 12/**/12. In March 2013 the tablet quit working. I called coby company and they advised me to ship it to them because it was still covered by warranty. They told me it would take 4-6 weeks for a reply. I called May [redacted] and they said they were back up in the warehouse. I called again in July and they told me that it was being ready to be shipped. Never received the tablet. I called again in September and the phone number would tell me to go to the website. I emailed them on 3 separate occasions asking for any information. I emailed the complaint department and the coby support and I have not gotten any replies.Desired Settlement: I would like to get a refund for this tablet. I paid 149.99 for it. If they cannot refund me the money then send me a fixed tablet.

Sincerely,

Review: I mailed two Coby tablets, MID 7012 & 7014, on June May **, 2013, to an address in Savannah, GA, for repair. Included with that was a $ 90.00 USD postal money order, which is their customary repair charge for 2 tablets. Refer to Canada Post Tracking #: [redacted].

I have called repeatedly to Coby Technical support to inquire as to when they would be returned and was always told by the CSR that they would speak to someone and have more information in a week.

I continued to call and today, none of the phone numbers for technical support were operational. Also, the main # for their national HQ had no other discernible option other than to attempt to speak with the "operator," where I was given the message I could leave a voice mail. I could not leave a voice mail, as voice mail was "full." In one of my many conversations with their support, the RMA# had changed to [redacted]. The tablet was never shipped and I have never received it.

To date, I have spent $ 20 to ship the products to the address in Georgia, am not in possession of my property (the 2 tablets) worth $ 109 each, and have sent $ 90 to a company that will not respond to me.

I have attempted to contact Coby several times since hearing from them last, by telephone and by email (July *).

My last correspondence from Coby was dated June **, 2013. I never received the tablets and it is now August *. Their last message follows:

Dear [name],

In regards to your tablet case number [redacted], we do show that the tablet has been repaired and shipped. You should be receiving your tablet within the next 1-2 weeks.

Thank you,

Thank You,

[redacted]Desired Settlement: Replacement of the two tablets shipped back to me that I am entitled to under the terms of their product warranty. Barring that, I expect to be refunded the purchase price of the two tablets (2 X $ 109.00 each), the $ 90 for the postal money order that Coby still has in their possession, shipping charges of $ 20, which is $ 328, plus additional remuneration for my time and frustration spent on this matter.

Sincerely,

Review: May **,2013 I sent my Coby Tablet to be replaced. It was still under warranty by Coby. They have not sent a replacement as of yet. I have made numerous attempts via emails, phone calls, faxes, and letters with no response.

I was told Coby moved from Georgia to California. At one point the call service told me the tablet was in the warehouse ready to be shipped but could not tell me a date.Desired Settlement: I desire a new tablet as per the warranty. I paid for this and am entitled to the service.

Review: I purchased coby tablets for my children. Since they were still under manufacturers warranty I contacted coby and was told to send them in for repair. I sent them in and its now july and I still don't have them back. I keep getting told the warehouse hasn't done anything yet. My kids tablet have been in the possession of coby electronics since april **, 2013. This is unacceptable and I will never purchase another coby product again.Desired Settlement: I want my childrens tablets and I want some restitution for having to wait three months for them to fix them and return them.

Sincerely,

Review: I purchased a tablet on 11/**/2012. It stopped working about a week ago. It appears to be frozen. I visited the website and it says to call before sending a product in for warantee service. I called the number given and get a message that says to visit the website. I tried emailing and got an automatic reply saying that the email is no longer valid. I have not been able to talk to anyone or get any information.Desired Settlement: I am so unhappy with the customer service of this company and have noted the many complaints against them. I'd prefer not to have their product anymore. As such, I'd like a refund of my purchase price, $128.

Sincerely,

Review: After purchasing and using the tablet approx. 9 months, The tablet had a technical glitch. I contacted Coby, they replied and sent a return label to correct the issue and advised that I needed to enclose a $15.00 Money order to cover the return shipment once tablet was repaired. I followed the instructions and did as I was instructed. I returned the tablet for repair sending in proof of purchase, description of problem, and the $15.00 money order. Tracking confirmed delivery of the tablet to the company. I was informed that it would take about 6-8 weeks to process my claim. I never received any type of further correspondence from Coby. After the time frame had passed for completion of the claim, I tried to contact Coby and all telephone numbers and e-mails were shut down. The business apparently closed and now I am out the cost of the tablet (99.99) and the additional $15.00.Desired Settlement: I desire to have all monies paid for product reimbursed as I currently have no product (as it was sent to Coby for repair). I expect funds to be reimbursed in the amount of $114.99.

Sincerely,

Review: bought a coby tv. the remote control went bad within a year. I followed the instructions and sent a money order of $6.00 to the coby electronics parts dept. (this was in July/ August. I hadn't heard from them so I had the social worker send a letter to see if I needed to do anything else to get the remote control. That letter came back "Return to Sender". I mailed it again to another address, but again, it came back return to sender. The funny thing is, my letter with the $6.00 money order never came back to me. I just want a remote for my tv, that's all. I don't want any problems.Desired Settlement: I would like to get a remote for my tv. I live in a nursing home and don't get around well.

Review: I had TWO Coby Kyros tablets for my kids break, still under the warranty. I mailed them in, along with my money order to cover shipping costs. I was told in an email from the company to do so. This was back in April 2013. It is now August. After multiple emaol attempts and phone calls, I have still not heard back from them when my replacements are going to be shipped.

I did finally get ahold of a person on the phone back in June. They found my claim & told me to call back the following week to get shipping information. When I called back, there was no wsy to reach a person. It just has a recorded message, telling you to go to the website- which is no help, since they will not respond to emails either.

So, now they have my TWO tablets & my $15 money order.

And I have two very unhappy children that just want their tablets back.Desired Settlement: I no longer want their products. I just want my money back so I can purchase new tablets that actually work.

Sincerely,

Review: I bought my first COBY MID-8125-4G tablet (Serial # [redacted]), sight unseen, from FRY’s Electronics [[redacted], Invoice # [redacted], Date: 9/**/2011, $152.24]

First I noticed the audio cutting out in one, then both channels. It developed a problem with the jack. Next I noticed power problems, and discovered that the power jack was also shorting out. This continued to a point I had no sound, and could not keep it charged.

Since it was still under warranty, I registered the tablet, because I was initially going to have it serviced. But then I realized the memory would probably get wiped during the service, and I desperately needed to retrieve some files from the unit.

So being that I have electronic experience and A+ training, I took it apart, and was able to restore power long enough to retrieve the files, though having to face losing really important bookmarks, only because I could not figure our where they were stored in the Android OS. What I discovered when I took it apart, was that not only was the audio connection loose from the motherboard, but that the power jack had come completely loose from the board, and that “it wasn’t even soldered at all four connections”! {Have photos]

Despite that failure, I bought another newer Coby Android 4.0 OS, MID-7033-4G tablets (Serial # [redacted]], again sight unseen, from J&R Music (through [redacted]), [Invoice # [redacted], PO # [redacted], Date: 8/**/12, $80.93]

As soon as I plugged I in, I knew it was destined to fail on me. WHY? Because with this unit, the power plug did not even fit the unit! If you tried to push it all the way in, you would certainly break the socket inside the unit, and certainly having the plug NOT all they way into the unit, would make it fail as well. [Have photos] It only took 2 months of careful use and it failed. Even if it is fixed, it will just break again, because THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW!

Now I am stuck with TWO faulty tablets, and yet the MID-7033 is still under warranty.

Tried contacting them with no response. Time is running out on my warranty.

Their website seem to have problems as it no longer shows all the tablets they sell.Desired Settlement: I would like to send both of these failed units to them and have them replaced, by a MID-8065 tablet, or at least a MID8048, with the latest Android OS.

Sincerely,

Review: I purchased a Coby tablet and after 30 days of use it died, I contacted Coby via their website and tech support phone number and was given emailed directions on how to return the item for replacement/repair. I was told it would take 4-6 weeks and that I could not contact them for 4 weeks and at that point I could contact them and get a return shipment tracking number. After 4 weeks I contacted them on their tech support phone number ###-###-####. I was told there was no information yet, and call back later. I waited 2 days and called back, to receive same information. At that point I was given the phone numbers for the California and New York repair facilities. I called the numbers given and got voicemail system where I could either enter extension number or 0 for operator. Operator doesn't answer and I am sent to voice mail box that is full and can not accept my message. Now when I call the original ###-###-#### number I get a voice recording telling me to go to the web site. I have sent many emails through the contact us email [redacted] and I get no reply from them. Meanwhile I paid over $100 for a tablet that is in their facility and I can not get any information about it from the company. It has now been over the 6 weeks point and I am still not getting any thing from the company.Desired Settlement: I would like the company to contact me as to the status of my item and send me a replacement for my broken tablet that they possess.

Review: I first contacted Coby Customer Support on May **, 2013 regarding warranty replacement for my daughter's defective Coby Tablet MID8048. Paul Roehl with Customer Service approved the replacement and e-mailed me instructions to ship the item back and a mandatory $15 shipping fee. I mailed it to their location in [redacted] with a $15 money order and proof of purchase. Between July [redacted] though today, August [redacted], I have attempted to contact them a minimum of 8 times via phone and 3 times via email. After July [redacted], all phone numbers are either disconnected, or go to a voice mailbox that does not accept messages. I read today that COBY closed down their [redacted] warehouse in May as well as laid off 35% of their staff. However, they instructed me to send it there in May and now myself, as I have discovered countless other customers, are having the same issue. No one can reach them, and my young daughter is out her birthday present. I am reaching out for help to anyone to help me resolve this problem. I have all records of people I initially reached, dates and times of call attempts, as well as all e-mail correspondence if needed.Desired Settlement: Either issue a refund for the defective tablet in addition to the $15 return shipping fee I paid them, or complete the warranty replacement.

Review: I have tracked delivery of my COBY tablet through the US Postal Service that was sent out to be repaired and was received by COBY on April **, 2013. I was told 6-8 wks. It has been 12 wks now and when you call their customer service you get a call center operator that says she doesnt know anything and hasnt heard from COBY for over 2 wks and that they moved from Georgia to California. They said I can call the Corporate Headquarters and when I did that it goes to an operator voicemail that says mailbox is full and hangs up on you. I waited on hold for 35 minutes to even get someone at the call center. I have had nothing but problems with this company and I also had to pay over $23 to have this insured and shipped and cover the return shipping as well and I am getting nowhere when I try to call them. I am very upset so please help. My phone # is ###-###-####, [redacted]Desired Settlement: I want my money back that I paid to get this fixed and the money we paid for the tablet $79.99 plus tax=$85.59 plus insurance and tracking thru USPS $8.45 and $15 money order for return shipping=$109.04.They can keep their tablet because I will never own anything with that name on it again after this.

Sincerely,

Review: In February 2013 I called Coby to report that a tablet that I purchased at Christmas was not working, I sent it to them for repair or replacement. In May of 2013 after only having the new tablet back for 3 days, I had to call again because the new replacement tablet was not working. It would not turn on. I spoke to the representative and told him about the issue. He gave me their UPS account number to send it back and assured me that since this was a brand new tablet that they sent and it was now not working that as soon as it was received there he would note my account and see to it that another tablet was sent out immediately so my son did not have to wait again to have his tablet back. I tracked the package and it was received and signed for on June *, 2013 (tracking # [redacted]) I called today (7/**/13) and finally got through to someone. He ([redacted]) told me that it was logged into the system on 6/**/13 for repair. I asked why it took so long to be entered into their system and he informed me that they had issues with their warehouse. He proceeded to tell me that it would be about 6-8 weeks before I would have a decision on what they were going to do with the tablet. I explained to him that I was promised an immediate turn around when the tablet was returned. They have had the defective tablet for 5 weeks now already.Desired Settlement: I would like my replacement sent to me immediately as I was originally promised. If they can not send me the new tablet, then I would like my money back from my original purchase. I feel that I have waited long enough for them to fix their problems.

Sincerely,

Review: The charging prong for our 7in tablet has broken off, since the item should still be under the 1 year warranty with the manufacturer I have tried multiple time via multiple avenues to contact Coby to work through a repair or replacment. The warranty information says you have to contact the company before sending the defective item to them. I have tried calling the company but I only get a recording to go to their website, no options to speak to a person. I have emailed both technical service and customer care with out a response. I've tried calling the corporate office and cannot reach a human being.Desired Settlement: I would like to have the item repaired but if that is not an option I would like to have a refund for the purchase price.
