Freedom Pop Reviews (199)

I was with Freedom Pop months ago. I attempted to cancel with them and sent an email about how to since I couldn't find a phone number. I received an email back stating all I had to do was go online and request it to be placed on hold and that would prevent any further billing. WRONG!!! I am still getting billed. I have attempted to call them, email them, send them letters. NOTHING.

Great service! Don't let the negative reviews deter you from trying this service. I've been very pleased and it's free! In the New England area the service is great in populated areas [redacted]

I signed up for the hot spot data service and could never get it to work. I was under the impression that after a free trial period the first 1/2 GB of service was free so never did anything to discontinue the service. I wasn't using it so didn't think I would incur charges. But I reviewed a credit card statement and learned they were billing me $49.98 every 3 months. This has gone on for 9 months and I learned of it today, so called to cancel the service. I was on hold for 56 minutes waiting for a live representative to discontinue the service. The rep was difficult and tried to convince me to downgrade my data plan. I repeatedly said "I do not use the service and wish to discontinue it!" After considerably more time the rep agreed to cancel my service. I still do not know how the billing was established other than I gave a credit card number to purchase the equipment. The company operates off of deception. Buyer beware!

Very shady business practice ! I ordered their service reading about the "FREE" offer. Shipping was prompt. I got two packages in mail with one sim card each. It was confusing. Assuming that they had sent it two of them in error, and because it is nearly impossible to get them on the phone, I activated only one of the sim cards and ignored the other. By default, they sign you up for a plan/service for $27.98 per month. To make it free, you have to change the plan and the service to basic. Navigation is very confusing and the options to go to the basic option is hidden away in very small font. It clearly shows that they are counting on you to miss it and expecting to make money out of it. Having dealt with companies like this before, I took extra pain to make sure everything is at the basic option.

After a month, I see a charge of $27.98 on my credit card. Of course, I can't call them (calling is only for premium customers). So, I open a ticket which hasn't been answered to after 10 days. Then, I start looking around and see that they have a second line on my account (on the sim card that I hadn't even activated). Again, the option to view the second line is deliberately hidden away. I finally get to it and see the $27.98 charge.

How crazy ! Now, I am still waiting for a response from them. Based on their response here, I see that they are making an attempt to be customer-friendly, but the business practice of hiding pits and expecting the customer to fall into them is so 20th century'ish. They should know that that immediately makes them hate-target.

As for the service, I haven't used it much. I made a couple of calls. The call quality seems good. I see a good future for the business, if they would resolve these customer support issues.

Excellent service for the money

I recently had an issue with my iPhone 5 with freedompop. My issues were completely resolved by a tech at freedompop's office. He was professional and thorough and I am completely satisfied with the outcome.

Terrible, terrible company, they charge on fees without my consent, I was charged $4.99 twice, the first time I complained, they said I added international calls, when I didn't. My iphone became difficult to turn on and off, and I had terrible reception, so I went to another company. I called Freedom Pop to cancel, they convinced me to stay on, but I did not use the phone. I got charged out of the blue another $4.99. I recommend stay far away from this company. I am with Metro PC, and it is 100% better service all around. Freedom Pop is very shady, their products are unsatisfactory so is their service.

Customer service has been responsive. I have a mifi device, it works as expected.

ive had a few problems but they are always solved

When I first purchased my phone and obtained the FreedomPop service everything was perfect with the 100% FREE limited no monthly charge service I chose. They don't charge a flat monthly fee, they are a pay for what you need service company. After awhile I started to see charges on my account. I sent countless emails back and forth for a number of months as the problem was ongoing. Because I don't pay for the phone Support Service I could only contact them via email. Because the charges kept showing up on my Charge Account monthly bill I eventually was able to have a conference phone call with FreedomPop and with a Representative from my Charge Account Company., again the charges were dropped. All along I kept telling FreedomPop I am the only person who uses my phone and I am very careful about using WiFi so I can stay within the 500mb of Free service. and that I was NOT personally going over the 500 mb of FREE data I am given each month, and it must be something wrong with my phone. Again, because I have the FREE service I do not have the Support/Technical Service via email or the phone but eventually they gave me technical support via email and told me a few things to do with my phone. I am so happy they believed me when I told them I DID NOT personally use up all of my data and it was something going on with my phone because I am happy to report hey took ALL of the charges off my account and after they assisted with my phone I have not had any further trouble. So far my phone and the service is working as well as I expect it to work.

I have been satisfied with the service insomuch as it has met my expectations. I live in an area with spotty cellular coverage through all carriers. Because of this I didn't expect stellar performance, but for the money, it's been a good backup phone for my needs. I'm stuck in a contract with [redacted] for two years and needed a phone that works in the areas where they provide little to no option for roaming data.

[redacted] + [redacted] = fast internet. Freedompop uses [redacted] network which has pretty good coverage and I have no problem using this hotspot. 500MB/month free is good enough for me, and I always have the option to increase the data as needed. I do not like the fact the credit expires after I think 90 days (can be reactivated every month), may be Freedompop will change that. Freedompop customer service is pretty good, had to cancel another product that did not work with any of my unlocked phones and freedompop canceled and refunded immediately. Kudo for customer service. Many complain about hidden fee or unexpected charges, I would suggest you READ carefully before you select any services or product. You can always cancel anytime if you change your mind.

The service has been working. I use this for my 18 year old son. I am glad he has a phone.

Enjoying the free service

BEWARE!!! They are noting but a SCAM!

Freedompop is the worst service I have ever had! First of all, a phone that was supposed to arrive within a week, took 3 weeks to get here. Customer service was no help at all and just said I had to wait and it was just going to take longer. Once I received the phone, it seemed ok at first, except when I left my house with a wifi connection and actually had to connect to 3G/4G. I use my phone mainly to make calls, which was completely impossible. It was back to the old days of "Can you hear me now?"..."How about now?" and that was with a paid service for "Premium Voice". I also had a paid plan that consisted of unlimited text/talk and paid $25 a month for this plus another $5.99 for Premium Voice. They consistently overcharged me for the services, duplicating the same charge more than once. I have had them less than 6 months and had over 5 charges refunded due to their error. However, this was not without a hassle with customer service. I also had them bill me for services I did not order and then argue about refunding them because either A. It had been too many days since they charged it (because I didn't notice it on my account until 2 days later, and they are only open from 9-5 during which time I am at work and cannot call and are also closed on the weekends) or B. I had quote "already used the service" that I did not order and they had applied to my phone without me knowing. I also had no automatic "top up" but it would automatically "top up" even though I had already topped up manually. I removed my credit card from the account under edit, however it doesn't really remove it.

My husband also got an account/phone with Freedompop shortly after I received mine and had nothing but issues. His phone would constantly lose his user info and therefore had no service at all. Then they wanted him to return the device he waited over 3 weeks to get and wait for another one. We didn't even buy the phone from them! Then in the mean time he got an email saying that since he did not respond to the email regarding returning the phone within the same day, that the issue had been resolved and the support ticket had been closed. In the mean time, the phone just started working again. AND, you cannot apply android updates to your phone or it will lose your user info.

Customer service does not speak clear English, do not understand clear English and just hang up and send you an email when you get frustrated with their lack of knowledge and support.

Being that I was the one managing my husbands account, another huge RED FLAG was raised when I realized they had DIFFERENT PRICES FOR THE SAME SERVICES when I logged in to his account vs my account! What the heck! How can they even do that! Also, major issues when trying to switch from their service to a new provider.

BEWARE!!! They are noting but a SCAM!

Love the service at a great price, would not hesitate to highly recommend your company.!!!!

It started out badly but finally got an agent that took control and worked everything out for me. Now the service on a basis monthly seems to be just fine!! We reside in a mountain area and thought it would be a problem but it isn't!!! We are very pleased!!

I would highly recommend Freedom Pop they are fair priced and very helpful if you have a problem.

It's all good

They lie about about everything. The optimus phone I have is refurbished and is always malfunctioning. People constantly complain about the static and echoing. And I feel bad and aggravated that I have to keep calling people back to apologize that I'm waiting for a f pop tech to email me about the hanging up issue. The phone signal service is prob just that bad and they are lieing to me and running me back and forth to McDonald's saying I have to reset it.don't get this service.you'll want to kick their but for kinda scaming you about everything and hangs up all the time.I'm not sure its worth the [redacted] unless u have time on your hands to be calling these liars and waiting 45 min at a time for lies. I've determined that they are stringing me along and none of these issues can be fixed its just a horrible phone and service that just stays broken that's the catch. Many many lost hours and trips over a freaking 10$ savings. Savings end up being a loss and a pain and suffering experience
