Noom is better than most, with a somewhat unique approach to weight-loss. The biggest differentiator is the live-human coaching (via text), and the group forum, which won't appeal to some folks, but provides a bit of accountability, and that can make a huge difference. Like any program, you only get out of it what you put into it. Losing weight for the long term is NEVER easy, and anyone who tells you that it is-- they're lying to you. It's a multi-front war wherein you take on your own genetics and lifestyle, and Noom gives you good tools for fighting that war over a long term.
My main gripe with the Noom experience is that I don't have any real ability to look at my data in aggregate. Theres no way to look back over the past several months and notice patterns in behavior that could be leveraged. For instance, I suspect that on days that I eat lots of protein for breakfast, I have a smaller lunch. Without the ability to aggregate the data, all I can do is tap back to each day and find out what I did. Hey noom... some of your clients are nerds too, and #NerdsLoveData.
They don't tell you how much money that's going to be up front. They tell you that it's 80% off. They tell you you will get personalized coaching and meal planning and all these helpful things which is great. I need those things. I don't have time or the ability to drive and go to sit down meetings. I would love to be face-to-face and talk to people about my food habits But I know that I just need to make small lifestyle changes. I applaud Noom for giving me little tips and tricks to not get on or off the wagon, but to make little habit changes here and there. The app is helpful because it rewards me for activities and gives me calories back. It helps me count my calories with my food choices. I have a group coach who well almost daily give my group tasks and uplifting articles and challenges that we can help each other out with. It is at our own time and we can put in as much as we want. Also, we can just sit there and not do anything and nobody will know. So they can just take your money and nobody will really know. You have a personal coach and they message you one time a week in the app. Mine claims I'm not reading her articles. I'm not sure why. I messaged her back in the app after she text messages me in a non reply text message. I let her know that I have read the articles and I have not gotten any replies back. The personal coaching is useless. That was what I was really hoping was going to be different because at least they could spend five minutes a day with one person because they don't have to drive anywhere Or doing anything specific. Five minutes, one person, one day. Couldn't be any easier right? before you knew it I really thought that this was going to be easier than anything else because for the first two weeks I got a free trial and started logging meals and counting steps and I loved it. I ***. I started reading their little tips and tricks everyday and it was really helping me. free trial ended and I got the group coach and the personal coach involved and the personal coach has done nothing helpful in my opinion I'm not really sure what they get paid for. My advice to new would be check in on what you're paying them for.
If it were possible to have less than 1 star, I would...RIP OFF company. They'll take your money for months, no matter how many times you try to contact them, they'll never resolve your issue...DON'T LET YOURSELF FALL INTO THEIR TRAP.
Overall I have been mildly satisfied with Noom. The food logging and color coordinating are the strengths to Noom and have personal helped me to change my eating habits. I enjoy the information from the articles but the humor begins to get a little played out and honestly annoying at times. I understand the motive of making this a fun thing but sometimes the humor just goes to much. It's like listening to 10-20 mins of Dad jokes over and over. At some point they are not funny anymore.
Noom advertise that just 10 mins is all you need, I feel this is a little bit of a false claim. The articles and group require more than 10 mins a day. Often times I feel obligated to read the articles and continually doing quizzes. I appreciate the education aspect but it should be less restricting.
The biggest disappointment I had with Noom is I purchased the meal plan/exercise plan. A huge waste of money for a generic plan that I could have found on the internet for free. The plan was not tailored to me and was based on a questionnaire of answers I gave, which at the time I thought would lead to someone reaching out to me. Instead I received a standardized exercise/meal plan with no really information that was worth the cost. A lot of money for nothing. :-(
I think Noom works for certain people and helps those people, for me I have enjoyed some of the features of Noom, but I would not subscribe to app after my 4 months. I have found other apps that provide more information for a fraction of the cost.
Best diet app ever! I eat whatever I want, but in moderation when it comes to the unhealthy foods. This leaves me feeling NOT deprived. All other diets deprive you of something — like carbs. So Noom is a long-term lifestyle. Easy to follow. Sometimes it’s a hassle to read all the “lessons,” but I skip and go back when I have time.
Noom not only helps you lose weight but helps you change your thinking to help you keep the weight off! Not only do you have a personal coach but you are part of a group of people going through the exact thing you are so you don’t feel alone and you always have someone to talk to if necessary. Couldn’t ask for a better program!
Too much reading on a daily basis. Every day you are given extensive information that you have to read through. If it was in a video form - maybe that would be better. The responses from the goal coach seem very robotic such as “how does that make you feel?” - “that approach sounds good”. I don’t believe that it’s worth the $130+ dollars for that. There are other apps that do calorie counting and weight monitoring just as this one.
Some of the foods do not make sense. Cream of Rice cereal is 170 calories and is considered a green food. Rice Chex Cereal is 110 calories and it is considered a red food. Safeway Brand Keurig Hot Chocolate is a green food and Swiss Miss is considered a Red Food. Lite mayonnaise is considered a red food . No constant! I am having to eat very bland food right now. My Drs discovered I have Ulcers. So low fiber and low-fat for foods right now. I do love the psychology so that is a plus but logging foods makes it hard when there is no consistency. I will continue the Noom staying the same with weight. I have been using a low carb diet in the pass which seems better for me but with the Drs order I am high Carb. Low-fat low fiber.
I agreed to a 14 day trial subscription on 5/. It was scheduled to end in 5/*** I canceled the subscription, per their instructions, by sending a message through their Noom App on 5/. This was 2days before the trial subscription ended. On 5/*** they deducted $168.54 from my bank account. By deducting this amount, they overdrew my account. They are refusing to refund my money even though I canceled my subscription within the trial period.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.
Sincerely
I'm very pleased with the Noom program. It has taught me a lot about myself in terms of habits, predispositions, etc and how to overcome adversity, not just with weight loss. It really does work!
I'm learning a lot and am losing weight. I love the support from the group posts. I also find the ability to work with a nutritionist helpful and unique to Noom. There is a lot of reading involved (4-5 short lessons each day). I feel I am falling behind a little which is why I gave a 4/5 stars. Too much information at a quick pace. The information is useful though and I enjoy reading - I just can't keep up with it.
The accountability piece and logging of foods online is quick and easy to do. You begin to see patterns in eating habits and learn to create new habits. Noom breaks down food into 3 color categories and nothing is off limits which helps when creating new routines and eating habits for yourself. It takes a while to learn how you can really eat from all 3 categories to stay full and lose weight.
Interactions with the coaches and groups are optional and at your pace. No one will hound you each day, they check in at your suggested intervals.
I did not find the custom meal plan worth the extra money but I am finding ways to sneak in extra exercise from the workout guide.
Overall, I have lost about 10 pounds so far and have learned many new ways to eat and not deprive myself. It is a change in lifestyle, not a fad diet, and I am hopeful I will continue to eat healthy and lose weight.
Noom has been great! I have made way more progress than I did on my own or with other programs. It guides you without being pushy. I love the gradual approach to setting goals. Although losing weight is never easy, Noom has made this as stress- free as possible. I am continuing my journey with my head high and a positive view of the future.
So far I really like Noom. I've never done a different weight loss approach so I have nothing to compare it too in that manner but I like the color coded system, the food logging and the articles are really helpful and timely. They totally understand the path and when you need to know something they tell you.
That said I haven't lost very much weight in 5 weeks but understand the process now, so I am trying to make this a lifestyle choice and not just a diet which is great.
The negatives are the goal specialist who literally checks in once a week and just says good job and when you ask them specific questions they are completely vague and don't answer specific questions. I don't find the goal specialist helpful. I also don't like the format to the group posts. They need a heading topic and then posts underneath it not just random posts. Also like a week into our group, they merged a second group with ours that is a good day or two behind our topics which is bizarre when you go to the group posts.
This business is a sham. For starters, despite being promised a Goal Specialist to set my goals and then contact with a Coach and a Group to work with, none of this materials. Moreover, I followed the instructions to cancel from the website *** approximately 20 hours in advance of the renewal, only to be charged. Then customer support said I was supposed to cancel on *** (which I have since done) but this was not what Noom said. So the service is a sham and they are still charging after cancellation is requested. Not acceptable. Buyer beware.
The cost is unreasonable and getting a refund is impossible. They bill for multiple months at a time which Is frustrating because you are stuck paying for a service that you likely won’t use. The app and the plan is mediocre at best. Keep your money, and don’t bother with the trial period.
This is a PREDATORY app that charges you $1 for a free trial and then charged me $159 for a YEAR subscription without any notification. Then they have absolutely no way for you to access customer service or request a refund. This app should be removed from the *** Store and the company needs to be investigated.
I do not feel everything was completely explained in the beginning. I have had to verify the program with my coach which has been very helpful. Once I realized it was a 1200 calorie diet, tried to get menu customized for me and that did not happen. Not paying $59 for something not specific for me which l expected. Am learning more about behavior and strategies.
I love the articles and the daily logging and weighing which is giving me a mindful approach to weight loss that is slow but sustainable. The group I'm in isn't terribly helpful but I'm sure it is to some. My biggest disappointment with the program was when my app inexplicably stopped working after 4 weeks. NOOM has no contact phone number, you can only contact them by submitting a message electronically. I couldn't tell if my request for assistance went through and did not hear back for a couple of days. Apparently the issue was the credit card I provided did not accept the charges as valid after my free 14 day trial. After NOOM tried unsuccessfully several times to put the charge through, they cancelled my membership, but never notified me though they had my name, address, phone number, email address, and direct immediate access to me through the app. I was unaware there was a problem. The reply email I received back just very basically stated the dates the card was attempted to be charged with no mention of how to correct it or to continue my membership. I felt very much like my business was not valued. After my response to that email requesting someone contact me for an opportunity to straighten it out, I did receive a more satisfactory response with a discount code so that it more matched the price I had been offered initially. I ended up signing up because I like the program, but it dampened my enthusiasm for sure and was much more trouble than it should have been.
They charged my card $150 and I was only for a free trial which was supposed to be $1. They do not communicate with me at all. And would like my money back.

I like the daily Noom lessons and guides for changing my thinking about what dieting is all about. The quirky humor used in them makes it less like a lecture and more like a chat among friends. Can’t say enough about how patient and helpful my coach is while I was getting started as I started while away on a vacation. The biggest change for my thinking is knowing that there are no bad foods which has helped me try to budget them in instead of having the feeling of deprivation or the “I quit” thought from when I indulge in a treat. While I’m off to a slow start I can see definite changes in my approach to eating and that’s why I’ve stuck to it more than anything else I’ve tried before. Thanks Noom
