I could not get a response from the Noom support team and was charged $129.00. This company should not be allowed to advertise on NPR.
Noom = Scam
Very misleading - Wanted to give no stars. Charged for 4 months with no opportunity to recoup $$.
I reached out to cancel my membership due to not being able to afford the program anymore. After receiving a confirmation that the membership was canceled, I received a $129.00 charge on my bank account. I have attempted to contact the business via email, because that is the only form of communication they have with customers, and cannot get a reply back concerning the charge. I have contacted my bank and they will be filing a dispute with the company regarding the charge.

App Would not cancel free trial until day after charges were assessed. Personal coach quit responding after day 4. Requested cancellation thru support prior to free trial expiring and did not cancel.
Would not recommend.
I tried Noom last year and loved it, but didn't have the money to continue after the free trial. I told my Goal Specialist and my account was closed that day with zero hassle. I signed back up this year and was told up front of the 6 month subscription up front after the 2 week trial period.
I cancelled my trial subscription and was still charged for a full subscription saying they would not charge me after the next billing cycle which is 6 months but that I could not receive a refund. I am not using the product and would like a refund. Their refund policy was not detailed anywhere and I had no idea I would be unable to get a refund. If I’m not even using their product I should get my money back. Also, it is not readily apparent how to cancel the subscription. I had to google how to cancel to figure it out because when I unsubscribed I was still enrolled and still ended up being charged. Such a scam that I hope others do not get suckered into. They need to be more transparent with cancellation, how to cancel, and their refund policy.

The website advertises a MONTHLY subscription that begins after a two week trial period. It NEVER states that they will charge $149 up front and that is is NON REFUNDABLE. It is difficult to find how to cancel the subscription on their website and it can ONLY be done through their app, not their website. Additionally, when I tried to look at my account I waited for HOURS and the page never loaded so I was unable to see the status of my account.

They’re scam artists when you attempt a “free” trial. They require a $1 payment but when I gave them my *** info, they charged my credit card $242.99! And there’s no way to speak to a customer service rep, their 800 number is a recording. Their email replies tell me they have no record of my account. Their voicemail says if you want to cancel, install their app. I did but the app log in will not work. It’s a total scam.
This is the Fyre Festival of apps! Noom purposely makes it difficult to cancel a subscription. The app provides nothing you can’t already do on your phone. Do not put yourself through the angst of trying this app.
The short answer is that they claim a free trial, but you're requires to pay a dollar to "activate" the program. That is not free. Only after paying the dollar do you realize the full charges required to start the program they suggested was part of the whole.
I’ll give them credit, their flow is very well designed , especially if the goal is to get money out of you without being up front about the costs. The free trial is 14 days. But in order to start the program, you’re charged a dollar (after they supposedly waive startup fees). Once you’ve paid your dollar, they take you to a screen where you choose your program. By program I mean, food plan or exercise plan. Both of which are 60 dollars individually. Those charges are immediate and non refundable. So even if you cancel your “free trial”, you still eat those fees. I declined those programs, even though it was the main reason I had interest in the app. After your trial, you’re charged 30 bucks a month. This is important to note!
I was then directed to download the app, which I did. As soon as I had the chance, I opted to cancel, because, as mentioned before, the programs I was interested in cost extra, though they aren’t to clear on that before you pay your dollar. They present a survey asking why you are choosing to cancel. One of the options for your reply is “I was not aware the programs would costs extra” because of course I wasn’t. I selected that. They then presented me an oh so special offer. I could have the whole program for 29 dollars for 4 months. Which would be reasonable if it included the custom programs, but alas it does not.
I am an app developer. This user flow is what we call “Dark Pattern Design”. Essentially they means they designed the app flow to use your natural psychological instincts against you. Designed to try to milk any cash that can be milked out our you. To be blunt, it’s shady and shameful. It may jump through enough hoops to be technically legal, but it shouldn't be.

I signed up for a free trial of Noom. My receipt clearly states that my trial would last until 01//19. I notified Noom per the app as I was instructed that I did not wish my subscription to go beyond the trial on the morning of 01//19. However, I was charged $139.97. I reached out to customer service twice regarding a refund, but was told that my subscription only went through 01/. However, my receipt clearly states that my trial would last until 01//19. I informed customer service via e-mail, as there are no working phone numbers that I have found to contact the company, that I would be filing a complaint with the Revdex.com and filing with my bank for a fraudulent charge.

Noom does a bait and switch dance. Not only can you get this service for free through UnderArmor (and even their paid service is much cheaper), but you cannot learn about the program without signing up. Once you have signed up for your initial trial $1 for 2 weeks, you are then charged $129. It is not made clear what you will be charged; there is no reminder email; and staff claim there is no refund, even 20 minutes after the charge was made. The amount you will be charged *ison your receipt for the $1 trial, emailed, but most people will not be looking for that there, they will assume that it was just a receipt. That is the ONLY place I found this information when my account was overdrawn this morning. The only charge I'd agreed to was the $1
Cancellation is not easy. You have to have the app, you cannot do it through the website, and you have to actually search the web for instructions on how to cancel, as there is no "cancel" option in your account settings. To cancel, you must message your "coach" (i.e chatbot) that you wish to cancel.
Will rip you off. Don't sign up!
I make a practice to refrain from leaving bad reviews unless I feel others should be warned. The program and some of the people are nice and had a tragic illness not hit me on the same day as the trial period ended I might have stuck with it. However the day I was charged I requested a cancellation or a suspension until my daughter got out of the hospital. They canceled the automatic renewal (which I did not know about) and Noom kept 4 months. I tried and exhausted all avenues but crickets. My message, unless you love the program cancel early, like first week and expect a fight. Sad that their business practices are so bad.
After a 14 day trial, I was charged $129 that they would not refund. They stated :
Part of providing you a 14-day trial is to give you enough time to decide whether our program is the right fit for you, and we believe that our trial duration gives you ample time to make that decision. We also do our best to be transparent about how our subscriptions work and when to expect any charges by immediately sending you a receipt email (titled “Your Noom Receipt”) after you sign up. We provide in that email information on:
The last day of your 14-day trial
The date you officially signed up
The plan you chose during checkout
The last four digits of the credit card used to sign up
How much you will be charged if you decide to stay past the 14-day trial
That your subscription will automatically renew on 2019-01-24
When you get a chance, please check your inbox, spam, and promotions folders to see if our email landed there by a mistake.
Please rest assured that we have turned off auto-renewal on your account, so you will not be charged again. You will have access to Noom’s paid features until the end of this billing cycle, which is on 2019-05-24.
We do apologize for the inconvenience and wish you a wonderful rest of your day.
Very best,
Shady practices. Buyers Beware!!
If I could give no stars I would! What type of company takes your money for a four month subscription when you never even activated the account? Much less no phone number with a live person? A message?
I resigned myself to the fact that I am now stuck with this app for four months might as well try it! But I can’t even get it work properly? I have not been assigned a group of specialists? I am just told sorry this app wasn’t for you your subscription will be canceled in May? How can you take money and not provide the service? Isn’t this against the law? What is going on here?
I only tried this app because it was advertised on the ***????
I would agree with many others who have commented about the auto renew. I actually was a huge Noom fan and lost quite a bit of weight using the app. The truth is, I loved almost everything about this app and really loved all of the helpful psychological insights and their approach to help you balance out your thinking about food. However, after awhile, I stopped using it, which I think is what they hope for - that you'll be able to go out on your own having learned great healthy principles to live by. I stopped using it and had assumed that I had just paid for a 6 month subscription and once it ran out, I'd be done with it.
Like many other commenters here, I was shocked and dismayed when all of a sudden I saw a charge for $149.99 for another 6 months. No notification email ahead of it to double check that I wanted it, no reminder that I was on auto-renew, etc. And it's not like that's an absurd thing to expect - I've experienced other companies that utilize notification emails ahead of an auto-renew date - that's called true customer service.
I'm deeply disappointed and angry that this is the way they do business. It's terrible customer service and terrible PR. Do they really need the money that badly, so they have to swindle people into paying for something they aren't even using.
And while we're on the subject, the cost is really outrageous! I mean, I had great success with the program, so it really changed my life in a positive direction, so I consoled myself with that fact to deal with paying that much money for an app. But being charged again, now, after I've been completely inactive on the app for at least two months?! Totally unacceptable!
By the way, similar to other commenters, once I emailed them about this and asked for a refund, they pretty immediately told me the standard company line about how they are unable to refund the full amount, since the new billing cycle has already begun, but they are graciously willing to give me a 50% refund - that means I still pay $74.50 for 6 months of a service I DO NOT WANT! That's no small amount! And if they can refund half the amount, why can't they refund all of it??!!
Terrible Company!!! They lured me in with a 14-Day Free Trial stating that it would cost $24 per month for the 6 month program. I was shocked when I was charges $149 for a 6 month subscription! I decided to absorb the cost, move around some money, and do the program anyway. The program did not work for me and I stopped using it after 4 months (2 months ago). Fast forward to today, and I was charged $149 again! I immediately looked into trying to cancel, which is incredibly difficult and inconvenient. I was emailed back stating they will only give me half of my refund back. I immediately responded that this is unacceptable and asked for my full refund. They have not responded. This service takes advantage of people, makes account information difficult to locate, makes cancellation of services difficult, and refuses refunds after providing very vague and misleading information about the cost and subscription cycle.
This company is charging me 161+ USD for a six month membership I did not chiose! I downloaded the application and whe they asked to choose a choice of membership I did not choose any! They automatically put me on a trial service to then charge my pay pal account! I never used their services or spoke to anybody! When I realized they charged my account I contacted paypal but noom told them thta I chose 6 month membership! I did not pick any membership, they are fraudulent! I need to be reinbursed!
