Unused Gift Cards No Longer Honored
I share the same sentiments as everyone else on here; have several hundred dollars in gift cards that Pier 1 will no longer honor. The excuses given don't hold a drop of water. Why should we (or those who purchased these for us) have to be punished because the company went bankrupt? I think we all need to look into filing a class action lawsuit, if one hasn't already been started. This is RIDICULOUS.

Pier 1 defrauds customers via gift cards that "will not be honored"
I have a physical gift card that states "This Gift Card has no expiration date, and value may be added at any time." When I try to use it online, I get an error "invalid" number. Apparently, because Pier 1 declared bankruptcy and changed ownership in 2020, the gift card will not be honored. I'm told the new management doesn't have access to the records of the previous management. What a conveniently deceptive way to defraud countless customers.

I have a store credit gift card for $200. Now it is not accepted.

Placed an order in June and haven’t received it. I called the store and they said they don’t have anything on it and only have logs starting from September 1st. I was charged about $1500.00 and no one will return or give me status.

My main complaint is that I have a gift card for pier
One imports that has well over two hundred dollars on it. They are not accepting them or refunding me any of the money.
When I try to use it online it also gets rejected. I was also not
Informed by the employees that my card would become
Useless. I’m very disappointed.

I have a gift card with a balance and the store or online won't let me use it. I would like the money back that someone gave to me through a gift card. I don't think it isright they took the money but didn't allow us to use until they are completely closed.

In attempting to purchase items online today at Pier One, I have now discovered that my Pier One gift card of $150 will no longer be honored because it was issued prior to September 2020. No information was provided to consumers disclosing this decision. From my general understanding of gift cards, I did not think this was legal. I will not be shopping at Pier One again and I am disappointed by this decision, especially given the current pandemic environment.

I have a $50.00 gift card that has not expiration date on it. When I heard Pier 1 was closing, I went to use it to make a purchase. Prior to closing their stores, they decided that gift cards were not accepted. Why do they get to choose the time frame of a gift card and not communicate that. Really frustrating. Location - Minnetonka Mn

It appears as though my complaint is a lot like the other consumers. I have over $300 in store credit and I am unable to use it. Due to having COVID myself, I would not have been able to use the cards during the allotted time of which the company gave during a world wide crisis. A automated response will not suffice regarding chapter 11! It is no fault of the consumers that the store had to go bankrupt. The store is still open for business and should allow the customers to use their credits or refund the amount on the cards. This is totally deception and disloyalty! They took their merchandise and gave store credit that we are unable to ever use. This is a gain for the company not the consumers.

I have a gift card that was not used completely up I have a balance of $31.87 on the card. The store has closed permanently now due to filing bankruptcy . When I went in to use the card in August, I was told, they no longer were accepting gift cards. That seems to be stealing. I tried to use online with no success either. Now what?

I have a gift card from Pier 1 Imports but because of the change of ownership it is no longer being honored. The card says it never expires, and since the business is still operating with the same name and logo they should honor the gift cards purchased before they filled bankruptcy.

I have a Pier 1 Imports Gift card I can no longer use. I see hundreds of complaints on your site regarding the same issue. If there happens to be a suit to collect funds I would like to take part.

I have an unused $75 gift card that I was not permitted to use during their closing sale or online & told them I’m just out the money due the store closing. If the store was still open, why wasn’t I permitted to use the remaining balance on my gift card & how is it ok that they won’t even refund the money that’s remaining. Isn’t that stealing?

We received a Pier 1 Imports gift card. We attempted to use it, but COVID-19 shut everything down. By the time we were able to attempt to use it the store was closed in our city. We tried to use it online but encountered issues after issues. We then tried to check our balance, which should have been $50 and it is now $0. This was a wedding gift and we are so disappointed that we are not able to use this gift.

It's absolutely crazy that we can't use our gift card that was given to us as a wedding gift. They basically stole money from one of our guests. I don't care that the company is under new management, they should either allow people to use their gift cards or reimburse them.

I have $150 worth of gift cards. I cannot longer used then since they sold to a different owner. They told me they send a message regarding the usage of the gift cards; however, I never received the e-mail or any correspondence regarding the issue.

Hello. Pier One owes me $124.00 for a gift card that has not been completely used to $0.00.

Isn’t that stealing.

I ordered a buffet and table July 2nd and I received my merchandise 8/13/2020 and it was put together but placed where I did not see all the furniture to notice damage due to Covid-19 can't be within 6 feet of people, so I was limited in what I can see and I had to sign, the color of the table and buffet do not match, the buffet was damaged but was placed where I could not see the damage, I called and they advised to dispute with my bank, which I did. Then they lied that I refused their calls when I could not talk the one time they called as I was driving, I pulled over to a travel center and called. They could not find my order. I called a few more times they said they did not care dispute it with my bank they were going out of business. Then they lie to my credit card company that I refuse to talk to them and I didn't submit photos of the damage, which I did to my card company they never asked, they repeatedly told me they did not care to dispute it. Why was that a resolution to provide false information to my bank. While I realize no refunds or returns, I should not have to pay for scratches on a table, items in a drawer cause they items were not put together and pieces of my buffet missing. No attempt to resolve with me, just rudeness and lies.

Pier 1 Imports Response • Oct 08, 2020

We have reached out to the customer and explained our process with final sale orders and there is still a dispute showing with her credit card company.

To begin, I will not accept a response from Pier 1 that their hands are tied due to bankruptcy rules. It may seem like a small amount to them, but I have a $25 gift card that was given to me this past December. First, the card should not have been issued by the company knowing that they were going through bankruptcy and would not honor that card. Second, money was given to them, for the card, in good-faith that it would be exchanged for a product in the future. I believe that selling the gift card within weeks of announcing their bankruptcy was false and misleading. They did it to gain money but had no intention of honoring their commitment to exchange. In fact, our local store turned away and refused to accept gift cards, even though the website stated that they would be honored in store for 30 days after the store reopened after the COVID closure. Their website also stated that consumers had only until July 2 to use a Pier 1 gift card online. Well, they honored neither! The cards were being refused in-store during the 30 day period, and the online site would not accept my card when I tried ordering before July 2nd! I would like the new owners of Pier One to honor their old gift cards or to reimburse its customers for the remaining balances. We handed them money in good faith and trusted that they would honor the transaction, they accepted. It was not a donation.

I have over $100 in unused Pier1 gift cards. The cards clearly state: This Gift Card has no expiration date. The Pier1 website is still open and operating under the same name, same logo. If they can continue to operate the business with no change to name, company branding, etc. how is it legal for the new owner to no longer accept past issued gift cards? I have been on the Pier1 customer/email list for many years - I did not receive an email with any notice of "last day to use gift cards is... "
