This was my complaint to Duke:
In February our electrician was visiting our house and was appalled by the state of the power line coming into our junction box on the house He said that it was spliced too close to the house and could have exploded This news was horrifying to me as the box was just outside my year old's bedroom When we first called Duke Energy they were not going to send someone out that day The electrician got on t he phone and convinced them to send someone immediately The men in the truck turned up in what looked like HAZMAT suits and after looking at the line called yet another truck and several more men in HAZMAT like suits arrived They addressed the problem
On July the electricity went out in our house and our house alone My husband called Duke and they sent someone out who looked at the line and explained that it was so old it could not be repaired In fact it was from when the house was built in the 1970s They went ahead and laid a line across our lawn and told us not to mow and they would be out to replace the line in a few weeks This is entirely unacceptable We have small children and this is a huge danger

Over two years ago Duke required a ransom deposit of $for receiving a bad check It was a mistake

Unfair and unwarranted collection of additional deposit amounts with threats of disconnection of power which could lead to health issues
A few weeks ago I went to pay my bill online and entered the incorrect bank account by accident This caused the payment to be rejected by my bank This happened once before maybe a year ago when my wife accidentally did the same Due to this happening twice in a year period (even though it was different people but on the same account) an additional deposit was added to my bill in the amount of SIX HUNDRED FIFTY DOLLARS or my power would be disconnected I tried to call and explain the situation but there was "nothing they could do." budget billing is a scam they claim it will help you with your bill but it puts more money in their pocket and when your bill dollars but their budget plan says its they will say its what you signed up for! which is not true most people sign up for this type of program because they are led to believe it will save them money

Whenever a call is put into Duke to check on the status Duke says they can't contact the lighting department as they can only email that department! Really? So I have called times in weeks and had Duke reps send a high priority email to the lighting department and still nobody will respond
