Sentry Insurance a Mutual Company Reviews (181)

I have had dairyland auto insurance for awhile now. They always have an issue with my policy every six month. One excuse after the next on why I need to pay a re issue fee. I go the extra lengths. I call ask when next payments are due the whole nine yards. They always say they sent my paperwork that I never get. Yet I get my one cureentt bill a couple days before its due no problem.when it comes to policy information and my installment papers they always rudely tell me something must have happened on my end. I ask them to look back at my recorded conversations to prove that I took all the neccesary steps to avoid re issue fee but they conveniantly dont have them.
Its disturbing the reviews I read online about the company. I personally think something fishy is going on with the company. If not...
At the very least they deserve horrible ratings for ther terrible customer service, extreme disorgination, disturbing online reviews, and lack of buisness morals.
Very very unpleasant.

Review: on March 28 around 9 am my boyfriend called to settle a late payment on his car insurance policy because they have not sent any mail or contacted him when the payment was late.

He called the toll free number to talk to an agent to settle any unpaid bills and ask why he was not getting any notification, the agent was short and rude and told him it has been cancelled because its late. My boyfriend asked why he didn't get any late notice and he wanted to pay in full but the agent just cut him off saying NO, you have to sign a new policy. He asked again and the agent HUNG UP THE PHONE.

I hope they were recording this conversation because they should NOT BE IN BUSINESS with HONEST people.Desired Settlement: I hope they get this review as a warning to other consumers that they have agents that are not good with customer service. Poor grade on this business.

Review: I have been a loyal client of Sentry Insurance for over 20 years and never filed a claim. I was enrolled in their payback policy whereas for the first five years of the program, there is no paybacks. Then after 5 years if no claims were filed, I would get a rebate of half of my first years insurance premeums. That would go on year after year until I filed a claim. Since I never did, I would get that payback every year. Well in April they informed me they are no longer doing car insurance, so I would have to get my insurance elsewhere. So I did, and had to cancel my policy with Sentry about 2 weeks before the expiration date. When I asked them about my 5 years of paybacks, their answer was basically " sorry dude, you're screwed" This is just totally unfair. I would still be a client today if they hadn't decided they weren't doing car insurance anymore, I really feel I should be entitled to at least four years of paybacks because they are the ones that cancelled my policy.Desired Settlement: At least four years of payback which would amount to around $3000.

Thank you for your correspondence of July 21, 2014, regarding [redacted]. We regret that Mr. [redacted] felt it necessary to contact the Revdex.com. Under these circumstances,

Review: I Am not sure what option to select in the above question Primary Nature Of Your Review:

I had an insurance policy for our motorcycle through Viking Insurance Company Of Wisconsin (AKA: Sentry Insurance, DairyLand Insurance) We had the motorcycle appraised less then a year before starting the policy for $28,800.00 so we insured the motorcycle for that amount making sure it was fully covered due to all the upgrades that we had done to it. Upon doing so my producer (Ball Insurance ) sent the appraisal over to the insurance company to be accepted, and they accepted it. I paid a monthly amount of $345 for 6 months for the whole years premium for the coverage of $28,8000 unfortunately the motorcycle was stollen back on March 21,2014 and I have now been dealing with the insurance company for three months now trying to settle, they are now stating that they are not accepting my appraisal and are offering amounts not even close to what the bike was appraised for, I do understand things depreciate and all the work we had done was a year and a half ago I feel in that year in a half it did not depreciate to half, also I have all receipts for the work done to the motorcycle. I feel like I have been a victim of fraud by paying a high insurance premium for a motorcycle that they accepted the appraisal for, only to find out that now there not accepting it, why was it accepted in the first place, So they could make me pay a high premium to get more money, I am very upset with they way this company conducts business and how this process and claim had been handled.Desired Settlement: I want an amount close to what we had the motorcycle insured for, because thats what we paid for.

Review: I have Dairyland Cycle Insurance. I made a claim 9/3/2013. The company delayed and delayed processing the claim until they issued a check 11/6/2013. I had to get my ex-husband to endorse the check with me, so my attorney returned the signed check to me on 1/31/14. I deposited it the same day. On 2/04/14 the check came back STOP PAYMENT. I was never informed there was any problem. The check had no expiration date on it. Why won't they now pay the claim they agreed to pay?Desired Settlement: I want the money put in my account along with the $5 fee the bank charged me for the check being returned.

Review: Sentry Insurance will not respond to my repeated request for a response to an insurance claim #[redacted]. Their insured hit my vehicle and has confirmed that he was at fault. I have a police report that also says their insured was at fault. I have given all my receipts and any information they needed. Now, their agent, Mr. Jimmy Ramos, will not respond to any of my emails or phone messages requesting when I will get paid for my damage. This has been going on since August 1, 2014.Desired Settlement: I would like a phone call from a responsible party with Sentry to give me an exact date on when I can expect reimbursement for my damages.

Review: I called to cancel my policy as I had purchased new insurance, and was told that I must make a written demand for such, which I complied with. I called to confirm my cancelation and pay for any due amounts and was told that my policy had been canceled, and that no further action was required. I was contacted, and received a voice mail, nearly 6 months later by their collections department stating that I owed a past due balance to them. I called back to clarify the situation three different times, left messages, and finally received a call back nearly a month later. Come to find out, during that time they had reported my account to the three credit bureaus as being past due and in collections, and had given my information to a collections company who began contacting me as well. I immediately paid the amount they considered past due and again verified that my account was closed, and that no further action was required from me and that no further action would be taken against me. I continue to receive calls from the collections agency stating that I owe a past due balance, and it continues to gain time on my credit report for being even later past due. I have once again tried to resolve with the insurance company, but cannot get any type of timely response from them and my credit is continually taking hits the longer they delay.Desired Settlement: The immediate removal of my account from collections and the negative impact it has had on my credit in the form of a derogatory mark. I have made every good faith attempt to close, and pay for their services, without any type of animosity towards their representatives even in light of the fact that they are unfairly and directly impacting my future ability to obtain credit.

Review: Claim for repair to vehicle that was hit by Sentry-insured driver. Sentry refuses to pay full amount of repair; and has been postponing decision for over six weeks, claiming that another insurance carrier is also responsible; even though it was clear that the Sentry-insured car rammed my vehicle. Claim was for $2140.00 They offered to pay only 75%Desired Settlement: Sentry should pay full amount of repair to my vehicle and if another insurance carrier is involved, Sentry should get their share from the other carrier rather than force me to deal with a second insurance carrier.

Review: I was in an accident in December 2014. It was the other parties fault as they hit my car door as I was putting my buckling up my sons car seat. The other party has dairyland auto/sentry for insurance when I went through them to fox my car they claimed they could not get a hold of her to put her at fault(even though I was there when she called and reported it). They also claim she did not have enough coverage to fix my car even though my car was going to cost around 3000 and legally in California she needs 5000 as her lowest limit for property damages. Now the agent [redacted] has not been returning any phone calls in 2 weeks. Clearly this is a sleazy tactic to wait it out until I decide to go through my own insurance company.Desired Settlement: I would obviously like to have my car repaired or to have the 500 dollar deductible to go through my own insurance so that I do not need to get a lawyer.

Review: My car is rear ended and totaled by another car under Dairyland auto insurance,

I have the police report indicating that my car is stopped at the road due to rain and traffic,

Then the other car just hit my car.

This is completely the other driver's fault,

But Dairyland just doesn't accept the liability.

There are several parts of problems,

1. Vehicle is total loss

My car has a really rare exterior color and it is very hard to find another one.

It shouldn’t just be compensated by current market price.

2. My passenger was sent to ER and EMS is billing me for the EMS service.

3. It is obviously their fault, they should provide us a rental car,

Or at least fully explained how to rent a car and how to ask for reimbursement from them.

4. Since my car is rear ended, my stuff in the trunk is broken and they should be paying to repair/buy a new one.

5. The adjuster just doesn’t pick up the phone or response to voicemail.Desired Settlement: 1. A same vehicle or enough compensation that I can bought the vehicle again.

2. They should pay for the ER and EMS service fee.

3. They should provide us a rental car or at least fully explained how to rent a car and how to ask for reimbursement from them.

4. Pay for my property

5. Pick up the phone and have a proper attitude to a claimer.

Review: I purchased auto insurance off the internet and was told this was the best rate I could get, so I paid 166.91 on July 31, 2015. Well to my surprise it was 3 times more then what I should have paid, so I called this company up and canceled on the 5th of August at around 230 pm and I would get a refund in 72 hours. well on the 10 of August I heard nothing from them. I called and talked with supervisor then and they couldn't find anything about my canceling the policy (#[redacted]) and wanted the information witch I archived (thank god) and sent them the conformation email and then did I get a response! Well now I see the refund of only 64.73 out of the 166.91 for only 4 days of coverage! The way I was explained is on a day to day price divide 31 into 166.91 then subtract 5 days of coverage from that, which is about 5.38 a day for 5 days is 26.92 from the 166.91=139.99 not no 64.73 refund which they have said they issued and I haven't got yet, what is due me is 139.99 not 64.73. I have been lied to from this company, and in my eyes they are stealing form me and I will not let this happen I am on a fixed income and next year I will be a senior citizen considered by law and I am disabled by law. Please help me recover what they owe me!Desired Settlement: A complete refund and something about false advertising

Response:

AS of this morning I did receive a total of 135 and some change from this company and I will settle with this amount. However this company has problems with costumer relations and their response slow and if I didn’t complain they would have gotten away with their actions who knows how people this happens too. AS of this date I am ok with my refund and I want to thank the Revdex.com for their help in “watching out for us” the consumer. Again thank you and I will be here if u need any more information.

Review: I dealt with Sentry Insurance for an accident caused by one of their insured to one of my vehicles. While leaving a dock, the semi trailer of the insured took off the mirror of my my vehicles' cab as well as ripping the fiberglass. After speaking with the claims rep, [redacted], I felt as though she had no idea what a semi truck even was. She said the driver didn't THINK he hit me as he was leaving. I explained to her that there was no way that the insured could have left the dock truck area without hitting my vehicle because the driveway is a sharp right and the way the tractor trailer works, it's not possible. Besides the fact that their insured was there before we arrived, and gone after the damage was done with no one arrving between. She didn't even know that a straight truck needs mirrors to back up and there is no way my truck could have backed up next to their vehicle without using the mirror that was hanging damaged. She said the picture of the trailer doesn't show any damage. claim denied. I asked what was done to decide this and she said her insured photo's, that's it. And, her insured thinks he didn't hit me.Desired Settlement: I would like them to do their job and insure for accidents. Their insured hit me and there has been no investigation, just a denial

Review: I set up autopay. They said no problem. Did not take money, then cancelled insurance without notification. Got into an accident, they denied any responsibility. When autopay was set up, I also signed up for late payment notifications. Did not receive those either.Desired Settlement: I'm facing a $14,000 bill because they lied and did not inform me that they canceled my policy. I want them to share the burden they placed on me. Being lied to and abandoned is ruining my life. I'm about to lose everything because they couldn't send a simple notification to call me and say "Hey, you're payment is late". No, Instead, I get "Yeah, no problem". Followed by "Not our problem".

Review: On 3/31/2015 I was involved in a auto collision where my 90% restored 1974 Chevrolet Nova was fairly damaged considering the immaculate condition it was in. Authorities were dispatched to the scene where the other driver was cited and deemed responsible for the crash as it was my right of way, the police report will be furnished upon request.

To this day (4/21/2015) three weeks later, I have been without a vehicle as my classic has been my only mode of transportation since my Honorable discharge from the United States Air Force. I am still without a vehicle as Dairyland Insurance refuses to grant me a rental, despite the evidence that I clearly was not at fault of the accident and they have even agreed to repair my vehicle.

I continue to ask for rides from friends just to take my son to school and get myself to work, as it also took the local adjuster 2 weeks to even inform me of his appraisal. Taking a vacation weekend and having "car problems" seemed to be more prevalent to him as opposed to being a man of his word and addressing the situation timely.

It is a complete embarrassment to serve and fight for this beautiful country just to have Dairland Insurance handle this matter without a single ounce of integrity, ethics or even empathy for the anguish, turmoil and stress they have caused me and my family as we are trying to get our feet on the ground since our transition to civilian life. Is that not what a insurance company supposed to do, care for the people? They have presented themselves as a pitiful example of a reputable insurance agency.Desired Settlement: I simply want Dairland Insurance to fulfill their role of insuring their drivers irresponsibilities by restoring my vehicle to the condition it was in prior to the accident at their expense. I also expect them to not only provide me with a rental by the end of this week but to cover the expenses of the rental until the repairs are complete.

Review: Insurance was purchased on a vehicle for personal travel, registered and insured in NC as of October 2012.

Car accident occurring due to a malicious or drunk driver, changed need of involvement with Dairyland, Peak property, and Sentry Insurance Companies. The hit and run was investigated fully, driver who was charged with fault had been reported within 1 1/2 hours of accident to the extent Highway Patrol was able to report.

Originally this insurance company sent me a card for a vehicle different than the one vehicle title owned in my name.

As clarified in the terms of coverage, limitations such as rental vehicle maximum days and communication with court processes, the printed terms of insurance limitations were not followed.

As clarified with police report, fault of this accident was not used to settle financial damages.

As clarified with investigated fraud for the rental company and NC department of Insurance, documents were not available with verbal or written requests despite known fraudulent replacement vehicles.

Attempts to handle subrogation and arbitration were clearly outside scope of customer involvement, yet title and tax fraud was found and later ignored by the multiple company contacts.

Medical issues paid out of pocket or with employer network had not been part of investigation due to ignored attempts of court and processed complaint documentation.

Notable medical condition has been reason for waiting periods, and did limit future court processes allowing resolution with the drivers insurance company. I have not been able to see reasonable communication, or timely response after January 2013, yet have been working within 120-180 deadlines for management and legal due process.Desired Settlement: Mailed documents relating to court arbitration hearings, or neutral mediation.

Mailed documents relating to misuse of personal information between 10/2012 and 04/2014.

Mailed documents relating to legal changes or policy coverage changes between 10/2012 and 04/2014.

Mailed documents specific to claim reporting with Allstate or court involvement specific to insurance complication for at fault driver covered with Allstate.

Review: I bought a car insurance policy from this company Dairyland Auto and they offered me a quote of $218 monthly but which I had to pay $356 for the first payment then when I got the bill on February the bill had a different price of $276.97 price I was upset and I called customer service I was told that they had changed the price without consulting with me because they had gotten a different driver background report after they had offered me the insurance price I then was told that if I wanted to cancel the policy I had to send them a fax which I did on the 24th of February to cancel the policy but they took 2 months to cancel and the insurance still kept on taking the payments through my bank which had been put as automatic withdrawn from my bank the day I was insured the 22nd of January . I went to my bank and I was told they had to stop the payments or they could but they would charge me money which I then called the insurance again asking them for the 2 months they had already withdrawn from my bank then I was told that they could only refund me for one month and they did tell me that my insurance was cancelled on the 22nd of February and that they did receive the fax so they cancel the insurance policy I have not received my money back. the money they automatic withdrawn were 2 payments of $276.97 which equals to be $553.94. I have called a few times which I been put on hold or hanged up until last week that I requested to talk to the manager on march 27, her name Melina was her name she told me that the policy had been cancel since February 22 and they could only refund me the month of march 22 which was automatically deducted from my bank account but could not refund me for the month of February I am extremely upset because I been a victim of this insurance I been treated bad ignored and given poor customer service I want this company to refund me my money .Desired Settlement: I want Dairyland auto to refund me the money they withdrawl from my bank which is $276.97 on february 22, 2015 and march 22,2015 equals to be $553.94 total

Review: Involved in motor vehicle accident with new car. State of Washington allows for collection of diminished value. Had independent appraisal of almost $10,000. Sentry insurance recognized and opened diminished value claim but offered $200. They would not provide an explanation of how they came to this figure while my appraisal was over 20 pages and detailed with car dealer input as well. After writing multiple letters, I have received generic statements. They were not helpful and would delay responses.

I have read that other insurance agencies respond well in these situations with immediate reimbursement when appraisal submitted.Desired Settlement: Explanation of formula used to calculate diminished value.
